Apparently, Pho Hoa has many branches in the US as well as several here in the Philippines. This happens to be a Pho Hoa/My Thai establishment so you can select from either menus. I ordered a combination pho for my dad that included brisket, flank, tendon, beef and meatballs. My daughter had her favorite BBQ pork bahn mi but only had the opportunity to eat half as it took about 20 minutes to prepare. LI kept it light with an order of pork and shrimp spring rolls, nothing too exciting there. My niece had a vegetarian pad Thai although she said it lacked a bit of seasoning and ended up using the fish sauce from the spring roll as an added flavoring agent. My sister had the fried pork rice paper rolls. For desert, we shared the coconut and Pandan pudding. As a California native where there are so many Vietnamese and Thai restaurants to choose from especially in the SoCal/OC area, it's a little hard for me to not be critical of what I know Vietnamese and Thai flavors should taste like. The seasoning can definitely be enhanced a bit more to have a bolder presence on your palette. I do commend the staff for their attentiveness which is a plus in my book.

Third, Korean (I've been noticing they have been popping all over the metro!). But Vietnamese -- they're not so prevalent in the country. Even Banoi's a little hard to find. This place is located near the office, just a 10 step walk from dela rosa street to Perea . If I ever need a quick fix of pho noodles, I go here. Me and my officemates are very fond of the restaurant -- In fact, It has become one of our favourite spots to have a office lunch out. If you are ever here, don't ever ever forget to order their Cha Gio. It's like our very own lumpia.. but XL in size. The dipping sauce that comes with it won me over. And their curry chicken? Two thumbs up. As for Pho, I always order their Pho ba, their beef noodle soup with herbs and spices. I can't get enough of their sweet savoury broth and tender slices of beef. Yum! Coffee's strong too. I tried it during lunch time and I was awake and alert till late at night. Vietnamese coffee is one the best things about Banoi. :)

The serving size is good for sharing between three people - even their soups are good for sharing. You can have it split up before serving. I very much recommend the Goi Cuon, a fresh spring roll with shrimp, vermicelli and pork wrapped in rice paper and served with Ba Noi's delicious peanut sauce. Another dish that I really love is the Bo Luc Lac, a stir-fried spiced beef dish served with a side of fried basil; the Vietnamese fried rice; and the Vietnamese iced coffee. I particularly like the Bo Luc Lac and order it every time because the beef is really soft and tender and the taste goes well with the side of fried basil. As well, the Goi Cuon remains a mainstay in my order because I really like how healthy the dish is. That being said, I think every visit at Ba Noi's promises a nutritious and healthy meal that is filling and best enjoyed with family or friends.

In it's place was an Easter egg hunt for the kids.... fine. Instead, we decided to eat at the closest restaurant we could find, which was literally Nha Em. In the US most restaurants would be packed on Easter weekend, but not here. We got in, no problem and were seated immediately. Our first impressions were: - Cute, nicely simple but nicely designed interior - All window walls, so even with the AC on, it was a bit toasty (it's summer here, and this restaurant is on the roof of the mall) We ordered the Pho Bo solo for 290 pesos each. Pretty small portion (US standards, normal for the Philippines). The beef quality wasn't the best, with half the protein coming in the form of a meatball. Broth was, eh, and the noodles were over done. Overall, ok, not yuck, but not worthy for a second try.

The meat in fried spring rolls tasted bad and cooked in old oil and much of the lettuce was limp and brown on the edges. Old Quarter is only the second Vietnamese restaurant in Marikina, as far as I know, and I'm really glad they decided to set up shop along Lilac Street! They are a small establishment sure, but their dishes are big in flavor! My boyfriend and I went on a rainy, chilly night, so we had an extra reason to order pho, and we chose beef. Ahhhh where do I begin? It's fragrance alone made my mouth water! The broth is light and doesn't have any "umay" flavor unlike other noodle dishes. And when I added the chili? Ah, divine! :) We also tried their pork BBQ banh mi, which is longer and bigger compared to another Marikina Vietnamese restaurant's. The pork was okay tasting, but I find it a bit tough to chew, so maybe the pork could be sliced first before being sandwiched. In addition, the baguette's even tougher than the meat; in the other Marikina Viet resto, the baguette they use is soft and nice to chew, so it's really difficult not to compare. You can ask for the actual banh mi to be sliced for easier consumption, though. For our sides, we tried their fresh spring rolls and spicy wings. We liked them both, though we think the spring rolls aren't as fresh as they ought to be as they were kind of dry BUT the dipping sauce made it much better. The wings, on the other hand, weren't that spicy, but were still flavorful. For drinks, I recommend you try their canned tamarind Vietnamese drink! Sarap! :) They have Vietnamese coffee, as well, but I am not patient for it to drip, so yeah, I'd pick their ready-to-drink beverages anytime.

With that said, I like the appetizing clean herby flavor of the base broth and regardless if you are having white or red meat with it, the freshness always stands out. I am no chef but it seems to me that this is a case where you can't have too much herb in your soup. The space is a bit cramped and service is soso - considering that there are only a handful of tables to wait on. Nonetheless, this is still one of places I'd go to whenever I want a steamy bowl of soup.

I had a lemonade (the best in a while) the fried calamari and stuffed chicken wings. My two year old had the fried rice egg roll. The place has air conditioning which makes it a plus as you try to get out of the heat. Seating is super tight which makes it a bit hard to navigate when the diner gets busy. Place was 4 stars at best, but it bad to knock a star off due to the slow service and items that were on the menu but not available. Give this place a try, hopefully you'll get better service than we did
