Last Sunday I was here to meet up with some classmates, which would have made this a mini-51st Reunion. As the picture shows, I think we've all aged fairly well, but noting with sadness the classmates who have passed on. The menu here had good choices, the restaurant/bar space was clean and comfortable, and we pretty much had the place to ourselves. The food was good enough, but somewhat besides the point considering all these home town friends coming together. My only complaint is that the very nice and accommodating waitress didn't know how to make change for this cash-only business.

Every Iowan beerfest I attend, I am always in search of the West O Beer tent. We popped in on our final night of vacation for a pint and some pretzel bites as the kiddos played out on their patio. Pricing was on par. Parking was a bit cramped, you can tell when the parking lot is full that the inside will be, too. You need to order at the bar. (They are closed on Monday, FYI.) The pretzel bites were good, mustard definitely had some kick. My West O Cocoa was the perfect end to vacation. I'll pop in this brewery again when we are in town!

The host originally seated us in a space that did not fit our party. Then he moved us to a center spot in a long, family-style table with people on either side of us. We had a five year old with us who was overly tired and very spunky and we had to try to keep her focused on us and not our neighboring patrons. Was really not the most appropriate seating for children but we didn't want to ask for yet another table. Soon after we sat down, we discovered that the parties on both sides of us were upset and looking for any employee so they could express their frustration. Seeing as we were all so close, we could hear them complain to others in their parties about the service. We learned shortly that we should have written up our losses early and moved on. We didn't. We ordered our beverages and immediately got water. The rest (2 soft drinks, an iced tea, and a milk) slowly trickled out one by one. The waiter apologized every single time he came to the table about how slow everything was from us being seated to getting our drinks to him coming to take our order.
