I had invasive surgery three days prior so we wanted to be as close to the venue as possible so I could return if necessary, & 3. we wanted to watch the budget. Cory achieved these goals PERFECTLY! In the hotel, both the bedroom and bathroom were spacious. I could manoeuvre & my husband could take care of me easily (or have room for more romantic activities at a later time!) So success #1. Cory did a great job with the location of our hotel. We were able to access the venue with only back roads - no highways. We were more than comfortable driving back in the dark. From discussions with family members, we found that not only were we as close to the venue as others, we didn't get lost coming in! (Granted the venue WAS in the countryside!) Success #2! The hotel also offered a Continental Breakfast. Their "Continental Breakfast" was: Hot - waffles, scrambled eggs, and sausage; Cold - Organic Greek yogurt, bagels, toast, & 4 kinds of cereal incl 1 organic(!); Condiments - sugar-free, honey, mustard & ketchup, and organic!! It was very filling. While talking to family members at the wedding, we found that we had the best Continental Breakfast. And some had a VERY meager Breakfast indeed! This helped our budget tremendously! Success #3 (with below). I had asked Cory to look into planning this trip for us after a quick look at AARP & AAA. His pricing was MUCH cheaper than either of those rates. I will keep those for other reasons but all my travel plans will, from now on, be through Stevenson Travel Adventures where I know Cory will listen to our needs & wants and meet challenges head on! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!

In the early 1800's a cotton gin was located at the top of the dam ( picture included) . It utilized Eli Whitney's cotton gin model. Cotton was king of all crops around here for a hundred years or so. With the outbreak of the Civil War, crops of large scale were abandoned. Below the dam with water wheel still in place was constructed an iron ore smelting furnace. It produced metal for confederate arms. After the war it was replaced by a cornmeal gin that used two large limestone stones to grind the corn into corn meal. I actually saw this in operation once as a small boy. After years of abandonment, only skeletal remains are left. Interesting and sad! Great local history!
