    Table Mountain Ranch

They both look healthy and fit. Water buckets are always full, and get cleaned daily. They haven't seen this type of care since, well...ever. Riding out back up North Table Mountain is very enjoyable. There isn't even a road to cross before you're right on the trail. We're having fun exploring, and we love TMR! Nice indoor arena, three outdoor arenas (one dressage), round pens, small cross-country course, and trails. What else could you ask for?

Between Fairmount, where I get training in Western and Table Mountain, where I get worked in English, there's a nice balance of training styles and horses. Rachel's got a background in both, and a nice selection of horses to work you on. In addition you can come in your off time if she has a horse available and ride on your own to practice, which is a nice feature. I appreciate Rachel's steady clear style, where she picks an area to concentrate on and that gets the full attention. She knows to trust me to continue to work on my own. I also value that I can bring my own tack if I want to go bareback saddlepad. The folks at this stable knows that I will stay longer to help clean up the arena when others don't clean up their horses' droppings, and I also take the time to make sure all tack is put where it belongs. That also means that the tacking area is cleaned of horse "emanations" which they all seem to save for when we're taking everything off for the class. Bless 'em. While I don't own or lease, any time I ride, that's my horse- and everything about it is my responsibility, from ensuring its safety to making sure I clean up behind it. There are great tack rooms, the indoor facility makes for superb events and you can ride all year. Sure you have to share Table Mountain with bikers, hikers and walkers, but this is Colorado. I recommend Rachel as a trainer, and there other specialized trainers out here as well.

GR Bar Ranch - Secluded cabins at GR Bar Ranch in Paonia, CO

    GR Bar Ranch

The G R Bar Ranch has been one of the most fun vacations we have spent in Colorado. Located near…read morebeautiful Paonia, the ranch offers 4 cabins for a week long stay; cabins are a mile to a mile and a half from each other so you feel like all the ranch belongs to you. Each cabin comes with 2 horses and their tack. (You can get more for an additional price.) When the husband and I checked into the ranch and Arrowhead cabin, their ranch hand brought us a matching set of ponies and started to show us basic horse care. Once he realized I was an experienced horse person, he said for us to come get him if we needed any help. Other than the ranch hand coming back the next day to ask if I would trade my pony because they needed an easy horse for another family for Smitty, the ranch's pack horse who had not been ridden all summer but knew Smitty and I would be fine together, we had the ranch to ourselves. There are tons of trails to ride on, lakes to fish in, boats to paddle in, and 4 wheel roads to drive on (all inclusive). We did not see any of the other families the whole week. Now, if you are not such an isolationist as we are, you can go down to the main lodge for a visit with other families or the owners. The cabins are run by propane and slightly rustic. You have all the comforts of home except a TV and telephone which is what we wanted for our vacation escape. We did go into town to get fresh peaches and other food but basically spent an incredible week catching up with each other and pretending Arrowhead was our private cabin. From reading the guest book, families come year after year even leaving some personal items such as games and sports equipment doing the same thing we did, pretending this was their private get away. The only reason G R Bar gets 4 stars instead of 5 is because they advertise the great fishing in their lakes. Since we were there at the end of the season, most fish had been fished out and eaten. This made the husband a bit cranky as he is a catch and release man. Other than that, I cannot even begin to tell you how fabulous the G R Bar Ranch is for a family vacation. And once you go, you become their family and receive a Christmas card every year.

It is literally off the beaten path (you should have 4 wheel drive) and not one of those places where there are ten cabins next to each other and you wave to one another from your individual fire pits in the evening. No, this is the real deal! You are alone, you have no neighbors, and there is endless abundant nature to explore. I loved my early morning cup of coffee on the front porch. The air smells so good and just listening to the little sounds around me, the rustle of the leaves, the small animals and birds, was so soothing. It is rustic (everything runs on propane), but you will have everything you need in one of the most beautiful places there are. I was actually worried about my teenage son on a recent visit (there is no "free wifi" and cell reception is spotty or nonexistent), but he loved it! This is a wonderful place for families to connect the old fashioned way - play a board game, hike, fish, go horseback riding, or just relax. I have heard they also have great hunting for those so inclined. My family and I will definitely be back for another visit, and I can wholeheartedly recommend this beautiful place to anyone looking for a very special vacation spot. Five stars!!

The atmosphere is fantastic--sophisticated yet incredibly welcoming--but the food and service are what truly set this place apart. Our server, Shannon, was absolute perfection. She was over the top with her kindness and went out of her way to make sure every accommodation was met. Service like hers is rare and made the night feel truly special. The Food: * The Steaks: We had the Filet Mignon (served over savory mushrooms) and the Bone-In Ribeye. Both were cooked to a flawless sear, incredibly tender, and topped with a rich compound butter that took them to the next level. * The Sides: You have to try the Jalapeño Creamed Corn. It's velvety, sweet, and has the perfect hint of heat. We also loved the fresh shrimp and balsamic-glazed avocado salad. * Dessert: We finished with the Strawberry Cheesecake on a chocolate crust. It was the perfect, decadent end to a beyond-delicious meal. Between the world-class steaks and the legendary hospitality from Shannon, Manning's is a 10/10. Do yourself a favor and check it out!

Asked for medium rare- it was burnt/black on the outside and completely tasteless on the inside. It was super oily as well and lots of fat on it. The side of cheesy potatoes was drenched in oil- my partner didn't even finish it. Steak Bachemel sandwich was tasty but very messy. The fries were over fried so unenjoyable. Service was extremely slow even though they weren't busy. We waited around after we finished eating- for 15 minutes until I gave up and went and asked someone to ask our server for the check. I remember eating here once before many years ago but I forgot to review. I did remember it was about the same quality of food and service. Now I am documenting it and reminding my future self (and others?) to not come back!

A Truly Memorable Alpaca Experience…read more We visited Smooth Alpaca Experience as a group of six, ranging in age from 12 to mid-60s, and every one of us absolutely loved it. Joe was wonderful -- fun, informative, kind, humorous, and incredibly knowledgeable. He made the entire experience engaging for both kids and adults alike. We especially enjoyed getting to know all of the alpacas, along with the hilarious three brother goats who definitely put on a performance for us! We learned so much about alpaca behavior, personalities, eating habits, the shearing process, and the care involved in raising them. It was also fascinating to see the finished alpaca products, including socks, hats, gloves, sweaters, and blankets, and to better understand the process from animal to finished product. Overall, this was a unique, educational, and genuinely enjoyable experience that we would highly recommend. Joe made the day extra special!

With lots of folks thinking the same thing, we slipped in and grabbed a buzzer to keep us company for the 15 minute wait. Just a short 10 minutes later, we sat down at a four top and soon had four massive mason jars of water sliding across the table to us. I had been eying their Cucumber and Fire cocktail while waiting and it didn't disappoint. The refreshing cucumber balanced the jalapeño really well. Yum. The parents split a fabulous looking French Dip and rated it well (4 outta 5 stars). Their massive fans and we're looking for a bit more flavor in the horseradish dip for a perfect score. Not bad. Me? I ordered the Melted Monk sandwich with tomato bisque. I nixed the kettle chips. Absolute fan of the bisque. I could have had a gallon of it - really flavorful with great mouth feel. So good. I wasn't a fan of the Melted Monk sandwich, but also wasn't sure how the green apple slices would pair with the caramelized onions and raclette cheese, on cranberry walnut bread. Sounded interesting. Not bad, but wouldn't order it again. That aside, I'm still a fan. Teller's has always been a great choice and I'll return to some of my favorites next time. Never hurts to try something new! My guy raved about his Ahi Burger, and man, it was so much food. His tots were so good! I'm likely ordering this next time. Also - I almost forgot! The oysters were amazing - under fresh, if you can believe it. Teller's gets 6 deliveries a week of seafood. It totally shows. Yum.
