My uncle began seeing Alma Felinor Talavera in January 2025 for unexplained symptoms, including rapid, unintentional weight loss. Over the course of 2-3 months, he lost more than 50 pounds, developed abnormal bloodwork (elevated liver enzymes), and even sudden-onset diabetes--all serious red flags that should have prompted urgent investigation. Despite these clear warning signs, no thorough diagnostic workup was done. His condition was attributed to acid reflux, and the only test ordered was a stool sample for H. pylori. When treatment for H. pylori failed and his condition continued to decline, there was still no escalation of care--no imaging, no referral, no urgency. By the time my uncle finally presented to the emergency department in August 2025, he was diagnosed with stage IV pancreatic cancer with metastasis to the liver and lungs. He passed away on September 19, 2025, just weeks later. Pancreatic cancer is aggressive, but in my opinion, signs of serious illness were dismissed and opportunities for earlier diagnosis were missed. We do not feel that she took his symptoms seriously or provided appropriate evaluation.

I ended up going to and urgent care because by the time I realized about their mistake all the clinics were close. The very next day I went to the UMC clinic at Shadow Lane and they would not give me the PEP because I didn't have insurance. Then I remembered AHF and went there. They tested me, gave me access to their doctor, and the doctor prescribed me the PEP right away. Save your time and come to this place right from the beginning, I highly recommend it. The office repeatedly dropped the ball during the application process failing to communicate, providing incorrect information, or not submitting the correct paperwork. This caused unnecessary delays and stress. It wasn't until I reached Erica, the office manager, that I finally got help completing the application. However, my frustrations didn't end there. I later found out they were gatekeeping my injection until after labs were completed yet my appointment was at 5 PM and the lab closes at 4:30 PM. When I called on my way to explain the timing conflict, Erica's response was a dismissive, "I know how it goes." That kind of attitude toward a patient's urgent medical care is beyond unprofessional it's disrespectful. This has been a nightmare. The lack of communication, compassion, and basic organization here is shocking. My health is not a game, yet it feels like the only thing this office truly cares about is collecting payment and putting up barriers to treatment. Patients deserve better than this.
