And now, in the middle of a heat wave, our air conditioner died, and they are bending over backwards to make sure we get a new one ASAP, even if it means them installing the thing in the middle of the summer. Our rep, Scott Fischer, even said he'd loan us a portable air conditioner so we don't melt before they can get the new air conditioner installed. $150 waste of money for diagnostic. When we called this morning to make an appointment we…read morespecifically asked if they work on the oil heaters in levittown knowing that its a niche thing. The woman on the phone assured us that they do. The first thing the hvac gentlemen said is "we don't really work on these oil heaters". When i said to him that we specifically asked the woman about it he told us "she's just dispatch". We were told that the soot needed to be cleaned(over $2700), they may need to remove the wall to do it which would cost more, and they don't replace the wall if they take it down. Then after all of that, they would be able to diagnose what is actually wrong with the heater, if its something more than a cleaning. If you live in Levittown, don't walk...run! You might as well throw your $150 in a hole and call someone else. Benjamin Franklin came out and hour later and fixed it for $417.

They came out promptly, which was good, but their man didn't even care to look at my old faucet, and replaced it with a "multi-turn faucet", probably because it was the one he had in the truck. It's a real aggravation to turn on the water now, and the thought of Ellis leaves a sour taste in my mouth each time I have to turn the knob eight times instead of just a quarter-turn to get a decent flow of water.

They are a rarity among tradespeople these days, both in their reliability and in the quality of their work. Their charges are not unreasonable, and are never a surprise. They bill time by the hour, and always work quickly. This year, we hired Ellis to replace the drain in our 80 - 90 year old basement utility sink, which they did to a high standard. For the first time, we now actually have a clean-out in the line, which is very important. Also, we had them replace our 20 year old hot water heater, which, while still working, was doing so on "borrowed time." The new unit was quickly installed even though I had them switch the gas exhaust from an old, oversized chimney to a direct through-the-wall exhaust. They acquired the permit from the Township, and the inspector told me that the job was perfect in terms of code compliance. We are fortunate to have had Albert Ellis here in Moorestown for more than a century, and even more fortunate that the current generation continues to pride itself on its competence, integrity, and professionalism.

We originally met Scott from SG when we were looking to install a whole-house generator after Hurricane Irene in 2011. They did such an amazing job installing and maintaining our Kohler generator that we went on an Annual Contract, and SG became our regular HVAC and etc. contractor shortly after, and have been ever since. I write "HVAC and etc." because beyond maintain the generator and HVAC, they've done plumbing and electrical work for us as well, and every single job they've done has been perfect: Exactly as promised, on time, cleaned up after, and reasonably and competitively priced. They're quite amazing--in the run up to Hurricane Sandy in 2012, without being asked Scott came out to check the generator before the storm hit, and then with the electric service our for days, he did the same. SGHAC are a remarkably friendly crew, who has always delivered service beyond expectation. Highest recommendation...

Full disclosure, I wanted to give 4.5 instead of 5, because they are expensive, BUT, so is everyone…read moreelse, AND they did right by me in my instance, so I went with 5 instead of 4. I was having an issue with my zoned HVAC. My dampers NEVER closed, and no matter what the temperature was in one zone, if the other called for AC/heat, the other zone got it as well. This led to my upstairs being like 6/7 degrees different than the downstairs, and a horribly inefficient HVAC system running non stop. I'm pretty handy, and did all of MY DIY troubleshooting, and narrowed it down to a board issue, but since I couldn't figure it out, I called in the big guns. I was a little annoyed when I first called McCallisters, because the receptionist seemed absolutely hellbent on getting my payment info before scheduling me, but I'll get to that in a minute. Eventually, they sent out a tech, Kadim, that came to take a look. Kadim showed up, and despite spending a GOOD amount of time with my system, he couldn't figure out what was wrong. BUT, he came to the same hypothesis that I did, suggesting it was a board issue. He even stated that he wasn't SURE, and therefore didn't want to tell me anything conclusive, which I appreciated. He told me that Joe, the service manager, would reach out to me soon, after they discussed the issue and looked at the pictures Kadim took. About that payment stuff; I got a call from Joe, who informed me that they were going to send out another tech with a little more zoned HVAC experience, and also verified that they didn't charge me for the diagnostic the first time, since they never actually diagnosed the problem. Again, a good, honest business practice. SO, today: second tech shows up (Dave), does some diagnostic, and verifies that it IS a board issue, but that the board isn't bad, just had one wire incorrect! He had me test the system, and I finally got to see the zone 1 dampers close! Not only does it fix the issue, and will start saving me money by not having the AC run constantly, but I didn't have to buy a new board and pay the labor to have it all installed. The full cost was more than I would have liked for a diagnostic, and to move one wire, but it fixed the issue, and actually saved me money in the long run. So I'll chalk it up as just the cost of being a homeowner. Either way, I'm super happy with how the whole situation with McCallisters played out. They were quick, (both visits/phone calls etc, took place over like 4 business days), extremely polite and professional, and thorough.

ECI had installed the air conditioner a couple of years prior to my moving into my new home and we called ECI last year to check the unit and all was running well. He had some trepidations about the "Nest" thermostat that was installed by the previous owner, but I didn't want to change it, as I wanted to keep it for the convenience of being able to program it via my iPhone. Well fast forward today, July 30, 2019, the "Nest" went "Kaputsky." I have heard from others about their dissatisfaction with the Nest and therefore I decided to get the non-smart type thermostat. Rich installed it with ease and now my unit is up and running!!! Thank you so much Rich, "You the Man!" (P.S. Rich left the area Spic & Span Clean!!)

During that time he or an employee have been to the house three times. Each time, between the time I called and when they showed up, things would start working properly again. So they would try to diagnose the issue based on my description and do what seemed to be appropriate, and things would be fine for a while but eventually the problem would recur. So yesterday he showed up with an expensive piece of equipment to properly diagnose the issue, and having done so, brought in another expensive piece of equipment to fix the problem. He was there for over two hours, and along the way, he mentioned what he normally charges for use of that equipment because of what it cost him. I was OK with it; I was just happy to have the problem finally fixed. But when he was done, he said that he wasn't happy about the past "misdiagnoses" and I shouldn't have to pay for them, and he ended up charging me about a third of what I was expecting. When I offered to meet him halfway, he said, "Sorry, I've already entered it into the system, nothing I can do." I can't promise that you'll get price breaks like I got on this occasion, but I can promise that you won't get ripped off, and that you'll get excellent service.
