As in others' comments, he was here the next day. He expertly diagnosed the problem: the motor for the fan needed replacement as the bearings were shot. He had the new parts the next day, he pulled out the old parts, took them back to his shop, and came back in the afternoon for the repair. Terrific service! He also went over both AC units, noted a rusted capacitor on one unit. I'll be cleaning both units, as recommended, and he'll be back to service both. He handled the service request very promptly. The value was clear. Long story short, our experience with Nate can only be described as EXCELLENT! Going forward, he's our man for HVAC. John & Ellen G

First visit they ran all the wiring, lines and drain before drywall -- and didn't even take a deposit. Second time they installed both units and protected the indoor unit with plastic and cardboard so the painters wouldn't damage it. They took half the payment then. Final visit, after painting was done, they finished everything, started the system up, and I paid the rest. The same two guys -- Leo and Alex -- did all three visits. They were super professional and respectful. They always parked on the street instead of my driveway, wore shoe covers, and were very careful with my dog. I even bought them lunch twice because they were that nice. Everything turned out great. The room looks beautiful and the system works perfectly. Highly recommend EMCO Tech.

Our boiler broke down in March 2016. We contacted several companies for quotes. EMCO Tech came in…read morewith the lowest price--nearly half the quote from another, well-reviewed local company. I was skeptical. Also, I was wary of the one-star reviews below. When I spoke to the company's owner, Serge, he offered an honest assessment of the negative reviews, admitting growing pains and lessons learned. I trusted him. He also offered all the relevant details about the boiler installation, including the specific make and model of the boiler. After researching the specific boiler, I felt confident choosing EMCO for the installation. The team installed the boiler within a week over two days. They returned several times to make sure the installation was a success. As most experts will tell you: A new boiler will inevitably have an issue or two. Our boiler had no real issues, and we've been happy since installation. Everything works great. I'm writing the review now because I've just called EMCO Tech for yearly cleaning/servicing (which was, again, half the price of other companies). I always tell myself: I should write a review for that company (when they're good). So now I'm writing a review! Thanks, EMCO Tech.

I just paid and said goodbye to Alex, and I was so impressed with him and his work that I felt…read moreobligated to write a review right away. Last year, my heat stopped working. I called several places, but Alex was the first to respond. Over the coming days, as the callbacks came in, I was told that I'd need to schedule a consultation. In contrast, Alex asked if he could stop by that day or the next. Due to a hectic schedule, I asked a friend to be at the house. Alex was very flexible to coordinate with my stand-in. While I was away, knowing I was unable to talk, Alex texted me pictures of the problem and let me know he'd return shortly (something had frozen solid, so it needed t thaw). When he was done, he texted me that the unit was not leveled properly, and it would probably become a problem in the future. I opted not to have it fixed at that time. My bad. Jump ahead to this year... The AC stopped working again this summer. I called Alex on Sunday of Memorial Day weekend, and he got right back to me, offering to come Monday (Memorial Day) morning. Again, I scheduled for a stand in, and Alex made himself available right away. He observed something simple and fixed it right away. He also did a full system check up to make sure all levels were fine and everything was working properly. A few weeks later, there was a completely different problem. It related to the system sitting off-kilter. At this point, he offered a fairly expensive fix, but he said it may work or it may be more of a band aid, as the system will need to be replaced in the coming years anyway because 1) it's run its course, and 2) the type of system will become obsolete in 2020. I was skeptical, so I called my brother who is a contractor in Central PA and has a good HVAC guy. That HVAC guy does work all over the east coast, so he'd have some sense of what's what in Philadelphia. He gave some numbers and ideas, and said that Alex was spot-on with his estimate and the info about the system being obsolete in 2020. Alex was all booked up for the week, so he offered to make the quick fix Monday morning at no cost to hold the system over until he was available the following week to replace the unit. Due to a cancelation, he was able to come today. In addition to the normal work, he had to remove a banister to get the unit to the basement, then he found some 60 gallons of water had condensed and filled some part of the unit, and then he built up an area to make sure the new unit was balanced. He did so much extra work, and then he cleaned it all up. AND THEN, because I was at work, he was able to stop by my workplace on his way home for me to pay him. Really incredible work, incredible availability, and incredible communication. And my brother's guy said he was surprised that the price was as low as it was for being in the city. I expect Alex will get too busy for all of that in the near future, but he's my go to now, and I know I can trust him. Further, he's just really nice. I have enjoyed our communication, and I'm really happy to direct business his way.

At the time, they gave us a great price, but we decided to prioritize replacing our windows instead, so we put the AC project on hold for another two years. After surviving two brutally hot summers, we were finally ready to move forward. We had about half a dozen HVAC companies come out for estimates, and every single one of them--except McHales--wanted to completely rip out and replace our existing ductwork. Many of them cited our blown-in attic insulation as a reason, and it honestly felt like they either weren't comfortable with the job or didn't have the experience or manpower to tackle it. We received estimates as high as $25,000. We decided to call McHales back because we remembered that they had never pushed unnecessary work the first time around. We are so glad we did! The sales representative was knowledgeable, honest, and confident from the start. The technicians thoroughly inspected our attic, took detailed photos and videos to share with the project team, and made sure everyone involved understood exactly what they were walking into before the work even began. When installation day came, the crew arrived prepared and got everything completed in just three days. Best of all, they were able to salvage our existing ductwork instead of replacing the entire system, saving us well over $10,000 compared to the other estimates we received. Our home is so much more comfortable now, and we ended up with a top-of-the-line system at the best price we were quoted. From start to finish, the entire experience was professional, honest, and stress-free. If you're looking for an HVAC company that values integrity, doesn't try to upsell unnecessary work, and stands behind its expertise, I can't recommend McHales Plumbing, Heating & Cooling enough. They earned our trust years ago, and they absolutely exceeded our expectations when it came time to do the job.
