This place is a MUST! if you keep driving down the road you will come across many of these fruit stands, but this is the one you MUST go to. Locally grown products. I am a huge grocery shopper, so obviously in my mind I'm doing the math of how much the difference is from my local store. Seriously the produce is not only top notch but also only dimes away from the prices I see on Sale! So worth it, so affordable! If you go inside you find much more, including, jams, syrups, salsa, powdered milk and butter cream, treats, but best of all, a fun little shake shack w beverages and food. I wanted to try the food so bad I was on my way to a wedding. Anyway a man that works there, Steve, was super friendly and filled me in on their produce. My wife and I come here once a year to get peaches. In the past, we were always greeted by an older gentleman--possibly the owner--who would kindly allow us to build our own box so we could select the peaches we wanted and avoid any mushy or bruised ones. Today, however, the experience was very different. As we were carefully building our box, a young female worker approached us and rudely told us not to remove peaches from the box. She didn't offer any assistance or alternative way to get fresher peaches. Later, when we asked another young worker if they had peas, she briefly pointed us in a direction but continued her conversation with another employee. When we went to where she indicated, they weren't there. We left feeling frustrated and disappointed. The customer service today was unhelpful and discourteous, which was a stark contrast to the warm and accommodating service we've received in the past. read more

Pettingills is one the most festive places along the Wasatch. Especially now. Wall to wall Halloween. I love that most of what's here is locally grown! You can taste several different types of peaches, melons or seasonal produce. I've never been turned down. Mr. Pettingill is usually around and always has great recommendations. Right now their squash, peppers and gourd selection is insane. So much compared to the other Stand across Willard and Perry. I love that they provide local, small-batch products like jams, syrups and vinegars made across the Front too. There's cider donuts from Santaquin, squeaky cheese from Gossner's Dairy. Family owned and operated, great local produce, and a variety of other service including sandwiches, shakes, local collaborations with bread artisans and food trucks makes this a great stop if you are up in northern Utah / Box Elder County. It is right off of the I15 freeway in Willard. If you are looking for a cool local vibe, worth checking out! Only downside is it is busy, but is that really a bad thing. LOL! read more

Interestingly, I drove here after having an appointment in SLC just to get a couple peaches. Literally two peaches. We don't can, or freeze fruit. We just wanted actual fresh peaches that are ripe. We were able to get that. What you can't get is the old Norman Rockwell version of the fruit highway. US 89 isn't 2 lane anymore. The fruit stands sell a lot of additional fruit and veg brought in from out of state. There's nothing laconic about a day hitting the stands on the old 89. That said, if I was canning and freezing fruit, I'd buy here. read more

This place has some of the best selection of local produce in Utah. During the summer whatever is in season can be found here (so much better than grocery store produce!) - and in peach season (mid August - early September) they'll have many varieties of peaches at perfect ripeness to choose from. Rude, Rude, Rude. Visited this fruit stand on a Saturday morning in late August for peaches, corn and tomatoes. The selection is very good and prices seem to be average for a farmer's market. My issue was the service. Yes, they have people there to give you samples of the fruit and the ladies at the register we're friendly, but they also have their fruit police hovering over the boxes and won't let you touch the fruit except in designated areas. I was literally jabbed in the back by one of them and told they if I open an ear of corn to check it to my liking that I had to buy it. "Hey, (jab) you open it you buy it!" I've never been treated this way at a farmers market in my life, and probably won't go back. There are plenty of other farms on highway 89 willing to treat their customers with some level of dignity. read more

Had never heard of Pettingills as in years past I had shopped in Perry and bypassed Willard. Some of my co workers were suggesting I try Pettingills this time. I drove the hour and half to get there and found this place to be very busy and popular. I asked about the different types of peaches they had and asked if they had a sample. I was told I would have to buy one to sample it. I was somewhat taken aback ( especially since there was a peach sitting there with a wedge cut out) but decided to take a chance on the peaches that looked the best. One of the peaches was clearly damaged in the box I was about to buy so I took it out to replace it with another. I was immediately told I couldn't touch the peaches. I find this odd because There is no way of knowing how soft they are without touching them. I said " you're kidding , I can't touch the peaches" . Again was told absolutely not! I thanked them very much and left. I got in my car and went a little further north to Nielson's. WHAT A RELIEF!! I asked the same questions and also if they had a sample. They opened a cooler with cut up peaches and toothpicks and thought both varieties were very sweet and flavorful. I went to get a box and was told I could pick out all my own peaches if I preferred with them saying " make sure sure top it off" by adding more peaches above the rim of the box. They didn't have the crowd or the overwhelming number of peaches but they did Utah proud with their humble and kind attitude. They made me feel like I was a friend. Please note that I haven't been yet this year (2020), and this review is of past years going to the "fruit highway." In light of Covid, we may not get up there this year. Pettingill's is my favorite of all the fruit stands on 89 in Willard. They have always had the best selection and are one of the largest storefronts. Prices tend to vary from year to year. Sometimes their prices are the best or in the middle, and sometimes they are more expensive than the others. I don't know what determines that. It's always crowded with excited people and I wonder how they will handle that this year. I've only been disappointed with my purchase once, but it was not something they could control. I waited until late October one year to go shopping there for peaches and was surprised that they still had any. They were like grocery store peaches that late in the season; under-ripe with a mealy texture. My advice would be to get them at the peak of the season or not at all. During peak season the peaches are heavenly. (I usually go to buy peaches and only get other stuff if it looks really good or I have a recipe in mind) As another reviewer commented, they do tend to hover over their produce a lot, but I've never found them to be rude. Too much handling of fruits and vegetables can leave them bruised and unappetizing. As for the lady who wanted to look at the ear of corn before buying it, what if she had opened and rejected it? Now think of 500 people a day doing that. Nobody will want it after another person has torn it open, and if they have to deal with losses like that they have to raise prices. I'd rather have my produce un-handled by other people so as far as I'm concerned they can hover and police it all they want. They are just keeping their merchandise at top-quality, and in light of Covid, safer as well. They have always been helpful and friendly, and have never dropped over-ripe or substandard stuff into my purchase at peak season. I like shopping at Pettingill's. read more

Probably my second favorite fruit stand. Sumida's beats it only because they usually are slightly cheaper. However, Pettingills seems to have a better variety this early in the season. We'll see how the two fruit stops do over the whole growing season. As I said earlier, Pettingill's seems to have a great variety of produce. Super disappointed today with the peaches we bought. Pettingills doesn't let you choose your own. They are boxed for you. We expression our concern and were given a lecture as to why we can't pick our own. Will buy peaches where we can choose our own next time! Update- called to complain about the peaches today. Took them forever to answer their phone. We were treated very badly. Pettingills was defensive and made excuses. We're not the farmer, don't past you problems or losses into your customer. If this was a bad peach year, don't sell crappy peaches for full price! Sell only the good ones or mark them down. Very unapologetic. Customer service is not their strong suit! read more

Bought beautiful, juicy, peaches from Pettingill's Fruit Farm last year and couldn't wait to do it again this year. We bought two half bushels of crimson lady peaches for $12 each today (mon July 25th). We saw them on a trailer and were told they just came in. They looked and smelled great. We went to pay while the employees got boxed peaches ready for us. Brought them home and almost every single peach was hard and had chew marks from either bugs, rodents, or birds. Very gross. None of them were good enough to eat fresh. All of them need to be severely pared down and only canning will save them. Very disappointed because they looked nothing like the peaches in the bushels on display we "bought" from. read more
