I still receive compliments from friends and family that remember him. With that said, that was years ago. I took Bam-Bam to Ultimate Dog at 4 months? Maybe slightly older. It was the best decision I made. Jean's style, at the time, was perfect for me and my family. She was clear, direct, and could identify the subtle mistake(s) in my instruction. That was key - to know what you are doing wrong while training your dog so you can correct it. My recommendation is to ask questions and have the mindset that you are seeking to learn how YOU will train your dog and you must put in the time. I recall a dog owner from our class that didn't do the exercises and blamed her Rottie for being disobedient. Obviously a dog ran over because it's a dog park and the employees were very rude to the other dog, telling its owner to "get control of your dog". May be a fine company, but just a heads up for all dog owners in Brick who take their dog to the dog park for off leash fun. I left with my dog after seeing this because I didn't feel like getting scolded by a bunch of angry unprofessional looking "dog trainers". They also grabbed the other dog that didn't belong to them, even though that dog did not bite their dog, only got somewhat dominant. Tip for the company: maybe don't bring a leashed dog into an off-leash dog park and expect other dogs not to dominate. Makes no sense. Also don't grab another persons dog by it's collar just because it's disturbing your "training lesson". The park doesn't just belong to you.

I have been meaning to write this for a while now but after our family vacation last week with our…read morelittle "angel" Prissy, I knew I had to make it my priority. I got Prissy from NorthShore in January as a puppy and was told she would be no more than 50 pounds full grown; seven months later she's already 64 pounds and I don't think she's done growing yet, but she's precious and healthy so it's all good. I've always had dogs but like most in my generation, you just had them; we never thought about training. Well, at 52 years old, I knew if I didn't start a good training program with Priss right away, I would regret it. I visited the local franchise pet stores but I didn't feel very confident in their abilities. As soon as I met Helen I knew she was the "one". We began with a Basic class and I immediately saw the possibilities. When Prissy started to actually do what I was telling her to do, it blew me away; what blew me away even more was that I was learning more than she was at a time when I thought my "learnin" days were over (the nest had just become empty and I guess I was feeling it more than I let on). Helen made me look at almost everything in a new way which in turn helped Prissy. She is all about confidence and praise which really, really works. Don't get me wrong, Prissy is most definitely a bull in a china shop but when I tell her to sit or lie down or leave it (just to name a few), she does it (she really does it)! Which brings me to the vacation. We drove to Lake George and stayed at a beautiful rental home for the week before dropping my wonderful son off at college. I was sure I would never see that security deposit again but I was not going to let that hold me back. However, Prissy was so well behaved and listened and didn't jump and walked beautifully on leash and didn't ruin the house... thanks to Helen! Granted I was the one caring for and training and "monitoring" Priss, but without the confidence Helen instilled in me, it would not have been possible. What you need to know most of all is that every bit of the information and training Helen gave me was all done almost without me even knowing it; she's never boastful or condescending or any of the bad things you might associate with learning. I don't know how she does it, but she does it. We often talk about the need for a class for just the owners because we really are the ones being trained; something I didn't believe before I started. I'm sorry this was sooooo long, but I am always blown away when I realize I'm in command of this big, loving, precious, doofy animal and it's always done with love and compassion, again, thanks to Helen's guidance. If you just brought a new angel into your home or if you've had an angel with you for a while, you owe it to yourself to at the very least meet with Helen; I'm sure you will see what I saw. It's never too early or too late to be the pack leader... you just need to learn from the best leader in town. Thank you Helen; for everything. Oh yeah, you will have so much fun with Helen you will not believe you're learning anything at all, BUT YOU ARE!

Helen worked miracles and now our beloved first child (our dog) and baby can safely coexist. We also took puppy training classes with Helen and these were great for teaching our dog basic manners. I name all of three of us as finishing this class because at Kindred Souls, the owners take part in their dog's training. Previously, we brought our French Bulldog, Harlow, to basic obedience classes at Kindred Souls nearly seven years ago; and we knew as soon as we got a new pup, Kindred Souls would be our first stop. Pete is truly incredible at his job and has such an understanding of all types dogs. We truly appreciate how he puts the responsibility on the owners and his program is set up to set the owners and dogs up for success- as long as you listen to what Pete is teaching you. We've watched dogs that were timid and recently rescued come out of their shell and complete the training program like a whole new dog! Pete will not let you take shortcuts, which is what you want from a trainer, in my opinion. There's also weekly homework's provided in basic obedience, which are really helpful in making sure those in class stay on top of what they learn in class each week. Pete's also always available to his clients, which is so beyond appreciated, & helps showcase his true consideration for your pup. I have one nervous dog that doesn't warm up to strangers, but the sitters have been caring and patient with her every time. We can enjoy our vacations that much more knowing that our girls are in good hands. The sitters leave detailed notes for each day they visit and are extremely thorough with each visit (accidents cleaned up, if necessary, mail and packages taken in, play time with girls, outside time, etc.) They have even accommodated last minute changes to our scheduled visits. Extremely professional and friendly business you can trust! No more kennels for my girls!
