Stopped into PetSmart because it's close to my work and ended up finding everything I needed. I bought a leopard-print cat carrier and stocked up on some Fancy Feast cat food since they had a great sale going on. They really have everything you could need for your pets, and I even noticed they had cats available for adoption, which was nice to see. I'm literally so mad I NEVER HAD ANY ISSUES OUT OF PETSMART UNTIL JUST RECENTLY I bought some lamps from there some bulbs for my bearded dragon they had blew out on me before Called they replaced them no problem. Just 2 hours before me writing this The light blew up over my BEARDED DRAGON ENCLOSURE IM BEYOND PISSED AND FOR JON TO SIT AND MY FACE AND TELL ME IT'S NOTHING HE COULD DO BECAUSE IT COULD'VE been a power surge yada yada yada. The grooming people at this location are completely incompetent. I showed Arrianna my dog's proof of rabies vaccine receipt from my vet with an October 2022 date for a 3 year vaccine. Her reaction completely blew me away. She said "I'm not very good at math" to which I replied "Is there a manager here who can read a calendar?". I then thought to myself, do I really want to trust my dog to these people?? She couldn't find a manager who could resolve the situation and I walked out. Too many other decent grooming places around to deal with this nonsense. I've used the same vet receipt where I board my dog and also to get a license at the local dog park with no issues. read more

I took my beautiful long-haired yorkie in yesterday at 11:30 a.m. For a bath and trim. Yes, I gave specific instructions not to cut his hair off but to just shape it and to make sure his beard and ears remained long. That didn't happen. I called about 4:30 p.m., and he wasn't ready. I called back at 7:30 p.m., and he still wasn't ready. When I said, "Forget it," I'm coming to get him, they told me he would be ready in 15 minutes. When I got there, I was pissed; they had shaved my baby bald. I went from having my beautiful prize-winning long-haired yorkie to a raggedy rat cut. I wish I could include pictures. made appointment for dog grooming, and the appointment was cancelled day of due the staff calling off ( I was literally en route to the place). I reschedule, the next appointment required me to bring proof of shoots ( which I don't mind my dogs did renew their vaccines) . I bring what the humane society gave me. The groomer refused me because they didn't hand write the expiration date (it was typed on the vaccine sticker but that wasn't good enough). the groomer told me to call my vet and have the email a copy (on Sunday), once that wasn't a option she told me to reschedule again. no offer to take anything off or even a genuine apology for all the inconvenience, I literally drove the the place twice for nothing. I did not make another appointment and I will now be going back to this location. if you are going to require that vets complete paperwork in a spec way at least allow customers the option to upload that paper work for approval before the appointmen. Worst grooming experience. Ever. And I didn't even get my dog groomed. I had an appointment at 10am. Got there at 9:45am. The groomer wasn't there yet and I was her first appointment. I asked how long for the appointment, they said two hours. I came back in two hours, the groomer was working on another dog. My dog wasn't even looked at. The groomer then turned around and said, our appointments are 3-4 hours. She then turned back around. No other words, apologies, etc. I took my dog. I didn't want this woman with that attitude working in my dog. They are very unprofessional and this is the worst experience. This was my first and last time going there. The grooming salon has stepped it up quite a bit since my initial review in January. since then I have been in about3 times and each time my pup looks perfectly adorable. There is a significant improvement with the check--in process and no line congestion. The staff has been behaving professionally. My dog is ready in a timely manner. Everything just seems more efficient overall. As for the remainder of the store, there are and never have been issues. It is always maintained very neat and clean. Staff is friendly and helpful. Great and unique variety of pet items, gifts. If considering an obedience class, they are pretty good here. We love it here! read more

(Southfield location on Telegraph) It's disgusting, first of all..they have hair all over the floor like they don't even clean it all day..then they just march your freshly bathed dog right through it when you pick them up. I've taken my dog there twice..the second time was out of necessity as I couldn't get her in anywhere else and let's just say in the future..I'll just wait or not have it done at all before coming here again. The only reason I took her was because her nails needed trimming and I picked her up w her nails basically untouched. They said because "she's a fighter". She weighs less than 12 pounds..so that doesn't make sense to me. And they disclosed this to me only after they took ALL the money for the services that weren't completed. The first time I took her..she was supposed to be bathed, nails clipped, grinded and teeth brushed..they called to tell me she was finished before I even made it out of the parking lot. Do yourself a favor and just don't. This place is terrible and disgusting. read more

I brought my puppy here for training classes. We were the only ones in class, which wasn't helpful to get my puppy used to being around other puppies. The classes are very minimal and we didn't really get much out of them. Please train your trainers to give a more thorough and engaging class. The last straw was when the trainer came in 10 minutes late and only spent 15 minutes with us for class. read more

I've been taking my standard poodle Playa to this location for grooming nearly 3 years. They do a better job each time. The groomers seem to really enjoy the work they do and it shows. I like the store but was super unhappy with the grooming... The store is clean, has mostly everything I need, and frequent coupons... I like the staff, they are all friendly. If you have a new puppy,get the puppy starter kit- lots of free things. The grooming is a whole other story... I mainly wanted to come here for grooming because I had a ten dollar off coupon. I explained on the phone that I was in a bit of a hurry due to travel plans... The girl I talked to assured me it wouldn't be a problem if I came in at the discussed time. After having my dog at the groomers for an hour and a half I called to see how it was going and they told me they were just giving her a bath... What the hell were they doing during that time?? They didn't even seem busy when I dropped her off. I then came an hour later because they called and said she was ready and she wasn't. Then I was informed that because my puppy who is 6 months was wiggly and slightly nippy and required two people I would now be getting charged 6 additional dollars. I thought they should have mentioned it before- In general I was unhappy with how long it was taking and then I had to pay an additional fee. I should also mention that the groomer tried to upsell me completely even though we talked previously on a price. Because they were running so late I got to see how they interacted with my dog. The girl was not very friendly but the helper guy was super friendly. The haircut looks good- even. It is a little on the shorter side but it will grow back. I asked for a bandana instead of a bow for the dog and then the girl just decided not to do either. Overall I wasn't happy with mainly the customer service. Worst PetSmart experience ever. I had a grooming appointment at 1:30pm didn't get my dog back until a little after 6pm. When I initially dropped her off , the grooming lady said being it was her first grooming appointment they couldn't give her a hair cut just a trim and wash. I agreed because it's the holiday season and I wanted her groomed. Turns out my dog was last to be serviced and seemingly the lady wasn't to patient with my young puppy's super excited demeanor. I saw from the glass looking in that she really didn't try to give her the trim. My pup left there not looking professionally groom nor evenly cut. If that's a trim ,it is very choppy and she didn't even smell like she was freshly washed or if they sprayed the pet cologne on her. I've been loyal to PetSmart customer for over 15yrs with my other dog that recent past a few months ago but after this experience , I will have to think long and hard after such occurrence if I will return. read more

Any dog of mine is a lucky-ass canine! This cuckoo-for-cocoa-puffs mother runs all over town to keep her pooch happy and smiling. K9 specialties for low priced food and toys, Pet Supplies Plus for marrow-filled bones and PetSmart for great sales prices, dog beds and training classes. I'll even utilize their grooming department once in a while when I'm too lazy to do some nail-clipping. This location is always super clean, full of nice employees and it has a great training department. Try to get Meridith as your trainer, she's super nice and does a great job teaching your pup all kinds of fun things. This particular location also has a PetHotel (which I have yet to try), a Banfield hospital (which I will avoid like the plague) and rescue cat adoptions. And keep you eyes open...once in a while, they will have a decent clearance section or really good sale prices -- sometimes I just can't pass up a good deal! read more

I took the lil dude to get groomed after Christmas and when I picked him up and his eye was red. The groomer assured me that there was a dog in with mine and he extremely matted. This dog stressed a lot of other ones out, hence the red eyes. Um,ok. Lil dude didn't seem to be in distress or anything, and they asked me to keep an eye on him. The next morning, his eye was still red so after calling PetSmart and talking to Shane, they asked me to bring him in. My main concern was that perhaps his eye had gotten nicked when they were cutting his hair. At any rate, they took a look at him and determined that it was a simple bruise on his eye. Eye drops were prescribed and they even called to follow up. I'll be going back. read more

I like this store, they have a great selection of food, toys, health needs & clothes for my tiny chihuahua! I took her in to get her nails clipped the other day & while my dog is only 5 lbs she hates having her nails done & she fights & nips. I informed the girl of this, gave her a muzzle for her & proceeded to watch her try to clip her nails on her own. My dog practically hung herself a couple times on the table & was screaming & screeching like crazy. After her fighting with my dog for about 15 minutes another person who was flipping through the schedule book finally offered to help & while I was embarrassed for the behavior of my dog I was also a bit irritated that there was another person there to help the whole time who really didn't want to. I understand they deal with animals all day long but when the owner is watching her poor dog feel tormented & terrorized the top priority would be to help the dog get through the service. I was about to offer to hold her myself when the girl finally stepped up & helped. Personally I thought the people here were pretty lazy & slow. I waited a full minute before the 2 people who were chatting about their schedules finally stopped & 1 said "can I help you". I said what I was there for & was asked to wait a minute...I waited almost 5 & listened to the other 2 chat & one was just complaining about their job & the dogs so I was honestly expecting more from them. My mother groomed dogs for years when I was growing up so I know what's involved & this place lacks in the customer service department. People's pets are like their kids & they need to act that when when customers are present. read more

Ranking this store is difficult because my visits to PetSmart took a dive when I switched cat food brands given the sensitive stomach of my older fuzzy godling. On the plus side, the store is clean, brightly lit, and stocked well with cat and dog products. The canines seem to get much more love when it comes to variety of toys, foods, and accessories, but I suppose that is to be expected. Employees stop to greet the animals, give much attention to the foster kitties looking for homes, and tend to be fairly conspicuous. For that I'll keep my review in the three star range. Nothing frustrates me more than searching for a single arcane object -- say, claw caps -- and having no assistance when I need it most. PetSmart does not carry a wide variety of grain-free or low grain cat food, much to my disappointment. Their selection for cat food is actually very narrow compared to its competitors, and prices fluctuate with sales. I advise regular shoppers join their savings rewards program or check the website as PetSmart is one of those chains where paying full price is rarely required. All in all, I won't be stopping in as frequently. read more

The grooming service at the PetSmart off 12 Mile and Telegraph Rd needs to do a better job at hiring people who love and care for dogs instead of hiring random people claiming they can do it with a little bit of training. My dog just turned 1, she is a cockapoo, a non-threatening/aggressive breed, unless SCARED. She is always friendly. She has been to this PetSmart at least 3-4 times before. We got reports that she was a little scared, but they were able to find ways to help her get through it. This time, when she was dropped off to get a cut, not even an hour later I was called to come get her because they are discontinuing services for "aggressive" behavior and biting. When picked up, she was noticeably scared and stressed out. She did not look like herself, they only cut her face and HORRIBLY cut it. One of her eyelashes was cut WAY shorter than the other and her face hair was cut uneven. When a dog is frustrated and scared you do not force them to sit still and hold their face still to cut them when they are scared. YOU STOP WHATEVER YOU ARE DOING AND CALL THE OWNER. YOU DO NOT FORCE THE DOG TO SIT THERE AND TAKE WHATEVER PAIN YOU ARE CAUSING THEM. After we expressed concerns and were highly disappointed in the GROOMING MANAGER's responses, they still said we can come back next time to finish and pay then. Of course we never had intentions on paying anything because why would pay for what they did to her? We, then, spoke with the store manager and was told we could be squeezed in to receive free services from a senior groomer by the name of Lamont (apologies if spelled incorrectly). When we picked her up after this appointment she was happy and excited and looking like herself again. He cut Daisy beautifully. Although we are highly satisfied with LAMONT's help, we will NOT be returning to this PetSmart ever again due to terrible customer service. My dog is a baby and is not the first difficult one you all have had, groomers who actually care about dogs take the time to get to know the dog and get them comfortable instead of forcing them. Hire people with better customer service and more experience with handling dogs, especially dogs whom are BABIES and are SCARED. Thank you. read more

I can tell he loves it there because he gets super excited when we pull into the store parking lot just driving The staff is always pleasant and professional and they welcome him by name. He gets a report card when he remains overnight that tells me details of his stay. I've even had staff members tell me the best options to combine packages for services to save me money. I took a chance and sent my two dogs to this PetSmart PetHotel Christmas Eve. through Christmas Day and was very disappointed to say the least. We normally drive way out to Shelby Township Bark-About. When we dropped off the dogs we sent them with their dog food in separate Ziploc bags for each feed with the correct amount for each dog. We have a Boxer weighing 60 lbs. and eats 2.5 cups twice a day and a Boston Terrier who is 20 lbs. and eats .5 cup twice a day. The Boxer has RX food for a serious urinary issue and made the point to the person in charge of intake so they can put the information in the computer. On pick-up day, while waiting for my pups I asked the associate how was everything. He had no idea of my dogs or the sex. He referred to my boys as girls and wasn't aware of food restriction or play restrictions we had specified in the paperwork. When I got them home I notice that the Boxer was thinner and was having a hard time urinating. When I called the PetSmart the said it was mostly because he just eliminated, but after asking a few more questions and waiting for the associate who fed them to call me back, I learned that the fed the Boxer only .5 cup twice each day and the wrong food and the Boston Terrier 2.5 cups twice each day. To make matter worst the Boxer did not get enough food or his RX Food. And it was an Assistant Manager who make this gross mistake. When I asked her, Vivian, why she did not follow the directions given when we dropped them off. She responded that she should have written the instructions down when we gave them to her -- proving she didn't listen or heed the instructions. They I asked her, even if you didn't listen/write the instructions down would common sense tell you a 20 lbs. dog does need 5 cups of food a day and 1 cup of food is too little for a 60 lbs dog. Her pathetic response was, "I didn't even think about it". Very sad. I don't want someone who doesn't think to care for my animals. PetSmart did refund the stay, but my Boxer has had to be seen at the Vets twice and got a secondary infection from not receiving his RX food. Terrible place and is just a fast-food version of a real dog daycare. We will not send out pets back to any PetSmart PetHotel, especially the one in Southfield. If Yelp allowed, I would give then no stars! If you care about your pets health and well-being I suggest you avoid this place as well. There are plenty of great places in the area. read more

I can't say enough good things about the Petsmart chain in general. They have a very wide selection of poochy paraphernalia, which is all I shop for nowadays, but they also have tons of products for pets from cats to fish as well. It's great how all of their workers are very knowledgeable and helpful. Not to mention, I love the fact that they say hello to my dog and offer him a treat every time he tags along. And trust me, it's fairly often because the winter months do not provide for visits to doggy parks, and I have to get Simba out as often as possible so he'll be tired enough at the end of the day. One of the coolest things is that they have a Pet Hotel (boarding for when you're out of town), Doggie Daycare, a grooming salon AND the Banfield vet all in the store. So you can take your dog in to the vet, have them bathed and groomed and then drop them off at daycare all without leaving the store! However, you want to watch out for prices at Banfield. Unless you have a fairly high disposable income, you may want to find a smaller vet. I've heard awesome things about their pet training program as well, which I plan on signing up for soon. They have classes from puppy to advanced, and I think I'm going to take my dog in for the intermediate class. She could use a little more training...and it's only about $100 for 8 one-hour long classes. If they work as well as I hear, it sounds like a great investment! read more

The crew working at the hotel/daycare are AMAZING. My dog gets super excited from the moment I pull into the parking lot and races to the back of the store every time. She is uneasy around people, but I can tell she feels comfortable with them. I have boarded my shihtzu here about 3-4 times in the past with great service. I wish I knew the name of the front desk employee that always helped us because she knows how to handle dogs and knows that my dog needs a little more special care due to his severe anxiety in public. However, today was a little different because an unexperienced manager, named Matea, was at the front desk and didn't try to comfort my dog before coming right at him to put a tag on him; out of fear, my dog barked and Matea jumped up and claimed that he bit her, even though she had no bite marks and my dog does not bite unless he feels the need to protect himself. Matea seemed to not have the time or patience to let my dog get used to her. It must be easy to become a manager there because obviously the managers don't know how to handle dogs properly. PetSmart customer service keeps going downhill and I will be taking my dogs elsewhere for boarding and shopping purposes. read more

I have frequested the grooming salon for the past three years and unfounately I won't be returning. Not only was my dog's paw injured on one visit but the last one consisted of two groomers who seemed to have no control for a larger dog. They couldn't even trim his paws; two were done and two were not. THey had him holed up in the corer with a muzzle. After witnessing that fiasco, I decided that was the LAST STRAW. I was warned to be weary of this location and now I can see why. Too bad Pat is no longer there; she was indeed an asset to the salon. read more

After searching around the store for 10 minutes to find someone to help us we finally found a group of workers...standing around...talking on their phones...yeah I hope you see where I going with this. I use this store because it is only 2 miles from my home, but if there was another pet store in the vicinity I would drop them. Primarily, I use them for feeder fish for my turtle, and if the cichlids are on sale in the past, I might grab one or two. This won't be happening anymore because I had a cichlid tank with 14 Africans and Petsmart had pleco and ghost shrimp on sale for $1. I bought 4 shrimp and 4 plecos. Within days one pleco was dead. Within a week 3 of the 4. I noticed white spots on all of them and then they appeared on my fish. I had never had ick before then but those plecos introduced me to it and it cost me almost half my fish before it was over. The employee said to let the store manager know because he collects cichlids but for what? So I can get a store credit on more sick animals? Pass! Once bitten, twice shy. My only other gripe is that there never is any employees in the fish area and you end up waiting around 15 minutes for service almost every time you go in there. I just left there (10:35 on Saturday the 24th or 25th of October) and I waited 20 minutes and not a soul came. Typical of this store though. read more

If you are looking for a store to purchase dog/cat toys, collars, beds etc. this is a 5 star business. If you are looking for a store to buy quality dog food, I would give it 4 stars. Just like a grocery store they have a couple healthy choices and the rest of the food is rubbish. If you are looking for a grooming location, I would give it 3 stars. Tried it 3 times, the first time my dog had cuts/scraps that they claimed were present before grooming (they weren't). The second time my dog could not wait to get out of there - don't know what went on. The third time they cut the quick on 3 toes. My dog has white nails and you can see the quick so This was gross incompetence. Three strikes, so I will never use the grooming services again. If you are looking for a boarding location, I would give it 2 stars. Overpriced and a lot of staff turnover. A few of the staff are excellent - the rest range from incompetent to questionable at best. Your dog will be in a cell for 23.5 hours a day unless you also pay for doggy daycare (doubles your cost). If your pet has special needs/medications - you need to write them on an 8x10 piece of paper in large clear writing (use clear and simple instructions) - then go to a copier store like kinkos and laminate the sheet - punch hole in top corner and put a binder ring thru it. Provide the sheet on check-in and insist that it is clipped to their cell door. Seriously otherwise your check-in instructions would not be followed. If you are looking for a daycare location, I would give it 1 star. They tell you that they have a scented pee station and they take the dogs for visits to pee station, and every dog knows to pee there. What REALLY happens is they just let all the dogs into the playroom and all the dogs pee and poop in the playroom. It the dog sitter is too lazy/ busy to clean it up dogs slip in the pee / roll in the poop. I have even seen a dog eating another dogs poop while the dog sitter was chatting up another worker. If you are having troubles house training your dog, pass this by as your dog will learn they should pee and poop on tiled floors. They have a we accept all dogs policy - and then if a dog attacks another dog in daycare they will consider banning the dog. My dog was attacked by a large bully breed in daycare. My dog required stitches. I later learned that the pet owner had just rescued the bully dog the day before. Not cool. read more
