I adopted a sweet young cat named "Reese". She's one year and 1 month old. I renamed her CoCo. She is loving and kind. So sweet and was loved by the staff there. She has coloring of a little female tiger. I have been trying to isolate her at first, so she can get used to all the sounds in the house. The process was easy and somewhat quick. It was the 3rd kennel we visited and the minute I laid eyes on her, I knew she was the one. I'm so happy to have her in my life. This experience was honestly very disappointing. I have three dogs, and the cost of caring for them is significant. Beyond grooming, I also regularly spend on fresh food, treats, and other essentials, which adds up to thousands of dollars over time. This is not to brag, but to explain that I take their care seriously and expect a certain level of quality and consistency in return. However, during this visit, one of my dogs was groomed in a way that lacked overall balance and did not feel properly finished. It honestly felt worse than what I could have done at home myself, which was very disappointing. At another place, while I understand that appointments typically need to be adjusted 24 hours in advance, unexpected situations can happen. Being asked to pay $50 without any flexibility in such circumstances felt unreasonable and uncomfortable. Overall, the level of service and consistency did not match the cost, and the pricing felt unclear and inconsistent depending on the situation. These experiences have significantly reduced my trust, and I will likely choose to go a bit farther in the future to find places that are more reliable and consistent. read more

Customer service is poor they have a QR code to ask for assistance after reloading that to ask 7 times no one came over so I walked over the the register and asked the worker he said I will get someone to come help... Awesome as we went back over to to the fish area I stood and watch him help 9 people and he. Never asked anyone to come help.. my wife walked over the the lady at the register she has worked their for years and asked if she could use the restroom as we have been waiting for someone still to come help us and she was so rude to my wife a saying bathrooms aren't for customers... ok moving on with her horrible attitude still no one has come to help so I called the store a man answered and was shocked that I asked for help by calling but he came in less then 2 minutes and helped I could tell he was irritated and I didn't even tell him how I've done X Y &Z just to get someone help it wasn't worth it next time I will just go to our locally owned pet shop or buy online! My anxious dog got a grooming service by Jessie recently. My dog hid behind me and looked super scared when I got to the store. I was worried how she was going to be without me. Pet smart sells happy snack creamy cat treats for over 20$ for 12. At Costco we bought something similar 12$ do 72. WTF.

We had a first time grooming appointment. On the website and near the front door there's a sign that says $20 off your first grooming. The groomers had no knowledge of it and said they would "honor it." Maybe upper management needs to provide better communication because it was confusing. Pet smart also has heavy rules and regulations. I have a larger 60lb dog and she does really well with baths.. but we spend upwards of 20 minutes with the groomer trying to get acquainted and my dog was obviously nervous. She was baby talking and petting her all over... the groomer was acting nervous around my dog and I think it was off putting. We ended up leaving because I don't want to make anyone uncomfortable. But if you have a dog that is nervous and not happy go lucky with everything I wouldn't go here. The groomers were kind, but they said Pet Smart had tough rules on the dogs they can groom. My dog has always done really well at other groomers. In the end we wasted about 2 hours of the day waiting for a grooming that didn't happen so it was frustrating. read more

The volunteers working with the cats needs some serious re-working. Twice I've tried to support the local adoption agency working out of Petsmart, but was met with adversary and a lack of even basic human respect twice. The first time, I should've taken the hint- they don't care about the adopters. I couldn't put a hold on a cat my family and I had visited throughout the week, so of course, that one was adopted very soon after he got there. The volunteer was genuinely upset with me for not being happy for the cat for being adopted, and that maybe it was a sign I shouldn't even get a cat. Silly me to have forgotten that! There was an incident with a Siamese kitten yesterday, where her little cries echoed throughout the whole entire store- not just regular Siamese attention seeking, but it needed help of some kind. The volunteer "checked on her 3 times this hour", and there was nothing she could do. She was very put out that people kept inquiring about the kitten, and snapped at a person in the *crowd of concerned customers*. That poor cat was chewing at her neuter stitching, curling in on herself and chewing on the bars of her cage, jumping and climbing around. Having an attitude with someone wanting to adopt a cat at that moment is not a very great way to ensure I (or anyone I know of looking to adopt a cat) will ever come back. I was hung up on when I tried to call. That being said, please don't look for kitties here. It will not be a good experience for you. read more

Rude employee and manager. All I needed were a couple of 50 cent gold fish. I've had the same 3 of the same kind in the same tank for over 5 years. I bought all of the equipment, tank, and fish there years ago and they have been fine since. Recently 2 died, and I just wanted to replace them. The tank is clean and healthy, and the remaining fish is perfectly healthy. The tank is 3 1/2 gallons and has a filter. I went in, asked for help, and was told I need 29 gallons per fish. What?!?!?! That is bull. The employee said they can grow to a foot long. I Know for a fact that they will only grow to the size that they have space for. Sure, if they are in a pond. Mine didn't grow in the over 5 years I've had them. Then she tells me they WILL grow and get scoliosis. BS!!! It's 3 1/2 gallons, not a drinking glass! The manager started to tell me the same thing over the phone. I'm sorry, but I told him off and hung up. I've had basic goldfish my entire life. I've never left the store so angry. read more

the grooming service is fine. but today we were very disappointed with the service and scheduling. our appointment was at 2p Amber called us and said she wasn't busy and we could bring Ginger in now at 11am. they she had people show up. our dog was there for 6 hours. they didn't take her out for a pee and they should not have let this happen. she sat in a cage for 3 extra hours. very disappointing today. We went in search of dog new sweaters since this has been such a cold, rainy year. The store was very busy for the weekend. There were lots of team members on the floor helping customers. And all of the new summer merchandise was displayed prominently as you walked into the store. The dog wagon and cooling station were very tempting! The staff was not able to locate dog sweaters left over from the winter season. But two associates were able to assist us in finding t-shirts that might help keep them warm until the sunshine returns to Santa Cruz. They showed us the new dog clothing that arrived and helped with sizing. We left with new T-shirt's, toys and several treats to keep everyone happy. The dogs were more than pleased! The clearance section was great too. We found lots of additional items we did not need but somehow they jumped into the cart. Overall, we were thrilled to be able to get the items we wanted instantly instead of waiting for items to ship from the online stores. read more

I showed up and they confirmed I had made my appt for the next day but the groomer was so sweet and willing to take Annie in Saturday anyways! I was so thankful because we were traveling back to our primary home from our second, Santa Cruz! We had to get some things done without Annie able to come with us so for her to take her in meant the world! PetSmart corp keeps this store so understaffed. A checker called someone to meet me at the fish department and about ten minutes later I asked again. Eventually someone came and helped me. Unfortunately, I was asking about the fish tank plants because the label said they must be partially out of the water but the clerk said they'd be fine underwater and they weren't. Than after a very long wait at the check stand I asked the clerk about their staffing. She said that they were continually understaffed and even had the manager running between two stores. The staff are all so nice and I felt bad for them. And then there's the new 'pay a quarter for your shopping cart' thing. If the long wait had only happened once it'd be nothing, but there's continually not enough checkers. I doubt I'll be back. read more

I've only had good experiences with this PetSmart. I stopped here when I first brought home my Lilo for some things I didn't yet have of my own. She was wearing what the shelter gave us, collar and harness, and it was all too big. She actually got out and ran around the store a bit and one of the employees was so nice and helped me catch her. He then helped me find a collar, harness, and leash that all fit her properly. Was able to stock up on training treats, dog food, some toys, and a new bed that she picked out herself too. The line was a bit long as only one cashier was working, but it went by pretty quickly. You can't blame the employees that this PetSmart understaffs its store (though note to the people that run this PetSmart that this is something you should fix - for the sake of your employees and your customers). I've gone back a few times when I've run out of things or used the delivery app to get things delivered directly to my home. I usually try to shop local, but when I really need something, I know I can count on this PetSmart to have what I need and deliver it to me. They've always been very prompt, had most things I needed in stock, and wore masks with delivery. read more

This is a review for Petsmart Grooming. Robyn and Sabia are extremely unhelpful. Robyn even had the audacity to refer to Sabia as a "senior" groomer.... What a joke. They cancel their coworkers bookings because they do not get clients themselves. In my opinion, they should find a new environment to work. The whispering to each other in front of clients and lack of knowledge in grooming is juvenile, caty, and straight up unprofessional. I took my dog to get groomed, arrived 10 minutes before the appointment and within 5 minutes said they were unable to do the job. Even though the booking was with Lily (who was on break). Lily is one of the very few trained groomers here. Robyn stated that I would need to take my dog to have a medical grooming from a vet and then cancelled my appointment on the spot even without Lilys consent or knowledge. Later that evening I had an appointment to get routine vaccines for my dog, so I asked the vet if my dog could get a medical grooming. The doctor said it is not necessary to pay more for a medical grooming and any dog groomer should be able to give him a haircut. This confirmed the lack of knowledge from Robyn and "Senior" Sabia. Luckily the following day, I was able to get a same day grooming appointment on the east side and they gave my dog a haircut with absolutely no concerns or apprehensiveness. I would highly recommend you take your animal somewhere else other than Petsmart Grooming for a haircut. Don't waste your money on the grooming there. I promise your pet will appreciate a more personal and caring groomer anywhere else but Petsmart. read more

You now have to pay a quarter to check out a shopping cart. There is a sign that they will give you a quarter but it's not easy to get from the staff. There are other ways of ensuring that their shopping carts don't get stolen instead of penalizing their customers. The management of this location needs to figure out something else. they are definitely having issues issues as their shelves do not always have the items that the website says that they do. And while some of the staff are nice a lot are not. Time to find a different place to go. Petpals is farther away but such a nicer place to shop. If Petsmart is wanting people to shop local, they are going about it all the wrong way. They should not make it more difficult for their customers to shop. read more

I was in Santa Cruz PetSmart yesterday at midday and was going to browse when I saw the long check-out line. I saw 2 employees in the aisles and asked why I always see a long line at check-out. They said that it is because of a staffing shortage. I wandered around a bit and was leaving when I saw both employees I had spoken to earlier leaving the store, getting into a car, and departing. Amazing. I won't be wasting anymore of my time there if that's the approach to customer service. On my previous visit I was purchasing items and the line was 8 people. I have no complaints about the item I received or the workers at this location. My main concern is with the deplorable state of their fish. I went in to pick up an online order of salt today, and the workers were very overrun with customers (line 15 people deep) but were friendly and helpful when we got to the front. As my husband waited in line I walked around with my son and was astonished at the sheer number of dead fish in their tanks and obvious signs of uncleanness in the tanks. One tank seemed to have only 1/4 of the fish alive and other tanks were obvious with several fish in each tank laying dead on the grave, upside down and no gill movement. As a fish tank owner I would absolutely not trust that the fish are in any condition to be brought into a home tank, and I would worry that I would be introducing disease and illness into my tank if I purchased them.
