We love Pacific Paw so much! Our dog has been part of the pack for over two years. He was a rescue who was pretty shy and nervous, particularly around other people, and the crew at Pacific Paw have really helped nurture him and get him out of his shell. They also reinforce good behavior, so it's like he's getting training, socialization, and exercise all in one awesome package that he adores. He is always excited when they come pick him up and a happy chappy when he gets home (the convenience that he gets picked up and dropped off is also great). Pacific Paw also provides photos and a report of each pack walk/daycare, which is super cute and helpful. I can't rave enough about Michelle (the dog whisperer) and her dedicated crew.

    Our dog with the pack!

Our older and slightly curmudgeonly dog has been walking with Michelle and her Pacific Paw crew for over 2 years. We absolutely love them! They're extremely professional, reliable, and treat our dog with so much care. Whenever Michelle is in the neighborhood, our dog visibly perks up and runs out to greet her. We eagerly look forward to the the daily updates and photos of their adventures that day. I highly recommend Pacific Paw and each member of their amazing crew!

    Rocco and his buds!

Our pup Rocco has been going to Pacific Paw twice a week for the past few months and spent 10 nights while we were on vacation. Michelle and team are amazing! On hike mornings, Rocco hears Michelle's car coming and immediately starts wagging his tail. He's always happy to see his buds. In addition to hiking, Michelle and team incorporate specific trainings throughout the day -- loose leash walking, stay, sit, and overall good manners. At the end of each day, we receive an update and pictures of the day's adventures and Rocco is often the star of Pacific Paw's Instagram posts. Rocco comes home happy and tired and that makes for a wonderful evening. Thanks, Pacific Paw, for including Rocco in your family. He loves you!

Great people. Very nice and gentle with dogs. They're responsible and everyone should feel safe leaving their dogs with them.

Dogs absolutely love being around Michelle, it's almost as if she carries a piece of bacon in her pocket 24/7!

Central Coast: Off Leash K9 Training

A few months ago, we hired OffLeash K9 through their "Board and Train" program, for our Cane Corso…read morepuppy. At that time, he was around 7 months old. At the time I signed the training services agreement, there was zero mention of the use of an electronic training collar as part of the program. Additionally, it is not clearly described or disclosed on the OffLeash K9 website that they utilize these collars as a part of the training-- they use vague language to refer to their practices, including the use of "safe and effective methods", but no concrete examples or definitions. I did not discover that they were planning to use an electronic (shock) collar until well after I paid the $2790 for the training program, I should add. Learning this information gave me pause, and I considered cancelling the training, as I had learned through my own professional experience that positive reinforcement training is more effective to achieve results for dogs than punishment-based training. Nonetheless, I was told and encouraged by the trainer (Izzy) that this method was safe, and would not cause injury. Upon return to me after the 2 weeks, my puppy had injuries around his neck which the trainer referred to as "hot spots". The trainer informed me that it was simply due to "irritation" from the collar. The trainer stated at the time of return that our dog was "stubborn", and "slow to learn". Being a Registered Veterinary Technician, I took him home, and I shaved and cleaned the wounds around his neck, in order to better visualize the area. It was immediately clear that he had painful, necrotic pressure wounds around his neck (see photos). I administered first aid, and consulted a veterinarian colleague for further instruction. I am relieved to report that his injuries healed without the need for more invasive treatment--however, those pressure wounds are not a "normal" result of the use of electronic collars. That occurs when the collar is left in place for too long, and is fitted too tightly. This was a direct result of the misuse of the training collar by the trainer. Subsequently, our dog was fearful of the collar, and, understandably, would refuse to allow us to place it on him. He demonstrated very little obedience as a result of his training, despite our attempts to follow up with his training as directed, and he appeared more anxious than he was prior to the program. Both personally and professionally, I was left disappointed and concerned by this program, and certainly would not recommend it to any of my friends or associates. I question its validity, if management is using and supporting dubious communications, and condoning harmful practices. I have extensive connections in the veterinary medical community of the Central Coast and Bay Area, after an almost 20-year career as a senior veterinary nurse, and I have been vehemently opposing and advocating against this he use of OffLeash K9. I have dissuaded clients from acquiring their services. Furthermore, I strongly suggest that trainer Izzy of Salinas be investigated for misconduct, and potentially animal neglect. My intention in sharing this feedback is to make the community of pet owners, whom I love and humbly serve, aware of the adverse effects of this training program.

Miguel was very patient and skillful in handling our Maltese. Mugi returned to us confident and receptive to basic commands. We were amazed that Mugi walked off leash so obediently! She has coloring of a little female tiger. I have been trying to isolate her at first, so she can get used to all the sounds in the house. The process was easy and somewhat quick. It was the 3rd kennel we visited and the minute I laid eyes on her, I knew she was the one. I'm so happy to have her in my life. If you want to adopt a cat you need to be able to write a check or pay in cash. So grateful I got to her first. She's meant to be mine. Staff/volunteers are so kind and helpful. This experience was honestly very disappointing…read more I have three dogs, and the cost of caring for them is significant. Beyond grooming, I also regularly spend on fresh food, treats, and other essentials, which adds up to thousands of dollars over time. This is not to brag, but to explain that I take their care seriously and expect a certain level of quality and consistency in return. However, during this visit, one of my dogs was groomed in a way that lacked overall balance and did not feel properly finished. It honestly felt worse than what I could have done at home myself, which was very disappointing. At another place, while I understand that appointments typically need to be adjusted 24 hours in advance, unexpected situations can happen. Being asked to pay $50 without any flexibility in such circumstances felt unreasonable and uncomfortable. Overall, the level of service and consistency did not match the cost, and the pricing felt unclear and inconsistent depending on the situation. These experiences have significantly reduced my trust, and I will likely choose to go a bit farther in the future to find places that are more reliable and consistent.
