Owner told one of her other clients that a dachshunds "ideal weight was based on a tail length to body weight ratio", advising her to put her on a crash diet until she was severely underweight- you could literally see every node on her spine. This was incredibly stupid, ignorant, cruel and frankly torturous. I'm also stunned anyone would take medical advice from the equivalent of a hair stylist. Grooming is sufficient while on pricey side, owner allows her intact male dog to roam free & hump whoever he wants; he was constantly mounting one of my 3 until I shooed him off myself. read more

The ladies who work here seem very nice and seem to love dogs. However, I discovered LARGE scabs on both of my dog's back legs after they groomed her indicating that they cut and scraped her while grooming her hind quarters and didn't even notice it or at least inform me. I'm heart broken that my dog was severely injured while being groomed. I would never return to a place that caused two significant injuries to my dog in order to bathe her. Update: My dog has been cleaning the areas where the wounds are and now the areas on both legs are stripped of fur and very red. It's a health threat and it looks terrible. I really wish I had never gone to this place and advise you against going there. I will probably have to take her to the vet and care for her for weeks to make sure the wounds heal without further injury. The wounds are pretty severe. We would never expect this when we take a dog in for a bath. There is no excuse for treating an animal like this. read more

I told her all about what a pill my pooch could be but she had all the right equipment to keep him comfortable. I've used up to 15 other groomers over the years and only one other groomer/spa compares to Kalia but they are 40 miles away. I'm so happy to have her here in Aptos. Convenient location above Deluxe Foods. She did take a day to call me back but it was worth the wait. We had a 9am appointment and she was there, all set and ready for us. First of all, I simply called for a quote this afternoon and was stuck on the phone for an eternity hearing this woman go on and on and on about their grooming process for specialized skin issues. She kept clamoring over herself several times and not making much sense. After about 8 minutes of this she finally revealed she doesn't charge a flat rate, rather she charges $75 per hour and depending on my dogs needs it'll be minimum $75. I get businesses trying to make money of course but my goodness... get your sales pitch together and just be upfront! read more

This review is so long overdue... I am grateful to have found Kaila for filing my crazy Daisy's nails. Daisy is a very anxious rescue pup that is learning to trust people so trying to trim her nails at home was quite a challenge. Even the techs at our vet struggled to do it and never got through all four paws. From the very first visit at Royal Paw Spa - Kaila had a calm presence, handled Daisy with love and compassion, and was not rattled at all by Daisy's crazy mom who's eyes were full of tears knowing her pup was nervous/anxious. A year, and many nail trims later, Kaila continues to be patient and caring with Daisy in each interaction - even using calming essential oils. While you can't schedule appointments for nail filing - Kaila is always very responsive and willing to find times that work. I've generally been able to get in same day. We needed an emergency grooming appointment for a little guy who'd been living in less-than-ideal circumstances, and the vet I called recommended Royal Paw Spa. They could not have been sweeter or more accommodating, even though they normally are booking about a month out, they got him in for an after hours appointment the same day I called and took the most beautiful care of him. He went in at 6 pm, a matted little greaseball, and came out three hours later looking like a show dog. Soft, happy, and smelling like a flower. I recommend this business highly, they obviously genuinely care about your dog and the gentle, loving way they approach the dogs and handle them was awesome to see. The prices were incredibly reasonable, I don't think you could find a better place to have your dog's grooming done. read more

We have just started fostering a dog until he finds his forever home, and when he arrived at our house this past weekend, he was desperately in need of grooming. We called Kaila and even though she was booked out for weeks, she offered to stay late the following day to take care of him, so that he would look his best for potential adopters. Thing is, he is a HUGE dog - a malamute mix - and he had not been groomed for a long, long time. He still had his winter undercoat hanging out, in August. Kaila stayed until 9 at night and gave this dog an incredible makeover. He smells great, too! A very subtle, clean smell, not a fragrance-y smell. Now that we know about Kaila and now that we have seen firsthand her love of dogs, and her dedication to their well being, combined with what a great job she did, we will be sending all of our friends (and our own dog!) her way. We recently rescued a Maltese that was a tangled/matted mess. We brought her home Sunday night and I was desperate to find a groomer Monday morning. Kaila showed us what a talented and dedicated groomer she is: our Norfolk terrier was wagging his tail all the while- usually he'd hide under a desk! Warmly welcomes her 4 legged clients and a smile for us as well. I thought the price was great, just like the service. We had met her at the polo grounds dog park.
