In writing this review I specifically want to focus on one employee, Kathy. Kathy has been an amazing instrument in getting everything needed for our new puppy. We specifically chose her to be our instructor for puppy training classes based on our experience with her in-store and are looking forward to starting the classes soon. Her professionalism, knowledge, focus, and ability to stop what she is doing to help us with our many questions is both phenomenal and unexpected- and something that is a rare commodity these days in any retail store. Our puppy Lilly has been through both beginner(puppy) and intermediate dog training classes with Sarah. She is amazing at training dogs! Lilly is excited to come to class each week. Callaway is the grooming manager. Cassandra Pickett is their DM. These people are an absolute JOKE. Scheduled for Monday. Took the day off. On the way there, groomer didn't show up. Scheduled for Tuesday. Scheduling mistake on their part. They could now only take one dog. For half of the scheduled service. Scheduled for Saturday. We would be 14 mins late due to traffic ( we gave a 30 minute notice) (Pet Smart Policy is 15 minutes). They told us they couldn't do it. Their manager, Calaway, thought it was funny. This store is perpetually out of stock online in the app with the things I need even when I ask the app to sort inventory by this store. The app will say something is available and when I get to the checkout it tells me that several (most) of my items are NOT in stock. Today only 3 out of 10 different items was available even though the original inventory states that it was!! Something is terribly wrong!! Either they're not updating inventory or the ordering manager for this store does NOT pay attention to what sells and what is low in stock. I had to travel miles out of my way to the Libbie Place store....which is ALWAYS up to date!! Ridiculous that this has not happened just once, but multiple times. I've even had one of the cashiers tell me I can get the item they don't have at Tractor Supply. I'm beginning to think he either works there, too, or he has stock in the company! read more

To say that this place is overpriced is an understatement, because the prices are honestly ridiculous. Even if you have a Pet Pals card or whatever, it often only takes a few cents off of canned foods, maybe a dollar off of the retail price of bagged foods. If you can find your pet items at a grocery store, or at an online retailer, the prices are probably better there. I'm all for paying a top price for quality pet food, but I also know price gouging when I see it. I also had a weird experience checking out where I was repeatedly asked by the cashier to make a donation to something called the PetSmart Foundation. Since I had never heard of it before, I asked him what the purpose of the foundation was. He basically couldn't answer my question, mumbled something about "helping animals" and continued to ask for a donation. I was baffled that he couldn't explain the organization's misson, couldn't even hand me a freaking pamphlet, and so I declined. He then became very smug, patronizing, and "holier-than-thou" because I declined to donate. Whatever, dude. Am I really supposed to donate to a charity I know nothing about, especially after you can't even tell me what kind of work it does? Don't think so. read more

I am a BIG fan of the Blue Buffalo Dog food, and their selection is really great in here.... Easy to get too, and the prices are not bad. The people who work there are extremely friendly and helpful. Like most places, they need more help on the weekends... Also, they have a Vet on the primes if you need one, and they also sell prescription Dog & Cat food. Great place to shop.... I'd like to primarily focus on one employee that we had a wonderful experience with. Alice was incredibly helpful when asked to inform us about small animals, as we were hoping for a pet for our daughter. She explained what might work best for our family, and even opened the cage so we could get a closer look at the Guinea pig. She answered every single one of my questions and showed us exactly what we would need to care for the animal, including cage setup and nutrition. She said she hoped she'd see us again, and to ask for her if we need any additional help. I feel as though there are not many employees like Alice anymore. She really cared for the animals and that was evident. I also felt like she cared about me as a customer and had my best interest at heart. She was very patient with all of my questions as we went back and forth comparing animals and how to appropriately care for them. Her knowledge and work ethic should absolutely be recognized. read more

Going here is like getting a hair cut at boot camp military, your choices are low, medium low and really low that's it. Forget about asking for 1"- 2' off or anything specific, because their automatic response is your dog is rally matted or he has thick coat. Their grooming department is horrible... They a bunch of kids working their that have no real grooming skills. My poodle has curly hair, and i brush him twice a week, I made sure he was not matted before i took him in because they always "oh he's matted, their for we have to shave all his hair off." I only wanted an 2" taken off, but the girl insisted that it she had to take all his hair off. I signed their form but did not check the box where they needed approval to shave him! I left 20 minuets later i get a call saying that i did not initial the form and the groomer is now uncomfortable giving my dog a cut, I asked they have anther qualified person to do it and they said they would just rather not deal with this situation! What a waist of time.! I ended up taking my dog to real pet groomer down the street and they did exactly what i asked for, with no hassles or question. PETSMART STOP HIRING INEXPERIENCED GROOMERS WHO JUST TURNED 18 YEARS OF AGE AND SOME REAL GROOMERS....AWFUL EXPERIENCE WILL NEVER GO BACK! read more

Stopped by here for dog food today, when we pulled up we discovered it was adoption day so the parking lot was filled with puppies for adoption. I'm not a dog person, but they were so cute. My bf is looking or a German shepherd, they didnt have any but he will keep looking anyway. The funny thing was I watched some of the people checking out the puppies, there was a guy literally laying in the ground with the puppy curled up beside him letting him and bi ding with him.. I went I. The store and came out, they were still there,, it looked so crazy, lol My only complaint about the store is they cater more to dogs than cats or any other animals. I love cats, and have one. I wish there were more toys and things for cats. read more

I have to compliment the cashier I had last week while at PetSmart. I had to buy a new dog bed, and I couldn't wait for my beloved Amazon to deliver me one. After going to Petco (they literally had 2 dog beds in the whole store) I went to PetSmart to find something for my 45 lb. dog. When I went to check out the dog bed rang up at $129.99. I noticed the tag on the shelf said $69.99 when I was looking at the different ones and I pointed this out to the cashier. She changed the price, no questions asked. I at least expected her to make me show her the tag on the shelf, but no, she just adjusted it for me. This was great customer service. I appreciate her taking me at my word and helping me out. Anyway, a $130 dog bed?! I'd go to Orvis if I wanted to spend that! read more

I recently got a puppy. I went in to get a harness for my sweet Jackson. Jackie was very nice as she made sure the harness fit him perfectly! She also helped me find the best training snacks he would like. I picked up two chew toys that were buy one get one 60% off. When I got to the register the cashier said it wasn't valid. Jackie gave it to me anyway because that was what the sign said. The customer service was amazing! I would go back to this specific location. read more

DON'T BRING YOU'RE DOG HERE FOR GROOMING!!! THEY TREATED MY DOG HORRIBLY AND I WILL NEVER GO BACK THERE AGAIN!! Recently took my Yorkie in for a routine haircut. I have two Yorkie's, and have been coming here for over 8 years to get them groomed. Usually, we drop them off for their appointment and wait for the phone call that they are ready for pick up. For the most part, we have been happy with the results. However, this time I was nearby the Short Pump Store and decided to stop in to see if she was all done. I walked over to the grooming area and noticed that she was still being groomed. I stayed back a little so that my dog couldn't see me as I didn't want her to get anxious and become hyper. I watched "Anna" grooming my dog and noticed how rough she was being with her. Anna was pulling her hair near my dog's chin, and combing her beard very violently. My dog kept jumping upward in obvious pain, and Anna kept grabbing her and pushing her down, and then started yelling at her. I went and sat down on the bench right outside the grooming door, so that Anna could see I was watching her. I also went and spoke to the Manager on duty. I think his name was Steve (Smaller / Older Man). I explained to him what I observed and mentioned the writing on their grooming window states that "grooming isn't what we do, it's what we love" surely isn't the case here. He started laughing, which I didn't find amusing. He then went into the grooming department to check on my dog and came back to me and said he didn't notice anything. I found this unacceptable and made my feelings clear to him. I then heard Anna announce that my dog was ready over the intercom system. As I went to pick my dog up, Anna could tell that I was very unhappy with her. She then asked if my dog is normally squirmy. I told her that my dog is the most sweet and docile dog I have ever owned. Anna went on to tell me that I should start holding my dog by the hair under her chin while at home on the couch to get her used to this treatment as that's Petsmart's practice on handling the dogs during grooming. I explained that I found it very strange that she has been coming there for 8 years and I never once received any negative feedback. Clearly, she felt defensive since she knew I observed the way she was handling and yelling at my dog. I will never go back here again and recommend that if you get you're dog groomed here you come back early to observe how they are handling you're dog. You will probably be surprised!! read more

Took my dog into the Short Pump location to get his nails trimmed. When they looked up my account they said are you aware of our new policy? Two of the people were trying to tell me they have to put my dog in a different type of harness in order to do this. I said OK whatever works best. My dog is very anxious going in PetSmart and my gut told me he'll be ok. Not at all. They only trimmed the back nails and when I walked in they didn't see me and said OK we are done with him. Then they wanted to know if I had a Vet that I took him too and of course I do bc they have our shot records are in their system. I will never go back in there again for anything and I will tell everyone I know about the rude grooming employees. read more

I've been to a few Banfields in different cities and this was my worst experience. I went to Banfield at short pump for my dog's rabies shot and also to get information on how to go about starting dental work because I have a 16 year old Maltese who because of his age is already having bad dental problems. His mouth is sensitive and tender, he can only eat soft food, some of his teeth already fell out on their own and he basically won't let no one touch his mouth because of his pain. I was seen by Dr. Grove, she came in we discussed why I'm here and I specifically explained MY DOGS MOUTH HURTS so she said the first step is bloodwork so I agreed. She said the bloodwork is done in the back room not in front of me so for me to wait in the exam room for him so being that this is a trained and licensed "Doctor" I gave her my dog. After 20 minutes my senior dog was returned to me and he was completely chewing on the side of his tongue, spinning in circles, aggressively passing his front paws pass his mouth and whimpering as if he was in bad pain. I tell Dr. Grove and her assistant and they inform me that they restrained his mouth with a muzzle to draw blood because he wasn't being friendly about the blood drawn. Now I am NOT saying that they were wrong for muzzling a dog BUT can someone tell me WHY in the world would anyone especially a "Doctor" put a muzzle on a dog that is at the vet because his mouth is in pain?? That's like me bringing my dog into the vet because of a broken leg and they put my dog on a freaking treadmill!!! You just don't do that! As a doctor, Dr. Grove should've stopped and came and asked me if I was okay with restraining his mouth with a muzzle because he is there in the first place because of his mouth issues or at least allow me to be in my dogs presence for the blood drawn to see if that would calm him since I am his owner of 16 YEARS! But she didn't even ask or give me a chance she just slapped that muzzle on my senior dog making his health way worst than what it was when he got there and all they kept telling me in the room was "oh he's okay maybe it was just uncomfortable the muzzle but he's okay don't worry" NO HE WAS NOT OKAY! Long story short my dog was returned a complete different dog. I took him home his jaw wouldn't close, his jaw was shaking and trembling non stop, he continued to chew and paw on it in discomfort and on top of that refused to eat any food when he was eating perfectly fine prior to seeing Dr. Grove and her muzzling nonsense. I contacted Dr. Grove the next day to tell her about his issues after my visit and her response was "well you can bring him back in so we can take a second look but you're going to have to pay for the visit" like really??? I didn't even insinuate I wasn't going to pay it was so unnecessary and she just continued to be insensitive to what my senior dog is going through and just said "he's fine he's fine". I went the next day and got my dogs bloodwork and took him to a real and experienced vet. This vet after examining him told me the pressure of the muzzle made his back teeth cut into his already painful & deteriorating gums and formed a small abscess. Now more poor dog is at home for a week and half until his surgery date on antibiotics, in pain, struggling to eat and in extreme discomfort and pain because of the stupidity and lack of common sense of Dr. Grove in Banfield. DON'T TAKE YOUR PET HERE! I paid almost $300 to just have my dog hurt more than he's ever been his whole life. read more

I went to drop off my 8 month old bloodhound puppy at the grooming salon for her second bath. When I dropped her off, the salon was visibly busy with plenty of young people working. A boy who seemed like he had never touched a dog before skiddishly tried to leash her, but she was trembling and hunkering down behind us. A young girl (who looked visibly afraid of my pure-bred, non-aggressive bloodhound PUPPY) rushed up and told me she cannot do aggressive breed dogs. I told her a bloodhound is not aggressive and our puppy has never shown signs of aggression, and we left, with the dog still trembling, tail between her legs. We were gone for less than 15 seconds and they called me over the loudspeaker. The girl told me the puppy attempted to bite her and they could not bathe her. The dog was still cowering down, trembling, in the same spot that she had been in on the floor; there is no chance that in the fifteen seconds we were gone that a situation like that could have escalated and then so quickly deescalated. My dog has never bit a single person, has been around PLENTY of strangers, and has never shown signs of aggression. The groomers seemed young, inexperienced, and lazy. We will never shop at another Petsmart again, and definitely not this location. read more

Took my dog into Petsmart in Short Pump, VA. to have his nails cut and filed. Decided to splurge and bought the Pawdicure Plus which includes nail clipping, filed, hair in between toes trimmed, ears cleaned and teeth cleaned. $26 plus $3 off. So why did it only take like 5 mins for all this. They trimmed the nails but did not file them down. The nails are all ragged. As for ear and teeth cleaning, it entailed a spray into the ears and mouth. Then had the nerve to give us a discount of $3 to make it ok. I would have rather they did what they promised. I could have done this better. There is a reason why I took my dog to "so-called" pros. I am very disappointed with this. I have had his nails clipped in several places and this is the worst job ever. I wish I had been the one to pick him up. My husband did not check to see if the work was performed well. He just took the groomer's word who stated that everything was done. Horrible. Do not take your pets here. read more

My wife and I have shopped at Petsmart loyally for ten years. We have patronized Petsmarts in IL, NY, NJ, FL and VA. 1) The cashier was insulting and rude, insulting me to my face and to others repeatedly. I was calm and polite through this exchange, but the cashier was consistently unprofessional, stopping the transaction to lecture me, though it was unmerited. 2) Two managers were brought in to relate with me. Both were glassy-eyed and hung over (in appearance - they both appeared quite disheveled). Neither made any effort to repair the situation, merely trying to get me to leave, though the cashier was the one in hysterics. At one point they did describe the cashier involved as "unstable". 3) None of them wore their real names on their name tags, possibly trying to avoid culpability. 4) A machine to wash the floor was being run all through the store - the floors were wet all over, without caution or signs to warn anyone. This was FAR from the standard we have come to expect from Petsmart. read more
