My dog has received treatment and grooming from Banfield Hospital and PetSmart groomers for more than 8 years, and I am saddened to find that at this point in my little guy's life, I will have to find new providers for both his health care and grooming needs after the treatment he received from both Banfield Hospital and PetSmart groomers of Christiana, DE. On February 22, 2025, I took my little guy to the PetSmart groomer in Christiana, DE to get his regular wash and cut. I informed them to be careful of his leg because per Banfield Vet he had torn his ACL and it was still healing. He can stand, run, and play but I still wanted them to be careful. Because my little guy is almost 15 years old I decided not to put him through surgery, but to just let him take it easy and heal as best he can. He is on pain pills and is doing well, but the PetSmart groomer said they had a dog with the same problem earlier in the week and the dog had a difficult time getting groomed, so she wanted to speak with the vet. I told her that it was fine since the vet shared the same space as the groomer. She asked the lady at the vet check-in counter about my dog's leg to which she called out across the room to me "Where did you get his surgery done?", I replied I didn't and as I informed the Vet, I am not having my dog go through surgery at his age, at which point she rolled her eyes at me and went in the back. When she came back out she turned her back to me and whispered something to the groomer. The groomer returned to me and asked if I felt comfortable with having my dog groomed to which I replied absolutely. She said she would be with me in a moment. She went into the salon and another person came out and stated that they could not groom him due to liability concerns which is crap because the other groomer said they had just groomed another dog for a customer earlier in the week. The fur on my little guy's paws has now covered his pads and he is slipping all over the floor risking greater injury to his leg not to mention the matted fur. These two companies are supposed to care for our pets and so far right now these two companies are causing my little guy nothing but pain. So very sad to see what was a great relationship end on such a bad note. read more

When asked the store manager denied not that their advice led to the death of the fish but that this 11 year old actually bought the fish there. They later defended their actions by say that they don't actually hire experience or train the people they hire. I brought my 7 month old poodle in who had never gotten a cut before so he was fluffy and full . they asked me how do I want him cut I showed them a picture and also told them what length I want . I wanted hair to still be on his body all around . they insured me they can do it . I come back into the store my dog is completely bald everywhere. I was very upset and very mad . when I pick him up she was still cutting when it was already low . That was my first and LAST time ever going there . I paid 149.00$ for a cut that I didn't even ask for and was very disappointed that they would cut my dog like that after I told them I didn't want that . She literally did what ever she wanted to do . I do not recommend that store or her to anybody !! Now my dog has a severe irritation on his skin ... She should not be cutting anyone's dogs .. I booked a grooming appointment for my dog before reading any reviews & was a little nervous to drop him off after hearing some other experiences. I'm so glad I didn't let them deter me. My dog can be reactive with certain groomers so I was nervous that a brand new groomer would scare him a bit. He looks amazing but most importantly the staff was so friendly and I was reassured the second I handed him off. Brought my 11 year old dog in for a simple nail trimming. She is also overweight. She has a heart murmur. The new girl was trying to pull her in with a choker leash. It means so much to me to know I can drop our precious little boy Cody off and know he will be well cared for and look like a Shih Tsu when I pick him up!!! I tried many other groomers and was finally happy to stumble into the relationship with Courtney at PetSmart! I highly recommend her!! Thank you so much for treating our little one with patience and care. I should have listen to my gut and stay away from this place but I wanted to give it a shot for the first time. I dropped my dog around 1:30 for his appointment and was quoted 3-4 hrs until he will be done. I decided to go around 5 pm to do little shopping at the pets mart knowing he will be done about half an hour. I walk to grooming lobby just to see how he s doing coming to find out he was only washed and drying around 5 pm and the groomer still hadn't even cut his hair or did his nails. I'm like he's waiting since 1:30, it's Fucking ridiculous. The groomer was still cutting another dog. Their reasons was one groomer called out and they got overbooked. So then , stop getting overbooked if you can't handle all these dogs. If I let my dog still be there he would been there for over 6 hrs. I decided to take my wet damp dog home and dry him at home. I would never take my dog there ever again!! Horrible customer service and they need to get their self in order before they treat these dogs in such cruel way stuck in a crate in the back. Terrible service. Took my small yorkie to get groomed. When I picked him up it was not at all what I asked for. I showed them a picture and said to take him halfway down and they just shaved him all the way down and gave him a choppy cut. He was not matted at all, he is very well taken care of, this also took 4 hours for whatever reason when my dog isnt even 10 pounds. Absolutely would not recommend to anyone. DO NOT GET YOUR DOG GROOMED HERE! I really should have read the reviews and I am smacking myself now! We went for the puppy trim (5:30 PM-6:30 PM), online it says $17.99. We go in and the groomers are just staring at us and my dog (3 months old). She proceeds to tell me his hair is matted. As a new pet owner, that worries me as I pamper him and treat him like royalty. Anyways, she is showing me and tells me that she has to shave him completely, etc. I now feel defeated like I really messed up with him. She tells us that they close at 9 and that if we do not get their call, to either call them or come 45 mins prior to close. That did not make sense but okay, then proceeds to tell us that the cost will be $80+... uh what?! My boyfriend agrees and we walk out, leaving me confused and beyond annoyed. We walk around the store for over 45 mins and I am still in shock of the price but we proceed to dinner. We come back at 7:30 and he is not on the grooming floor. I am freaking out now since my dog is almost 3 pounds, he has never been around this many dogs and is honestly probably freaking out. One of the workers who was just standing there and can tell that I am clearly upset lets the girl know in the back and she comes out with my dog, who has not even been touched yet. Once she is done butchering him (just his body, not back, head or legs) she brings him to the back again, 10 mins later, brings another dog out. WHERE IS MY DOG!? Long story really short... I am now beyond upset, another 15 minutes go by and my boyfriend asks her how much longer, 'probably another hour'. That is when I come in, fuming, tell her I want my dog back now. We have been waiting almost 3 hours now. He is still not done, and this is not what we signed up for. She says he is not done yet, she 'let us know it would be 3+ hours' and I let her know I do not care we will pay for everything she has done. Not to mention, we do not live close by. We finally get him back, I am holding in tears at this point. We go to the front and let them know we will we not be paying $77 lol. The manager completely agrees and just as upset as us. She said she would just let us do the 'Look Great Guarantee' service, but working in the service industry I am not one to leave without paying since they did do a service, even though it was shoddy, we paid for some anyways. Moral of the story: Go to a professional, especially if it is your first time. We were on a time crunch and I was tired of not seeing his eyes. But this was ridiculous. NEVER GO HERE FOR GROOMING! They basically butchered my 10mth old YorkiePoo to the point the groomer stopped 3/4 thru the cut and claimed the puppy was too matted and uncooperative for him to continue any further. Our puppy is very sweet and easy going and we brush him often. The groomer obviously did a hack job and didn't know how to repair it. The manager was useless and refused the suggestion of letting a more experienced groomer repair the damage caused by the 1st groomer. They handed me back a traumatized puppy with a short shaven body, uneven hair on his neck and head, and wefts of long hair sticking out of his chest. I will now have to locate and pay another groomer to repair the damage they have caused. It is an outrage that they would hand somebody back an unevenly shaved dog and act as if it isn't their problem. We are beyond angry that they have victimized our puppy. read more

My husband took our pup to go get groomed and she just kept fighting with my husband about my pups breed of dog. Trying to get more money out of us it seemed. Also just a bad experience all around. We love this pet smart. We use the banfield vet here and they are wonderful. Everyone in the store is very helpful as well. Upon coming to vet today we had to wait for a room to be ready which is totally normal so we walked around. The staff was great and friendly and loved our little Boston terrier. We then went over to the groomer side to see the doggies since we are very dog friendly. We noticed one of the dogs screaming and sounding like he was in the pain. The groomer who was trying to cut his nails was being very forceful with grabbing at his feet. She then yelled in his face to shut up and stop it. He continued to scream in pain and she continued to be mean to this poor doggie. I did make a complaint to the vet and I hope they fixed the situation but I also hope she doesn't have her job much longer. If that was my dog I would of lost my mind on her. read more

They estimate it will take 3-4 hours and for the past few appointments they took more than 4 hours. I have been taking my dog to PetSmart at Churchman's Road since she was about 6 months old, she is now 4 years old. I feel really lucky to have found Emily at this location to groom Molly. Emily is such a kind person and a lover of animals; it's very evident by the excitement Molly shows upon hearing her voice. Emily is very professional and takes her job very seriously. There has never been a time when I was unhappy with my experience at PetSmart. While Emily is my preferred groomer, there have been times when she was unavailable. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE IN THE GROOMING DEPARTMENT! I have always heard horrible feedback about PetSmart's grooming, in particular this location. I thought I'd proven them wrong considering the OK job they've done on my puppy thus far, until today. I made an appointment 5 days in advance. 5 days. Only to receive a call 7 hours before my dog's appointment and the day before I go out of the country for 9 days. They tell me that on my dog's profile (which apparently only they have access to and do not inform their customers) that he is listed as "wiggly" and cannot be seen on "busy" days. I cannot imagine what breed of young dog is not wiggly throughout this process and why you would not take this into consideration. If this has been on their profile since his last appointment, over a month ago. Why not inform me so I can go about scheduling properly? Why not tell me when I book the appointment? Instead, you tell me 7 hours before his appointment, on a holiday weekend and inconvenience your customers. Spoke to a manager named "Courtney" which I know was not in fact a manager because the level of insensitive was like no other. Not once did she extend an apology, explanation, or provide any form of understanding. Some type of empathy would have been nice. If this is the type of manager PetSmart hires, shame on you. The employees throghtout the store have always been friendly and helpful. But the groomers, not so much. PetSmart has certainly lived up to the horrible experiences I've tried to ignore for the sake of my pup. However, since they are commercialized people will continue to support. The staff is great and welcoming, always super helpful. They make our dog feel so loved just walking in the door and some staff know her from coming back. We have had questions for pets in every department aside from cats and the staff is knowledgeable and helpful, always willing to take the time to walk you through all your options. Asked my mother to pick my dog up from the Petsmart groomers for me today and the next thing I know, I'm getting a call from her saying, "You're not going to believe this! They shaved him bald!" Why would they do that? And he is bald. I don't get it. He's part collie/part retriever. They're known for their beautiful long hair. Why would they think we wanted all his hair shaved off down to the skin? Do they not know that a retriever's hair serves a purpose when he swims? When my mother asked them why they did it, the girl just said, "Well, that's what they did last time". No it wasn't! If that was what they did last time, there would have never been a this time.
