We decided to finally get my kids their first pet! In our minds we were thinking fish, tiny fish bowl and a little water. Sounds easy enough right? Wrong!! We had absolutely no idea how much we needed to care for a fish luckily Megan was there to educate us and make buying a fish a seamless process. We ended up buying a lot more things then we anticipated but lucked out with the Independence Day sale. Many items were discounted. The entire vibe of this store is loving! All of the customers socialized with each other even if they were strangers. That was really nice to watch strangers being kind and supportive to one another. Was in the area when I received a notice that my Chewy delivery would be delayed due to weather. Ran in real quick just to grab some cat food and litter. Everyone inside was extremely friendly and the location was very clean. When I arrived at the counter, the cashier informed me that they offered price match. He had overheard me talking in the store with my friend about my chewy package being delayed. It honestly made my day and I will definitely return just for the price match. read more

I came here to say what a fantastic experience I have had at the Mechanicsville, VA store with training with Sandy Y. I wish I had known about her before because with other private trainers and other dogs, I have not had such a positive training or behavior outcome. Her patience, knowledge, and reward-based system have been great for my 2 dogs. In the last 3 years, we've taken six of her classes. My adult rescue dogs had no prior training and the lab has sailed through the 5 classes we signed up for. The pure mutt, who is a nervous nellie, is a permanent beginner but has come a LONG way with Sandy, and the socialization has really boosted her confidence. Sandy has helped us purchase the proper dietary supplements and training tools we needed all along the way. Your trainer is available to her students even out of class and has answered my questions cheerfully and readily via text many times. I had a grooming appointment on Tuesday this week for Mikey, my yorkie. Our appointment was for 5:30 but someone called asking if we wanted we could come early. I guess I got there about 5. When I walked in a groomer was attending to a beautiful black pom. The poor thing was on the noose and she was flipping him over and he slide off the table. She grabbed him up complaining the entire time, be still I'm not hurting you, why are you making that noise, don't you try biting me, etc. It was so loud my dog Mikey started to bark. I had to bring my dogs rabies shot papers in but the entire time I couldn't help but pay attention to the groomer with no patience and the poor Pom. He was so helpless. I wanted to say something but she looked like one of those real tough characters from a prison movie. No lol intended. Granted it was late and I guess she was tired, But... Sooo when the cashier was finished with my paper work and ready to take my yorkie telling me to come back at 6:30 to pick him up, I had him in a basket. I made a U-turn so fast and told her. That's ok I changed my mind. My dog would have been her very last dog and it's no telling what he may have experienced. She was shocked but no more than I was at looking at that groomers handling of that poor Pom. I wish I knew who's dog that was, they shouldn't have had to pay for that visit. The folks who received us and checked our baby in for her 7am grooming appointment this morning were really sweet. However, when 3 hours later, we got a call that they had "found" a cut on the edge of her ear, I knew they messed up. The reason behind this one star review (and those on all their other online forums) is that they did not admit what they did. On the same call, they said everything is fine and "in such situations", they just call and make sure we know what's happening. And that they "generally handle vet costs" when they "discover" such things, and said the vet applied some ointment and she would be fine by tomorrow. I was away for another medical appointment and my partner hates conflict, else I'd have spoken to several other people at the location to try and resolve this issue there and then. Having been unable to do that, I have submitted messages via their website contact forms. I will update this review if I hear back from them. I am posting one pic of her regular ear for reference and a few of the damage they inflicted on our baby. They . This is my first time with PetSmart grooming on Bell Creek. My two dogs have never gotten their nails trimmed or had a professional bath before. I normally do it. I'm tired and just moved into a house where I can't give them a bath quite yet. Made an appointment for as soon as possible, they couldn't get me until a week later. As I was dropping them off, the phones were ringing off the hook, customers were yelling and screaming at the groomers, and it was chaos. Someone came to take my dogs and was frantically pulling them behind the doors, barely talked to me. My dogs first experience in a groomers salon was terrifying for them.. I'm completely upset and I probably won't bring them back. This can be traumatizing for animals and the lack of care and compassion in this building is disappointing.. My dogs enjoy going to the vet.. but they are scared to walk into places like this? They can sense the stress level and fear.. I'm pretty angry. I do not recommend their PetSmart grooming services. I set up an appointment to take my little puppy to get her hair groomed at this facility. One of the groomers refused to cut her hair due to having some matting in spots. I asked for further clarification and was confused with why she began to insult my intelligence with her words and attitude. At one point she even remarked that she was surprised with me having a master's degree that I could not understand what she was saying. The others in the room were shocked at how she was acting and I left the store in tears. I ended up going to a local pet salon who had absolutely no problem with grooming my dog. When I called later to put in a formal complaint, the person on the phone acted surprised that the groomer acted that way. It was almost in a way that was questioning the validity of my experience with them. I asked them to look into the situation and ask the other groomers that were in the room to back up my story since they too seemed embarrassed and horrified that she had talked to me that way. At the end of the day Petsmart needs to work on their customer service as they have lost any future business from me. read more

Petsmart had a killer sale on supplies that I couldnt resist... The store is nice, I just got a cat this weekend.. The sales representatives were helpful and nice.. What drew me in there was the adoptions that were happening from 1 to 3.. When I got there, I was disapointed cause they didnt have any kittens, but I hung around chatting with the Hanover Humane society ladies, and got very lucky.. Someone called on the phone wanting to drop off 2 cats.. But the HHS didnt have anymore space so.. I offered to take him.. And i got the perfect 8mo old cat :) saved me $85 adoption fee and i got the same as if I had paid, he came neutered and has his shots. :) This is a classic being in the right place at the right moment situation! If I could give a zero or negative review on grooming for Petsmart in Mechanicsville I would. I am meticulous about grooming my Bichon to keep their breed's classic show ready look. I wish there was a way to post a picture because they shaved her head to toe. It's so short here tail was bleeding when I picked her up and her back is pink! She is unrecognizable. Petsmart groomer said they would cut her "a bit short" because she had some matting under one ear and some on her leg. I would've taken her home if this is what they were going to do. She was NOT matted very much or I would've already known it and brushed it out after getting her home, instead of them shaving her ENTIRE BODY!! I'm 77 and she's precious to me and I couldn't even sleep that night after I picked her up. BECAUSE, when I called the store to complain they made excuses for the groomer mentions a small 2 areas of matting and did not acknowledge my upset or even provide an apology. Horrible customer service, horrible grooming!! Please don't get your dog groomed there. I will never go back and I get her groomed every 6-8 weeks for years. read more

Had horrible experience here today. Paid 60.00 to get my dog groomed and I get him home and he has two huge ticks on him that they did not even bother to pull off or tell me about. To me that is just ridiculous that you would groom a dog and not get the ticks off of him. I will not be going back here again !!!! read more

I've been going here for years to buy supplies for a wide assortment of furry (all sizes), winged, and wet pets and foster rescue animals. I have never had a bad sales experience here. I can't address the living conditions of the critters who live here because I really don't look at them. I race in and out just for supplies. Four stars only because they are sometimes out of the supplies I use. I had two small dogs groomed here once when I was too tight on time before a trip. It was a pleasant, normal grooming experience. The staff was very kind, and the dogs seemed as happy as any dog at a new groomer. I have another good pet store I could easily go to, but I keep going here. read more

This PetSmart used to be awesome until they changed management. Kris Nielsen is the worst manager I've ever met. He fires the hardest working and best employees for no reason. I worked here from September until February and then I came back here in April and quit in May because of his horrible management. Everything he has to say to his employees is negative and cruel. I was the 5th person here to quit due to his rude and mean behavior. He talked about me after I left (what he was saying wasn't nice) and he was saying these things to my twin sister who tried to stick it out. If PetSmart cared about its employees they would fire Kris Nielsen and Sarah Mancini. After I quit the other amazing manager Bill was forced to leave. He was told he better find another job or he would be fired. Kelcie Beale was the best department manager ever and she quit. Then my twin quit for more reasons than i can write, followed by almost the entire pet care department quit along with the stockers. Many of them left PetSmart and now work at Petco. I'm sure many people would love their jobs back we only left due to horrific management and always being treated bad. The newest person to be let go for absolutely no reason was Teri Billups. She was the nicest most outgoing cashier I ever met at Petsmart. She was very helpful and kind especially to the dogs that came in. Almost all the people who came in Petsmart knew her and she was given a measly and unfair review she worked there for 14 years and that's what she got in return. The management is so lazy they texted each other and all she got was a text via the other managers phone that she should go home. It makes me SICK that she was treated this way! She didn't deserve this none of the employees did. I do not recommend shopping here unless you like ruthless horrible managers. And I DEFINITELY advise anyone who wants to work here to STAY AWAY!! read more

If I could give 0 stars I would but that is not an option. I worked here for two months last August through October and saw so much abuse to workers and the animals in their care. I was told to "get on my damn hands and knees and scrub the floors" because I supposedly didn't clean a cage the way they wanted it to be done. The managers are rude to customers and workers. They made me force feed a snake which is extremely dangerous for the animal and could easily had a fatal outcome. The vets dont have any experience with small animals ( which is mostly what is sold there ) the animals come in sick all the time and because the vets dont know how to fix it they usually just result in euthanasizing the animals. The general manager is an absolute creep often made comments about me being a nice looking young girl and made comments about how I was so young. I was old enough to work there so idk why he had to make so many comments regarding my age. The pet care manager had a bad temper and would cuss you out for the littlest things.
