I will never give Lakewood PetSmart my business again, and I will actively discourage anyone with pets from shopping there. Based on my experience on July 8 and July 9, I cannot recommend this company to other pet owners. I scheduled grooming appointments for both of my dogs and the groomer arrived late. After the grooming was completed, my dogs were left locked in kennels for an additional hour after their service was completed instead of anyone calling to let me know they were ready. I only found out they had finished because I called the store to check on them. I gave very specific instructions for each dog's haircut, and none of those instructions were followed. The grooming did not resemble what I had requested for either dog. When I called to request a refund due to both the poor grooming and overall experience, I was transferred between multiple employees before finally speaking with the supervisor, Carol. From the moment she answered the phone, her tone was unprofessional and dismissive. She told me that I could receive a refund, but only if I returned to that specific store. I explained that I had traveled a significant distance to that location and would not be able to make another trip just to receive a refund. She responded that returning to the store was my only option if I wanted my money back. When I asked her to please refund the original payment method instead, she stated that she "didn't have time for this" and hung up on me. Later that day, I returned to the store to request my refund. Coincidentally, Carol was my cashier and I asked why she had hung up on me, and she claimed it was because I had been yelling. That simply isn't true. If PetSmart reviews its recorded phone calls, they will hear that I never raised my voice, used profanity, or behaved unprofessional in any way. The two employees I spoke with before being transferred to Carol can also confirm that. During our conversation in the store, I asked whether I could have received my refund at another PetSmart location. Carol responded, "Oh yeah, you can get it at any location." Had she not hung up on me earlier, that information would have saved me a long drive back to the original store. When I pointed that out, she simply shrugged her shoulders and motioned for me to move along while processing the refund. As she counted cash from the register, I asked if she could please refund the purchase to my original form of payment instead. She ignored my question entirely and continued counting the money without acknowledging me. Only after she finished did she look up and say that debit card purchases are refunded in cash because "it's on the receipt." The entire experience--from the late appointments, poor grooming, lack of communication, inaccurate information, and dismissive customer service--was unacceptable. I expected much better from a company this size that people trust with the care of their pets. Carol, do better you old hag. read more

We think the guy with the beard is pretty awesome he gave us lots of good tips for our tank, and we try and ask him questions each time we stop in, he is very knowledgeable. Their selection of fish is pretty good, their decorations too, but I wish they had more useful stuff in decorations, like just cave platforms and rocks would be great. read more

I'm incredibly disappointed and disheartened by the way PetSmart has handled the recent termination of our trainer, Zee. My miniature schnauzer, Circe, has been training with Zee since our very first beginner class. We've gone through beginner, intermediate, and are currently halfway through the advanced class--all under Zee's guidance. Her knowledge, patience, and dedication have made a lasting difference in Circe's training journey. Yesterday, I received a rushed, impersonal phone call informing me that Zee had been let go and that her classes were canceled effective immediately. I was told I could get a refund or switch to another trainer--but no explanation, no context, just a brush-off. This call came the day before our scheduled class. What makes this is that Zee wasn't the one to inform her clients, it was some rando on the phone that seemed annoyed to make these calls. From the discussions I have had with Zee in the past while trying to find days to make up for missed classes, I was fully aware that she had a full schedule, and openings were hard to come by. Based off of that knowledge, I feel like she should have at least been given the professional courtesy of finishing the classes she had committed to--despite clearly going above and beyond, working overtime and managing multiple classes simultaneously. This is not just poor communication--it's unethical. Firing a trainer mid-course, without transparency or consideration for the animals and clients involved, shows a complete disregard for the relationships we've built and the progress we've made. Zee is an incredible trainer, and the way she was treated was not only unjust, but deeply unprofessional. PetSmart, your trainers are the heart of your dog training program. If this is how you treat the ones who go above and beyond for their clients, I have serious concerns about continuing any services with your organization. I sincerely hope you take this feedback seriously and reflect on how you handle your staff and the customers who depend on them. Zee deserves better and so do her clients. So, not only will I never return to this location, I will also spread the word about the unethical practices this location has and will not be recommending anyone else to go here. They don't care about you, your trust, or your trust with your trainer, they only care about the money. read more

Kirby has been attending classes at PetSmart in Lakewood with Zee and recently graduated from the Advanced class (we took the Intermediate one with Zee as well). I can't type enough praise I have for her. She's such a talented pet trainer and is really in tune with every animal's body language and cues and will teach you to be just as in tune with your pet. She splits her time between every pet in the class perfectly, spending time on those who need extra help and giving extra work to those who's pets have got it down and can handle the extra challenge. We've been able to build on what we've learned in class at home and Kirby can now even turn off light switches and close doors on command! My only regret is not moving to Washington sooner so he could've had class with Zee for his puppy/beginner course. We just took in another dog (Sal) and immediately signed him up for Zee's next available beginner class to work on some behavioral concerns. Although we are in a group class, Zee had personalized homework for us to work on for his specific needs. Just from the first class, we've seen such an improvement in his confidence and obedience at home. The value of these group classes (I think $140 for 6 weeks of 1 hour classes) is unbeatable with such a great trainer. read more

I'm not sure if it's Courtney whom worked on my dog or a different PetSmart employee from their grooming department, that is messaging me but this just shows me how unprofessional they are. I still would not ever consider taking my dog here nor would I ever recommend their dog grooming services. I signed up for all 3 training classes at PetSmart with Zee for my dog Taco after a customer of mine was telling me about how wonderful she was and I am so happy I did she was right! Zee is AMAZING! She is great with the dogs and takes her time with any questions or concerns the pet parents have. She goes above and beyond. We are almost finished with our intermediate class and Taco is doing so good! Honestly I've never had a small dog before and at first didn't realize they could be trained because I've never seen one that was lol. Since starting her class I've had customers at work tell me how good and well behaved my dogs is, before he wouldn't listen at all and just do whatever he wanted. I am so grateful for Zee and how much she has helped us. I tell everyone I know with a dog to go and sign up for Zee's classes. read more

I went to have my dog groomed. I have been there many times. This time, in front of several other customers , I was told that I couldn't have my dog groomed until I paid first because I was accused of not paying the last time. I was shocked since I have ALWAYS paid. I went up front, got a copy of my receipt with the manager. We went back to the groomer and when he showed them my receipt, my groomer Alexis smirked and rolled her eyes. I ended up walking out. I was embarrassed by Alexis accusing me of literally stealing and the disrespect of the eye rolling was very immature and rude. Think twice before going here. This was a joke to those groomers. Not professional at all. I guess that's why Alexis is a groomer and I work as a professional in healthcare. read more

Highly disappointed in the grooming department. I've had an appointment scheduled for a week and brought my dog in numerous times to get acquainted. The day of, an hour and a half into my dog's appointment, they said they were done. His nails are barely clipped, and not clipped right, he still has eyeboogers and loose hair. My very large longhaired cat had developed a lot of mats, and his fur was out of control. Everyone in the grooming office were very helpful and friendly. Chris did a very good job, first taking the time to get to know him to help him not be so anxious, then the haircut was awesome!! She got out all of the mats and gave him a wonderful short haircut! OK so we went to Petco looking for Rachel Ray Dog food. After looking for like 10 minutes we asked one of the workers "Do you have Rachel Ray dog Food"? I want to start off by saying that most of the groomers the manager in particular are awesome. This is only a review regarding Maggie. I normally wouldn't want to call someone out but I am that upset. If I could leave 0 stars I would. I have been taking my long coated dogs there for years with no issue. Maggie was instructed explicitly to not cut off my dogs hair on her head/face. Instead of calling she shaved her face. It was bad enough that the whole body had to be shaved (which we didn't want either) but I know she had mats at the base of her fur, so that was at least understandable. I believe 100% that it was pure laziness that resulted in my dog being completely shaved because I have never had someone get done as fast as her either. Furious! All other groomers there would have called if they had to do something I didn't initially want. read more

I'm going to add a star for the adoption services here. We worked with two young men when adopting our kitten, and they were both very kind and helpful! Thankfully, they took us back to meet a few different kittens before we chose who belonged with us -- they let us take our time meeting all the little friends, and they were gentle with all of the cats. Both seemed to be genuine animal people. If you do adopt here, know that you get a coupon book that allows you to get a free small bag of kitten/cat food and save on multiple different pet supplies, ranging from bowls to litter to toys. There is an option to see Banfield pet hospital for free with this coupon book, but I highly recommend doing some research on the clinic before you use your coupon. We opted to take our kitten to DuPont Veterinary Clinic instead, where we know without a doubt he'll be taken care of. Our kitten did have some tummy worms and fleas, but I don't blame this on Petco or the adoption center he came from. It's pretty normal, at least in my husband's experience, to adopt kittens with these particular health concerns. I'll also add that all the staff present on the day we adopted our kitten were NORMAL, unlike the drugged out lady we met who I mentioned in my first review. read more

I scheduled my pups return appt., clicked the box that I'd bring my documents from our veterinarian about pups latest rabies shot. Morning of appt., I E-checked in got there 10 min early had the Vets Rabies paperwork with me and the lil steel tag the vet gives you as well. The girl checking me stated the paperwork did not have the Rabies expiration date on it, and she proceeded to call my vet, who was closed, it was a Sun. Anyway I say the paperwork is dated, and the paperwork also states it is a 3 year Rabies vaccine and could she not take the date of appt/shot and add 3 years and enter that as exp date? She ignored me, and said without the expiration date of Rabies vaccine, my dog could not be seen, I would need to reschedule? WTH... You take the date of the shot, add 3 years to it, whola there's your date? Lost customer for good here, online it just says to bring Paperwork I did, an itemized, very clearly dated, legible Veterinary statement... stating my pup had gotten a 3 year Rabies vaccination, so common sense, add 3 years to the appt date and there's the Rabies expiration date. I scheduled an appointment with Makayla who has groomed my toy poodle before. The morning of Jessica called and said the original groomer called out and if I wanted her groomed that day I would have to come in at a certain time. We were able to get the time worked out as I and my poodle were leaving for vacation the next morning. She could squeeze us in she said(even though I already had an appointment scheduled). I picked up my poodle a minute after closing. I paid $118 for the grooming. But she was shaved down completely bald. My mom (who dropped her off) said it was explained that she was a bit matted (due to wearing a medical vest for two weeks) and that they'd charge for dematting. In reality they just shaved her completely bald the day before vacay without telling us she needed to be shaved. Jessica did the grooming. Her white colored chin still had the yellow food on it from before, as evidenced by the baby wipe I had to use to clean it. The next day I went in with my mother. Told the story to a very nice manager. He has a long beard, not sure of his name. We expressed concern about her potential to now sunburn. He offered to comp a shirt but he only had boy shirts. He said we would expect a call soon. Two weeks later Carole called. Did not take accountability and blamed it all on a form that was signed. The form was presented in a manner that allowed them to groom and that went over the estimate due to the dematting. We brought up the fact that her chin still had food on it. There was pretty much silence. Only that she saved us money but ONLY charging $118 to shave down a 6 pound poodle and NOT bathe her. If it weren't for her food being sold there and the other kind manager, I would probably never return. I am not a complainer. Hence why this is my first review. I will NEVER bring my dog here again. Carole didn't offer any amount of refund, a free grooming, hardly an apology for the misunderstanding. I had to wash her after grooming, she was embarrassed, and scooting our whole trip. If they did not have time to fit her in because the original groomer called out, they should have left her alone! Not rush through it! read more

I just wanted to buy a fish for my apartment. I read online, that fish were fairly easy and cheap to own. I was happily walking through the fish alley, with a bowl in my hand, looking at the bettas. This is when the fish lady ruined my whole night. I think her name was Carli or something I don't know, I'm going to call her the fish lady. She confronts me and my friends and tries to tell me all I need to know about betta fish. At first I was pleased she was willing to help, since this fish would've been my new roommate in my apartment. And I don't only knew what I read online. The fish lady then goes into great detail about how I shouldn't buy a bowl, I need a tank. How I need a filter, and to buy this expensive water cleaner. I need a pump to clean my tank every other day. She kept adding on everything I needed. In the past, my friends who owned bettas never needed all of this. It was getting very expensive and she was very aggressive. It turned me off the ideas of fish like that. I just wanted a simple fish, looking to spend maybe $20 max. But after the fish lady lectured me about fish, for 20 minutes, I was looking at $50-$75 for just one fish. No thanks! Let's just say I didn't buy a fish tonight or will probably ever buy a fish here. Also to add on, while she was lecturing me another customer walked by and started to listen in, without a heartbeat, fish lady jumps down their throats about buying the wrong tank. If I could give it less than 1 star I would. My family recently got a puppy, he is a Yorkie/Lhasa mix. I have only had Pugs and a English Bulldog, so I'm not familiar with dogs that need cuts. After leaving my vet, to get Wilson's 3rd set of shots I stopped here the next day. At the vets office I learned that Wilson had been scratching his ears because he needs the ear hair removed. While getting dog food I stopped to inquire about the ear hair removal method. I spoke with Jana, who talked herself up. I explained that Wilson is my first dog that requires haircutting, that he was just over 3 months old and had had his 3rd puppy shot the day before, and that he didnt get a rabies shot at that time, due to his size the vet wanted to space out his shots so he was scheduled for his rabies in 2 weeks. She put me down by saying that I should have had him in by 8 weeks to start grooming, but I said he hadn't had all his shots yet and she told me that was okay. So i scheduled him for the next day with her. She said since he is a puppy it would cost $17.99. She scheduled us for 2pm. The day of the appointment I called to see if i could drop Wilson off at 12:30pm on my lunch break, they said that would be fine. I take Wilson in, and Jana comes up to us and asked for the rabies paperwork, I told her I explained the night before that he hadn't had it yet, so we had to reschedule the appointment to 2 days after his rabies shot, so 2 weeks later. I take Wilson in for the rescheduled appointment on my lunch break again around 12:30ish, his appointment was at 1:45 this time. The girl turns to Jana who is working on another dog and says "this is your 1:45", Jana very rudely says "its a little early isn't it?" To which the girl replies, "it's better than them being late..." So I'm pissed, and not sure I should be leaving my puppy with this lady, is she going to take it out on him for me bringing him early, when I asked 2 weeks prior if this was ok? Jana comes to the counter, and discusses with me what to do with Wilson, I again remind her I have no idea what to do, but I told her we like him "fluffy", I didn't know how else to explain that we don't want him to have short hair. She hands me a receipt to sign saying its going to be $45, what changed in 2 weeks? But I had to get back to work, so i didn't argue. While at work I called, not saying who I was just inquiring the difference between the puppy groom and the dog groom, the lady on the phone said just the age, if the puppy is under 5 months old it would be $17.99. I pick Wilson up after work, I do not get to see him prior at all. Jana tells me how difficult he was, and he wasn't still on the table at all. I ask her what changed in 2 weeks if we were rescheduling the same appointment? She said because I wanted him cut, I told her I wanted his face cut, but i wanted him "fluffy". Again, I don't feel like arguing so I take the receipt and go pay. I walk back to finally see Wilson and he doesn't look like the same puppy at all, and much to my dismay he wasn't one bit "fluffy", plus his eyes had goopy stuff in them and running out (shouldn't that have been cleaned? You are able to see it in the after picture I posted). I went home, and Wilson just acted different and didn't look the same. I sent pictures to my boyfriend, who was just as displeased with the haircut. I also looked him over and he still had ear hairs, which was the reason I stopped there in the first place, I had told her he had been itching his ears, and the vet had looked at them he didnt have an infection he just needed the hair pulled AND it WASN'T pulled. So I went back there, about an hour later with Wilson. I spoke with a store manager, who said I'd have to talk to the salon Manager, so i left my name and number. This was on Friday, May 8th, I called back on the following Tuesday because I hadn't received a called yet, I was told the salon manager was on vacation, well that would have been nice to know being that I'm waiting for her to call me. As of today, Thursday May 21, still no call. So I call again, I'm transferred to a store manager. I explain that I've talked to a store manager and I was told I need to talk with the salon manager. I don't say my name or much of my issue and he replies, "she was supposed to call you a few days ago" yet he had to take my name and number again.... So here I am, this places lack of customer service is pathetic. I also discovered on my own why my appointment almost tripled in price....because the groomers receive 50% commission, which isn't much on a $17.99 puppy groom. Unlucky for you guys, I have a really big mouth and I will let everyone I know know how unprofessional, uncustomer service oriented, and rude your grooming salon is. And unlucky for us, we have to wait for our Wilson to be "fluffy" again. read more

I had just moved from southern Cali, and my dog had been expertly groomed at PetSmart there. My little honey is a ShihTsu mix. She loved her groomer, and upon entering PetSmart, always gets uber-excited! Then, disaster strikes! My only short-coming was not getting THE NAME of the unprofessional, rude, condescending 'SUPERVISOR' who came to assist the woman (untrained) to give me information about making an appointment. They acted like the didn't want to groom my dog. Every negative thing you could imagine was said...'Oh. Your dog is matted. That will be extra..oh. your dog is hyper, we will need to charge you for two groomers (she weighs 7 pounds) and they would not groom her without current vaccine report-NOT HANDWRITTEN! I responded that I brush her daily. I keep her long and she's NOT HYPER. SHE'S EXCITED because she loves her groomer at PetSmart in Oceanside, CA. OH. WHAT? YOU ARE A REGULAR CUSTOMER? Checking the computer, she says, "Well, your dog hasn't been groomed since October. That's true. The day before Halloween and it was December 3rd. I walked in and the place was filthy and I thought, "They must have had a busy day or something." After they called me back there, they lady handed me my dog and told me he was a drama queen. I looked at his little claws and they were bleeding. I decided to never bring my pup back to this location. I took him to the one I usually go to, and they said the Lakewood location has put a negative comment in his online file, stating that he was aggressive. I've been going to PetSmart for a year and a half but not anymore. My dog has never had fleas...ever...until her first session in Lakewood. They did a good job grooming, but my dog came home with not only fleas but also a cough. The grooming was $48 but the vet bill and medications came to $182.
