Been coming to this location for years, but recently used their dog training services. The trainer (Linda) was excellent: she was very knowledgeable, and provided us with the exact tools/knowledge we needed to train our new pup. You can tell how much she loves dogs. If this review were just about her, it would've been an easy 5/5. But she is an outlier among a staff that sometimes can be very indifferent towards its customers. Sometimes I feel like they don't want us to be there. Their products can be a little pricey, but I guess I can't complain much because it's a convenient location. read more

Had the Hubby and Mini-Me bring me here today so I could buy Christmas Gifts for my fur babies- so today it was bouncy balls that don't get stuck under the furniture, big 6-knot ropes to play tug of war with and some nice chew sticks and for the kitties catnip, new bells, catnip mice, crinkle noise makers to play with and new cardboard scratching posts, they love those things! They must have known where I had gone because the minute I came in Kona Kahleesi and Bella Luna were sitting with such pent up excitement they were literally shaking, LOL--- I just threw the toys and they went nuts it was such a sight to see they both loved their toys and gave lots of kisses, I guess they missed me. As for the cats- ya know cats- they acted cool calm-uppity-snobby- "Like What-Ev's "Oh, look the Hooman is home and has brought us tokens of affections and worship..." but the minute I walked away they went full "Animal House"... They are now passed out in catnip coma's. PetSmart never fails to have just what I need to be a good mommy to my fur babies... and if they don't have what I need it in the store, I can usually order it online. This review is about the Petsmart Howell grooming salon. We all know most dogs don't like getting groomed! Brie falls into the "most" category and although she is normally very sweet, she brings out her sassy attitude when she goes to the groomer. Luckily, Petsmart in Howell has wonderful groomers that can deal with her spunkiness, and also make her look super cute. Brie is a morkie-poo (maltese, yorkie, and toy poodle), so she has hair instead of fur and needs grooming every 6-8 weeks. Her hair requires a lot of maintenance and although as her parents we do the best we can, we tend to let her overgrow and become messy, knotty, and sometimes matted! Whenever we drop Brie off at Petsmart Howell, we always apologize for our neglect and the groomers are always so cool about it. They know it takes a lot of work to keep these hairy pups in perfect shape. Brie has been going to Petsmart Howell for 2 years now (since she was a puppy) and has always been treated so well. You can tell the groomers really love what they do and they love Brie! This time around, Melissa, the salon manager, was lucky enough to groom Brie. Brie needed a lot of clean-up on her face and sanitary areas. She came out looking so beautiful and smelling so great (we tried the Hemp shampoo this time around). We happened to see all the groomers in action with their doggie clients and each one was treated with such care. It's always a great experience. We enrolled Snoopy for the 6 week puppy training classes after being referred by my coworker to specifically see the dog trainer Linda. She is smart and patient, and clearly loves all dogs. I was able to teach Snoopy even more tricks after his graduation, and I have to give some credit to Linda's tips. I was skeptical to bring my dog to a new groomer, the original one is usually Anthony ( great groomer), however Deena from Howell, New Jersey burned my dogs stomach. She handed my dog to me without a word , like if I'm some dumb fool. The burn has gotten worse and maybe be infected. My dog has been very irritable. I hope for her sake my dog will heal quickly or we are going to ha w a big problem Stay away. Doesn't even deserve a star!!! read more

Mylo has been getting groomed at Petsmart for almost two years - when we rescued him. We weren't thrilled with the turnover & lack of training (so it seemed...) but there was a young lady named Sarah who took a liking to him and vice versa- however she either transferred to a different store or left altogether so we took an extended break. We decided to give it a go one more time and we dealt directly with the supervisor of the grooming section of Petsmart- Melissa. She was able to take care of Mylo herself despite the fact that there was some sort of glitch in the computer system that allowed me to book with someone not even available that particular day. She was wonderful and we were beyond satisfied. We hope this means that Petsmart Grooming in Howell is taking a turn towards delivering consistant excellent and reliable service. This is a great PetSmart, and it's a shame I don't live nearby, because this is the best PetSmart I've ever been to. The store is much smaller, whiu which made it easier for me to find everything They divided one section for the cats, and another for the dogs, making this an easy way to find which section I needed to go. We've been getting our shih Tzu groomed here for a while and we've continuously asked them to check his ears. They never did. Every single time they didn't check his ears when we asked them to. My dog is just now getting over an ear infection CAUSED by the amount of hair in his ears that we paid to get checked out. Took him somewhere else and they managed to do his ears just fine. Never taking my dog here again and now we have $300 in medical bills to pay for his ears that should've been handled when we asked. read more

This is by far the worst place to get a dog groomed! I took my puppy there to get washed, dried, cut, and anal glands done; they did the worst cut! They didn't cut on certain parts of my dogs fur, which left it uneven, and on top of that, by his face it was uneven and crookedly cut, I had to go home and trim it myself. They didn't even do his anal glands( he had a vet appointment 4 days later and they said it wasn't done, so they did it for me). As I washed him the following week, I tried to comb his fur and notice that they never combed by his ear( where I told them he had some matted parts) , and the matted parts were still there. I will never use this place and I do not recommend it to anyone!! By the way, I have a bichonpoo, and he is the friendliest dog and loves people! So the type of dog is small and friendly. read more

The groomers refused to groom my 13 year old dog who is a SWEETHEART because he couldn't stand for more than 10 minutes at a time. They could have used a stool or a harness, but instead they started shaving him, decided they couldn't do it and called my father to come get him. This is absolutely ridiculous. I will NEVER be going into that PetSmart again. Shame on them. read more

They have some of the nicest people working at this location. When my boyfriend and I come in with my dog, they always make us feel so welcome and make my dog feel special by always offering treats at the register when he comes in. The staff also seems to be very knowledgeable and have always been able to answer any questions we had, whether it was about fish and aquarium supplies or the birds and how trained they are. It also seems like a great environment because all of the employees are friendly and kind to everyone coming in the door and to each other. There is literally nothing that I can complain about. TO ANYONE WHO IS CONSIDERING GETTING THEIR DOG GROOMED AT PETSMART IN HOWELL NJ.... HERE IS MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE WITH MY 2 DOGS... I don't usually air my business grievances in public, but here is my story... I tool Bella and Bodhi to be groomed at Petsmart. They have been there before a couple of times. At first, they did a good job, but then the service just wasn't up to par and I stopped going there. After the holidays, I was tired, so instead of grooming them myself, and made an appointment to have it done at Pestmart on the recommendation of someone who said that they had changed grooming staff and it was now MUCH better. Well.... I have a few issues... 1) Bodhi is very fearful and I specifically told the groomer that I did not want him hanging around and that I had no problem making a special trip back to get him as soon as he was done. I did not want him locked in a cage all day. Result: They groomed Bella first, who takes twice as long, and left Bodhi in the cage all day. 2) For $250 (with tip), although I did not request a big clip job (these are Great Pyrenees) one would expect some basic paw fur trimming and removal of any fur that really sticks out and looks unkempt, you know, neatened up a bit... This is what all other groomers had done in the past... for less money. Result: Both dogs have big feathers between their toes, paw pads not trimmed ( although I was told that they were over the phone), and Bells looks like a Yeti. 3) Not sure what was going on, but we almost ended up taking Bodhi to the vet as he was "scooting" around after the service and was basically fearful for about 4 days. This had never happened before. 4) Bella now has a huge hotspot that I am treating, which is causing her discomfort and me stress. I had noticed that there was a lot of residue, like un-rinsed soap, in her fur under the collar when we got home. 5) I called Petsmart and asked to speak to a manager. I was told that I was speaking to a manager, but then after the conversation the woman said that she would " Have to speak to a manager" about it and would return my call the next day....a week later, No return cal... so I called them! 6) When I went to pick up the dogs, they were (understandably) excited, and I was trying to get over 200 lbs of dog out of the store with as little commotion as possible. I asked the girl, the very same one who was there when I dropped them off, if she'd done the dogs (for tipping purposes). She said no, she hadn't, another woman had. I asked if she were around, the woman said no, she was gone for the day. So I asked if she could take the tip and give it to her. SO, she actually denied having done the dogs, only to find out from the "manager" later on the phone that the "other woman", who had supposedly "left for the day", was never even there and that the girl I had had the conversation about the tip with HAD done both dogs! Red Flag? You Bet! So, I have no idea what went on there, and maybe they are fine with small dogs, but NOT with big dogs... even well behaved ones...but I am NOT pleased with the service, Will not be EVER going back to Petsmart, and DO NOT recommend them to others! read more

Nearly every time I visit this store the employees are busy talking to each other either in the office or out in the aisles. The office is right next to the cash registers but employees just chat away with no concern. I've switched to Chewy.com and only come here when I have no other choice. The manager should be held responsible for allowing customers to be treated this way. read more
