She provides an environment where the pet and family member can learn and carryover the information that is taught with ease. Her upbeat attitude and ease with dogs and their families makes class something to look forward. The handouts and homework Tonya provides makes learning and follow-through easy and fun! We enjoyed our experience so much that we are signing up for another class. I highly recommend Toledo Dog Training as a great place to deepen your bond with your pet and everything you need to know to have a happy, well mannered dog.

I asked for references first. Tonya told me she would have a former client contact me, but it never happened. I had to follow up to ask about it and the response was, "Oh, I thought they called you" and nothing else was done. Despite not getting the references requested, I went ahead and booked an initial consultation. We had some back and forth on dates but when we finally got things settled, she sent me an email to pay for the training session in advance. The invoice was sent to me on the Friday before Christmas. I was out of town for my family Christmas so I was not checking emails over that weekend. I got an email the following Monday (3 days later!) that she gave my timeslot away and I would have to book another one. She did this without so much as a phone call to tell me that she needed payment immediately to hold the spot. When questioned on why she did this, she told me she thought I was on the fence because we were having trouble getting the dates set for our follow up appointment that would occur 2-3 weeks after the initial consultation. I'm not sure how the dates of the second appointment had any impact on the first that she arbitrarily gave away. I can't speak to how this person is as a dog trainer but her business practices obviously leave a lot to be desired. I understand that she has a business to run but I think a person that really cared about helping a dog and owners in need would at least have had the courtesy to follow up with a phone call before cancelling our spot. Cancelling after only 3 days without payment for a service that had yet to occur and not following up is very unreasonable. Her actions show that she cares more about money than she does about helping. If you want a trainer that really demonstrates that they care about you and your dog, I highly recommend you go elsewhere. Tonya's business profiles states she is "committed to helping you, the dog owner"...you can decide if her actions with me demonstrate that in any way. She did tell me that she would be willing to schedule an appointment at another time but I think I can do much better for my dog. In this case, I believe her actions speak much louder than words....

Toledo Kennel Club is an organization for dog enthusiasts that live near the Toledo area…read more They define themselves as "a not-for-profit organization of dog owners, breeders, performance enthusiasts and show exhibitors dedicated to the welfare and advancement of purebred dogs." They offer training classes, health clinics and so much more but they are most known for hosting dog shows- Which is exactly what we looked them up for. So on June 2nd, we drive 2.5 hrs to attended our first dog show (as a spectator) which was hosted by the Toledo Kennel Club. We found the venue to be very well organized. The parking was easy to find and only cost 6 dollars. (We were expecting it to be more, so we were quite happy). Actually parking the car was even easier. Lots of spots that were easy to find. We quickly found the information booth. It was located in a centralized location with easy to spot signage. Customer service there was excellent. They helped us find the ring we needed to get to so that we could see the dog that we came to support strut his stuff! (Yay, Toledo's own, Comet the Shih Tzu!) We got to meet many of the competitors and they all were so welcoming. They had everything there from confirmation, agility, dive, and I think they even had something called fast cat(?), where a dog is timed for chasing this fuzzy thing , plus lots of little shops. We went thinking we would stay a few hours and we left at the very end if the day. We found it to be a very fun and well run show. Thank you Toledo Kennel club! If you're interested in dogs... or dog events, or even beginning to look to own a dog....they will have lots of information for you. I am in the middle of my experience with Glass City K9. Maybe I should wait until the process is…read morefinished, but I've seen so much growth in both my pup AND myself so far that I feel compelled to comment right now. I did not choose a board and train because it was *kind of* out of my budget and I didn't think it was necessary; it would have been easier and I *could* have made it happen, but I chose not to. I chose the "silver plan." Essentially, the trainers train us, the owners, to train our own dogs. We are paying for them to pass on their expertise. Keep in mind that if, as an owner, one does not FOLLOW THROUGH with the plan as given by the trainers, the results will not be optimal. I am, by profession, a teacher. So when I am told to specifically follow a lesson plan with my dog every week, I follow the plan. Religiously. I have a husky. I'm told they don't like to listen. When I adopted her (rescue), she was pulling me so hard on the leash that I was falling over onto the pavement. She cause me to wreck a perfectly good pair of Silver jeans, and she tore my belly button piercing (it never healed... it hurt a LOT... I finally gave up and took it out). I was not a happy dog mom. I tried positive "treat training" and she learned every command quickly but would only comply if offered a treat. Well, by week three with GCK9, my girl was stopping at street intersections without being prompted. Why? Because I trained her to do so because I didn't want her to get smoked by a car. This wasn't even part of GCK9's lesson plans; I kinda just added it in because it naturally followed with what I was being told to train her to do. I LISTENED TO WHAT THE TRAINER SAID AND I DID EXACTLY THAT, then when it all worked and my girl was so proficient she was getting bored, I did some add ons. Folks, know this: YOU WILL GET OUT OF THIS PROGRAM NOT WHAT YOU PAID INTO IT, BUT WHAT YOU PUT INTO IT. As for the e-collar... if you're that worried about it, Google "shock collar vs e-collar" and start there. I can put my girl's e-collar in my hand at the level at which I typically train her (which is super low) and I can tell you this: My physical therapist has turned up the tens machine on me WAY higher than I've probably ever turned up the e-collar on my pup, and I wasn't wearing a double coat to buffer it... and I've never been hurt by a tens machine. At the current stage, I only need to actually use her e-collar about 50% of the time. She just knows what she is supposed to do, and she does it. At the end of the day, folks, so far I have to say that I believe that I have gotten more value out of this training than my pup has. Here is why: In a world where I have had to stop paying attention to the news because I feel as if everything has spun into such utter chaos that it has caused me to up my meds and increase the number of mental health therapy sessions I have every month (depression and generalized anxiety disorder), training my beautiful dog has given me a sense of purpose and made me feel as if there is something among the chaos that I can actually control. I now wish that I'd have trained a dog before I'd had human children, because it would have made me a more patient, loving, and firm disciplinarian. My 9-year-old son is benefitting because he is following my lead and also taking responsibility for our dog's training, which is teaching HIM to be a better human being. If you do it right, your dog won't be the only one to change in a positive way; YOU will as well. I promise you that if you approach Glass City K9 with the right intention, attitude, and work ethic, you will have zero regrets.
