We took our 7-year-old Border Collie, Jack, to the PetSmart in Grand Junction for a bath and haircut--and they completely shaved him. Anyone with even basic grooming knowledge should know that shaving a double-coated breed like a Border Collie is harmful. Their coat protects them from heat, cold, and sun; once shaved, it may never grow back properly. This was not a small mistake--it was a clear sign of negligence and lack of training. Jack's coat may take months or even a full year to regrow, and it may never return to its original condition. The health and comfort of our dog were put at risk for no valid reason. We are demanding a full refund, a formal apology, and a clear explanation of how PetSmart will prevent this from happening to other pets. DON'T USE THIS STORE!!!!! Brought our nine year old Miniature Schnauzer here for grooming, teeth brush and wash, gave them specific instructions on the dog's beard, skirt, eyebrows, length and tooth brushing. Never saw the "hack" groomer, as she was hiding out and wouldn't address us. The beard was shaved down, cut his ear, one ear done, the other trimmed long? Teeth were obviously not cleaned, His entire body was shaved and they claimed it was "matting". This was BS, as we brush him daily, not true. The tail wasn't shaved/trimmed at all. Worst experience of all by Rachel? Seriously, a 10 year old could've done better. I'd like a full refund of $62.00, as they should pay me for this embarassment. Shame on them. I have used Tina in the grooming salon for many years. She does an outstanding job. After my beloved Airedale Terrier died, I adopted a rescue dog. Tina and her co-workers have been so kind to this scared animal. I am so thankful. Kindness is a great employee attribute! This is actually the worst shopping experience I've had in my entire life (and I went two different times) and the both sucked. My roommate and I were looking to get new fish and frogs for our aquarium and the fish sales person were the rudest and most miserable human being I've ever met. She looked and acted so pissed off that we were there looking at the fish/frogs. When we talked to her about where the frogs food would be located in the store she told us "I have no clue." And the proceeded to walk away back into the break room area and not help us look for it. Also we are lucky enough to have gotten her name which is Cailyn. Thought i would still call to see if they could check for an item that would be easily found and was told can not check in stock and before i could ask another question was hung up on. I know the staff could check on stock with their phone if they wanted to, also can not check stock only started when covid started so what is the issue now. no excuse for hanging up on a customer? I am concerned about my dog's grooming today. First, there was no one out front when we arrived. Then when a man came out, he could not check my dog in. When someone, a young girl did come out after a 10min wait, she took my dog in the back, after telling me it would be 2 to 3 hours. Thats the usual time, but not with the same groomer. This was the fourth groomer assigned to Buddy, and supposibly she was too busy to come out front to meet my dog and me. I left feeling a little uneasy. Then after 5 hours, I finally called them to see where Buddy was. The girl who answered the phone hesitsted, then said oh they're still working on him. She said they would call. So about 20 minutes later they did. I went immediately to get Buddy. As usual, I was given the bill to pay before I saw Buddy. After that, the same girl, NOT the groomer had Buddy's collar and leash on and let him out the inside door. I did not say anything to the girl at the time but I thought, Buddy is acting strange !! He had a strange manner about him and didn't seem to recognize me. I picked him up, placed him in the car and drove home. When I went to get him out of the car, he cowered away from me. He walked into the house, drank some water and immediately jumped up on the couch, laid down and went to sleep. When I called to him, he raised his head, looked at me with no recognition and laid his head back down. He is still lethargic and not himself. He has NEVER acted like this on any other grooming visit. My vet is closed, but if Buddy is still acting this way in an hour or two I will take him for an emergency visit, and PetSmart will pay for it !! In May 2022 we made a grooming appointment for our Toy Poodle for July 6, 3022. We travel full time and knew we would be in the area then. And by in the area, I mean only a 1.5 hour drive away. Our poodle has only been groomed at Petsmart groomers because they have his records and require Express service due to his heart murmur. The Sunday before his appt we received a text confirming the appointment. When we made the appointment in May, we explained that he had a vet appointment at the attached Banfield at noon. They assured us then that they could get him done within the required time. So on July 6 we showed up to his appointment 30 min early only to be told that they could not take him and to the agreed Express. That it would take 4 hours! This is the first time we've ever had a problem with Petsmart grooming. On top of everything, the technician then lied to us to and she had tried to call. We have no record of a call, but we do have a text confirming our appointment. This is a terrible way to run a business. Stay away from this groomer. They over book themselves and then lie about it. read more

I'm here twice a month stocking up on Blue Buffalo for my labs, more often recently due to my female being prego. Store is OK, I know where stuff is, so its a quick in and out. Mostly just look at the dog stuff, as that's what we have, and the selection is good. Not so sure if you have other animals, although we've gotten things out of the bird aisle (steptic powder for one of our chickens) and the reptile aisle (thermometer/humidity guage for our incubator). Employees are mostly helpful. Haven't used the grooming services for a few years, so not sure about that, but it used to be good (maybe 2-3 years ago). read more

We have always been able to find what we need for our pets and gotten knowledgeable help from employees. I was appalled with what we witnessed during our recent trip. While in line to pay for our purchase, we were told to go to the next cashier. A young lady who has pink hair was reprimanding another employee about not taking out the trash. She repeatedly continued with the same "song" while she sat on the counter. I'm assuming she was a supervisor, however she was not wearing a badge. As a supervisor, she should have taken the other employee aside and expressed her concerns, and NOT in front of the general public. Very distasteful! We felt so terrible for the other young lady. Your "Pink Lady" needs to be dealt with about job ethics. read more

I had a good friend and their spouse go to this store, the people do not know one thing about their job, they ask them if they had any whelping pens, three people were asks, not one person knew what it even was, I on the other hand have been trying to get a job there for over a year, I got 35 years of experience working with animals of all kinds never even called me for a interview, so I called them and ask why they still have a sign up asking for help for a year now, and never call me for at least an interview, I was told that the help sign is for store, are for all over the USA, and that they usually only hire high school or college kids, you know someone thats temporary, knows nothing, and will leave in 3 months to return to school, to put in their time for money, not caring at all if they do a good job, the manager tells me all this, I put in three times for this job, the last time they sent me a note saying I was not qualified at this time, OMG what is this world coming to that businesses do not even care about who they hire and if they really care or know what they are doing, I was also told that th two people that waited on them were not kids they were in there 40 or older knew nothing. read more

I am going to keep this short and to the point! I was in this store to purchase some parrot supplies on a Sun Morning with my 9 yr old daughter! We were both memorized by the two big Poodles being groomed just through the looking glass! We saw this majestic Brown or tan looking poodle getting groomed by a lady with red hair, he was a bit spooked when the clippers cut a little close to the groin, he flinched and was corrected by the lady with a hard grab to his testicles, he then flinched a bit more and was swiftly corrected with an elbow to his face!!!! I was furious!!!! I could NOT believe what we saw. I will NEVER take any of my dogs to this place EVER... I plead with any of you who love your dog, that you think twice about it! The kicker for me... I called the manager right away. I spoke with a Jennifer, she basically called me a liar and said the tech did not do such!! Dropped my miniature schnauzer here for grooming a while back and received a call saying she had "been found with a flea" on her (yeah right , we live at a much higher elevation than Grand Junction and don't have fleas here, I KNOW my dog did NOT have any fleas on her when I dropped her off) I was then told I was going to be charged for a flea dip, I said no I didn't want that because my dog didn't have fleas when I dropped her off, they said "then come get your dog" didn't even finish her groom but charged me for it anyway. When I got there to get her the groomer showed me 1 dead flea stuck to a piece of tape and said "it came off my dog", which seemed highly suspicious!! 1 flea??? Everybody knows your dog isn't going to have 1 flea on it if it has fleas!!! They are scammers in there at the Grand Junction, CO store! Super unprofessional in there, especially the manager! The "manager" Sheri' (if that's what she really is), doesn't care in the slightest about losing business! I wonder what corporate thinks about that? My husband and I went in just to look and fell in love with one of the snakes. The lady who helped us was very nice (and seemed like she knew a lot about the snake) but come to find out they had just gotten the snake the day before. Didn't know how old the sex and she told us the snake ate frozen pinkies and that it just had ate and ate them quickly. So my husband and I bought the snake and food 570 dollars later drive all the way back home tried to feed the snake a week later only to find it wouldn't eat the frozen mice which means it probably didn't eat when she said it did. Long story short no one knew anything about the snake and just made everything up. We are not happy and won't be returning read more

I took my cocker spaniel to get groomed twice at PetSmart. The first time they did a great job and clipped her just like I asked. The second time I asked for the same clip job and she came out practically bald (this was in the winter so I had to buy her multiple outfits so she wouldn't freeze). Which of course cost me 40.00 more for the coats. The groomer said it was to hard to clip her the way I wanted it. I will never take her back to be groomed at PetSmart. read more

My daughter bought a chinchilla from this store, in 58 days, it had perished. The normal lifespan of this animal is 10 to 15 years, when speaking with their management, they blamed my daughter for the death of the animal, saying it must've been something she did. I was told this animal was vet certified when it was sold to me, but when I asked to see that documentation I was told they don't keep records locally. Just do the right thing Petsmart, don't hide behind your 14 day guarantee, shame on you. I will never spend another dime with this company as long as I live.
