Everytime I go to this particular store there are long lines waiting. It's always the same women who is working every customer on the line by herself almost everyday. Not sure why you run a store and register with one cashier who also puts away stock, helps customers in other departments meanwhile your customer are standing there. Really can't hire help? Let me start off by saying we always give people or companies a chance regarding services or goods. My boyfriend and I are very forthcoming on this. This review is based on a first time grooming experience with the petsmart store number: 2144 in east Brunswick New Jersey. My boyfriend has a yorkie dog. The most handsome boy ever! He usually brings our little fur boy to a private groomer. This has been the normal since he was a puppy. This dog is rather used to his grooms. Unfortunately our usual groomer could not see him until a much later date. This wasn't great is he was quite bushy and long haired. My boyfriend's sister takes her very large goldendoodle dog to petsmart for his grooms. Not sure of the location that she goes to. However she has always had pleasant experiences with her furboy's grooms. As my boyfriend was in a bind with our little one, he decided to try out the petsmart grooming services. He figured his sister always has great experiences, so why should it be any different if he brings our dog to pet smart for the grooming services. It all goes downhill from here however... My boyfriend had scheduled his groom appointment for 10am. The person scheduling was polite and friendly. Ok very good. Now comes the day of the appointment. He understood that the appointment was for 10am. He did get there half hour early. He said he would see if they could take him if they had no other animals that they were working on. He went in with our dog. Employee told him it was ok. All right not bad so far! He decided to stay close by and wait for the phone call to pick him up. We know typically a groom is 45 mins to an hour depending. My boyfriend was confident, as the employee did not state or mention any current animals that they were working in or how many were ahead of our dog. Ok, he waits, and he waits, and he waits some more. Now we're coming up to almost 11:20 am. More than enough time has elapsed. Since there was no mention of any other animals or how many ahead, our dog should have been completed with his groom appointment, right? However there was no phone call, no update, no nothing! Concerned at this point, my boyfriend goes inside to find out if everything is ok with our dog. To his surprise, the employee stated that there were 3 dogs ahead of him that morning. That there were only two groomers working at the time. Um, okay...why then was this not mentioned in the beginning of the appointment?! Why was this important tidbit of info left out for? On top of that, our dog was obviously still not completely done. Why weren't they forthcoming and honest from the start? Annoying! Moreover so, because my boyfriend works overnight shifts! He thought this groom would have been done professionally and punctually as our usual groomer completes it. Not the case. He is besides himself at this point. Frustrated, exhausted, and aggravated that nobody was truthful. More time has elapsed at this point. This is absolutely rediculous honestly. Boyfriend finally gets the phone call to come pick him up, and finally was able to pick him up around 12:15 pm. Now, he was there for nail trimming, a bath, a cut, and blow dry. Typical groom! The groom job was terrible!!!! So many uneven pieces of hair everywhere! His face and ears especially not even. Looks like they barely touched his body. Typically out of his groom appointments with the private groom he looks and smells amazing! He looks quite dapper and so handsome! This time, terrible. I get that sometimes people are fairly new to grooming and many not have as much experience with grooming or animals. Honestly this should be listed! And the nonsense with the appointment times and punctuality. Why? Not honest with the times, and lackluster of a job with his groom and bath. He smells of nothing! What was even used!??? Did they even friggen bathe him!? We have used this service for the first...and absolutely LAST TIME EVER! Very unprofessional behavior! Such a sour taste from this experience, we will never use these services again. read more

DO NOT BUY ANIMALS FROM HERE. Petsmart does not know how to take care of their animals and the employees always give out false information about them. I've also heard stories about Petsmart throwing live animals away in their dumpsters but Im not sure if this one does. If you buy an animal from here its just supporting their neglectful system and they will keep "restocking" these animals like toys. It's a never ending cycle. read more

As she makes herself out to be the one and only higher power in the Hotel, there are a few valuable traits unbeknownst to her that she is sorely lacking. The first and foremost is how to handle a cat who is not aggressive and needs to be accommodated. The second is how to speak to people with respect. The third is to be a mensch and show compassion. PETSMART BOARDING REVIEW...long review, but please do yourself the favor and read this. I never write reviews, but this one is worth sharing. Little back story. I have an 80 pound mutt that is almost 2 years old. She is 80 pounds of love, snuggles and affection. This dog does not have a nasty bone in her body for humans or other animals. She was boarded several times before with our vet, but our vet passed away earlier this year and the office has closed and no longer offers boarding services. Given that I had to find a new boarding option, after much research, at the end of May, I decided to book a stay with Petsmart on Route 18 for our August Family Vacation. Fast forward, on the day our family was leaving for vacation, I brought our dog to Petsmart at approximately 9:00 am. We checked in and as soon as I tried to hand off my dog, she put the brakes on and did not want to go with the staff. To calm her, I walked her around the store and then brought her back to staff for the handoff. She still was hesitant, but I was able to get her to go with the staff member. Picture this...we are almost at our destination, approximately 3 hours from home and I get a phone call from Petsmart around 12:30, that my dog has pinned herself in the corner of the cage and is supposedly growling at staff. This dog has NEVER growled at anyone or anything. I don't even know what a growl would sound like coming from her. I even told the staff member that I found it very hard to believe that my dog growled. I swear this dog doesn't have growling abilities in her DNA. Keep in mind that this is the same dog that has been boarded elsewhere before without a single issue. This is the same dog where I had 25 people at my house a few weeks prior (almost all guests never met my dog before) and she was following everyone around for belly rubs. The same dog that has constant play dates with a family members Shih Tzu. Get the point.... Petsmart said they would give it a little while longer to see if she adjusts but just wanted to let me know that we have an issue and she may need to be picked up. I told the staff member that this was impossible as we were about 3 hours away and on our family vacation. The staff member said that is unsafe for her and them and that if things don't improve quickly, we would need to pick her up by 6 (when they close) or else they have to call animal control!!! I told the staff member to give her some time and that I would check back in a little bit. Around 1:30 I called back and they said nothing had changed and that we needed to pick her up. Our hands were tied. We had no choice but to go get our girl. My husband had to leave me and our children at the hotel, and head back to petsmart to pick up our dog. (He made it before 6). When he arrived to get our girl, she was laying in the enclosure all sad and mopey looking. All that the manager had to offer was an extremely useless "I am sorry" and a look of horror when my husband expressed how upset he was that they said they were going to call animal control. My husband expressed that they need staff who is equipped to handle dogs who are upset and out of their environment. Giving a dog 3.5 hours to adjust is unrealistic. Plus telling us that you are calling animal control if we can get there by close of business that same day is offensive. Our first day of vacation was completely ruined.  My husband spent a fortune in gas and tolls going back and forth...not to mention all the time he spent driving that day (10+ hours).  The icing on our cake....we had to scramble and find someone to care for our dog for the week or cancel our vacation. With absolutely no options available, we wound up begging a family member to help us out.  It is a terrible imposition on them and a lot to ask of someone, especially with absolutely no notice. If I could give negative stars, I would. I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND PETSMART BOARDING ON ROUTE 18 TO ANYONE!!!!!! Save yourself the potential aggrevation and don't book here either. read more

Horrific experience at grooming in the east brunswick petsmart. My dogs went today for bath & cut, and when I was leaving their medicated shampoo (that has been used there always and listed on their system) the manager Amber's said that since the label fell off their shampoo she can not use the shampoo. I found this insane. I said to her that its noted that my dogs use their medicated shampoo. She said no and turned me away. I will NEVER use their grooming services ever again. They need better managera at these locations. read more

Absolutely awful experience. Our dog has boarded at their location at least 25 times. Every single time he was anxious at handoff but they were able to get him to separate successfully and he was a "perfect" dog, as per their feedback. This week we had a reservation for him to stay for the week as we were going away. The lady came up from behind our dog and put the "lasso" of their leash around his head. Our dog was startled, and growled at the unwelcome surprise. Immediately, they refused to go near him, as he "looked aggressive". Our dog has never bitten anyone, and they have years of notes of him staying there and being perfectly behaved. They refused to board our dog, and left us in an impossible situation, as we were supposed to be heading away on a family trip. Needless to say, we had to change plans, and they did not care at all. No effort was made on their part to work with us or our dog, whom they have gladly taken for years, all because of their awful approach and careless attitude. We will avoid using Petsmart Petshotel at all costs, as we cannot count on them as a reliable option moving forward. read more

Do NOT EVEEEERRRRRRR SEND YOUR DOG HERE!!!!!! Warning!!!!!!! We booked a stay for the hotel. Upon arrival, my husband dropped him off, they said it takes 15 minutes to approve his stay to assure he isn't aggressive. The staff has zero training, even to how to approach a dog. Their very own trainer had to teach them how to say hello, told them they're not properly trained etc showed them how to do it. After 15 minutes they approved his stay. 4 hours later we receive a call stating they called our emergency contacts, lies, Bc he pooped in the cage and they couldn't clean it out with him inside. That makes sense right? While we're in the airport, telling us to come pick him up Bc of it. Stating he's growling at them (our dog is the most gentle loving sweet baby) they stated they couldn't feed him in his cage. So for 3 days they haven't fed him. I agree after 3 days of mistreatment and starvation any dog will show teeth. Called us today saying we have to pick him up. We're in Puerto Rico. Everyone is at work. The manager was screaming at my husband so I got on the phone and tore her a new one (on every call) Bc one their staff is not trained. Two they're not feeding my baby. And I'll be damned if you're gonna threaten to call animal control Bc your staff. is NOT TRAINED. Jasper is a 8 month old puppy. Scared. Confused. Starving. Other dogs were growling at him when he entered the facility. Are they getting animal control for these dogs???? Animal control shows up and wouldn't you know Jasper is sitting in her lap. Happy. Listening to commands, responsive to treats. Ummmmm...... yeah. He's so aggressive right?? Just so you know they're not trained not feeding your dogs keeping them locked in cages for days. They do not car for your baby. They refused to give treats. Flat out said they won't feed him. 3 days not feeding. Horrible staff. HORRENDOUS MANAGER REBECCA WILSON!!! She's the trunchbull for you Matilda fans. When I come back from my vacation I will be taking her job. It will be my mission to remove her from this petsmart and make sure she will NEVER work again. The absolute most unprofessional pet business on earth. I planed months ahead for them to watch my cat for a cruise I had been planning for years. I went in to drop her off today, she was upset at being a new place which I asked about several time being assured they could handle it. I go into drop her off after a few minutes they say my nine pound little cat is too dangerous to be cared for. I just had to cancel a cruise I had planned for years losing $2,000. They are also still charging me for this! But I will definitely file a dispute with Amex. I hope no one ever patronizes this business again. Facility seemed clean... while we were browsing the store, asked a couple of the staff some questions and they were completely and utterly clueless. It was very odd. We wanted to know about how the adoption works and where it takes place and it seemed like we knew more than them! I was impressed to see they have a "hotel" and a vet at this location. When the service was complete, I was notified that she was ready to be picked up... I believe I took about 30 minutes to go and get her and was called a second time.. My 2 year old zuchon goes to the daycare multiple days a week. She is very happy during drop offs! She loves the staff and they treat her as good as I do. She has made many doggie friends and spends the days playing! I feel confident leaving her overnight and have done so a few times. Not a good place to take your pet for the "hotel"... I picked up my dog after four days in and he was sick. Vomiting and diarrhea all over. You'd think they'd say something at check out or call you during the calls made on last two days. But no way. Also Seems the amount of food Fed was massive as the amount vomited was more than what he is normally fed. Baking the shift on the food is hogwash. My dog eats any food period. It's a shame but there is NO way I would ever drop him off here again. And if I need to take him to VET it will be another story all together. read more

I like PetSmart normally better than Petco because it's usually cleaner and well organized. This store is moderately clean, a lot of the animals had some accidents, but I saw the staff cleaning the messes so that's good. The pet smell isn't as strong as Petco. Whenever I smell pets, it makes me want to gag. They have loads of aisles and each one is marked for which animal's needs. The aisles are to me aren't claustrophobic, but they could be a little bit more spaced. I had to get out of the aisle to let people through. I like the PetSmart better in North Brunswick, because its larger and has better deals. But, this location is closer to me, so this one will have to do. read more

I have a two-year old beagle who has been coming here for almost her entire life and I simply have nothing but positive things to write about this particular location. I have brought her into the grooming salon and the pets hotel, and I have had positive experiences with both. The groomers are very nice and understanding when it comes to handling my rambunctious, energetic ball of love! They make sure to take her time with her nails (they have never cut her), and they even hug her when they do the nail grinding. Additionally, I have had to board her into the pets hotel a couple times this year (This is one of the only locations in NJ that has a hotel & it happens to be 5 min away from me - total plus). The staff at the hotel portion have always been nice & accommodating, especially if I've needed to board her last minute. They've also provided me with progress reports so I appreciate the open communication. Overall, I really like this location. They are always hosting events for dogs (breed days & special doggie day camps) and cool treats for pet parents (such as keepsake photos). Safe to say my fur baby will be returning. read more

I had seen the google reviews about pets being weird after their stay and I thought my baby would be okay since he is such a OUTGOING and FRIENDLY dog . My dog was severely and I mean extremely scared and nervous after her left and refused to go back in the store. When we stepped out he peed like if he had not peed in a whole day. My dog is trained and he popped in the middle of the street a large amount. So much unusual behavior. I sent him in for a groom and his entire coat is filed with white dust and he looks just like i left him. This particular location is a waste of your time and a horror for your pet. The ladies at the pets hotel desk make you feel unwelcome too. My dog and I were terrible disappointed and dissatisfied with his stay and groom. Save your money and go else where. read more

I'm not one to ever write a review but I was extremely disappointed in the nail trimming services my dog received today. I brought both my dogs there and they both received nail services from what appeared to be a new tech. I'm all for everyone learning but it was clear she was new and not confident in nail trimming, so she should have been supervised closely. My elderly dog (12 years old) bled more than 5 times from 5 different nails! The more experienced tech came up and took over. She told me "it's an unusual phenomenon that is going on with your dogs nails. I haven't seen it in years. His quick appears to be low but once I cut, he bleeds" I explained that the other tech already cut the nails she was working on. No apologies, no nothing. The new tech was no where to be found at this point. I will not return back for a nail cutting service! read more

The place is very nice. Very organized and found everything we needed right away! The staff seems to know what they are talking about. Very Clean, and they have their own Pet Hotel inside. Thats pretty impressive. We were buying medications for our beta fish named "Alpha"! He has "ick", which I found is that white stuff that grows on the side of a fish and all over his body. This can actually kill a fish. We decided to go there really quick. It was an in and out job. We got there, we found the stuff we needed in a matter of minutes. My favorite part about how fast we got the medicine for my dying fish, was how SLOOOW we were served in the register. A million staff, and one person working in the cash register. One customer in front of us, but took 10 minutes to get her SH** together. Dude really?? Is there anyone out there who can take us? You have like 5 other registers that u may wanna open for us? So I promised my sister a new pet for her birthday back in October and bought her a Petsmart gift card. Visiting for the holidays we brought her to the local Petsmart to get a new little friend for the house. The staff were extremely attentive. We looked at the Guinea Pigs and in a matter of moments we had like the Guinea Pig guru assisting us, Anaya.. He helped us make a new home for a cute New Guinea pig and was able to answer every question and concern we had. Great store if you are looking for a new pet or help with existing pets. I brought my dog in for grooming, specifically for a pawdicure plus, and I won't be coming back. With the pawdicure plus you get the dogs nails done, hair cut between their feet, spritz, bandana, and ear cleaning, and only half of that was done on my dog. He only had a spritz and a nail trim and only ONE of this ears were cleaned. She said that she didn't want to traumatize him by cleaning the other because he didn't like it. If I specifically didn't want it done, I would have mentioned it, but if I'm paying you to do a service and it can't be done that is a problem. I also looked forward to the bandana and wasn't satisfied at all. I'm upset that I gave a 20% tip as I feel like it was just a lazy job with excuses to not groom to the fullest. I adopted a very skittish long haired cat in August. She only started letting me pet her a couple of weeks ago. I could tell her hair was matted and she had some feces caught in the fur around her anus. She wouldn't let me comb her, so I knew the only thing I could do was take her in for a lion cut. I didn't want to go to the vet and drive 30 minutes to pay $300, so I came here. Tina took such good care of Selina. I think Susan helped. I've never had a cat groomed before, so I didn't really know what to expect. They were wonderful with her and got the job done so that she wouldn't have Her skin pulling with the mats or (I think) the equivalent of diaper rash. This place is horrible and discriminatory against dogs with speacial needs. So unless your dog can be just locked in a room find some place else for your pet. My dog is deaf and stayed there twice the first time he stayed after I picked him up the girl seemed so happy to have him knowing he was a rescue and he was deaf made him more lovable. I asked if I was able to leave tips for the staff and they said sure they normally save them and order pizza or lunch for the staff with the tips. I left $50 and appreciated them taking care of my dog . 2nd time was a gentleman, he was so happy when I dropped buddy up they said they remembered him from the last stay and that he loved belly rubs , this time I had to send someone to pick him up they said he was not eating (so they said) again left them a Tip. Now last two times I requested an appointment they said they were full ? Well A friend called right after me and those same dates were available? Love this store. Sale prices on dog food can't be beat. Staff are really friendly. Always there to help. It is like a little dog town. Has training, Vet clinic, grooming and hotel what more can u want. It's also very clean and always stocked. Reptilea, birds etc always clean. Love that I get coupons all the time also. whether I'm browsing or on a mission it's always quick and friendly. It's a pleasure going in this store. The selections are wonderful. Hate when your stuck with no variety. Definitely an awesome store for pets.. not much of a selection on toys for pets tho. read more

Another store that is always in order. Friendly staff is always around to greet you as well as offer advice if you need it. Or in my case, reach items on the top shelf. I really only come here to get dog food and I'm in and out within 5 minutes. Ok, ok and to go see the dogs in the back that are in camp! I give credit to any employee that can stay in the room with all of those barking, peeing, howling, humping dogs. I prefer this PetSmart over the Petco that's about the same distance, maybe a hair closer. I feel there is more of a selection and it's just a nicer store overall! read more

Can I give it a zero starts. I made the biggest mistake in my life by bringing my puppy to stay the night. Normally I would not have, but our regular dog sitter was not available. We dropped off a healthy puppy and when we picked him up 24 hours later, he was honking like a goose. The person that checked him out said those sounds because he was excited to see us. That was ridiculous. I beg you that if your pet is part of the family, please do not check them in to the PetsMart hotel in East Brunswick. When the honking would not go away we spent about $450 to have tests done to determine exactly what type of parasite he had contracted at that place. When we finally were check out of the hotel, my pup could not get out of there fast enough. I sent an email and snail mail to corporate, but I guess this is a common occurrence so they did not get back to me. Deeply disappointed and will never go to PetsMart for any service ever again. They have a play session with other dogs and its nice not like when you board your dog else where. Whenever we can't take our dog with us we take him here to the pet hotel.
