It's been confirmed by my "well known" vet that companies in general including Petsmart commit fraud when their employee's give false information regarding the birds age, health, and sex! ZERO STARS! Took my pup here for a groom and what a nightmare. Instead of a fresh cut, he walked out with razor burn on his belly and pits. If you want your dog to leave feeling like they went through a cheese grater, this is your spot. His nails look like a preschooler went at them with scissors. Very scary! He cried when I picked him up. He wasn't even barking all day and threw up when he came home and twice at night! My pup was in serious discomfort. Careless, rushed, and honestly disrespectful to animals. I won't trust them with my pup again, and you shouldn't either if you actually care about your dog's comfort. Visited today with a dog that was recently rescued after a tragic event. Staff loved on him and took great care of a little boy that had not been around people much, if ever! The kindness and care shown was super appreciated and made it such a nice experience! He looked great, smelled so much better and had ticks removed that most likely were do uncomfortable for him! The PetSmart grooming department is awesome. I've taken my Golden Retriever there for nearly a year. We get her paw pads trimmed and nails Dremel drilled on a regular basis. Since she was a little puppy, we've also taken her to get bathed and groomed. I've been very pleased with the whole experience. The staff are very friendly and experienced. They handle dogs with ease, or at least it appears that way. lol. They are patient and caring when handling dogs. Justice has bathed my dog a few times. She handles my dog with finesse. We are very happy with her and the whole staff. Everyone is helpful and full of knowledge. A+ for the grooming department. We will continue to go there as my dog is a happy canine customer. read more

Unethical company!!! Our birds were not vet assured like they claim to be before and at the time of purchase... PetSmart wasn't transparent and sold us two young and SICK white Canary's (we found out later that they should not be bred together because there is a risk of any offspring dying before hatching)!!! What a coincidence they were 15% on clearance the assistant manager said because the female had laid eggs and PetSmart wanted both to go to a home together!!! We found out from the vet that it takes months for the birds to develop these problems!!! Neither one of our birds were treated for internal parasites etc... The female died about a month later!!! We were unable to find a vet on time they were all on leave and were not going to be available for a while Unfortunately, her illness(s) escalated quickly... Our male bird is currently taking four different medications!!! We had to take him to an emergency avian vet because he was having problems breathing and has a large tumor (bald spot), etc. The emergency vet we took our bird to told us "not to listen to PetSmart" because I told her the assistant manager recommended Fiesta canary food which the vet said is very high in fat... The assistant manager told us (that's what PetSmart feeds their canaries) I asked her do the birds require extra vitamins she said "oh that's up to you"!!! Please don't buy birds from here unless you are willing to pay hundreds of dollars on helping them get well not to mention having to watch them suffer!!! It's sickens us that PetSmart lies and doesn't care about the birds they sell or the public because the birds carry diseases that could be transmitted to humans as well as other animals!!! PetSmart you sell birds so take the full responsibility of providing for their healthcare especially under your care don't rely on the customer to do the dirty work... It's unacceptable that this happened and it's heartbreaking these animals deserve better than to be treated like they don't matter as long as you make a sale!!! read more

They don't even deserve one star a very good friend just shared her experience and doesn't have yelp so i am helping her in spreading the word ..... It has has been 5 days since April's haircut. It took me this long to relax and talk about it. She went to Petsmart in Crystal Lake. Supposedly to a groomer who had the best experience with older dogs. What I saw was awful. He had April by her her so tight she was crying so hard and April jerked her neck. Also he cut her mole right open. He cut her nose and they said it was from being dry. He trim her toes but look like a kid had scissors did it. He only did one gland. He also did not finish her ears. I had to take her to the emergency vet to get her looked at. April's heart rate was so high. I am angry and sad for April that anyone would do this to her. They can say whatever they want but they hurt my April. I can't do anything because I signed a paper. All I can do is share my story. She slept 24 hours after this. read more

Booked our 6 month old Cat a nail cap appointment . Called 2 weeks ahead of time checked to see what was all about in doing nail caps , shots, age , vaccine records etc. Now when we first got our cat I called about this and was told that she needed to be at least 6 months old to get this done . Now we get to our appointment with records in hand only to be told that she has to be a year old . I said that's not what I was told on several different calls about doing this. Then " Megan " in a very hateful manner says well it wasn't me I don't know who you talked to but it wasn't me . Who ever you think you were talking to did know what they were talking about. Staff was nice and friendly but I don't like how the organize the grooming. I had an appointment for my dog and it was going to take 2-3 hours before he was done so he's in a cage waiting longer than he would be in the bath. I would put 0 stars but it does not give that option. I took my 2 dogs to get their nails trimmed. The groomer was not professional at all. He was pulling hard on my dogs neck to to reach the nails. My dog has not acted like this before, she was throwing up because her neck was being pulled too hard, usually my dog is super cool and does not care about getting her nails done. She was super scared. Was not able to get my other dog in due to rabies not being valid, even though it's due in 2025... 10/10 would NOT recommend this place. read more

Literally the worse grooming job EVER. Our family has Pomeranians and took three of them to be groomed today. They look like someone with a machete groomed them. Its not even EVEN... How do you shave a poms mane??? It's not even a "teddy bear" cut??? Do you let anyone that can turn on a clippers/shaver near an animal? I thought these people were educated and had certification in grooming to be allowed to go near an animal?! DO NOT TAKE THE CHANCE AT THIS LOCATION. Brought my cat in for grooming. Very bad experience. The cat groomer brought the cat over to Banfield animal hospital after she finished grooming the cat without my consent or a phone call to tell me she was doing so. She stated (after shaving all the hair off) that the cat looked dehydrated based on her opinion that the cat's skin was droopy and thin. Yes, the cat's skin is thin. Hello, he is an 18 year old cat! Neither the cat groomer or the "brilliant" vet claimed to have had the information that the cat was 18 years old (was given to them when booked the appointment) or understand that droopy skin is to be expected in a senior. Suddenly, I am wondering what they expect their skin to look like when they hit 90? The outcome is that they tried to stick me with a vet bill! Unbelievable. I was told that in order to bring my cat in again, it would also need a current or another vet exam at the appointment time. After chewing out the vet, she waived the bill. She then acknowledged that a senior cat, ye can have droopy skin. Why did she not look at the teeth of this animal? Like any normal vet would do to age an animal. Why did the vet not call me if she was so concerned? Why was I not informed that the cat was having an appointment without my consent? The cat was not collapsing, was not in distress, was not panting, was not vomiting, did not have a fever, was not dizzy, did not have a rapid heartbeat, or any other symptom of dehydration. When I tried to discuss this with the manager, he said that he would speak to the veterinarian and then get back to me. Never heard back. Poor customer follow up. Bottom line? My cat has been alive and well for 18 years with regular grooming, vaccines, and yearly vet visits. His age speaks to the fact that he has been kept healthy and in good shape . Will not return to have any of my animals groomed and certainly would not go to a vet who does not have common sense! read more

I used to take my dog here for grooming and nail grinding and my total would be around 28-30. So last time i took him they charged me around 42. I thought it was weird and asked them why and they said it was because of his age. (My dog was 7 months!!) so i asked my sister in law who takes him to the persmart in mt prospect and she has the same breed and her dog is 7 years old and they charged her 27 bucks for nail clip and express bath. So i called the one in Schaumburg and they said it was 40 because $15 charge since my dog is a breed that cant stay in the kennel? Weird... so i decided to see if the one in mt prospect charges the same or what. And they said its 27 bucks for bath and nail clipping! If your pet is greeting groomed @ that Pet Smart location in Crystal Lake make sure if there is something you don't like ect. Prepare to be talked to rudely & unwelcome to that location. Today Ashley one of the groomers told me I wasn't welcome in the groomer anymore 1st of all I'm not the pet getting groomed. It is my dog getting groomed. I believe that customer/client should always be talked to respectfully. The same way she was talking loud to me, I was talking loud to her, but there is no way you being the manager can talk to someone rudely if anything she should've grabbed a supervisor. It all started because she hung up the phone on me and I drove to the groomer to talk to someone above her and thankfully he was there when she told me that in other words, my dog is not welcome in the groomer due to an incident that happened June 25, 2022, which my vet said the incident was most likely do to a bacteria he picked up there & unfortunately caused him to have those bald spots. I did talk to corporation and I'm hoping that someone teaches her a lesson because there is no ways to talk to customers like that & first of all you don't hang up the phone and then not welcome others especially when you don't even own the place. My business for the groomer is done at that location. Things could have been taken "professionally" especially because she was working and not only high. I was working in the area that day and I really needed to fit my jazzy in and they welcomed us with open arms! Even tho I was late they didn't make me feel worse then I already did they made sure to make the recommendations for my jazzy that no groomer has done before! I was looking for Hills Science Diet RX food for our dog who has been really sick due to inflammation of the liver and pancreas. However our vet is no longer carrying the food and is switching to Purina. So checked here. Cathy thought this was funny for some reason. I went here to purchase prescription cat food. The girl at the counter is a rude little witch (putting that nicely) I eventually got help from the guys who looked like techs who were very helpful. I went this Saturday and saw dogs in doggy day care. It was HORRIBLE!!!! There were waaaaaay to many dogs in this tiny little area with one person. All the dogs were pointed towards the door which shows they DID NOT WANT to be in there. It was much to small for the amount of animals in there. For the amount of freaking money Petsmart makes of of these sweet babies it is SHAMEFUL!!!! There should be a much larger area for theses pups to be in. On a beautiful day there should be a small area for them to be out in the fresh air and sun. F'kin SHAME on you Petsmart!!! I will look to get food elsewhere a company like this obviously is just worried about money it's really sad and sickening to witness. If you are a pet owner LOOK at where your pet is being placed. Crystal Lake PetsMart is our favorite. The groomers are amazing and so sweet with both our pups (pitbull/mix & lab/terrier). When we come in for grooming or monthly nail trimmings they know their names and are so happy to see them which makes me know that they are in good hands. We have started using doggie day care a few times and same experience. And the price is very affordable, for a single time need. I can see how it could add up with you dropped your dogs off every day. Overall very happy with everyone who handles our dogs. read more

We love the Crystal Lake location! We buy our dog food and treats here. We also utilize grooming services and boarding for our three German Shepherds. The staff is always super friendly and they remember us (and the dogs.) I appreciate the store's attention to being safe during COVID. Sanitizing supplies are available for carts and hands at the entrance, and sanitizer pumps are available throughout the store. Plus, staff are always wearing masks, this have me a lot of confidence shopping here during COVID. Keep up the great work! read more

Although I am absolutely sure that this pet hotel is a wonderful place for dogs to stay, I am quite hurt because I recently tried to make a reservation for my 6-month old Pitbull and I was told he was not able to participate in group-play because of his breed. This is literally the first place who judged my dog before interviewing or meeting him (which I recommend they do if they want more buisness.) My dog has been to several daycares, and also completed a training course and was #1 at the top of his class. He lives with a cat, a little girl, and has playdates with a small dog every other day. I really encourage Petsmart Pet Hotel to interview dogs before judging their breeds. I work at a veterinary hospital, and let me tell you-- I have seen my fair share of dangerous Dalmations, other small dog, and even Labradors, so I feel its really unfair to judge a baby pitbull. I understand they are trying to keep the animals safe and I truly appreciate that! But I suggest they interview ALL dogs before they are able to stay :) read more

They made my dog sick. DO NOT TRUST THEM WITH YOUR DOG'S HEALTH AND WELL-BEING! ( in Crystal Lake, IL ) I specifically asked them to clean my dogs anal glands. They didn't. Two weeks later my dog's gland bursts, and I had to rush him to the veterinary hospital. Apparently they have never cleaned my dog's anal gland even though I bring him in for a haircut every 2-3 months. Also, I payed for the delux grooming which includes teeth brushing and ear hair removal. The vet said my dog's teeth needs to be brushed and the hair in his ear is bothering him since he can't stop scratching. I don't even know what I payed PetSmart for if they don't do half of their job! All they do is give them a quick bath, spay some perfume on them to smell good, shave off some hair and send them home. read more

Steadily going downhill over the last few years - most of the staff come off as irritated and let you know they are overworked. They grooming most times leaves a lot to be desired. I can say this because in the past we have been "wowed" by their work but not for a few years now. I made appointments on line for our two dogs for today. Got ther eand finally was told they had no appointment for the one dogs. I showed them their tow emails thanking me for making the TWO appointments - and they said "we don't have that".... Took our husky there to be boarded for a few days. She came home sick. She had bad kennel cough and couldn't hold anything down. I called them and was told that she must have been sick already. She has her kennel cough shot, and she was healthy when I brought her there. We also paid for grooming and her nails cut. They could only cut 3 nails (not paws) so they gave us $5.00 off. I would not recommend boarding at this place. They do not require the boardetella shot which prevents kennel cough. read more

Do not take your dogs to this PetSmart for Doggie Day Care or boarding. It is unsafe for all dogs. We have been going to this location for 2 1/2 years and have always enjoyed its services. Recently we have noticed a fall in quality of care due to a new manager taking over as well as an increase in price. Today we were charged with a vet bill for another dog because our dog bit it. We should not be expected to be responsible for our dog once we drop them off at a day camp. Whichever employee is in camp at the time should be responsible for the welfare and safety of the dogs, should they not? My dog has both been a victim of bites and scratches and he has bitten and scratched other dogs. I have also been bitten by a large breed dog at this location that scarred my leg. There is only one person to monitor up to 16 dogs at a time with only a squirt bottle and a shoddy walkie talkie to contact other employees for help. Large breeds and small breeds are put into the same camp which creates a stressful environment for dogs and humans alike. PetSmart needs to rethink its guidelines for the safety of their employees and customers. We will not be returning to this location and we will contact one of the many other options in this area. As a Pet Perks holder, you officially just lost the business of a dog, two cats, three snakes, two lizards, and two disgruntled humans. read more

usually pretty happy here (compared to a small independent kennel we once used in lakewood). always seem to have issues with boarding our two mini-dachshunds, they say at first they can't have playtime together, and then we have to convince them otherwise. This time when we dropped them off for thanksgiving, they also informed us they also couldn't sleep in the same room. First it was dealing with a young woman named rebecca who not only had attitude, but wasn't consoling or caring that the rules seem to have suddenly changed, and that's "corporate policy" and she couldn't lose her job by breaking the rules (there are better ways to deal with a customer, who is usually right). She also didn't bother to double check the policy, or at least show them to us. We left with no other choice, and soon got a call from the store manager, who called other stores and realized they made a mistake (as did 2 other employees, who were at least nice about it). Seems their own policies are written confusing, and it does state if both dogs aren't neutered, then they can't sleep together or play together for fear of fighting. But if one is fixed, and one isn't, that's ok to have them sleep in same room and have play time together. We didn't get any apology from rebecca, who should have owned up to her mistake and attitude, but instead ran away when we came back in. I almost want to either: a. call corporate and get a copy of their own policies since they can't seem to figure it out, or b. go to the joliet location, since they seem to know what their own rules are read more

There is only one groomer, Ashley, at this store I trust and she is on maternity leave. Twice now I have been turned away from a simple nail trimming. First time no rabies certificate record even though I stopped at this store on the way home from the rabies inoculation on one of our dogs. Today I was turned away with a different dog but same situation...stopping to make sure rabies certificate was recorded and to get nails cut. I was turned away because "it is Petsmart policy to not do a grooming for two days after inoculations". The reason being stress on the animal. That is horse hockey. I will bend over backwards to not do business with Petsmart again, even though sometimes it may be necessary. She did an awesome job from the moment I walked in the door with our two dogs for a haircut, bath, and nail cutting! We have a Shih Tzu and a wire-haired Terrier mix, and she did a great job on both of them! I normally prefer to cut their hair at home since it's free at the house, but knowing that Brianna is holding down the fort here at PetSmart, I'd gladly pay to have them transformed from scraggly monsters into well-coiffed critters! I took my dog there to be groomed. Brittany was extremely friendly and answered all my questions. He is a border collie and in need of a grooming. She did an amazing job. Cleaned his anal glands which were in bad shape. Said he growled a bit and gave her a bad time when trimming his nails, but didn't bite. Just came back from our second grooming appointment. He looks great and she reported that he was a lot calmer when doing his nails. Everyone was friendly and treated my dog as their own. Last week I took him for day care. The fact that he wanted to go back in speaks volumes. I'd recommend them to anyone. read more

Despite the lukewarm reviews, this is the only place I will leave my dog. It is 40 minutes away from my home but still worth the trip. I have left my dog many times near my home in Schaumburg but she has always come back ill in some way shape or form. This is the nearest Pet hotel Petsmart so I have been taking her there for about 5-6 years. They have lots of affordable play options, designated people can visit your dog while you are away, they will groom or arrange a Doggie day care play day so you don't pay the late fee on pick up day if you pick up after 12PM, they give a full report card, apply discounts as much as possible and you can call anytime to see how your pet is doing. They take care of all her belongings and will even give her a bed or blanket if we forget hers so she wont be on a hard surface. The customer service has always (I have called for a 100 reasons over the years) is always very nice and respectful--they(no matter who they are) are always loving toward our dog Shibu. I have a dog but I am not a crazy pet parent type. However, I do expect decent care and clean environment for a pet I am paying for.(There is NEVER even a bad smell when I drop off or pick up) I get this and much more from Petsmart in Crystal Lake. I would even say Thank you in this review for being a place I can trust my pet with. She comes back healthy, clean, tired from all the fun and again I am not a dog obsessed person but I swear she comes home with a doggie smile! read more
