In the past, PetSense hosted a lady named Manda who offered the services of pet nail trimming. Manda was great with my dog. My dog has very thick nails and most are black to where you cannot see the quick. She cut my dog's nails quickly and you could tell she has done this for a very long time. She never made him bleed once. Even my vet makes my dog's nails bleed every once in a while.
I went into PetSense this past Sunday and I was informed that Manda is no longer there, because PetSense now offers the nail trimming services themselves.
I asked the lady if she was experienced in nail trimming. She said, "oh yes, ma'am" and that they have been all trained to do so. I felt apprehensive about this, but stupidly I put my dog on the table. I also told her I was going to muzzle him. He isn't aggressive with people at all, but if she accidentally hurts him I just wanted peace of mind that he wouldn't think about nipping.
She had trouble clipping his first nail and stated she had never had a dog with such thick nails before and that she was a weak person. She also stated she was nervous, because she never had a dog muzzled before. By the time she got to his third nail, she stated she never saw a dog's nail that curved like his before. She didn't know how to cut that particular nail so got got another clipping tool, which made him bleed like a stuck pig.
By then, I was over it and so was my dog. After she got the bleeding to stop, I got him off the table and declined for her to continue.
I asked for her to get the name and number of the lady (Manda) who used to be there. Manda was able to see me the same day and was able to clip my dog's nails quickly and expertly. She had to fix the messed up toenail a bit too, because the way the other girl cut it made it crack when he put his weight on it.
The staff at PetSense were nice and the lady who clipped my dog was remorseful for hurting him. I will not be returning to PetSense for nail clipping again. They need people with experience in this field so they don't hurt our pets. read more
