But seeing Valerie's preparation with all the necessary documents, vet information, emergency contacts, and daily schedule made it immediately clear we were in good hands. Valerie was watching our cat, which included feeding, playing, and litter-cleaning. She also offered to take in the mail, water any plants, and send text/photo updates as frequently as every day (we took her up on the last offer, which was charming and gave our family some good laughs over the holidays). It was like we never left when we returned, and I can't imagine a better compliment for a pet sitter. We came back to a happy cat, which made for some happy cat owners. As her behavior was becoming less acceptable I did some research and found YDBF. Blair came to the shop and spent a couple hours with me, my partner and Lucy. Blair was very patient with all of us and explained her methodology. She gave us some homework and made plans to get together again in a couple weeks. We've had three sessions so far and there's been a drastic change for the better in my dog. These changes were within a day of the first session. I cannot sing the praises of Blair and YDBF loud enough. I thank you and Lucy probably does too since she has become a more laid back and easygoing dog. After that private session, we were really looking forward to the Mastering the Leash Walk workshop. Based on the training philosophy listed on the company's website, Lynn's recommendation, online reviews, and the class description we thought this workshop would help us improve walks with our rescue pup. Unfortunately the experience didn't meet those expectations. One [very large and awesome mastiff] puppy took over the instructor's attention and barked for much of the workshop, which made it hard to engage in the class. The dog was sweet, but obviously had very little training (nor had it been neutered, which was surprising for a group class) and disrupted instruction and learning. Although we respect Cesar Milan's training methods, it was disappointing that Max seemed to recite book content without fully showing how to implement those methods in the leash walk. The class description said be ready to enjoy walking with your dog off-leash, by your side. We didn't expect drastic change, but at least wanted actionable information on improving the walk. We were hoping for more instructor attention for each attendee, not just for the loudest or one that needed the most all around training help. It would have been helpful to see the instructor work with the variety of dogs in attendance and reiterate each of the general training ideas he shared. I think the cost warranted a handout or a web page (just one page with an outline or a couple short instructional videos) dedicated to the workshop content. Ultimately, the grandiose description was misleading and was not fulfilled in the workshop. I think at best this workshop was an Intro to Leash Walking Philosophy, which left us feeling like money and time wasted.

Other groomers were intimidated or uninterested in figuring out how to manage his triple coat, but Maureen researched it and learned how to groom him thoughtfully, without leaving him naked and stressed. He always looks fabulously handsome (my bias) when done. Regarding the 7 hours mentioned in a previous review: this is a one woman shop. I can imagine the day getting long if there was another dog (mine?) on the day's schedule needing more time and attention to detail. Maureen does excellent work; perhaps she values that over timing. In any case, she's a careful, knowledgeable, hard working groomer. I hate to see her disparaged as "crazy", though that sort of insult is really only a statement about the person leaving the review.
