First impressions of this shop are good. It appears well stocked and the staff very obliging…read more However, after a few visits, the advice we've been given is not so great. It seems the staff advocate harsh training methods (yanking the lead, poking and hitting a puppy on the nose). I was told my dog was vicious even though he is just fearful. Two different staff members leant right over him and crowded him causing him to snarl at them, even though I made it known that he was nervous. Seems the staff do not know how to approach a nervous dog. I was also given some rather dodgy advice regarding a parrot. The staff truly believe that flicking a parrot's beak if they bite will solve the problem! I'd say as a shop this is fine, but take any advice they give you with a whole bucket of salt!

Unfortunately my voyeuristic interest in pets of the slimy and scaly variety is all too often spoilt by a shop that keeps its animals in cramped or unhygienic conditions (yes, I know it's not a zoo, but still...). Happily, I encountered no such problems at Tyrannosaurus Pets, an 'exotic' pet store that stocks lizards, snake and amphibians. Quite aside from having one of the best pet shop names ever, this shop is a credit to its trade with a shiny, modern shop floor; helpful, knowledgeable staff and - most importantly - spacious, clean vivariums filled with content animals. When I visited I was quite open about the fact I'd just come for a gawp, but the staff treated me as if I was a paying customer, and told me lots of stuff about the logistics of keeping lizards and snakes that I'd never heard before, despite pet shop loitering being something of a habit of mine. If you're thinking of buying an unusual pet or already own one and need to stock up on accessories, this is the only place you should need to go in Leeds.
