Overall the stall has large selection of stock including cages, toys, treats, food and of course animals. I had visited once before and if memory serves they had kittens for sale but sadly they weren't there this time. There was however an array of birds which were sat about chirping and my friend was able to get some nutty seedy type things for the Hamster which weren't that bad for value. This shop can be easily located on the balcony in the market so there should be no problem in finding it if you find yourself in need of straw and sawdust.

They are no more expensive than the big DIY shops and the staff are very informative and knowledgeable. You can buy pretty much anything here and you can also receive lots of expert knowledge about lots of aspects of household care, DIY etc. Support your local ironmonger, it would be a real shame if shops like these succombed to the big global giants.

If you're into statistics - '10.5' x 10.5' x 3' (3.8 x 3.8 x 0.9m) and holds in excess of 2000 gallons/9500 litres' - apparently the biggest tank in any UK retail outlet! And lots and lots of little tanks too. Small boys and girls totally love this place. Adults are pretty keen too. Crying babies are soothed by the dark ambient lighting and the gentle waft and waggle of the passing fishies. There are some pretty gross things too, sort of wobbly intestinal sea-creatures. And some cuties like star fish and sea horses. It looks like a pretty innocuous warehouse from the outside, but even if you actually meant to go next door to buy daffodils you really have to see this. It's the biggest fishy thing going on in Wales with more fish than you could cast your net at.

In addition to the animals, the shop also stocks many items including cages, tanks, food, collars, bowls etc... My main problem with Aquapets, is the size of the store, it's tiny! All the stock appears quite cluttered, and whilst I'm sure the animals are all in suitably sized cages, it just doesn't feel right (it's certainly ironic that there's an RSPCA shop opposite it). So if you're after an animal, or any pet gear, I'd personally go to Pets at Home, it's far less depressing.

By way of saying thank you for her friendly advice, I bought a few treats for my dog - since I hadn't even bought my fish from her. The shop is long and thin, and not particularly big, but they cover most of the basics for cats, hamsters, dogs, rabbits, and most other popular pets - with loads of aquarium-related stuff in stock - and she has her own little dog sat with her behind the counter! My favourites are the guinea pigs and the Roborovski hamsters, and I can quite easily spend a good hour in there debating whether my landlord would notice if I bought one. I am eternally disappointed that there are no mice here, but any cute animals will amuse me well enough. Secondly, since I miss my cats and dog so much, and feel pretty bad for abandoning them, I regularly pop in to buy them treats and toys to take home with me. For pick 'n' mix dog treats, squeaky toys, and accessories such as shampoo, bowls, leads and collars, however, Pets at Home has far more choice than most smaller pet shops. The staff all seem real animal-lovers, and if you take your dog in with you they often ask if they can give it a treat or two. Just be prepared for your dog to get into a right frenzy over all the food smells luring them from aisle to aisle - oh, and watch them if you go near the rabbit and guinea pig enclosures!

Oh, and Reptile Cymru also carry tarantulas, but I only glanced in their direction because the sight of spiders makes my stomach flip. This shop also stocks the entire reptile kit, as well as food like crickets, locusts, mealworms, even mice, rats and chicks (you haven't lived if you've never seen a python swallow a mouse - it's like having the Discovery Channel live in your mate's living room!). The shop assistant was very knowledgeable and willing to indulge me in a conversation about terrapins, my new pet of choice after my dreams of owning a ferret were destroyed by my landlord's strict pet regulations (boo).
