I had visited once before and if memory serves they had kittens for sale but sadly they weren't there this time. There was however an array of birds which were sat about chirping and my friend was able to get some nutty seedy type things for the Hamster which weren't that bad for value. This shop can be easily located on the balcony in the market so there should be no problem in finding it if you find yourself in need of straw and sawdust.

Firstly, and most obviously, I get to go and enjoy the cute animals they have there. My favourites are the guinea pigs and the Roborovski hamsters, and I can quite easily spend a good hour in there debating whether my landlord would notice if I bought one. I am eternally disappointed that there are no mice here, but any cute animals will amuse me well enough. Secondly, since I miss my cats and dog so much, and feel pretty bad for abandoning them, I regularly pop in to buy them treats and toys to take home with me. For pick 'n' mix dog treats, squeaky toys, and accessories such as shampoo, bowls, leads and collars, however, Pets at Home has far more choice than most smaller pet shops. The staff all seem real animal-lovers, and if you take your dog in with you they often ask if they can give it a treat or two. Just be prepared for your dog to get into a right frenzy over all the food smells luring them from aisle to aisle - oh, and watch them if you go near the rabbit and guinea pig enclosures!

The shop is long and thin, and not particularly big, but they cover most of the basics for cats, hamsters, dogs, rabbits, and most other popular pets - with loads of aquarium-related stuff in stock - and she has her own little dog sat with her behind the counter! Crying babies are soothed by the dark ambient lighting and the gentle waft and waggle of the passing fishies. There are some pretty gross things too, sort of wobbly intestinal sea-creatures. And some cuties like star fish and sea horses. It looks like a pretty innocuous warehouse from the outside, but even if you actually meant to go next door to buy daffodils you really have to see this. It's the biggest fishy thing going on in Wales with more fish than you could cast your net at.

They of course sell plenty of pet food in a variety of brands however I find that it is often slightly more expensive than the in the supermarket, so generally avoid purchasing cat food here. Though I should note that it is handy for pet food for more unusual animals that they don't commonly sell in the supermarket. It's not only pet food and toys that are available to purchase at Pets at Home, but the pets themselves. They tend to sell smaller animals (no cats and dogs) such as hamsters, guinea pigs, and small birds. I actually came here recently with my young cousin when she was purchasing a hamster and was quite impressed by the amount of knowledge the staff member serving us had. I also felt that she genuinely cared about the animals in the store which was very good to see. As a child I would probably have told you I loved Aqua Pets, I got a hamster here when I was around…read more8 and the man serving us couldn't have been lovelier. However with age my opinion of Aquapets has very much changed. Despite its name, Aquapets sells a variety of animals including rodents, reptiles, birds, and of course, tropical fish (though not larger household pets such as cats and dogs). In addition to the animals, the shop also stocks many items including cages, tanks, food, collars, bowls etc... My main problem with Aquapets, is the size of the store, it's tiny! All the stock appears quite cluttered, and whilst I'm sure the animals are all in suitably sized cages, it just doesn't feel right (it's certainly ironic that there's an RSPCA shop opposite it). So if you're after an animal, or any pet gear, I'd personally go to Pets at Home, it's far less depressing.
