Only had problems from the start. I will admit that they do respond to you promptly with service calls but when it comes to contract negotiation and monitoring your usage they are TERRIBLE! We only agreed to use them when we had just purchased a home and were in a bind for time. They came and filled the tank without issue and the Salesman Mike said there would be no problems. Well, had we have known they would be back to try and unnecessarily fill our tank every three weeks we would not have agreed. We explained that we are not home often and have no need to keep the tank full. It takes us months to go through a whole tank in fact. My fiancé spoke with customer service and they agreed going forward to call every time before them come to fill. NOT the case. Just had the tank filled in January and came home yesterday to another bill and them without our permission trying to fill the tank. The customer service rep even acknowledged that clearly in our notes it stated not to come UNLESS scheduled. Now we are stuck in a contract we hate and forced to pay outrageous Oil bills. Will never use them again and change companies the moment our contract expires. read more

Worst oil service going In. State!!!! They won,t deliver when you need it!!! I had to call the governers office to get results!!! Stay away from them!!!! read more

We were Petro customers for 3 years. Their service during that time was satisfactory. We always paid every bill in full on time. Regardless of that, God forbid you ever want to cancel your relationship with Petro. They will HARASS you to no end with DAILY phone calls, even when you owe them nothing. When we received our first fill-up for the 2012-2013 winter season, we noticed their price per gallon was SEVENTY cents more per gallon than literally anywhere else. We were disgusted by the price gouging, and were told by Petro that it is justified due to their automatic delivery program. Ridiculous. We got quotes that day from several other companies for automatic delivery for $.70 less per gallon. So we asked to cancel our automatic service, and our annual service plan (which was coming up for renewal the following month), and paid our bill in full. Since that time, we have received no fewer than one phone call PER DAY from their company, asking us if we'd like to reinstate our service. We also have recieved phone calls from their billing department, asking us to pay for our 2013 service plan- the one we cancelled a month prior to the renewal date. There is nothing to bill us for and we certainly should not be dealing with rude collections reps in regards to the service. Do not, under any circumstances, enter into a relationship with Petro Oil. Their prices are outrageous, and their business practices should you end the relationship are bottom-of-the-barrel, borders on harrassment, and is just downright rude. read more

I just had an amazing experience with Petro oil. We had an emergency with our boiler today on a Sunday and the gentleman that came out was very educational and professional and fixed the problem. The moment we made the phone call they dispatched the technician immediately and he was there very quickly. His name was Bob, and we are very grateful that they had sent him to check out the boiler issues. The education he provided about the system and how it is time to upgrade without seeming like a sales person was refreshing. Based on this visit alone, Petro oil has me for life as a loyal customer! Definitely recommend! read more

This rating is a follow-up to my original 5 Star Rating posted back in March of 2016. Once again, I was pleasantly contacted by Mr. David Cabral who provided superior Customer Service. It is this type of genuine concern for customers that makes me comfortable knowing I'm choosing the right Heating Oil Supplier!!! Petro is fortunate to have such a dedicated and loyal Team Leader. Terrible company to deal with. Was quoted a variable rate with a cap of 2.69 for the year with a contact. Just filled my tank and was charged 3.85. Called to complain and they said they never promised that with our contract. They were also no shows on our annual cleaning ( which was included in our $180 service contract) Can't wait to switch companies. read more

Do not use Petro Oil or Deblois Oil! Petro Oil is outrageously priced, greater than a dollar/gallon more than other companies. So when I called to say I would like to cancel my account with them, they were fine about it and they said they would refund the money in my account ($455.00). About a week later, we received a phone call from Deblois Oil saying they could give us a great price on oil ($1.10/gallon cheaper than Petro). So of course we agreed! Well, we have come to find out they are basically the same company! Deblois is the "generic" brand according to their salesman, although the oil gets delivered from the same trucks? And then they transferred the money they owed me to Deblois without my consent! I told them I wanted my money back and it has now been almost a month and I have not received my refund check! These companies are horrible, they are one and the same and it is incredible that Petro has been charging more than a dollar a gallon more for the exact same oil! They say the cost is for their "services." Well I called in September to have our furnace serviced and they told me the earliest I could have it cleaned would be March!!! Certainly, not "service" I find helpful in anyway. Avoid these two companies. They are the same and they are a total rip off and they do not care about good customer service at all! read more

My experience with Petro Home Services was very good. The salesperson, Brad S., was very informative and friendly. He was very responsive and timely coordinating the installation with the service manager, Bruce, who also contacted me to confirm the installation day/time. On install day...the first crew to arrive was to remove the old unit. They protected my carpeting and were very careful removing the old boiler. Second crew arrived (Dean & Keith)...I must say they are one of the best install teams I've seen. Worked together like they knew one another....actually, they do Grandfather/Grandson. I was impressed with the mutual respect they showed to each other and to me, the homeowner. The install process was very precise and very thorough all the way down to clean up. Thank you to the Petro Home Services Team! read more

I have been a customer of Petro for 14 years and in that 14 years I have become a senior citizen that they are well aware of, I know this because I have told them so every time I have had to fight with them to get my locked in fuel price for the year before they fill my tank. My year ends on February 28th this year and I have repeatedly, diligently tried to talk to a person there since January 28th, to set my new fixed price before it runs out on February 28, 2021. I have talked to two people there that finally answered the phone only to be told someone would call me soon to help me with the pricing. It is now 10 days later and I still have not received a phone call even after being told twice on the 5th of February that someone would call me as soon as they were off the phone. To this day they have not called me so I called them one last time this morning on February 6, 2021 and told them if they were not going to help me I was going to YELP and the Better Business Bureau to complain how terrible they treat their customers, and I as a senior citizen. The woman told me this morning that department was still on the phone so I told her my next call was to the BBB which I have already sent in the complaint and here I am on Yelp letting all of you know Petro Oil does NOT treat their customers with any respect what so ever especially SENIOR CITIZENS. They have me locked into their stupid one year contract that expires in December 2021. I think you may already know what I will be doing about that. But in the meantime, if they don't give me my fuel pricing this Senior Citizen will be going to all the news stations in Boston, MA. and Providence. RI. read more

For over forty years we have been a loyal customer of Petro Oil . For all but the last two years we paid the bill leaving no balance. Then we ran into financial difficulty and made an agreement to pay a f ixed ammount each month.Last year the agreement worked well and by Nov. there was a 0 balance. We entered the same agreement this year and paid as agreed but kept getting calls saying we were at risk of no longer receiving delivery. We referred them to the agreement each time which they acknowleged. However we were left without oil twice in the midst of winter. I then looked for other options and found that We had been paying between $1.65 and $1.25 more per gallon to Petro.(allowing for the fluction). We have a 600 gal tank and so I keep thinking if I had not chose Petro I would have been able to pay as we had before. So much for loyalty. read more

I was a customer of theirs for 2 years until today. I called in to ask about the Cap Price for this upcoming year and was told $3.24 a gallon, which was a savings of almost $.40 a gallon from the previous year!!! I was shocked because everyone else was almost a $1 cheaper. To which I was then told I could get $2.79 a gallon Cap Price. I told them to cancel my account, I am going with a local company and they offered me $2.44 a gallon Cap Price, which was still $.15 more than the local company I went with. What a Scam. The service plan is only $99.99 and the person who came out, in Feb 2015, to fix my burner in the dead of winter was top notch. Very helpful and he came out to my house at the end of something like a 14 hour shift to make sure I had heat and hot water. Very nice guy and answered all of my questions. The only issue was that it needed it to be cleaned and serviced, that's it. Which would have been fine if Petro hadn't cancelled the 3 appointments to have my burner serviced from June 2014 to the appointment 2 weeks before my burner stopped working.... Stay clear. Oh, and my father in law lives 25 minutes away and was paying $1 - $1.20 more a month from the same company during the 2015 winter. He had to call and fight to get a price every month. read more

terrible customer service, called to see if they could come out and see what the problem with me central AC was. spent 1/2hr with Peter, sales rep trying to get an appointment. The entire time he was trying to sell me a service plan. after the half hour of dickering, he final offered an appointment 3 weeks from the date of called. I thanked him and said I would try to find another contractor that could service sooner. he said to hold and he came back offering an appointment 2 weeks sooner. I called today, the scheduled day and confirmed they would be here between noon to 3pm, spoke to Diane who confirmed. at 4pm when no one showed, I called back and got a complete run around and was offered to be reschedule again. omg petro sucks especially a salesperson named Michael who tries to talk you into shit you don't need - like the family of four who occupied the house used less than average and that I as a single person according to their stats would use about the same and it would be easily $200 a month and they needed to do a check and fill right away - go you know what to yourself Petro read more

I had a bad experience with billing and customer service. I was told incorrect information regarding my account and not one manager reached out to me to discuss after having asked multiple times. The customer service people in New York need more training. All around horrible experience using them and will never use petro for an install or oil again. read more

My family and I moved into a new house that had a yearly service contract that was active through September 2016. While going through the process of purchasing the house we were told that there is a service appointment booked for shortly after we move in and the sellers will keep the appointment and put the plan in our name. When Petro came we had completely forgot about the appointment and we were on the way out of the house. The driver was completely professional and understanding, he told us to call and reschedule. When we called to reschedule we were told that the contract was closed once the owners moved out. This is strange because they showed up to service the boiler after they moved out. When they came for the scheduled service they were already aware that the original owners had moved out. Now began the pressure to sign a new contract. We called three different times the same day to try and set something up with them but they refused to honor the existing contract. Every person we talked to quoted us different prices for a new service contract, $199, $180 and $99. The ceiling price for oil was also different with every rep. The only thing that was consistent was the introductory price for the first fill up which was 1.90 a gallon. Their introductory rate is more expensive than most of the companies in the area which is alarming. The last call with them lasted around 90 minutes as we were repeatedly put on hold as the rep continually waited to speak with the manager. They were only concerned about getting us to sign a new contract and we never got an explanation that made any sense as to why they wouldn't honor the existing contract. I will gladly pay more for good reliable service. I would have let the existing contract go if they provided a reasonable explanation and had handled this more professionally without the pressure. This was a complete waste of time. For anyone considering Petro and all the complaints about poor customer service don't scare you away please compare your introductory rate to the competitors in the area before agreeing to any contract. I will be contacting one of the many small heating oil companies in the area. read more

Worst company around. I was a customer for 6 years and can tell you they have the lowest bussiness practices going. They will try and cheat you whenever possible. After paying off the balance due they charged my credit card nearly $1500. extra. When I requested a refund they said it would take at least five business days to process. Just cancelled service. Same story as many others - good first year - fair price, "free" service. Now, delivered price is higher than any quote on-line. And last service call resulted in 4 repeat visits to fix problem - that meant 4 mornings without heat while various "technicians" tried to solve the issue. Poor service, poor run-around. BBB rates them a "C". 90% negative complaints. Shop around - get better pricing and better service read more

For my junior year of college my four roommates and I rented a house off campus. We decided to go with petro oil for their home heating oil services. This was regrettably one of the biggest mistakes of my life. In the middle of the winter we ran out of oil right after Petro slipped a receipt under our door for an oil fill up. We were very confused how we could possibly be out of oil if they had literally just filled the tank. We contacted Petro to solve the issue, they sent out an employee to our house to assess the situation. First of all, the employee that was supposed to arrive no later than 8 pm, showed up at 11:30 at night. He confirmed with us that the oil tank was never filled. The employee was a nice man that was very honest and straightforward, he told us that there was a mistake and that there was no way the tank had been filled for it was completely empty. Petro's next step was to send out a truck to fill our tank (which also needed to be primed, for it had been fully depleted). We soon after received a bill in the mail for yet another fill up along with a hefty service fee for priming the tank. We were outraged and complained immediately. The individuals we were in contact with were not helpful at all and had no sign of giving an apology or making things right. At the end of our lease term we received an invoice that we owed an additional $400 on top of the fixed monthly installments we had been paying all year. When we contacted Petro they claimed the extra charge was for the oil that we actually never received. When we tried to come to a mature, fair agreement, they told us "prove it". I could not believe what I was hearing. Not to my surprise at this point Petro had on record the fill up that never happened, the fill up was later confirmed to be a mistake by their employee, for the oil had never came. Petro then claimed that they had absolutely no record of that service call, and told us an employee was never sent to our house. I was absolutely shocked to hear this. We must have seen the oil ghost! Petro completely took advantage of first time renters, who were a nice group of hardworking college students. I am absolutely amazed this company is still in business today. I would not be surprised to see Petro in a major scandal within the next 5 years. My advice to you is to completely steer clear of Petro, they are hands down the worst company I have ever had to deal with. read more

This company has one of the worst customer service departments I have ever dealt with. I have been a customer of theirs for 15 years, only in the last 2 years have I had problems. Funny in the last 2 years is when Petro has been buying small oil companies on LI and trying to become a monopoly. They have a very different attitude now. Basically I was over billed by a tremendous amount for 2 years. Every time I called them I got different answers, finally I decided to cancel the account and was told I would be charged a $400.00 cancellation fee. They said my contract stated my auto delivery was from August to August, It is now May and I have a full tank so therefore I don't need anymore oil between now and August, yet they are still going to bill me the $400.00. I don't think so. I have filed a BBB report and contacted Consumer Affairs. And if need be I'll see them in small claims court. Don't ever use this company for anything. BTW I found multiple friendly experienced and well priced oil companies on Long Island. read more

Think twice before signing up! I waited for two days for service, no show no update call. TAKE my advice call someone else.

They have the worst customer service! I did not renew my contract with them but they are still billing me for a new service contract with late charges! When I called them I was told they could come out to fill the tank. I stated over and over that I am not a customer of theirs any longer. The rep was rude and then called me back shouting that I was still a customer. I just hung up at that point. Hope I don't get anymore ridiculous bills! read more

Service for boiler maintenance may be comparable to others but at the expense of outrageous oil prices. My contract ceiling price protection is for $3.92 but contract states "it will vary based on market conditions", which means it should be comparable to others pricing. Well market conditions show $3.38-$3.65 for pricing but Petro continues to whack me $3.92 per gallon. When I call to complain they keep saying what great service they provide me. Well the only service I see is highway robbery on the price of my oil. They are definitely losing my business next year and they don't even seem to care. read more

We've had Petro for about 5 years, since we purchased our house. At first the service seemed reasonable with oil rates pretty comparable to the competition. We also had the furnace insurance plan. First year of service the furnace plan was $100, 5 years later $400. The explanation was that my $1,200 furnace has a $12,000 unchangeable insurance plan... Really??? I can purchase a new furnace for a fraction of the price they insure it for!! The final straw was our last oil fill-up. We were on a monthly payment plan, what they don't explain to customer is that although your on a payment plan you still get late fees due to the balance being on your account past 30 days... Our last oil fill-up cost us $4.75 a gallon when the competition prices were close to $2 less!!! After spending days attempting to negotiate a reasonable price the only explanation was "you're on a payment plan, the prices are higher". After deciding to cancel Petro's service completely I attempted to get my almost $400 back I had just paid 2 weeks earlier for re-instating the furnace plan, their comment was that there are no refunds and it's in the contract we signed. After asking for copies of this so called contract I signed, weeks later Petro miraculously refunds the full amount of the furnace plan and tries to negotiate a "fair" price per gallon that they originally over charged us on, only if we were to stay with them... We decided to leave Petro and fight the remaing balance with the Better Business Bureau... The absolute worse customer service and business I have ever been involved with, buyer beware... Petro will scam you and take you for every cent they have. There payment plans are a trap only to add late charge after late charge. Their "required" automatic delivery will drain your account over the winter with weekly visits to "top off" your tank when unneeded... Petro is a horrible company to do business with! read more

After reading several bad reviews on Petro Home Services I thought I would share a positive experience with this company. My son and daughter in-law purchased a home in 2014. The house was built in 1989 and had the original boiler. She got a quote from Petro and approved the installation of a new boiler. The techs from Petro installed the new system this week on 2/29/16. I found the techs to be great hard working men who knew their job and performed the installation with no issues. They do have the service plan and the company has performed well. read more

Please do not use this company! If Columbia Gas (or the service they use) tell you this is the company that will be coming out refuse them and request someone else. Had a horror show with them with tech coming out at end of day with no intention of doing the work and making up all this ridiculous things that we had to do before he could do anything. We knew then he just wanted to end his day. Had to fight to get someone else to come out but they finally listened (because even they could not believe what was relayed to them about the service call) and we had a reputable company come out and did the work WITH NO PROBLEM!. Just like it should have been in the beginning. I have read some of the other reviews on here and it seems it is ok if you get the right technician but you dont know who you will get. The company was the first to put in for the contract when Columbia Gas put it out there and then just sent one of their less competent employees. They know who this is because of the complaint that was put thru so I hope this person is no longer working there to continue to tarnish their reputation. read more

After reading all the comments it was deja vue !! I was a customer for a whole bunch of years with them. I had started heating with wood along with oil as the price had climbed to around $ 4.00 a gallon. I had checked with the office on when my next delivery was due. This was in April near the end of the cold weather. She told me it was sceduled for the following week. I told her to cancel that delivery as I didn't need it because my demand wasn't as high due to burning wood. She told me she would take care of it. This was on a Friday morning at around 10 a.m. I left there to do some other errands and was out for the rest of the day. That night when my wife came home, she came in with a bill from Petro, that she found on the garage door, for a delivery sometime that very day !!!! I couldn't beleive it ! This delivery that I had just told them that very day, that I didn't want, was for $ 550.00 worth of oil !! I was furious to say the least !! Of course I had to wait until Monday to go back to the office (closed on the weekend) and I was there as soon as they were open. After I went over the whole scenario again with the office person the reply that I got was that she couldn't get ahold of the driver and maybe that he just figured he was in the area and i might be due for a delivery...UNBELIEVABLE !! Such B.S. as the trucks have 2 ways in them and I doubt that the truck driver just decides to deliver when he feels like it. This is exactly what I told her and in return she got an attitude with me ! This oil delivery sucked up all my hard earned savings burning wood all winter, thanks to them. I told her that they should come back and suck that oil out of my tank. She said that they couldn't do that once it was delivered. I then told her to cancel my business with them immediately at which point her attitude became even worse that it already was. I will never understand why a company would treat a longtime customer this way. I was always on time with my payments and even had their " service plan " even though I thought it was way over priced. After dropping them I picked up a family run oil service and what a difference !! The company is people orientated, always reliable, and the oil was cheaper than Petro. Since then,I tell anyone who will listen not to go to that company. Unless you want to be treated like I and others were.... read more

Never again! Petro nice to you when you are setting up the account, but not very accommodating when you don't want to remain on the automatic fill schedule. I put Petro deliveries on hold the beginning of Summer because we planned on moving in the Fall. We left a credit balance on our account of $599.90 in case we had to orderr more oil in the Fall. One of our tanks leaked over the Summer and we are now out of oil. We are moving the end of November and so I called Petro to get 50 gallons delivered, which would hold us over until we move. I was told that the minimum was 150 gallons. I explained the situation to the gal. Then, I was told it could be 100 gallons. When I asked why, she said, "because if we deliver less than 100 gallons there could be a back up and spill." I said, that doesn't make sense. In the past 2 years, Petro has delivered to us 36.0 gallons, 42.4, 46.1, 60.1 and 95. Oh, she didn't like that. I said, your reason doesn't hold water. She replied, "well, that is my reason." Really? We've been Petro customers for YEARS and this how we get treated? That reason is bullshit and she knew it! Why they wouldn't want to deliver that amount and get to keep some of the credit balance we have is beyond me! I called the 800 # and asked for my full refund. There are plenty of other oil companies eager to do service. Petro needs to fix their customer service attitudes and be customer friendly!!!! read more
