Kennedy & 14th Esso

This Esso is the closest one from my home. It's roughly a seven-minute drive away. The station is…read moreon the southeast corner of Kennedy Road and 14th Avenue. With the current Circle K Gasino game, I got a voucher to get $1.50 off a minimum 30 L fuel fill-up. I have probably used a similar coupon a handful of times in the past. The catch is finding a gas pump that allows you to pay inside the Circle K store. It's not as easy as it sounds. I know that the Esso station on Parliament in Cabbagetown does because I've successfully redeemed a coupon there. There's another one, but I can't recall where it was. In Markham, is there such a place? I did some exploring yesterday. I wanted to try a new Esso station that I had never frequented on Woodbine Avenue, across from Costco. I pulled up to an available pump and looked at the screen. I could only pay at the pump. I couldn't redeem my coupon. I left the gas station, not buying a thing. It was weird, empowering, and fun. I took a chance and headed over to this gas station. It's small. I have been to the Circle K in the past to get peanuts. You can maybe pack ten people in this tiny store like sardines if you had to. This gas station also has a car wash. I pulled up to an available gas pump. It was my lucky day. I could either pay at the pump or go inside to pay. I did the latter and started fuelling. I did it handsfree while I cleaned my windshields with the squeegee a few feet away. This gas station is clean and nicely maintained. I headed inside. I was one of two customers. The man behind the counter was cheerful. I redeemed my coupon. I scanned it, but he needed to double-check the coupon and whether I had hit at least 30 L of gas. Everything checked out. I got my discount. Yay! I had my PC Optimum barcode on my phone scanned. I then paid with a credit card. Done! He wished me a great day. I reciprocated and walked out with my receipt. It was my first time fuelling my car at this station. I am more of a Petro-Canada customer. However, when you do see me at an Esso, I likely have a coupon and I'm attempting to use it. (127)

Never used their toilet but that's cause it's a very small station and I don't imagine the toilet being very girl friendly. Haha.

NEVER AGAIN. I went…read moreto this store for a simple tire swap last Friday: my summer rims and tires for my winter rims and tires. Probably the most straightforward and simple thing to get done on a car at a shop. I left my car with them for about an hour, which isn't that long, and paid the $40(inc. tax) happily and was on my way, job satisfactorily done... or so I thought. I didn't notice right away as I had the radio on, but as I left the next store on my trip, I noticed a vibrating, rubbing sound that was not there prior to my stop every time I applied my brakes froom about 30km/hr to 5km/hr. Unfortunately, it was late in the day and I had other things to attend to, as I no longer live in town and my time there is usually spoken for in advance. I resolved to take it back to have them look at it at the next available opportunity, which for me was Sunday afternoon.(Apparently this was a mistake.) Sunday rolls around and I make it back to this location, and tell the service center of my woes. The staff was very polite and took my car in, claiming they would do what they could to right what had happened. The technician, after about another hour an a half of waiting, eventually called me to the desk, at which point they told me they could not hear any noise and wanted me to show them what I was talking about. I went with the technician on a drive around the parking lot so he could reach the speed necessary to make the noise, and he acknowledged hearing it. At this point he said it seemed to be a brake problem, and I'd likely have to do a brake inspection to further determine the problem. Now, I had gotten my brakes (pads and rotors) serviced within the past year and have not been putting the kind of mileage on my car to warrant another servicing so soon, so red flags started going up for me. When we got back into the store, they put my car back up on the lift to have another look and the Service Manager(who did not identify himself as such at the time) came to talk to me. Without asking me what had happened, he advised me that he'd seen my car and that the tire swap had happened according to his specifications, and that there was no way possible that my issue had anything to do with the tire swap performed by his technician. I let him know that this could not be accurate, as the winter tires and rims had been on the vehicle before more than once and this is the first time I'd had an issue like this, which occurred right after his technician changed my tires. At this point he became extremely defensive and hostile and began to tell me that if I wanted my brakes inspected that I'd have to pay the $29.99 for the inspection, and then for any repairs necessary to correct the issue. I replied that I have a serious issue with that, and asked how he knew his technician did the tire swap correctly, without damaging anything along the way? He replied evasively, saying there's any number of things that could go wrong with the brakes of a car and that he would not be giving me a free brake inspection just to determine his guy did nothing. I asked to see the manager, and he tells me he is the Service Manager, and didn't have time to argue with someone trying to get a free brake inspection. At this point, I, begrudgingly, accepted and asked him to do the inspection. He then asked me if I wanted a brake inspection or to find out what the noise was. I told him I wanted the noise fixed. He then tells me, "Well that's going to be $45 to find out what the noise is, not including any repairs." Unhappy with this, I again agree and tell him to go ahead, to which he replies "I can't do this now, the earliest I can get you in is tomorrow." At this point I was extremely fed up with the run around I received and asked him to just give me back my car. He walked away without another word. I have to say that all the other staff in the building seemed a bit uncomfortable with the argument, as was I, but were extremely professional and as helpful as they could be. I have no idea how the service manager here got promoted to this position without learning how to deal with people properly. From my perspective, he was trying to get me to pay for a brake inspection the entire time he spoke to me, refused to believe that there was anything that his technician did wrong as well as to begin to find out what the problem was. He didn't even ask me what the story was. He came into the situation hostile and belligerent, and seemed to have no intention to actually help, only to get another sale out of me. I have since consulted another mechanic, who informed me that it's very likely the technician banged one of the wheels on the brake shield as he was performing the swap. It is not critical damage but still, the principal of the issue, and the horrible customer service that will prevent me EVER patronizing their automotive service center again. BEWARE!

On the southeast corner of Major Mac and Donald Cousens Parkway is this Pioneer gas station. A tidbit of information: Donald Cousens was the former Mayor of Markham. He held that position from 1994 till 2006. My parents liked him. I did, too, although I caught the beginning and end of his mayoral tenure. Naming this parkway after him was a nice touch. The gas price was cheaper than the posted price at a nearby Esso station by four cents a litre. I frequent the Circle K there. I immediately made a left turn to fill my car's gas tank here. There were a few customers pumping gas. I found an available gas pump. The problem was that I couldn't pay for gas at the pump. It was the case with all pumps that day. Luckily, the option to pay inside the store was available, so I did just that. I was at pump 8. When I was done, I walked into the convenience store. It's huge. It was nice to browse a bit before paying. There's a mini Country Style area. You can get coffee, slushies, hot chocolate, and more. There was a sign that said donuts, but I didn't see any in the display case. I love crullers from Country Style. Sadly, I didn't see any in the display case. I got a helpful man at the payment area. I said that I had gas to pay for at pump 8. I got my Journie barcode scanned for the first time. Husky got bought out by Journie at least a year ago, so I got my Husky rewards transferred over to Journie. I then paid with a credit card. Done! I thanked the man after he gave me my receipt. I headed to my car and continued my drive home. If you want cheap gas in the northeastern part of Markham, come here. It was an unexpected, pleasant find. I recommend signing up for Journie points, so you can get discounts on future gas, convenience store purchases, and more. (229)

At Kennedy and Highway 7, you have two Petro-Canada stations diagonally opposed. I know that Petro-Canada bought out all Sunoco stations years ago. I don't recall Kennedy and Highway 7 ever having a Sunoco. Out of the two gas stations, I frequent this one less. It is situated on the northeast corner of the intersection. Normally, I am travelling eastbound and stop by the other one. It's also easier for me to get home with the other one. I decided to give this neglected station a visit the other day. Gas was at 127.9. I had half a tank full. I decided to top it up. If you are looking for a fancy convenience store, car wash, and A&W's, you want the other Petro-Canada. The best part about this station is that you have what you need (gas and a small convenience store). It wasn't all that busy when I dropped by after work. I filled up and left. No muss. No fuss. The station is clean. It's all good. (297)

On Saturday night, I was out to redeem a couple of Circle K coupons. I like the Circle K attached to this Esso station, because it has Frosters and Polar Pops, along with some hard-to-find items at the time, such as Fuze and Pepsi Zero. My car needed gas. It occurred to me that I had never visited the Esso station. Circle K and Tim Hortons? Yes. There were a few gas pumps that were available when I got here on a Saturday evening at around 7:30 pm. Gas was at 115.2 when I got here. Yay! I had just driven by the Shell station that had gas at 116.1. I was happy. I had a empty Starbucks cup that I needed to throw out. There was a garbage receptacle next to the gas pump, which was handy. At the gas pump's screen, I entered my phone number that was associated with my PC Optimum card. I tapped my credit card. I then selected the type of fuel and I started the handsfree fuelling process. Fuelling handsfree is awesome, especially when it's cold outside. I love it. When my car's gas tank was full, I put everything away and got my receipt. Done! I locked my car and headed inside Circle K to redeem my coupons. This gas station does have a car wash. One car was using it when I left to head home. It was a perfect evening to grab drinks and fuel my car. I'd fuel here again. (499)
