    Lomo Saltado
    Alex F.

I was surprised to find a Peruvian restaurant in Ottawa and of course, I had to see how it compared to my Mom's cooking. I decided to get lomo saltado as my main with a ceviche dish for my friends and I to share. For those not familiar with Peruvian food, lomo saltado (literal translation meaning "salted steak") is a Chifa stir-fry steak dish served with rice and sliced potatoes/fries. Ceviche is a seafood dish usually with raw fish cured in citrus/spices and both are absolutely delicious. It wasn't too busy when I went so I can't really comment on the service other than that it was decent. However, the food was quite delicious. It immediately brought me back to being a kid and getting to eat this all the time. They also had Inca Cola which is a staple in most Peruvian households. Although, nothing can ever compare to my how my Mom prepares Peruvian food. I'll say that this was some of the best Peruvian food I've had outside of my parent's kitchen and that I would recommend it to anyone in the area looking to see what the cuisine has to offer. My only complaint would be the ceviche portion is too small for what you pay but that doesn't change how great it tastes!

My visit to this restaurant was literally a year in the making. I had sent a message to my half-Peruvian friend to tell him I was going to a Peruvian restaurant, and to make some suggestions. The message was dated last winter! Shame on me for not visiting sooner! Because the appetizers were so cheap, we ordered one each. We got the tamal (stuffed cornmeal), Papa a la Huancaína (potatoes with cheese sauce), and a chicken empanada (stuffed pastry). The first two were just kind of "ehn" for us. I'm not sure if that's because of the way they were prepared, or they didn't suit our taste. But we all agreed that the chicken empanada was AMAZING. I noticed that they actually sell them for take-out too, so that's definitely worth another visit. We were very happy with our entrees. One friend got the Cerviche Tradicional (talapia salad) which came with some really interesting sides, including cancha, which are basically Peruvian corn nuts. My other friend got the Chaufa Rice with Fish. I got the Lomo Saltado, a steak stirfry with rice and fried potatoes. If you're looking to try something new, I do recommend this place. Keep your party intimate though, because the restaurant is really small.

Enjoyed the all you can eat ceviche special event. Allowed us the opportunity to try and compare directly the variations of ceviche that was available. Looking forward to the next special event evening.

I heard about this restaurant from a friend of mine and decided to take the whole family here. The restaurant is right on Montcalm with free parking at the side and has a nice ambience. Since it was our first time here, we decided to try numerous different dishes. The beef and chicken empanadas were homemade and A+. Their chicken, beef, pork and rice dishes were all excellent and very generous in their portions which made my kids happy for lunch the next day. Dessert was tres leches which was also a hit. The owner and head chef even came to our table. If you'd like to try Peruvian food I'd highly recommend you come here, literally just a few minutes over the bridge from downtown Ottawa. My family and I will be back.

Long story short the food was extremely flavourful, with interesting/unique ingredients, well prepared and each accompanied by a truly delectable sauce/dressing. We got the ensalada And the rockfish taradito And also the antichuchos The service was great and the restaurant was spacious and nicely decorated. The menu offered a lot of variety with fair prices. The dessert menu was appealing too but we didn't try anything. We will be back to try everything else!

Upon entering, I was greeted by a cheerful young lady who seated and served me. She was able to answer questions about the menu and give recommendations. The ambiance is not too formal. High ceilings and light colours. Bright and upbeat. The menu posted outside was slightly different from the menu I was given. I had looked forward to the squid, but it had been replaced by smelt. I didn't feel like getting that, so went with crab instead. My meal was: - Causa de cangrejo starter - La cholita cocktail - Chocolucuma 2.0 dessert Amuse bouche and petit four were complimentary. The blue crab starter was delightful -- such a good mix of textures and flavours, from the smooth potato below to the bouncy succulent slightly sweet crab meat to tangy sauce, and the crunchy thin fried sweet potato on top! I did bite into a few crab shell pieces though, nothing super sharp or hard, but a bit unpleasant and unexpected. The cocktail was pleasantly sweet and sour. (Given the decadence of the dessert, maybe I should have gone with something more crisp and dry.) The lava cake had a molten centre, as expected, and the lucuma on top added a rich toasted caramel flavour. The meal was leisurely and relaxing. The portions were a bit on the small side, but the richness of flavours tired out my palate, so I felt like I'd had enough food. I would love to visit again, next time with more people.

We also got 3 traditional paellas to share. It was very flavourful but the rice is cooked very very al denté which I'm not used to. I'm not sure it was cooked this way even when I had it in Barcelona. Overall though the flavours were there and the portions were good. However, we ordered 3 of the same paella and we noted to them that one of the three was a lot smaller for some reason. We weren't sure if they had made a mistake. To our surprise, the server (maybe owner?) was not surprised at all and brushed it off, staying that it is the same portion in a much smaller pan. Honestly we had more than enough, but it was kind of awkward that they serve different size paellas for the same price. It seems a bit sketchy like they would change the portion on you depending on the group size? Usually when you order something for a set price, it's a standard size. Besides this, the service was good.

Other ones (calamari, zucchini frito, torilla espanola, and patatas bravas) were quite salty, not my favorites. Will I go back? Probably, but will just stick with a glass of wine and simple (non-fried) dishes.
