However be decisive, i got reprimanded by the dad of the household for being too indecisive with my orders . I was very happy to find this restaurant in Ottawa after staying like 10 days eating sushi, shawarma, steak and rotisserie chicken. As you can see, the restaurant is in Gatineau but it takes only 15 minutes driving from downtown Ottawa. The restaurant has like 10 tables and it can accommodate groups of 12 with no problem. When I went the service was a little slow but maybe it was because they've just opened and it was Thursday. The menu is small but the plates served represents very good the culinary diversity from the Peruvian cuisine. For appetizers I suggest the "Causa de Pollo" and if you are an adventurer, try the "Anticuchos de corazon". For entrees they have plates with beef, lamb and seafood so you can choose. To drink you can ask for "Chicha Morada" (made with purple corn) or the classic Inca Kola. For dessert they have like 4 options but the best thing for me... Alfajores, but not just any alfajores... Lucuma Alfajores!!!!!. It was the first time I heard about them so I had to try. They were really good, a mix of dulce de leche with the real lucuma pulp. We have driven in the past to Montreal just to eat at a Peruvian Restaurant. Restaurant Peruvién AMAZONAS was recently reviewed in the Ottawa Citizen. A complete Peruvian menu which includes but is not limited to: tamales, empanadas, anticuchos, and ceviche. The restaurant is in a quaint converted house that is in an area of Aylmer where many of the houses are right on the street only separated by a sidewalk. Do you know if you like Peruvian food? Most people (maybe not you) tend to assume that all Latin American food is spicy. Me, I like the heat, but Peruvian cuisine is not/not spicy. It is rich, flavourful and delicious. Almost every ingredient you encounter will be familiar but maybe in new combinations (such as empanadas - corn flour turnovers, filled with meat, hard boiled egg and a few olives and raisins). Amazonas is a great introduction to Peruvian food. A simple and welcoming family-run restaurant in Aylmer, about 15 minutes from d/t Ottawa. Start with the Pisco Sour, the national drink of Peru - tastes a bit like a margarita but more refined. Don't skimp on the appetizers. We had papa rellena. Like the aforementioned empanada but made made with mashed potatoes wrapped around meat filling (What's better than mashed potatoes? Deep-fried mashed potatoes.) The papa a la huncaina also looked good - a potato cake with pepper and cheese sauce. I am huge fan of ceviche (raw white fish marinated in lime juice). At Amazonas this is served as a main dish but next time I would order it as an appetizer to share. The texture and flavour of the fish were excellent. The other main dish we tried was seco cordero, a tender braised lamb stew served with rice and yummy slow-cooked beans. Portions are super generous and you'll encounter lots of interesting sides to try: cassava, yam, and crunchy homemade corn nuts. Too bad we were too full to try the desserts. You know, I lived in Peru for two years - I worked there, I visited everything there is to see, but more than anything, I ate ALL the food that was available to me. Best food ever! That being said, the Peruvién Amazonas restaurant serves the best Peruvian food I've ever had outside of Peru! And I've tried every restaurant I could get my hands on, in Quebec, Ontario, British-Columbia and a few places in the States. We had the anticuchos and the ceviche: both authentic and incredibly tasty. We also enjoyed a few pisco sours and some chicha morada: amazing! The service was on point and the restaurant, set in a house, is very welcoming. A family-owned business, mother from Trujillo, father from Lima: our waiter, their son, told me a bit about them. All in all, I recommend the stop and the drive if you ever feel up to an adventure! read more

My boyfriend and I went to this restaurant to try something new. We had never had Peruvian food before. We had the cassava with cheese sauce entree, which was very good. For mains we had the lamb stew and the chicken and sampled each other's dishes. We both enjoyed everything, very tasty. The service was attentive and pleasant. Excellent food but a scammer boss. I ordered for more than $100 in take away for a friendly evening. A dish was missing when I arrived home. I called back and said I could pick it up (second trip) for more convinience. Once in the square, the boss tells me that's not true. For the record, the cook I had spoken on the phone told me to come back for the missing dish. As there was no detailed invoice provided with the first order, I showed him the credit card receipt. He persisted in his refusal. A great example for losing customers. And a wasted evening. read more
