Peter's Fish Market probably the busiest business in Sydney's Fish Market. I strongly suggest you avoid coming on the weekends. Not worth your while to fight with all the tourists for everything. I was here on a Sunday and a Monday, what a difference like night and day! Stay far far away from any of the cooked food at the hot table. Those looks good but had been under the heated lamp for the longest time. We sampled a few sashimi raw seafood: Scampi (meh), abalone ((meh) but just looks so good for the photos! We really enjoyed the uni, scallops and oysters aburi though. A little cheesy but quite unique offerings and it tasted great!

The sister and I bought an assortment of things here. We got some OYSTERS, which were full body pieces, but they were more on the dry side. I was expecting more moisture from my oysters and they were not as sweet as I would've liked. I did like the piece of uni on top because they were very creamy. The ikura added some saltiness to the oysters and the caviar had a gritty texture and also had a salty flavor. The SUSHI pieces that were ordered were fresh. I specifically liked the scallops because they had a smoky flavor and the texture was firm, but not tough. The salmon was fresh and sweet. They're not as buttery and oily as the one in the states, but still very good. The unagi was sweet and had a meaty texture. The only gripe I have on the sushi and sushi roll that we ordered was the amount of rice that came with it. It was just too much, but overall flavors were good and fresh. We also got some fried seafood and the flavor on that was the best! I really liked the salmon. It was spiced and seasoned so well. The salmon skin was really crisp and it was sweet and herbal. The fried calamari was so good. I don't usually like fried food, but the calamari was seasoned perfectly and it was so fresh. Once again, the scallop was on point with its smokiness and firm texture. The only thing I didn't like was the fries. They were too soggy and the seasoning was bland. My belly was really happy after this meal. The food was great! I definitely want to come back and order some more.

Good food, cooked so simple just to highlight the fresh ingredients. Sweet Chilli Prawns, $4 each. Calamari rings ( crumbed ) and salt and pepper squid is $9.5 White bait cost you $10 but loaded full of yumminess! I can sense the lemon pepper seasoning on the whitebait. Happy with the quality

One of the most nicest fresh fist stores at the fish markets i've been to! Everything is all neatly packing in and dare i say clean area. I love how you can pick what sort of sashimi you want. Can get busy especially if you are waiting on purchasing some fresh fish to go eat outside in the seagull infested area lol . Prob better to do a takeway and enjoy it at home in peace and quiet away from crowds and birds!

When I was about 11 I remember waiting in line at Peter's to get some fish with my family and a really fat man came out and tripped and he dropped his take away container of baby octopus that he'd just purchased. He scooped it back up and he kept walking. Children die in third world countries, on the streets of our own towns and cities. Starving to death and suffering various illnesses and diseases, but I remember this incident like it was yesterday, such was the empathy I felt for this man who dropped his octopus. It was probably $8, he didn't seem to care, but it got to me, and even now as I look back to this day, my heart is heavy and I am irrationally torn up about this flustered overweight individual whose lunch graced the pavement if only for a second. I've since been back to face my demons, to expunge these feelings of sorrow and despondency, why do I care so much? Why does it hurt? I've been back, and I can't shake it. Those are the formative years. I bought some fish, and it was good fish. I took the fish from the shop without incident and I sat at a table on the grass, right by the waters edge and I ate, and I mused and I tried to decipher what it all meant. That man and his dirty octopus. Horror stories aside. They do sell some really nice fish.

The lines are long and it's difficult to find a seat if you're there at the same time as those tour bus groups. Other than that, the food is pretty good. The garlic shrimps is where it's at.

We had the oysters and they were absolutely amazing. The sashimi was alright but the abalone was beyond horrible, it was tough and super chewy. Service was horrendous. It was only 3.45 and they wanted to kick us out of the place like so bad because they wanted to clean up.

    Fresh fish on display.

Peter's Fish Market is located at the famous Sydney Fish Markets in Pyrmont. I only tried it because my father (a seafood connoisseur) recommended it to me. It was like he was passing down a secret traditional family recipe. It has the best fish cocktails, he whispered. Sure, sure it does, Dad, I replied, humouring him. Of course I had to try it, and he didn't lead me astray. The fish cocktails were so tasty I wouldn't hesitate in suggesting that even people who don't like fish would enjoy it from Peter's. I also tried the garlic prawns, which were nice but too lukewarm for my liking, and the BBQ octopus, good flavours but a little tough. I have to reiterate that the shining light here is the fish cocktails. That, and a nice cold beer down on the wharf, is just the way I like to spend my lunchtime on a sunny Sydney day.

Platter for two at Peter's Fish Market

Peter's Fish Market is easy to find in the density of the fish market, with its white walls. It attracts a lot of people, so you can expect a bit of a waiting line. But in my opinion, the food is worth the wait. Peter's fish market sells beautiful fresh fish and a good variety of cooked fish. There is a sashimi stand on the right hand side for those who want raw fish. At the back, you will find a wide range of cooked fish, shells and other seafood. Customers can either select what they want individually, with fries, rice or salad on the side, or get platters to share. My family and I got platters for two. They are generously sized and garnished, and contain quite a bit of different seafoods. It's the ideal way to taste a bit of everything. Pretty much all of it was good and quite filling, except for one piece of lobster that I found a bit dry. Overall, the whole family was delighted by the food. What adds to the experience is the possibility to eat outside of the market right next to the water. Strongly recommended to seafood lovers! :)

One of the largest and most comprehensive shops inside the Sydney Fish Markets. Great selection of pretty much anything you can think/dream of! Prices are pretty much the same within the market. It may not be the cheapest but it's very convenient.

Not many people can afford to pay for parking at Sydney fishmarkets or make a special trip to Pyrmont to buy fresh fish. This place brings the fish to you! When you walk through the plastic flaps and into the giant cool room, it's evident what is for sale. Fresh fish and all different kinds of seafood lines the walls, so close you could touch it. But you don't, because there are people in gumboots, gloves and hairnets waiting to pick out the produce of your choice. There are people in the back gutting fish for the shop, so if you want to buy something whole, they can fillet it for you on the spot. To get an idea of price, the most recent visit I bought salmon cutlets for about $18 per kilo. A bit cheaper than the salmon fillets at $24 per kilo. Beats supermarket prices in the salmon stakes by at least $10 and makes eating fresh fish an affordable habit. If going at Christmas or New Year time, or any other holiday period be prepared to wait in a queue outside. Then be prepared to take out a whole garbage sized bag full of seafood for your holiday celebrations. Faros Bros is always busy and at super busy times there is a ticketing system. Parking is a bit hairy, with only 6 or so spaces in front of the shop, and on street parking a little difficult. There are now more spaces on the other side of the road, but take care when looking for a park as it's in a one way street with cars crossing from one lane to the other depending on which direction they are going.

The unlucky Crustacea are my flavour of the month right now, after I discovered how easy it is to make your own Singapore chilli crab sauce, which I admit I I have been craving after since I went to Jumbo's in Singapore earlier this year. (There is a great SBS food video and recipe that's easy to search for, if it's up your alley too) Googling for seafood outlets that are on my way home from work, I found the yelp reviews straight away. Easy for me to get to when swinging home through Marrickville. It's true you wouldn't know it was a seafood shop from the outside, but the fact you can very rarely get a spot in their tiny car park is testament to the fact a lot of people shop here. Park on the opposite side of the street to avoid the frustration of squeezing in. Think of something from the great deep blue that you can munch on and they probably have it here. Oysters, all of the Oysters!. Scallops on or off shell. Cooked yabbies - make yer own crawfish pie! Thinking I might do that next time I go. Fish of all species, Prawns cooked or raw, Octopus, Squid, and the one thing I came for Mud Crab. They have 2 tubs, one for boys and one for girl mudcrabs. I'm not up on the ethics of Mudcrab choosing, so I went for the biggest one. That sucker was alive and kicking. Trussed up of course, but that's the thing about crab.. fresh is best and you have to dispatch that little beggar on your own. She cost me $19. and she was delicious. There is a ticket system to get served, but for some reason I got bumped up the queue. I dont know if there were any tickets left, but the staff were immediately helpful and attentive. Prices seem pretty good, and everything looked fresh as a daisy. I dont even remember there being that fishy fish shop smell. Faros Brothers is totally worth of my half century review. If you're a local, go and see them the next time youre in need of a seafood fix I dont think you'll be disappointed.

I like the filleted fish but it is more expensive than the whole fish and the best tip here is to find the fish you want and get them to filet the whole thing - then you get the 'whole fish' price which can be as little as half the cost of the filleted price. Of course the weight of the head and bones is lost but it is quite a savings and you know it is probably a bit fresher, too. If you are into some of the more exotic seafood they have a great selection as well - I found a few different types of octopus and clams.
