Have to give this a rating of 5 because they deserve it. Have eaten here numerous times over the past few years but this is our first one since COVID. Peter's is still around and booming for one thing. Second is they have barely increased their prices as compared to everyone else on that Gold Coast!!! We arrived and there was still a line out the door if the fish market at 4:00PM. They shut down the kitchen at 7:00PM. Remember this is a fish market. They had added many more picnic benches that kind of line the street and have a few at the end of the little street overlooking the water. So, you pick out your seafood, stand in line and when it's your turn you tell them how you want it cooked. We ordered a meal that consisted of 7 large fried shrimp(crumbled prawn cutlets)and order of fries and a large bottled soda. Total check was $24 AUDs....about $16US. Our number was quickly called and we retrieved our food. Sat outside and had a delightful late afternoon lunch/early dinner. The shrimp were perfectly cooked. And the fries were plentiful and nicely seasoned with salt. Both the shrimp and fries had a nice crisp. Remember this is a fish market. Service is great if you are ok standing in line for a boating to order. Staff is there willing to help Seafood is described as to type and labeled whether it is freshly caught or has been previously frozen. What more does one want. Highly recommend even though I shouldn't because the place is already always packed. Remember this is casual dining and it is simple! Enjoy! read more

The fish and chips here is sooo good! One of the best fish and chips places I have ever tried! The batter to fish ratio is perfect. Some fish and chips places have a super thick batter which overpowers the fish which is something I always worry about. I have also found that some fish and chips have a weird aftertaste (possibly from the beer) but Peter's fish and chips was so light and no weird after taste at all! Definitely recommend! The chips are also nice and crispy and they give a good amount. Only downside is that ketchup (or tomato sauce as they call it here) is extra! There is ample seating outside so we enjoyed our food outside the store. read more

Rustic walk-in seafood market and restaurant Positives - The grilled swordfish special was exceptional as were the chips that came with. They had a sparkling lemonade in the chill chest that was tasty, not too sweet, and complemented the fish nicely. Also, I managed to snag an end seat on a huge 'surfboard' table by trees in the shade...which made for a quite pleasant lunch spot in summer on the Gold Coast. Negatives - Pretty much everything else. The lobster was horrible. Ridiculously overcooked and tough as rubber it was a complete waste of money and left unfinished. There were no condiments for the fish or chips that I could find, the fries were stronger than the plastic fork, and napkins only made an appearance late in the visit. And the whole 'hold your ticket, fork, drink, and lobster while you wait (seemingly forever) for the fish and chips to arrive got old real fast. Overall - It's worth coming here for the fish and chips but everything else should be avoided. And don't order the 'fish of the day' but rather select from the quite excellent selection of fish on ice...and then to ask for it grilled or fried (breaded, crisped, or both). Avoid the lobster. I could tell the oysters and mussels should be avoided from just looking at them...but a tablemate's revulsion at her oysters confirmed this. They had fresh crab that looked like it might be tasty...but without metal implements I couldn't see any way to eat most of the meat. read more

This joint was recommended by a local, and we found it enjoyable enough to visit twice within the same travel period. They have a spectrum of different fresh fish and crustacean on ice that you can select for cooking. I believe the methods offered were grilled, batter fried, or crust fried. I had both the batter and crust, and if you're looking for your typical fish and chips, I would recommend the batter fried. The chip servings are generous to say the least, and might require a few dipping sauces to get variety. Drinks and dipping sauces are all sold separately for less than $1 AUD. The seating can get packed fairly quickly as there were only about 5-6 seating boats, however a good amount ordered for takeaway. I found the experience nostalgic of Lent fish fry's and overall pleasant. Swing by if you have the chance to explore this dope city. read more

Disappointed compared to Sydney Fish Market since this is only 1 store with the selection small relative to Sydney Fish Market. On an absolute basis, it is so-so, but I would prefer not to go back there. We ordered the "set-menu" with the calamari and small pieces of fried fish. Wasn't that good. The whole uncooked pieces of fish slices and whole pieces of uncut fish looked super fresh. We should have paid-up and got a whole piece of sliced fresh fish and had them fry it up instead. Although the food was somewhat disappointing, sitting by the water's edge eating the fish and chips is great. Price was/is so-so, but I guess it is expected given lots of tourist come by here. Walking around the marina before or after the meal is great. Better yet, check out the fishing boats beside Pete's. I asked the folks working on the boats, and they tell me they get back at about 8am with the fresh catch. read more

This is one of the most famous fish and chip shops on the Gold Coast. And considering that it is next door to Palazzo Versace, it is also one of the most expensive. It operates differently to other fish and chip shops in that you pick and bag your own fresh fish filets and seafood from the display buffet and then line up at the counter and pay for the weight of the items plus a cooking fee. Simple, no nonsense seafood with surprising variety of choice. Great location close to the waterfront. You can walk up to the counter and order no-fuss fish and chips, with whatever the fish of the day happens to be. The standard list of battered saveloys/pineapple/calamari/scallops/oysters were also offered. The real winner for me was the wide variety of fish fillets available as an alternative to the fish of the day. Super fresh, pay by weight, and choose battered, crumbed or grilled cooking methods. This made for a far more interesting outcome. I went for grilled (healthy me!), and it was surprisingly juicy with no trace of overcooking. I had to deduct a star for the fresh prawns that were below average quality - mealy textured, rather than crisp and sweet. Sydney Rock oysters (already shucked) looked old and dried out. read more

This is one of the best fish and chip shops on the Gold Coast... as long as you order correctly. If you order the standard fish and chips options, you'll probably get a standard fish and chips experience. However, if you pick any of the fresh fish options, or even better, the marinated fish/prawns/scallops, you're in for a real treat. I highly recommend the grilled, marinated prawn sticks, they are so fresh, and SO tasty. The main problem is that you'll definitely have to wait unless you arrive super early, people know that the fish and chips are good here, so you'll be waiting in a huge line for sure. By the by, it's actually a pretty amazing fish market. The selection is varied, and you don't have to wait if you're just buying fish to take home. Considering most of the seafood comes straight off the trawler, straight onto ice... it's pretty amazing produce. Just make sure you buy local, there's a couple of imported items out there to pad out the selection, but why bother when you can get the freshest, tastiest stuff here anyway? read more

The hype around this place over the coast is incredible but I was majorly let down. Marketed on fresh I found my fish tasteless and chewy like it had been frozen. Couldn't even eat the chips due to half a container of salt emptied on them and my potato scallops were pretty much just pockets of deep fried batter. My husband and I are from Hollywood and every time we come to Australia we are itching to get up to the gold coast to have their amazing calamari and GREAT RAW Salmon & Tuna! Was treated to lunch here by a friend who promised me it was the best I would ever have so expectations were high. I opted not to get a piece of fish and just try a bit of his and when he broke it in half I knew I was going to love it. It was beautiful and tender, fresh and cooked well. The calamari was delicious and I didn't have to grind my teeth to bite through it like the cheap rubber crap you sometimes score in place of calamari. The scallops were huge and delicious. Everything was so fresh. Hardly ate any of the chips at all because I was so stuffed on seafood but they were pretty damn good too. Expect to wait. I mean, the joint has a security guard that doubles as a door man trickling people through so it's definitely not a quick process by any means. Don't expect a seat. They have a large patio seating area and some tables across the street. My suggestion is to go down to the end near the water. We scored a table right away with a lovely view and no crowds. Don't expect to find parking easy either. But does anything truly good ever come easy? No. It doesn't. Enjoy :) read more

Yes during peak times you will have to wait but pre organise and go at least 15mins before mid day and you will not have to wait, plus you will always find fresh prawns from the trailer.
