Ever since the new manager Cindy started running the store they have really turned around with great customer service and getting new products in there like those canned cocktails Cutwater and Nutrl! Possibly the cleanest, well cared for liquor store in NY. Notice the woodwork- that's all Peter's own craftsmanship. There's wide selection of popular wine n liquor selections at great prices. Cindy is now managing the store full time since 2022 - she's lovely and helpful. It's a cute little neighborhood shop. Happy customer, will be returning. Now that it's under new management, this little place has become my neighborhood go-to! Cindy is always so helpful when you need to find just the right wine for the occasion and is such a sweetheart as is the young lady who works on Sundays. The vibe is much lighter now which somehow makes the place feel bigger, more relaxed and more welcoming. The selection is still pretty good for a tight space and there are plenty of decent deals to be had. I've been to a few tastings there (usually on Fridays from what I can tell) and have left with some great recommendations for the future as well as a decent buzz (LOL!). read more

HA. I thought it was just me. I stopped patronizing this place after the woman at the register yelled at me one night for my apparent cardinal sin of showing up less than 10 minutes before closing. Hello, it's New York City and sometimes we ring the bell at 9:52 because we need another bottle of wine. She berated me (because she could have been closing since there were "no customers"); eventually I said "I'M A CUSTOMER!" and I was so offended by the whole event that I didn't go back for a few months. The other people who work there are lovely, but if you can't at least be moderately polite, don't be surprised when people stop showing up. There are places within a couple blocks where people are nicer - and you get loyalty points! - (oh hay wine stop), and there are places nearby that are cheaper. Life's too short to get yelled at for wanting to buy wine at 9:52. read more

Fine selection of products here but the woman working is so rude! I went there at about 5pm on a Saturday. There is a doorbell you need to ring in order to get in (I get it-safety first!), after ringing the doorbell I could see her standing there, staring at me. I checked the business hours-they were open-I waved, smiled and pointed to the door, and she rolled her eyes at me, opened the door, and huffed--like I was inconveniencing her by shopping at her wine store! She started at me the entire time I picked out my wine, and then threw my change on the counter after paying (she also didn't say one word to me after several attempts 'Hi,' 'How much?'-just pointed to the register, 'thank you!). I just don't know why you would open a store to be rude to customers? Plenty of other wine/liquor stores that appreciate the business! read more

Haha no but seriously the lady behind the counter is the absolute worst. And I say this as a person who doesn't really care too much for the hyper friendly types who always want to talk your ear off. But you won't even get so much as a hello out of this one. She takes it to the absolute opposite extreme of overly friendly and obnoxious customer service and doesn't budge an inch. Two stars if only because when she is in a good mood (and by good mood I mean "doesn't take her forever to buzz you in") you can be in and out within a minute, because the store is usually completely empty as people with actual self respect seem to avoid her like the plague. read more

Barely a two star review. This place is right around the corner from me and I've been there a handful of times. The selection is pretty varied and wide and the price is just right. But just like the other reviewer, holy crap are they rude. I've walked by a few times and the hours say they open at noon. They are never open at noon. Okay, no big deal. How often are people buying liquor that early right? Well, the fact that I had called to check if they were open and the lady rudely picks up the phone and rudely yells that they are as if it's an inconvenience to them is disgustingly rude. Considering that Astoria's gentrifying quickly and there are a million wine/liquor stores opening around it might do them some good to be good to their customers if they want to stay in business. I only gave them two stars just because they so far, aren't as expensive as the slew of new wine/liquor stores around the block. read more

I am so disgusted with this place. I've been there several times over the last few years because I literally live a half a block away. As others have said, the woman who works there is miserably rude, but I'm sad to say I've given into the convenience of the location more times than I should. I've spent many hundreds of dollars here in the past couple years, and they know me well. Today, I bought a bottle of wine, and realized there was a hole in the bag when my wine bottle crashed into many pieces about 10 steps outside the shop. I immediately went back in, showed the broken bag and asked if they would allow me to get another bottle. The woman told me she would not give me another bottle because it was against policy. I pushed back, and after calling her boss, she told me they needed to see the broken pieces of the bottle, to prove that I hadn't taken the bottle home and drank it (in 15 seconds? I'm not that talented). So I literally went outside to pick up the broken pieces off the street, dropped them on the counter, and was told they would give me $2 off. I declined the "generous" offer and decided never to set foot in that place again. Go to Astoria Wine & Liquor on Broadway. They are very polite, very helpful if you need suggestions, have wine and liquor tastings, support local artists and have a rewards program. I will gladly walk the extra few blocks out of my way from now on. read more

I had thought that this woman did not like me one bit since I often made her get me my bottle because I had a backpack on (one day she asked me I could go get it myself but I am claustrophobic) and the store is so small to manuever in. She does make the interaction infriendly and I always hope I see the younger cashier. DO NOT GO TO THIS Liquor store! Rude! Charged my card for 2 bottles, printed a receipt, and told me she didn't charge me. I asked to see the receipt showing $0 since she swiped my card - but she refused. Then told me to wait so she could do her work. She then proceeded to just stand there. When I said, "am I good to go?"- she screams "NO! I said I didn't charge you!" Not sure what her idea of work is but considering I was the only one in the store, she could have just rung me up and sent me on my way instead of screaming at me. Clearly I will not go back - I suggest you stay clear. read more

As the other reviewers have pointed out, the woman who works here is very rude. She has an angry frown permanently etched into her face, and she never replies to you when you say "hello!" or "how are you?" The entrance (which unlike every other store on the street is locked and requires a buzz in if your appearance is deemed trustworthy) is covered with signs telling you all of the things you can't do when you enter. Last time I was there she yelled at me when I asked her what sizes of vodka she sold. There are at least three other great wine stores on Broadway just a short walk away that have great selections and great customer service. Don't waste your money supporting this business. read more

I think it's just hilarious as I sit reading all the negative reviews about the old, sour, angry woman owner of this store. I've been coming here for as long as it's been open, and only when I'm too lazy to walk to Broadway or 36th. It's convenient and quick. They have a nice selection with fair prices. It's also clean and organized. Plus, I usually know exactly what I want because most know we can't expect suggestions at this place. For years, I thought she just disliked me but from conversations with neighbors of mine, it's clear that the woman who owns this shop is just a curmudgeon. What I do is kill her with kindness and a smile when I walk in, "Hi, how are you?" "Cold outside right"? "Busy today"? "I really like this wine, it's good. You like it"? Lol, doing that keeps me in a good mood and prevents me from being miserable like her. It sort of freaks her out, too. I sometimes get a forced smile. One time, I walked in and she says to me, "I order the wine you like. Now we have it", and went to pull it off the shelf for me. I prefusely thanked her with a smile and bought it. Although, we are "cool" she still isn't warm and fuzzy with me. Sometimes, I'm also not in the mood; so I run in, get what I need, pay, and bounce. No obligations to chit chat, so sometimes it works to my benefit. Overall, it is pretty unfortunate that she's so offputting and nasty with her clientele, especially in this neighborhood where in just 5 minutes you walk to to a different wine shop and be inundated with hospitality. You also don't have to ring a bell to get into any other places unless you're in the hood. This is not the hood, woman. I sometimes think, depending on her mood, she purposely makes customers wait and ring a couple of times. Grrr. read more

Yep. Just like the other reviewers, this woman that runs the shop is just NASTY. She must hate Americans or something, but she is outright nasty. I grew up in Astoria and am aware of several other options in the neighborhood for decent prices than having to resort to this place. I have only done business here a number of times for a reason (less than 8) and it's purely out of desperation (i.e. long day at work and don't want to walk down the block if I happen to be walking past this place). But after today, I think I'd rather buy supermarket wine and down it than having my business go to this hole in the wall. I walked in and asked for a type of wine and was barely spoken to in a coherent sentence. It was more like muttering, like it pained her to have to speak to me, all with a sour face. Then once I paid, there was not a word, not even a thank you. And out I walked with my bottle, practically getting hit with the door on the way out! You could just feel the seething hatred this woman has toward people. Whenever I was there last, I happened to be with my husband who is new to the area and he picked up on it immediately and said the same: we're never going back there!! I have never been treated so rudely. Ever, this female clerk needs to be fired. I went in knowing exactly what I wanted and upon checkout the clerk ( after SCREAMING at me for not closing the fridge) told me I could only buy the wine, not the rum because she didn't know the price (though it clearly said it was 21.99). She rudely told me I had to come back another time. I asked her to check and she exploded on me, refusing to look up the product or call her superior after I told her I would wait. She then continued to yell at me screaming she didn't want my Buisness, calling me horrible, and refusing to help me. Finally after a half an hour she calls someone (after saying she had no ones number) and after ONE MIN OF WORK she is able to find the price. I wasn't arguing price, or trying to get anything out of the deal, just to pick out my selections and pay for them. This store is is serious trouble and needs to get their act together quick. Asking someone to do their job is not out of line, and this extreme level of rudeness needs to be dealt with. I hope the management sees this and contacts me. read more
