    Great internist. A no-nonsense kind of guy who just tells it like it is. Friendly staff too. Would definitely come back to him again.

Another downside, for me, is that when they order any kind of test, the order has an expiration date in a week or two. I'm a senior, don't drive, and suffer from fibromyalgia with severe fatigue. All the orders from my independent drs are good for 6-12 mos! I'm guessing that large medical corporations serve a wider variety of clients, often across the entire country, so some are unreliable and do things without discussing with their drs, ergo the corporate CYA policies. Ok, but that's not me, and the independent drs I've always seen know that. Computers do not. I'm now 65 and the doctors I was with for 25+ years straight are retiring sadly. Or going "concierge" style. I got a phone message saying that my dr won't be in the day my next appt is set after all. AGAIN!! ! Each time it's ANOTHER 3-4 months before they can fit me in. Because of my fatigue added to being a lifelong "night owl", I can only do afternoon appts. I can't get to sleep until at least 3 am most nights. I also had to change my phone's "do not disturb" settings because UCLA calls at 7 am. All my life I have been taught it's rude to call others at home before 9 am. So I never get to talk to the office or person that called, since when I call back it's routed to that call center. Extremely impersonal. No one there has ANY medical training, not even receptionist level, all they do is look for open spaces on a computer screen. No empathy, and zero offers of any other way to schedule an appointment or ask a question- you have to push for any of that. When I use the app, I can interact directly with my dr's office, but it's still a series of steps from who reads my message, to a nurse or other medical assistant, to the dr, then back to me. This leads to very poor information sharing. I prefer a much more individualized approach.

They made my appointment, I walked in and I had to pay before services were rendered which is ALWAYS a nasty business tactic. When the doctor came in she said they dont even have ultrasounds there. She admitted that this was a waste of my time and money and nothing could be done moving forward. I walked out. PISSED. paid close to $200 for a person in a white coat to tell me they did not have the proper equipment for the need I had. THEN WHY CHARGE PEOPLE!!!! arent there rules for this??????

She wasn't overly warm, but she was clear, professional, and approachable. Over the past year, though, my experience has shifted, and based on other reviews, it seems I'm not alone. About a year ago, she stopped accepting my insurance. I chose to continue care and pay out of pocket ($250 per visit) because I valued our established relationship. That felt worthwhile, until this recent experience. I called ahead to let the office know I would be 3-5 minutes late, thinking it was the respectful thing to do. During that call, I was informed for the first time of a new late policy: if you are late, you won't be seen, and if you reschedule, there's a $50 charge. This policy had never been communicated to me previously, nor had I signed anything acknowledging it. I expressed that I understood I was late and was completely willing to accept a shortened appointment, whether that meant a few minutes in person or even a quick phone call. I was trying to be flexible and respectful of her time. Unfortunately, Dr. Perez declined all options, including speaking with me briefly by phone. When I arrived, about five minutes late, I remained in the office during what would have been my scheduled appointment time. Dr. Perez moved in and out of a room nearby but did not acknowledge me, make eye contact, or offer any explanation or empathy. After three years as a patient, that lack of basic communication and care was honestly the most upsetting part. Because of that experience, I won't be returning. This wasn't about a policy; it was about how I was treated in that moment.

She proactively assigned certain tests which I appreciated. I felt that she was a bit direct in her communication and also a bit rushed but it wasn't too big of a deal. Over the last few years however, the experience has just gotten worse and worse. They are extremely strict about being late (by even a minute or two. I wish I was exaggerating). I am always punctual but I had a family member who was only 5 minutes late and they cancelled the appointment. Appointment scheduling also takes months, even if there is something serious going on. The last straw was me going to the pharmacist to pick up monthly medicine I need to take and being told that my Dr Perez refused to renew my prescription (even though I need to take this medicine) and left a note for the pharmacy saying she needs to come in for an appointment. The irony in this is that I had an upcoming appointment scheduled on the books (which also I had to schedule 3-4 months out) with her already. So she clearly had not talked with her staff or they hadn't communicated with her before she did this. And even if I didn't have an appointment scheduled, refusing to renew someone's prescription of medicine they NEED is just so unethical in my opinion and feels like some way of forcing someone to come in so you can charge them. As time went on I just started to feel anxiety dealing with her or her office and that is not the kind of care I want. I also felt kind of dismissed when i suggested potential specialists I could see as well. Anyways, just overall, she might be a competent doctor but her and her office are unwelcoming and harsh! And I think care should be both competent, kind and respectful.
