Dr. Ueno is a wonderful, professional and caring acupuncturist…read more I have been working with him for well over a year now on a consistent basis. I sought acupuncture as a part of my treatment since I had been diagnosed with neurological Lyme disease, similar to MS. With this disease I was battling many health issues due to the number of co-infections I contracted from the disease, leaving my immune system severely challenged. If you have Lyme disease it is extremely challenging and complicated as well as unfortunately being highly misunderstood by the medical community. Realizing that conventional medicine did not have the answers is why I turned to functional medicine and really began to heal in the last two years. In the past, before I was diagnosed and still seeking conventional medicine, I did try acupuncture for the first time and it really did help me significantly with my seizure disorder that I developed from Lyme. That was a turning point for me to seeking help elsewhere. By the way I was on three anti-seizure drugs that did not work and acupuncture was the break through to beginning to alleviate it. Western medicine is finally catching up to what we already to know to be a valid and extremely helpful practice. I would like to say that I have worked with other acupuncturist in the past who were great, but having acupuncture with Dr. Ueno was a very significant part to my continuous healing. He is certainly part of my success. He is exceptionally intuitive about what the body needs in terms of support to heighten healing. He is also very generous and kind as is his wife who works in the front. My healing has been a very long and hard process because there are many layers and it can be hard to turn the tides. I definitely feel like we broke through a great deal and couldn't be happier with my results. I no longer have seizures, and I am having more and more energy as well as reasonably pain free days. Best of all is my brain is functioning reasonably well and I have a return to most mental faculties at this point that I had lost. I could not recommend this practice more. The value is truly there and is a wonderful ally to one's overall treatment plan.

I was new to acupuncture but had been wanting to try it for a while. I am so glad I did! Taejean…read moreConverti listened carefully to my concerns - including lots of work stress, some back pain, and wanting better sleep. I also love that she has ideas for herbs to try if you're curious, as well as tips and tricks like what to eat for better sleep and pressure points you can try on yourself at home. She has a ton of knowledge and really cares about what she does and how her patients are improving. She has also followed up between treatments to see how I am doing, something few in western medicine are ever able to do. Love my friends and family who are western doctors, but it's usually not a thing that comes with the territory. By the way, I've heard different reports about whether acupuncture hurts, so I was wondering whether the experience would be comfortable (though if it worked, I would do it regardless). Some people I know say acupuncture can indeed hurt, but with Taejean it's very gentle and there's never pain - she really takes pride in making sure you are completely comfortable, explains everything, and listens to any feedback you have. The needles are much thinner than anything you'd see in other contexts and you don't really feel them at all. Once they're placed, you relax for about 20 minutes...and I mean relax. It's a very calm and peaceful experience and while falling asleep is a problem for me in life in general, I've actually drifted off a couple of times, which I'm told is pretty common during acupuncture sessions. I never thought I'd look forward to this, but I do. I've been to about ten sessions and although my insurance doesn't cover it and I am paying out of pocket, I will continue to go. I'm seeing subtle but real changes in my sleep, but the big difference is in my mood - I just handle everything a lot better and the badness wears off quicker. Oh, and everyone else I've interacted with has been great, too. Super kind and understanding the one time I didn't make it to an appointment on time (unlike major places in the DC area) and the space is lovely and relaxing. If you've been considering acupuncture, go see Taejean. This isn't a placebo thing - it's a "there's good science behind this and it works" thing.
