I was recommended Dr Weingold because I was looking for a psychiatrist who could also offer therapy. I called his office and expressed that. His booker said that the initial meeting had to be in person and that I could get one in 3-4 weeks. I filled out the intake forms and waited. I drove 45 minutes to his office sat down with Dr Weingold who immediately told me he's no longer offering therapy. He the. Asked what I was doing with my current psychiatrist and therapist, told me to keep doing that and sent me on my way. His office then sent me a bill for $208. I told them I didn't think I should have to pay for a new patient meeting when the Dr isn't taking new patients and they should have told me as such on the phone. They wasted my time and money and now they are insisting I pay the bill. Marion in billing is rude app. Carla in booking doesn't do her job and Dr Weingold just wants to write scripts for meds. read more

He's a great and the best Psychiatrist I've ever had. He listens and makes adjustments and asks questions. He has been wonderful.

He is only there to write prescriptions, not to offer any help or guidance. I do not recommend. It took a lot for my son to make this appointment and he was dismissed by this person. read more

I am absolutely shocked by the poor reviews Dr. Weingold has received. 1 star due to his receptionist....really? That has NOTHING to do with him as a doctor! And 1 star because he "gets the job done" (a good thing, I reckon) and because of parking (plenty of free parking on the side streets, FYI)? I've been seeing Dr. Weingold for 5 years. He is my brick and I'm grateful to have found him. He has unbelievable credentials--and that "rude receptionist," well, she was specifically hired by Dr. Weingold to fill out all the hideous paperwork for insurance companies so you do NOT have to pay the fortune other doctors charge because they refuse to deal with insurance calamities. He is flexible and caring. Don't misunderstand his reserved personality when you first meet him. He's truly assessing you as a patient and is not there to chit-chat. He becomes very warm and has a dry/intelligent sense of humor once you begin sessions. He also has a "no-bullshit" sense of therapy...he tells you how it is and makes you think! Also, because he is a Psychiatrist/MD not a Psychologist, his ability to monitor medication whilst in therapy is priceless. Otherwise, you'd have to go to a separate Psychopharmacologist, which is not beneficial since the latter doesn't know you (or monitor you as a patient...) At the end of the day, you either feel the match or you don't. But to give a top doctor crummy reviews because of parking and a rude receptionist...c'mon!!! And as for..."he only wants to make sure your check clears" attitude....NO WAY. He never brings up money---full-stop! Again, that's why he's paying a secretary to deal with billing (what do you expect--the service to be free? Does your car mechanic, dentist or rent get paid magically?) read more

Since people apparently think it's fine to rate an entire medical office based off of a single conversation with the receptionist, I'll follow suit and post my review despite my appointment still being a month away. I had to wait a day or two to hear back from this office, which is normal for LA, since 20 million people live here. The assistant called me and was very respectful and professional throughout the conversation. Granted, I didn't throw a fit when she told me I'd need to wait a few weeks to see the Dr., but I don't get off on harassing people who are paid to talk to me (maybe it's a baby boomer thing?). She was apologetic for the delay, explaining that in the time it took her to talk to me, there were two other calls that she had to let go to voicemail. If I were managing that office, I'd give that receptionist a raise. Not many people can deal with talking to irate overly-entitled backseat-manager types for eight hours straight. read more

PLEASE READ OTHER REVIEWS AS WELL! THERE IS HISTORY OF SHADY BILLING PRACTICES. It took over a month to hear back about making a first appointment but then when his "secretary" finally called (7/5) to set up an appointment she said the next available appointment was not until 9/5.. OK fine but then... even though I had insurance she wanted my credit card to place a $400 hold until my appointment in case I did not show up. WHAT?!?! I have never had any doctor ask to do this. She said that the "Dr" had had problems with no shows, first off, How is that my problem? And why should everyone else pay the price because others did not show up?? Second, If this "Dr." is soo busy that it took a month for him to give me an appointment 2 months away, I'd say he seems pretty busy to worry about a couple of no show to where he needs to place holds on everyone else credit cards (even with insurance) who would like an appointment. Also if you have insurance why would he need to charge you the FULL amount??? My guess is he would probably double dip by charging you and then also billing your insurance. \This by far is the SHADIEST things I have every heard of. I have been to a few psychiatrists, and Dr. Weingold is great. He doesn't bs with you, but he's also never late. He listens to what you have to say, and doesn't see you an unnecessary amount of time if what he's doing is working. What especially impressed me is that when I told him a particular symptom, he not only knew what I was talking about, he had read recent research on it and searched his office until he found what he was looking for. That article lead him to prescribe something no other doctor had tried--and he was the first doctor in 18 years to actually minimize the symptom. I have also found him to have a dry sense of humor, and his billing/scheduling person has been nothing but nice to me. I wouldn't go to Dr. Weingold for intensive talk therapy...but that's not what he's advertising! read more

I've known Dr. Weingold ever since I stopped a life-threaten drinking habit in 2012. At first, I found him detached and perhaps disinterested. What I learned over the years was that my initial impression couldn't be further from the truth. Regardless of how long it's been, he follows up on what was happening at the time and how I am now and each time I've tried someone else I end up going back to him because -- in short -- I trust him. Dr weingold under his care sent me into a bipolar mixed state and two visits into the er due to negligence on his part. He gave me too many medicines and when I told him how I was feeling did bare minimum to help. I highly discourage using this dr. After 20 yrs of being bipolar he's the worst and that was the worst experience I have had under the so called care of a physician. read more

Dr. Weingold has been my psychiatrist for about two years. After an initial very comprehensive intake and discussion he changed my meds and my life--for the better. His knowledge of medications and their side effects is much better than other psychiatrists I have seen over the years. And I appreciated how carefully he explained why he was choosing a specific medication and what to look out for. I have always found him to be compassionate and to take my concerns seriously. With regard to the complaint that he sees patients for 15 minutes, that is what psychiatrists do these days. What is different about Dr. Weingold is that he doesn't overbook and sees patients at their scheduled time. If he feels you need a longer session he will schedule one. read more

At one point, I called his answering service to discuss this situation and his wife, Chris called me back to talk to me. She asked if she could "help". BTW, his wife is not a doctor. Dear Dr. Weingold, You probably need to find yourself a new receptionist. I just called in as a referral to be a new patient and I was trying to schedule a consultation. Your receptionist was VERY rude, sounding like I was a nuisance to her day. She blurted out that the only available appointment was a month away, as if to shoo me away from your office. I said that date would be fine and then, after a few exchanges where she complained he couldn't hear me and was rude again (she obviously needs a hearing aid too), she asked what my insurance was. I told her. She made me repeat it twice because she couldn't hear. Finally, when she got it she berated me about whether I had spoken with my insurance about out-of-network coverage. I explained to her that my understanding was that as long as the provider accepts my insurance it would be fine (which is how my insurance works!). She then decided she had to belittle me and tell me that I was wrong and that's not how insurance "works." I stayed calm and replied that mine does work that way, and as I was attempting to explain how mine works she cut me off, to which I told her she was being quite rude. Naturally, she got defensive, told me again "that's not how insurance works" and I tried to explain how mine works and then she hung up on me. RUDE, RUDE, RUDE! I could never imagine any professional's point person to be so rude and clearly miserable and awful. If she doesn't want to do her job then you should find someone who does. Unbelievable. I'm sure you don't even care since you clearly have no desire to get new patients in the door. I'm sure you have plenty of patients anyway since your next appointment is a month away, so you're clearly not hurting to pay the rent. But I hope you are the best at what you do despite the fact that you have poor taste in the people you entrust to be your practice's facade. I will obviously be seeking another referral since this is too bad of a taste in my mouth to attempt to proceed past that miserable creature that sits at your front office. read more

Dr. Weingold gets the job done. With so many psychiatrists out there who do not know their subject matter (trust me, I've seen it all with helping my husband through panic disorder), he has been great. Whenever we have had emergencies, he has called back immediately, even on a weekend. He spends a long time with you each session whereas other psychs we tried only cared about our insurance and rushed us out the door. So many doctors are misinformed about anxiety medication, but not Dr. Weingold. He has truly helped my husband overcome many obstacles and we are now able to travel! I'm sorry if others have had a bad experience. Yes, he is not the most social, warm doctor, but if you need help and an expert at medication management, he will help you. He is also one of the rare psychs in LA who takes insurance. I'm so sick of these jerks who charge $200-300 a session. To me, that says it all. He truly does care. read more

After being refereed to Dr. Weingold by Cedar Sinai Psychiatry department I left a voice-mail message asking if he was accepting new patients. I received a call back from his receptionist who was condescending and rude. I was so taken aback by her snotty attitude, lack of professionalism and unwillingness to answer my questions that I refused to schedule an appointment. If her behavior is indicative of the quality of service provided "no thanks". I figure I'll same myself some time and aggravation by continuing my search. Dr. Weingold has been my doctor for about 8 years. During those years, for one reason or another, I have needed his care and he has always helped me with the issues "on my plate" and come up with a solution. I have referred dear friends to Dr. Weingold; they have all been so happy to find a doctor who finally had the knowledge and sensitivity to get their meds "just right", not easy with all the new options. Peter Weingold, M.D. is the consummate psychiatrist. Dr. Weingold approaches my mental health issues by masterfully balancing medications and talk therapy (analysis). I find him to be witty, creative, insightful and compassionate but never condescending. I have never doubted that he genuinely cares about me and my successful navigation of life. I find in discussing and comparing psychiatric treatment with close friends or family members, that the psychiatric care I am receiving is the latest cutting edge medications and medical testing. I often discover that these family and friends are not aware of medications, procedures or treatments I am using because their psychiatrists do not keep up on the latest pharmaceuticals, medical studies and technology. More than once I have taken information about studies on medications and procedures provided to me by Dr. Weingold to friends and family members to give to their treating psychiatrists who are not as well informed as Dr. Weingold. I know when faced with anxiety or depression that I need not despair because Dr. Weingold always has and always will help me work it out.
