If I could give Dr. Ashjian more than five stars, I would. I had a prophylactic double mastectomy with immediate DIEP flap reconstruction in January of this year. Dr. Dennis Holmes did the mastectomy, and Dr. Ashjian did the reconstruction. Not only was Dr. Ashjian very knowledgeable, patiently answering my copious amount of questions prior to surgery, but he also checked on me every day while I was in the hospital recovering. I am also extremely happy with my results. In fact, I went to my dermatologist today to have my annual skin cancer screening. It was her first time seeing me since the surgery, and she sees a lot of mastectomy patients for screening. She was flabbergasted at my results, saying that I had the best reconstruction she had ever seen. In fact, she was so impressed, that she took down Dr. Ashjian's name and number so she could make referrals. He is always had no time to you and you had to ask your question when he was running out of cabinet. I was not trust him to make plastic breast and was very right. I had a very disappointing experience with the staff at this office. After I took time off from work and showed up for my appointment that I had scheduled weeks ago (they charge you a $100.00 non-refundable fee before they give you an appointment), I was told the doctor was on vacation, but I later found out that he was not on vacation and very much at the office. The dishonesty is unacceptable, and the staff's overall demeanor was extremely unprofessional. This kind of behavior makes it impossible to trust the practice, and I will be looking for another plastic surgeon. Wow, never have I ever been treated like such utter garbage as this office treated me. I went in for a consultation back at the beginning of February, was given the green light for the surgery, so all his front staff had to do was submit a pre authorization to my insurance company ($100.00 consultation fee). Well 3 weeks later I check up to see what the wait is, and they never submitted it. Then the girl quit. Another week I go to check up to see if anything had been done, no, because another girl quit. Then guess what, the same thing happened another two weeks later, but this time it's real, they're for sure going to submit the authorization. Then just today two more weeks later, another brand new girl tells me she can't see where anything was submitted, but, she'll do me a big favor and check with other people. I said don't bother this just beyond ridiculous, I mean beyond. But I'm taking it as a sign from the divine and going somewhere else. I've waited for an entire year post surgery to write this post. Ladies, if your insurance sends you to Dr. Ashjian for mastectomy and reconstruction I want to beg you to PLEASE look at other options! First, my breasts look awful. They are practically in my armpits, they are noticeably two different sizes and there's odd lumps and bumps that aren't pretty. They are hard, they don't move and they HURT every single day of my life. I have chronic pain on my chest now. I've had non-stop pain since I woke from that surgery. Relentless, awful pain. Dr. Ashjian does NOT listen and he doesn't remember what you've discussed. He cut me off from pain meds about 8 days post-op even though I was still in unbearable pain. He was heartless about it too. I get that Doctors have to be careful with pain meds but leaving a woman after a mastectomy (which is an amputation make no mistake about it) with no pain control is cruel and inhumane if you ask me. I had to go to my ER to get some medication. I was dying in pain. Before the surgery I told him I use my arms and chest muscles a ton in my work. He insisted going under the muscle with my implants was going to be fine. It's not fine. It was the wrong choice. MANY MANY surgeons give you the option of going over the muscle and wrapping the implant in Alloderm to lessen rippling. They also will offer fat grafting at the same time as your exchange surgery from expanders to implants. I wasn't given any of these options. He offered fat grafting but in a separate surgery. Why? More money? This next part is equally important ladies: HIS STAFF IS THE WORST!!! I'm not exaggerating. Gabby is awful. She's probably the rudest person I've ever come across in a medical setting, she makes mistakes all the time and she will never apologize or admit fault. She makes you feel like you're bothering her which is a ridiculous way to be treated after such a huge, life-changing surgery. Ive noticed it's her positive review below mine here on yelp. Haha. Probably trying to recoup all the negative ones about her. His surgical coordinator Erica never returns phone calls or emails and she messed up my disability more times than I can even remember adding more stress to a very stressful time. I've wondered many times if Dr. Ashjian's staff are his nieces or something because I can't imagine why he keeps them on staff! There is ZERO tenderness with this staff so if you're a woman who is dealing with cancer or mastectomy and reconstruction of your breasts YOU DESERVE tenderness and warmth! I have never had an experience like this in all of the years I have been going to doctors Dr Ashjian did a successful surgery on my over ten years ago. I have a complication that has happened over the last year/two Everyone has sent me back to the doctor ---but as people say here, the worst front office treatment I have ever experienced. I've been a patient with Dr. Ashjian twice, and just had my third consultation with him over the course of 8 years. If there is anyone that will give you the most honest unfiltered review it would be me. Here is a quick snapshot: Choose Dr. Ashjian if you want a cheap cosmetic surgery. You want to interact with a severely understaffed office where you are treated with unprofessionalism, severe incompetence, and you're left feeling like your surgeon is just rushing to get as many clients he can in a day without actually caring about your personal case? You've found the right spot. 2012: I was a 19 year old girl seeking a breast augmentation. I had chosen another surgeon in Pasadena but my mom referred me to Dr. Ashjian and plead for me to give him a chance. I fell in love with how personal he made the experience. He literally took out a piece of paper and drew exactly what he planned to do for my special case. Erica was his receptionist and estimator at that time. She was professional and a huge sweetheart (emphasis on the past tense). I went ahead and had my surgery with Dr. Ashjian. Due to my tuberous breast deformity, he made it clear to me that I would have to get surgery #2 eventually to make my breasts look more natural. 2018: I decided to finally pursue that breast revision that we had discussed. By this point, Dr Ashjian has moved from his small office to a bigger and fancier new space. My best friend had her surgery done with him through my referral. I was excited to begin this journey again. But his unprofessional staff (including Erica) left such a bitter taste in my mouth. They made the experience dreadful. I never had my phone calls returned. I had to chase them for my surgery information. I had to physically show up to the office one day because I was not getting any calls back from Erica. I felt like I was an inconvenience to them, when they should be practicing basic customer service at best. Due to the nature of them being understaffed I decided not to write a review or to complain to Dr. Ashjian because after all, I must not be the only one that has complained. He must not care. The service was really that bad. To top it all off, they have records of my allergy information on my medical record. After my first surgery I had an anaphylactic reaction to the Keflex antibiotic I was prescribed. This time Dr. Ashjian prescribed Keflex to me AGAIN and I had to remind his staff that I was severely allergic. Red flag. Dec 2020: My implant ruptured and I went to see him again to get another quote to place another implant. We were in the waiting room with a few other patients that seemed to have the same appointment time slot. It felt like they try to book as many people as they can at once. Dr. Ashjian walked in without a mask. Did not review my surgery history. Asked me to remind him of what he has done to me in the past (a crash course on my surgical history with him). I was honestly tired of it. Sick and tired. I proceeded to have my surgery with Dr. Orloff in Burbank and couldn't be happier. I spent twice the money, but received exceptional customer service and he gave me the look that Dr. Ashijan told me I could never have due to my "deformity". So like I said, SHOP AROUND. Had first time appointment scheduled at 9:00 am, confirmed twice a day before. Went to office at 9:00 am , waited half hour, office closed, answering machine full. Call emergency hotline, they answer office is running late, don't know what it means with confirmed appointment. Very disappointed and dissatisfied. Receptionist Erica finally answered my phone call at 9:35 and lied to me that she was there at 9:15 and there were 2 other patients. If I could give more than five stars, I would. I had an incredible experience with Dr. Ashjian. He performed a bilateral breast augmentation surgery with silicone implants for me just about a week ago, and they are perfect. And I mean perfect. I was very concerned about having natural-looking implants that weren't too big for my body, and Dr. Ashjian and Erica, one of his staff, advised me and helped me pick the right size. The surgery itself went great - the surgery center was clean and the staff there were very friendly and caring. I had no complications and although recovery was painful for the first few days (obviously) I was off the pain medication the day after and am now feeling mostly like my normal self. :) Another thing - I started feeling a little "off" today and found that I had a low fever of 100.4. I called Dr. Ashjian's office and was immediately connected to him. He was friendly, listened to me, and offered helpful advice (apparently this can happen if you do not take enough deep breaths in the days after surgery, and I have definitely been taking shallow breaths.) I have no other symptoms of infection (redness, etc), so he advised me on exactly what to do (take deep breaths, walk around, take pain medication if I want to, and call back if I start to feel worse or if the fever persists) and my fever is already gone and I feel normal again. This type of immediate help was so appreciated, as I must admit I was a little concerned! From the moment I met Dr. Ashjian and Erica I knew that I wanted to have him do this procedure for me, and I am so glad I did. I met Dr Ashjian who assisted during my bilateral mastectomy done by Dr Senofsky, they work together all the time and are a Great Team! I came to both of these Surgeons for a second opinion after consulting with two other highly recommended Breast Cancer Surgeons and I was not impressed at all with their options available to me, they told me somethings that was obviously not true :( So I went to my Primary Care Physician who referred me to Dr Senofsky I was very impressed and reassured what the previous BC surgeon told me was untrue, I was so glad I followed my Instincts! Dr Ashjian assisted Dr Senofsky with my procedure they both did a excellent job even when I had to have a repeat surgery because the final pathology report noted the margins were not clear on one of the tumors. During that 1st surgery the pathologist was in the OR and he told my Surgeons all the margins were clear! So two weeks later I went back to remove a small area of my chest wall to be sure no BC was left, and it was all clear. Dr Ashjian cleared his schedule to assist Dr Senofsky late that day after seeing patients all day & they did the 2nd surgery that evening. All of my follow up visits are with Dr Ashjian he is prepping me for breast reconstruction with expanders & saline injections to expand the chest wall in preparation for my new reconstructed breasts. Dr Ashjian is very kind and highly skilled in microscopic autologous breast reconstruction, which is what I'm planning to do. There are not many Microscopic Reconstructive Surgeons out there with the skills & experience like Dr Ashjian. I am always treated with a warm welcome whether its by the phone or in person, Annette & Erica are so sweet and very helpful anytime I need something, I can count on them to be sure I'm taken care of even when they are extremely busy they will reassure me they will get back to me ASAP They do genuinely care and it helps when your going through difficult times! Dr Ashjian is friendly and always answers my questions so I know what to expect. I know a good, caring Physician & staff when I see them, I have been working in health care services for years and I know I'm in good hands! I was recommended to Dr. Ashjian by another physician. I was very excited to meet him because I was interested in having surgery and he sounded very qualified. When I first arrived to the office, the staff wasn't welcoming but I wasn't going to base my opinion of the Dr. on them. I then met with the Dr. and I felt very rushed as he kept getting interrupted during my consultation. Then Covid hit. A year passed and I decided to schedule a 2nd consultation with him. The day before my visit, I called to confirm my appointment and was told that it was cancelled. It obviously wasn't cancelled by me so it was on their part. The receptionist told me to come in anyway at the original time. I knew that meant that I was now double booked with someone else and I would have a rushed visit yet again. The visit was short but I felt that we were on the same page with what my goal was and I was now ready to schedule surgery. His scheduler Ericka said that she would call my insurance company and get back to me. She never did. I called daily trying to reach her. All I ever got was an answering machine. Weeks went by and after leaving multiple messages without a response, I decided to schedule another appointment and let the Dr. know what I was encountering. I thought that maybe he wasn't aware of what was happening in his practice. When he came in the room he said, how many times are we going to do this, meaning, how many times are you going to continue showing up. I starting to share with him that Ericka was not returning my calls, that 6 weeks had gone by and I wished to schedule surgery with him. He didn't want to hear it, he interrupted me and redirected the conversation. Here I thought, I don't know how this Dr. is in business with the way Ericka manages his practice and he probably doesn't even know. He was very much aware but didn't care. He said he would have Ericka contact the insurance company and call me to schedule surgery and that never happened. This was months ago. I TOTALLY LOVE THIS DOCTOR! Very informative and truly wants what's best for his patients!!! I highly suggest coming to this doctor for cosmetic surgery!!!! I am almost a week post op and the nurse called me two days after to check on me and see how I was doing. The two hour drive from Camp Pendleton to Beverly Hills and back was worth it. I've had so many questions from my fellow military wives both active duty and not active duty and told them that he is worth the drive. Every piece of it is worth it. My friends and my husband notice a change in my personality saying I seem and look happier and that I no longer look sad and depressed and hating my body because I truly love my body now. The reception or who ever answer the phone (Arine or Arina) is the worse here! Very rude and placed me on hold 2 times this afternoon. This is not the only time. The first time I called same person ( I remember making a comment after i got off the phone that she was maybe in a bad mood) But again same thing she talked to me as a NEW customer like I was stupid and ask why am I calling and put me on hold a few times. I told this person that have a consultation and wanted to confirm but she said we will call you to let you know so why are you calling today. But instead of answering I just cancel it. (there much more to say but rather leave it as this) Maybe next time but have to be more Professional, know the products your selling and know the doctors schedule. I wish I could have just let this pass but if this reception is like this, I'm sure the whole office and staff are the same. I would like to start off with the staff ,they are all friendly.Erica whom I was working with there through out my filler sessions to my surgery arrangements was incredibly amazing ,she explains everything you need to know and answers all questions on point , was very patient with me due to the fact that I ask a million and one questions .very professional .Now Dr Ashjian was the most sweetest Dr. ever .He is very gentle with the filler procedures and does a great job ,I believe technique is very Important and he has that which is a plus for me .I feel safer a Dr. doing my fillers then a RN which a lot of other places work with only.If your looking for a great and safe place for fillers and cosmetics surgeries ,look no further they know what there doing . read more
