In an effort to exhaust every alcohol-serving establishment option in my neighborhood, I crossed PDs off the list. Dropped by on a Tuesday evening, T - 30 minutes until the conclusion of happy hour. Bar is pretty packed, we can barely find a square inch of real estate in which to exist in this place. In the nick of time, some broads get up from the bar. We squeeze in there and set up shop. Bartender with Irish accent (classic) comes to take our orders, reminding us the happy hour choices and how much time is left. Unfortunately, the happy hour choices are a limited selection of their full draught roster: I think heineken, bud light, blue moon, and maybe guinness? that's a guess. We both get a blue moon (duh). I have been drinking alcohol lately as if I'm going to die in a few months, because I basically am (I'm about to acquire an extremely time consuming and demanding job). Although the death might actually occur due to my coping mechanism and resulting liver failure. Anyways, I made the statement before arriving to this place that I was "only going to have one drink tonight". Cute. After the moon I elected to switch to vodka soda (dieting). Bartender promptly appeared for refills once our drinks were almost finished, it was nice not to have to hunt him down. Soda really doesn't disguise the vodka flavor whatsoever but you know what? It's an acquired taste. I used to hate this shit but now, and I'm somewhat ashamed to admit it, there's a part of me that kinda enjoys it. Shit.....don't tell my mom, or AA. I may or may not have had another vodka soda after the first one. I don't mean this in a, I had another vodka soda but I'm humorously trying to add ambiguity, kind of way. I actually can't remember. But at some point, I decided to introduce my Israeli (Lol how cutely freshly-off-the-boat is he?) to the good ol' pickleback shot. Perhaps because we had initially asked for more time deciding what we wanted, bartender didn't come back....for a while. I had to like, STARE HIM DOWN for a while before he realized he should come back. The shots were delicious as always. While I was in the bathroom (It's small with 2 stalls I think and the sink like squeezed into the corner) my israeli made friends with the bartender. Apparently he's a cool dude who knows a lot about soccer. We introduced ourselves as we were leaving. It was fun. Service was pretty good. A bar's a bar though... read more

I stumbled upon this gem on one of the hottest days of summer on my way to yoga in Bryant Park. Because sometimes you need beer before yoga. It was just a regular Tuesday, but the bar was full of energy. I didn't want to leave, but alas yoga was waiting. Fast forward, it's the most wonderful time of the year and I find myself at PD's in December--twice. Christmas is ringing from the festive walls to the ceilings and energy is bubbling from the brews to the lovely Irish bartenders. And the experience just as notable as my first. This place is really nice and tons of seating. There are specials all the time so the cost is really reasonable. There is not a lot of staff during the day so be sure to order at the bar to avoid the wait. Really clean bar and good music. There are a lot of tvs if you are interested in watching a game. It's a nice cozy place. They got drinks and they have this karaoke and also they have pool which was so much of fun. They don't have bouncers or anyone to check id so you can just walk in. It's pretty chill place. The drinks reasonable price. For the pool you just gotta pay $2 and play. They have a dj too. Stopped by to see my favorite Irish singer who was performing with another gent on an electric guitar (they did an amazing version of "Hotel California", btw). What I found while listening to some wonderful music was a nice, low key pub with friendly bartenders and comfortable chairs. The beer menu won't make a beer snob's heart race or anything but you can get a decent pull of something. I really enjoyed the laid back vibe and non-douchey scene (although the loud drunk girl who kept on going up and grabbing the singer's mic and screaming into it, I could have done without). The place is pretty roomy and if you wait around long enough, you can get a seat/table. Happy hour is 5 to 7 p.m., and that will get you a $4 Blue Moon, Stella or Bud. Drinks are still pretty cheap even when it's not happy hour ($6 to $7 I believe). I had to go to Grand Central later so I wanted to find a good sports bar to watch football. Peter Dillons popped up and looked super promising. The place itself is really close to Grand Central and a bunch of trains and the space it very spacious. I came a little early so there was still room at the bar but once the game started it was really packed. They have a good amount of beer to choose from and I was there during their happy hour so I got a glass of beer for $5. Being in midtown this is a great deal! The bartender was really nice but the crowd itself was a little intense. I guess because of the game people can get really rowdy and drunk. The bouncers are pretty good if anything happens though which is what happened towards the end of the game. I like that this place has a pool table but it's usually very packed and the people who come to play pool here seem like they come often. A downside is that they don't serve any food but you can have anything delivered and they will supply you with a bunch of menus of places nearby. read more

Just what the doctors order, 2 hours of relaxation before hitting the books all over again. I came here for a reunion with many of my former colleages from college. The happy hour specials aren't bad. $4 pints of stella, bud, and blue moon. Sorry, no wells drink specials here. They also have a pool table in there too. The waitress was no where to be found for a long while so we just dropped the cash and left. It was also one of the first bars that carded me in years, which i found hilarious. Conveniently located just 5 minutes from Grand Central, this was a perfect spot to hang out at while waiting for a scheduled train. We arrived at around 11pm on a Friday night and the place was packed. We found one stool at the bar and grabbed another stool that was unused from a nearby table. The bartender quickly greeted us and was pleasant the entire time, always checking in and making sure we were alright. In all honesty, all the patrons in the bar were super nice and friendly as well. Mistakenly reviewed the 36th location, and not the 40th St. one. Had the pleasure of attending this fine pub while visiting a friend in NYC. Can't go wrong w/a good Irish bar, and this one definitely hits all the major criteria for a good time: -Great Irish bartender. I've gotten to know some pretty cool alcohol distributors, but Greg is certainly up there. If there's one thing I hate about bartenders, it's when they act as if they are gods behind the bar, for no apparent reason. While Greg can dish it out w/the best of them (see: drunk fools trying to hassle him when I was there, so they were asking for it, but he handled it like a pro), he's also one of the most cultured pourers I've ever met. It's not often you get to talk British rock and visiting Normandy, France on a random weeknight with someone, after all. But Greg keeps things moving. He was the only bartender, but he deftly handled taking orders, checking ID's (for everyone, they've had issues in the past he mentioned) and serving everyone at a tremendous clip where no one was waiting. And this place, albeit during the holidays, was PACKED. I rarely saw anyone leave, only arrive. Must be a reason. Greg could definitely be it. My friend goes frequently, so he has a good rapport with him, so we were comped a few buybacks, which ruled (California, get it together with your bar policies! This is standard). -Phenomenal music. Bartender's choice, obviously. Richard Ashcroft and some random American rock? No issues here. -Solid atmosphere. Sports bar, but not too wild (and low chances of being spilled on, which also is great). Fun mix of people. Saw tourists from Europe and suits all fraternizing together. Easily accessible bathrooms downstairs (although the men's room is pretty small, so it's more of a one person at a time situation, which is ok). -Reasonable prices. It's an Irish pub, I'd hope that's the case. I see why my friend likes this place and keeps coming back. If I was in NYC, I'd do the same. Worth going to even if it's out of your area. They have beer, but it's a very poor selection of craft beers (i.e. smaller and local craft breweries). The reason you want beer from local craft breweries is because that's the freshest beer you can get. Also, craft breweries typically have diverse selections of beer and so they have a greater array of styles and tastes to offer. read more

I've been coming to Peter Dillon's ever since I started working on the east side of midtown. The fact that this place doesn't have five stars on every review is a travesty. The bartender that works the 5-6 hours gets absolutely swamped but never leaves anybody waiting. If you opened up a kitchen, I would probably go nowhere else midtown east. Keep up the great work. I hate that we dont have anything like this in Birmingham! while we were in the city this past weekend, we needed to find a place to watch the Raiders game (unfortunately, hotels don't have DirecTV!). I looked it up on the Raiders Fan Site and it said it was the Black Hole of the NE. AND IT WAS RIGHT!! We walked in right about the time they scored their 2nd TD of the game and it was JUST LIKE being at O.Co stadium - but with a bit of a northern accent. the bartender was EXTREMELY attentive. He saw my glass was getting empty and kept checking in on me to see how I was. I was in NYC to get married and after my reception and ceremony in a very close by Restaurant, my entire wedding party from Texas walked into this bar. Needless to say the bartenders were shocked and overwhelmed with the amount of drinks that we were ordering at a time and how amazing we all were...literally!! lol Upon our arrival, I met Kelly who was running Karaoke on the Saturday night (7/20/13) when we all came in. She was amazing..super nice and friendly. Drinks were great. Met lots of locals in the place who stated they do not get many tourists because it is a neighborhood bar, which is why I picked this specific place which I found here on Yelp and its great reviews. We ALL (30 people) had a great time in the place. My husband told me later that one of the Managers was tending bar that night and she was extremely happy to know that we all went in as she predicted it would be a slow night and they just so happened to have 2 bartenders that night. Good thing they did because we put both of them to work all night till 4 am! They also have a pool table which some took advantage of. But if you are reading this...go in. Sit down. Order a drink. This bar has football (soccer for the Yanks) memorabilia for every team that I loathe, including: Manchester United Barca Arsenal Juventus So me and Peter Dillon were not starting out on the best of terms. Things got better though, as the extremely strong vodka sodas only got stronger and stronger. There was also a Jameson happy hour special, which got my seal of approval. For a Midtown bar, the crowd is not the typical McFadden's or Calico Jack crew, which is always welcome. On the particular evening that I was there, there were plenty of pool sharks and people who thought they could belt out "Stairway to Heaven" when the karaoke started. Chilled out Irish bar/pub. Great to grab afterwork drinks, as happy hour runs until 8pm. They have pretty decent specials including $4 pints of stella, and tequila and jaager shots!! The bartenders are really friendly, and they play a decent selection of music. The only downside is that it is a little bit dark, and when I went there last night the music was pretty loud so my friend and I had to do a bit of yelling to hold a conversation. The staff at Dillons are true scholars and gentlemen.. They even offer waiter service direct to the mens room stall if your friend happens to be curled up at the bottom of one with his head buried in porcelain. They even offered him the choice of flat or bubbles before passing it under the stall door... class acts all the way man. Complete with the requisite midtown Irish accents and a full grasp and understanding of the importance of buybacks (maybe too well my projectile friend would probably say) Dillons is a pearl in a sea of midtown flotsam. If only they served food to soak up some of the swill. Kudos to a job well done lads! read more
