Finally got to try some local hot chicken at Pete's. I ended up ordering their chicken sandwich with a side of bacon mac and cheese and my brother got 1 chicken tender. The chicken is very large, made to order, and fresh. It has a good flavor. The Mac and cheese was ok- a bit dry. I also got a margarita which was good but regretted getting a flavor because then it was too sweet from the added syrup. The restaurant inside was clean and has plenty of seating. Bottom Line Up Front: This place is the real deal, huge portions, fair price, great setting. I had high hopes for this place after seeing a few of the videos on various social media platforms of the "bring your own bag" meals where they cut a bag of chips of your choice open and load it with chicken, mac and cheese, and their Comeback Sauce. We didn't bring our own chips, but luckily they recently started selling their own. We opted for a bag of the "Cheetos Flamin' Hot Dill Pickle" and it was delicious! Each of the components could easily stand on its own, the chicken, the mac and cheese, and the sauce were all phenomenal. We opted for the medium heat level and it had plenty of heat without being too overwhelming. Went to Pete's Hot Chicken for the first time June 29. Cute little place with a food truck outside and a cozy space inside. I asked some questions about the menu and settled on a Southtown (sandwich). We discussed with the employee whether they could cut it in half, and he explained it was better if we did that ourselves, so I know he knew we wanted a sandwich. He told me the total and it seemed high, but we were busy asking questions, so I just tapped my card. After a short wait the sandwich came out. It was flavorful and huge. We really enjoyed it. I left fully intending to return. When I checked my email later that evening, I noticed I was charged for the $6 more expensive Dirty Bird which is a fry-based dish, not a sandwich. It is weird that I ordered a sandwich, was given a sandwich, but was charged for more expensive loaded fries. I reached out via email and never got a response. I'll never go back, and although the food was unique and enjoyable, I would encourage all of you to check your receipts!!!!!! read more

This place has grown on me. Originally when I tried their food, I got the Wolf Pack combo. After visiting Pete's Chicken Shack two times after my first visit, I have to say it has become one of my favorite chicken places in San Antonio. I highly recommend the Dirty Bird. A side note here is that their mild/medium heat is like the regular "spicy" heat level at any other restaurant. I would say their strips won't stand by themselves, but with the Macaroni and wet sauce they add as well as seasoned fries and bacon bits, it just can't be beat. I've been to Pete's twice. First time I dined at the picnic table where the truck is posted up. I was impressed with the hot chicken sandwich and the seasoned fries. They also serve agua frescas . I ordered the watermelon and it was really good. I ordered the mild flavor and the sandwich is served with 2 huge hot chicken tenders and is much better than the kind served at Dave's Hot Chicken. The 2nd and last time I got food from here was when I ordered it to go cuz it was freaking cold outside and I didn't see anybody here. I ordered the same thing I got last time but ordered my chicken medium since I was looking for a challenge. I wanted a pineapple agua fresca but it wasn't on the menu so I settled for a Mexican Coke instead. I got my order and took it home. While the food was good, my fries got limp and the sandwich was good but it wasn't as hot as I had expected. Maybe the spiciness had worn off or perhaps the spicy level seemed a bit off.
