However, the photos we got back this time were terrible. The lighting was bad, the composition was bad, and some were even out of focus or overexposed. When I approached Jay about this, he made all kinds of excuses about how it was a poorly lit room and he didn't have adequate space to work. According to him, the pictures are fine. However, everyone I have showed them to finds in unbelievable that a "professional" photographer would deliver such work to a customer. He didn't even bother to crop or color correct them. I asked for a refund, but again he dug his heels in and said he gave me the best pictures he could given the room conditions. He even said our critical comments were "rude". So very unprofessional. These are the comments I received from others who saw the photos: "I'm so sorry. I can't believe the back drop pics are not even centered!" "Wow, he really dropped the ball. A lot of these could be so much better with a little cropping, but it's pretty unbelievable how badly composed these are. I'm so sorry, Jason. What a disappointment." "Pretty bad. It is so unfortunate that we leave our memories in someone else's hands and they blow it...and they get paid for it!! Just isn't right." "Did he even look in the lens when he took them? I'm so sorry" After my repeated complaints, Jay offered to re-edit the pictures, but has not delivered any edits as of 5 months later. When he found a negative review I posted on another site, he sent me a hostile email calling me a b***h and other choice words and rescinded his offer to make the edits. (Odds are I was never going to see those anyway). If you want to preserve your memories, look elsewhere for a photographer. Jay at perfectPictureThat is not your guy.

Katie responded right away, and I liked that they offered a "one hour" package as well as the "lifestyle shoot" that is typical. She was flexible in letting me feel out what I needed, but this arrangement made Merkle Photography more than competitive on price. It took a few reschedules to get to our session -- my ring resizing, the weather, an injury Katie sustained -- but when we finally got to a Saturday that worked for all of us, it was freezing cold outside. (What a month to do photos!) Katie and Thomas didn't blink an eye and met us at the icy tidal basin for some 20 degree photography. We lasted about 20 minutes out there, and then I asked them to go to a museum -- one they'd never been to. They did an incredible job finding creative shots and working with an unfamiliar location. My advice: just follow their advice! They know what shots they are going for, and they will be striking and unique. So far, we've only received a "Sneak Peek" of about five photos -- but those were up the same night, and we were just blown away by shots we didn't even realize they were getting. Our friends can't get over what genuine artists we found for a routine engagement shoot. I wish I could afford to fly Katie out to my wedding in CA, too! I will update this review when I get my full set of photos (any day now -- they get perks for short turnaround!) -- but I couldn't wait to let the Yelp community know about this gem of a photography business.

On site, Dave was warm, made me feel comfortable, and helped me find the confident, friendly look I was hoping for. My only regret is not booking sooner, because the video he created is hands down my favorite memento from our wedding day. I am very type-A and a project manager by trade, so I can't help but micromanage anyone that comes across my path. Not only did Gene work beautifully with me, but he made the entire process SO easy. Planning a wedding can be so overwhelming, especially because I've never worked with wedding vendors before, and that made me a little nervous. Gene's process was so simple and I can't even give any constructive criticism, because everything was better than I could have imagined. I met with all of my vendors ahead of time, except for Gene -there was no need to. He took every detail I gave him into careful consideration and no request was too small or large. When I initially contracted with him I took quite a bit of time looking at all of his videos from other weddings and trying to pinpoint things I liked and things I didn't like to try and tell him what would be best, but everything was so well done that I knew we were in good hands! I was anxiously awaiting our wedding video after our wedding day, and he delivered it a week ahead of time and it was beautiful. I cried tears of joy the first time watching it, and then again when I watched it with my mother and then again with my grandmother. It's truly something we will remember forever. If you're on the fence about booking a videographer, get off the fence and book with Gene. Find a way to add this into your wedding budget, you will not be disappointed.
