I was lucky enough to stumble on photographer Marly Hernandez when I first moved to New York City two years ago. Since that time, I've gone to her alone for headshots, portrait shots, a boudoir session, and soon, my fiancé and I will be meeting with her to discuss engagement photos. I am absolutely in love with the portrait shots she's taken of me, and my family as well has contacted her for prints for the walls of their homes. The boudoir session in particular was a coup. She customized a package for me, location, ensemble changes and prints, and made sure I felt like a rockstar posing throughout the session. I did feel like a rockstar, and it may be the best Christmas present I've ever gotten for my fiancé. More than that, it's clear that she not only is great at what she does, but loves it. She paid such close attention to the production and printing of the photos, and it showed in the detail of the final product. She's always been flexible with me in adapting the packages to what best fits my needs. It's a bargain, an up-and-coming photographer at an anxiety-free price. I purchased a Groupon for headshots from Marly Photography. I was really nervous as I haven't taken actor headshots in about three years. Being really nervous, Marly helped me with poses but at the same time allowed me to explore ideas that I had. I had brought a couple of headshot examples of friends on my phone. I absolutely loved them. But that is not the best part. I'm getting married, so after really adoring my headshots (my agent did too), I booked her for a boudoir photoshoot. I cannot tell you how absolutely nerve-racked I was. I got to her apartment/studio and it was the cutest thing ever. She has a room that she dedicates to these types of photos. Lets just say I needed a lot of coaching. She was very nice and helped direct me. By the end, I was very comfortable and felt very sexy. But then was the waiting for the photos, even more nerve racking. I got them two days ago and oh my, do I look sexy!! I am now waiting for my retouched images but I can say that without being retouched I love them. I'm sure my future hubby will too. I'm looking forward to booking a couples session with her once I recuperate from my wedding expenses. So exciting!! read more

I had this crazy idea to get some professional photos of me doing yoga poses as a birthday gift to myself. Well I put the idea on the back burner until I saw a Marly Hernandez Photography photo album. That "crazy idea" light bulb went off again. After I contacted her she mentioned that she'd never done yoga photos and I said that I don't think I'm particularly photogenic but lets give it a try anyway. She could not have been more accommodating. We played with several ideas including meeting in central park at 7am on a cold fall morning. You will LOVE working with Marly. Professional, knowledgeable and the most pleasant disposition. I waited about 2 weeks for the pictures but I was so nervous to see myself I would have waited a year! I was stunned by the finished product. She captured the light perfectly in every shot. When I'm 100 I can pull out those pictures and have beautiful proof that I could stand on my head :-) I am entering a yoga pose contest this summer to potentially be on the cover of a yoga magazine. I had worked with Marly for some editorial shots when she was a little newer on the photography scene. The photos I ended up with were more creative than I imagined and they were edited to perfection. More recently, I got engaged and went back to Marly to inquire about doing an engagement session with a fiancé who isn't so great in front of a camera :) She was able to catch some really nice shots, candid and posed, that we both looked great in and really told our story. Additionally, she created an amazing guestbook for me using our photos. I'm so excited to show it off at the wedding and plan to go back to her again for a boudoir session for a wedding present to my future husband. Not only is Marly super friendly and easy to relax with while she's taking photos, she's got a great eye for the small things that make a picture extra special. Amazing, simply amazing. I'm a chef and was looking for someone to take food photography for my restaurant. In my search I found Marly. My husband, my business partner, ended up using a friend for the food photography (only because he was free) but I had fallen so in love with Marly's work that I still hired her to take photos of us for some post wedding photos. We didn't have a photographer at our wedding so as a gift for our fifth wedding anniversary we chose to treat ourselves to a photo session. I love the photos so much. I feel beautiful and happy in them. She really captured us as a couple. My only regret was not bringing chef props for our session. I had left them at home. My other regret was not hiring her to take the food photography as now we are stuck with photos from our friend. After a couple of years pass I will definitely hire her to retake the food photography. But at least I have great photos of us! read more

The first thing to mention is what a genuine sweetheart Marly is...what a doll! I'm launching my new business website, and I needed some eye-catching photos. I found Marly on Yelp! and yes all the positive, gushing reviews you read about her are true: she genuinely is that warm, charming, encouraging and adorable. She's also extremely professional, smart and on-the-ball. I was very nervous about taking the photos, but within 8 minutes of meeting her, I felt like I had been chatting with her for a long time. I'm a musician working on an EP and wanted to have some headshot photos that would compliment who I am and the music I make, a tall order, I know. But the photos are everything I hoped for and nothing of what I feared (like some commercial, over-photoshopped fakeness). Instead I feel Marly was really able to capture in me what I hope my music communicates: an openness and understated beauty. I have to say that although I'm comfortable with a guitar, I feel beyond awkward in front of a camera. When I confessed this to Marly, she was so excellent at making me feel at ease to the point where I often forgot the camera was even there. I highly, highly recommend Marly for photography for any occasion. We hired her as the photographer for our wedding. She was always so fast to respond to emails and so easy to work with in prepping. The day of, she was perfect! She covered everything we wanted and made taking the pictures fun and relaxed with great suggestions but not being overly pushy or cheesy in what she wanted. This photographic duo couple were sensational to work with. Their schedule was very flexible and they were able to easily book time for an engagement shoot for my fiancé and myself, even in the cold of December. We were scheduled for an hour of time, but they stayed with us for an extra thirty minutes. We were given extra photos as well! Both Marley and Stephen were very easy and pleasant to work with. My fiancé and I are not necessarily the most camera-ready people, and she made the process painless for us. She was also willing to explore our very nerdy and unique themes. Even though I needed the head shots for business purposes I actually hate taking photos and I also don't like most pictures of myself. So, I was antsy and not very happy to go thought the process... But Marly, God bless her, made me comfortable and took away all my anxiety during the photo session. Wow. Marly is a dream. An actor friend of mine referred her to me, and I'll never hire anyone else to photograph me again. Not only are her rates incredible, but she can even turn a loon like me into a good-looking dude! She nailed the author's headshots I needed & more, lending an artistic vision to each picture that actually captures my character. It's not one-and-done with Marly. Marly is an outstanding photographer! I needed to get some headshots done for a project I'm working on and she was exactly the photographer I needed. I don't think I photograph well--mainly because I don't know what to do in front of a camera--but Marly made the whole experience very casual and loose for me, letting me know what was good and what wasn't. I scheduled a headshot session with Marly and got stuck in traffic and was an hour late. Not only was Marly understanding and helpful in helping me find a place of comfort during our shoot, but she took more than an hour and a half of time to shoot! It was overall a great experience and I'm very happy with the photos. I've done photoshoots with other photographers before and the experience has been always the same-very nerve-wracking, sterile, uncomfortable. But this one was a breeze! read more
