After signing up in advance for five-minute appointments, members were able to get professional-quality head shots that could be used for Linkedin and other sites. Laurie DeWitt was on-site at a big math meeting at the Baltimore Convention Center. She had a stream of mathematicians coming by to get professional portraits done. This cannot have been easy. I was impressed by the calm she brought to the process. There was no sense of "hurry", but still she managed to keep up. For my portrait, she made pleasant conversation, interspersing suggestions to improve the portrait: take the pen out of your pocket, sit up straighter, lower your chin a bit. Laurie clearly knows what she is doing. She snapped off a few photos, which were good to very good, and included a great one - and that is now my go-to head shot. We hired Laurie for our August wedding in Baltimore - wedding in a church and reception on the Johns Hopkins campus. Laurie did a fantastic job for us, hands down, and we would recommend her wholeheartedly to other couples who are planning their weddings (or other events). In terms of preparation for the wedding, we spoke with her over the phone and met with her once in person prior to the date. She asked a lot of questions to make sure that she understood our photography style, and she was aware of family dynamics and personal preferences. On the day of, she did a great job with the photography. She was not disruptive with her presence during the ceremony at all, and was respectful of the sanctity of the moment. While taking wedding party photos, she was a pleasure to work with, and we were very comfortable with her. She was funny, she kept us on time without rushing us, and she provided some creative ideas for photo poses and scenes that we liked. She also made sure that our voices were heard, taking photos in places that we suggested day of. She did a good job providing direction to family and friends. During the reception, she was very self-sufficient, getting some great photos without interfering with everything that was going on. And she was accommodating with family members who wanted certain photos taken. After the wedding, she provided a quick turnaround on the photos, and allowed us to download and use the photos as much as we wanted. We booked Laurie for our August 2016 wedding in Towson, MD. After seeing some of her work we knew she was the one for us! Photography was a huge concern of mine, as you cannot redo or recapture the day once it's over and Laurie did not disappoint. She was flexible, easy to contact, and creative. I hired Laurie to photograph a 3-day conference in Baltimore. The hours were long, but she was always ready to photograph all aspects of the event. Laurie was an amazing photographer for our wedding. I recommend Pure Light Images and her work highly. There are some things that really set her apart. She really captured the personalities of the people at the event - and since we had a small cast of colorful characters present, and since a lot of the wedding was planned around the goal of having our friends together in one place, this really captured what was memorable and special to us about our wedding. I think a lot of even quite good wedding photographers achieve, and maybe even try for, generic pictures - the kind that look like just anyone in a portfolio or on a website and make people think, gosh, I could have been one of a hundred interchangeable people on the cover of Modern Bride! Laurie's work is more personal than that. There's a great shot of the various ridiculous fits of laughter my party went into when my sister gave me bunny ears in what was initially a somewhat solemn group picture, and series of my husband's sister/best maid and my sister/maid of honor looking quite scandalized that the bride and groom were smooching each other in their presence. These photos are very much in keeping with the characteristic playfully annoying ways we are with each other. There are people who never would have taken these, or would have weeded them out in favor of, I donno, more of looking serious while putting on makeup - and at least in response to her sense of the people we are, Laurie knew not to do that for our wedding. If you love your favorite lipstick as much as your groom-to-be, well, I'm sure she'd happily take a picture of you looking like you're smiling coyly at that coral gloss you're gaga for that you'd cherish forever. She also has a great sense of color and composition and tries interesting things with lighting - and isn't afraid to take some risks to achieve good results, which makes me happy because they often paid off for us, and because I can appreciate, as a bit of a photographer myself, that that's how photographers who are interested and engaged and constantly evolving their craft shoot. Photographers like that take better photos, too. Laurie also was an absolute steal; book her while her prices are low, ladies and gentlemen. Finally, Laurie brought us a CD from a concert she'd just been at for a band we both liked. She got to know people a little. She was disarming in an uncalculated way. I pretty much hate being "on the wrong side of the camera," most of the time, but I can deal with hamming it up when my sister points a lens at me, and I was similarly comfortable with Laurie shooting. Needless to say, I've had a lot more time to get used to my sister. This was helpful; I look a lot more confident than I typically do in photos in my wedding shots, and that will be a nice way to remember myself on that day. My husband and I were married in June 2016 and we started researching photographers about a year before our wedding. Somehow I ended up on Eventective (http://www.eventective.com/). I chose the photography category and signed up to receive quotes/information from photographers in the Baltimore area. When I told her I was still researching photographers, she provided tips to help with my search. One thing to be mindful of when searching for your wedding photographer is that larger photography companies, with multiple photographers, may show you the work done by their best photographers, but may actually book a less experienced photographer whose work they didn't show you. Laurie offered to meet with my husband and me for a consultation and we hired her that same day. I stayed in contact with her and about two weeks before the wedding we chatted on the phone and created a photography timeline of the wedding day. Laurie always made us feel at ease and the day of the wedding she even helped my bridesmaids put my wedding dress on me! She truly went above and beyond. She caught a lot of priceless moments from our wedding and wasn't "in the way of" the festivities.
