Located right off the freeway and next to the Walmart this place has competitive prices and unique toys and treats for all animals. I really enjoyed checking out all the live animals during a visit with my son. The coolest being the chinchillas and turtle. I rated a 4star mainly because their Pet Trainer Anna is an awesome trainer. She has taught my stubborn MichoRizzo the basic and even he graduated the AKC STAR program. He still knows the commands. We are to set up his Good Citizen course soon--can't wait. We got a good deal for both courses. As far as the store goes, they would get a 2 from a 3 since I have ordered for pick up and they have either given me a wrong item or substituted without informing me. The last time I ordered the ice cream and also some doggy cleaning wipes. When I picked up my order the staff took out my order from the freezer which made sense for ice cream. But the cleaning wipes were frozen and once I thawed it out: there was no using the product since the wipes have dried up more. Lastly, If this was up to pet smart grooming --I would've rated a one star since Vanessa who was young and now seems she's a manager refused to groom My dog claiming he was under medication which he wasn't. I was suggested to use petsmart hemp style treats so that he remains calm which is marketed for said reasons. She stated that's consider sedation and that they have to cancel my appt after waiting over a month. As a healthcare worker and married to a nurse--sedation is different than what Vanessa was stating. Also why would Petsmart sell a product that is specifically meant for calming your pet for grooming--but yet; pets are denied service. In no way shape or form was my dog "sedated". In fact, he was calmer than usual and playful. I find it her service could have been better. But that is why I groom him elsewhere. read more

I had stopped taking her to Petco Grooming for a while after one of their main groomers left . I recently returned to grooming my baby here . After a bad experience at a well known groomer. I have never worried about the safety of my baby nor the capabilities of the staff . Hummingbird has been her groomer and she is an absolute gem !! Friendly , informative , and takes good care of Derpy when she is there . My baby always smells so fresh and her fur is all so soft . Be aware.... Petco has dual pricing. The price in the store and the price you find online. I checked online to see if they had something I wanted to buy and when I saw they did, I went to my local Petco to buy it. When I noticed the price at the store was higher than online I questioned the cashier about the difference in pricing. The cashier wasn't able to give me a reason so asked the assistant manager and the assistant manager gave me a reason about pricing in different areas of the state (California) but will honor the online pricing which was lower than in the store. I asked her to do that for my entire purchase today and she said its not a problem. I paid for my purchases and went home. When I arrived home and unpacked the bag, I was about to throw away the receipt when I noticed I was charged full price (store price and not the lower, online price) on only part of my purchase and not the entire purchase as I requested (and the assistant manager agreed on). This was disappointing to see, especially after asking for the lower price and being told that it wasn't a problem. In this day of higher cost of living with higher prices on everything, it would be nice to see that someone has your back, unfortunately Petco didn't fully cover me as I was told they would. I went in because I have four dogs and needed several items for them and maybe a costume or two. No one offered assistance though there were about 4 employees in the store. I searched every isle for the items I needed and couldn't find certain things and certain things were not in stock. I called my husband because I was so frustrated. He said he also went there 2 days prior and no one helped him either. I finally decided to leave and order from Amazon. As I left someone cheerfully told me to have a great day. Don't take your pets here at all!!! I have been taking my puppy for grooming at other locations and they been beyond the best!! This week I took my puppy of 3 months on Friday morning 11/03/23 for grooming and he was walking and running perfectly fine. After 30 min of being there I get a phone call from a staff saying to pick my puppy because he was injured and they couldn't do the services at all. How does that happen when my puppy was perfectly fine. Sadly now my puppy has been limping since I got him. Be warned, if your dog has even the smallest matt that could be easily brushed out, they are too lazy and will SHAVE everything off instead. Wish I could give this place 6 stars. Shocked that it only has 3 star average. Easily the best petco I've been to and that's saying something bc I like most Petco stores. Special shout out to which ever manager I spoke with the other day when I had to return a faulty tank that had a crack in it that was hidden under the sticker it came stuck to it. She was really amazing, patient, and kind (even though I didn't have a receipt she found me in the system with this LONG string of numbers that comprised my purchase ID#) and, even though the cashiers are sometimes understaffed during a busy time, they are always so nice and patient with all the customers. But also, their aquatic section is beautiful. It's obvious they care about the fish, the water is crystal clear whenever I go, their aren't a bunch of dead fish in the tanks (cough cough Natomas Petsmart) the aquatic plants in the tanks look so well taken care of it's hard not to buy them all, and they respect your time instead of rambling on or subjecting me to an interview/interrogation about whether I'm worthy of their fish before purchasing (cough cough Natomas petsmart). The online petco prices and the in store price are different. A lot of times, the same item is cheaper on petco's website. In store, they will ring you up for the in store price unless you specifically pull up the item on the website for them to price match. (This is just an annoying thing. Their system should jsut automatically charge you the lower price. Not sure if they doing this on purpose to deliberately charge in-store customers more! The grooming department here is AWFUL. I have been taking my pup here since I got him at 10 weeks old. He is very hyper and has a hard time sitting still, but I continued to take him in MONTHLY for hair, nails, and teeth. Winter rolled around and my little fur baby decided he really loved sweaters .. but with the amount of hair he has, he quickly matted! I tried brushing him out the best that I could before turning to them for help, but she said that his skin was getting so irritated the best thing we could do at that point was to cut it short. Little did I know that meant taking him DOWN TO THE SKIN, but that's another story. Fast forward five months, and he finally has hair again. I have FOUR different brushes that I use on this dog on a regular basis. The second I bring him in she tried to say that he was "oh so tangled". Mmm, SLIGHTLY tangled .. MAYBE!! She sent me a text four hours later saying that she did the best she could, but that I needed to be more consistent about bringing him in. Uhhhh .. I was consistent until YALL SHAVED HIM BALD!!!!!!!!!!!!! So I go to pick him up, and they won't even let me see him until I go pay. I know my boy doesn't sit still, so I tipped her very generously for her time and effort!!!! I go back and show my receipt, ONLY FOR THEM TO BRING OUT A COMPLETELY SHAVED DOG!!!!!!!!!AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not only that, but they left his face with FOUR INCH hair, talking about he is "too unsafe to cut"! WTH???!!! I decided to call back the next day and ask if they had time to fit him in and try to touch up his face so that it at least looked like the rest of him, only to receive a VERY RUDE text message blaming me for not being consistent. NOPE! NEVER AGAIN! I pay $85 to these groomers, on a REGULAR BASIS! Though she did say that I could go back for her manager to try to cut his face "to my liking", I absolutely will not ever let this group of people touch my dog again! After reading their reviews on Yelp, SO MANY PEOPLE have had the EXACT same experience here ... picking up bald dogs and they blame the dogs behavior or the owner. This is terrible, terrible customer service! Y'all need to learn to take responsibility for yourselves and stop blaming your PAYING CUSTOMERS!!!!! In less than 30 seconds, I have found SEVERAL four and a half and five star groomers in the greater Sacramento area. DO NOT TAKE YOUR DOG HERE FOR GROOMING. I'm leaving this review because of the horrible experience I had on a Saturday afternoon. I have a 7 month old short haired pup that I brought in for her first bath and haircut. When I got there I waited at the counter for 5 minutes or so, a dog barking so loud and continuously in the back. My dog got antsy hearing all of that commotion. The "pet stylist" came out and asked a few questions, after she found out it was my dog's first visit, she immediately refused to groom her. She suggested bringing out the clippers to put it near her to see how she reacts to the sound. OF COURSE my dog moved away from her. Hello, who is this stranger I've never seen putting some weird sounding machine next to my face? She then suggested referring my dog to a vet to get sedated for grooming because she was too anxious. By this point the pet stylist is making me anxious with all of these outrageous suggestions and trying to teach me about trauma and desensitizing animals. Petco, if you're going to have employees refuse providing services that your customers planned and signed up for WITHOUT EVEN TRYING, you need to add that in your fine print. My dog is not aggressive nor abnormally anxious. Per the stylist, she did great with the nail buffing process which is also a tool that makes noise. So why didn't you even try to do the haircut? She suggested after 3-4 baths with them she can get a haircut. NAH SIS, I'm not trying to be a returning customer. Also, nice try trying to charge me more for the wrong services. Make sure you read your grooming receipts folks. It looked like that dog stylist was working by herself so I'm not sure if she was over it and didn't want to do her job anymore. I was disrespected by Paige, manager today. I was told that they have a 14 day return policy on their fish. I misplaced the receipt and know that we had the fish for 7 days. Anyhow, when I bought the fish, I included my petco reward account so I'm sure if they wanted to look it up, they would have it in their system to connect my phone number to the transaction date and receipt. While there, my daughter wanted another one to replace the one that died so we picked one up and went to rung it up. Petco were the pets go! This store has some pretty good employees, have been helpful and courteous. The store is well kept and clean. Plenty of parking outside. They have some pretty good dog toys and food. But the selection is kinda small. They have beta fish, hermit crabs, frogs, turtles, birds and more for sale. I like there selection of dog treats. They have some natural and healthier options for my dog which i prefer. They do have the pet clean up stations if needed for the little mistakes, and bathroom for the human so you dont make a mistake on the floors. Overall its a pretty good store, i like to stop by when we come down to the massive shopping center it is located around. Maybe catch a sale or see if something new is in. ...I don't know how to begin. In the fish tank, there were really cool plants for the fish tank, I was so happy to find them, and after going home, I made sure to rinse because I didn't want snails in my fish tank. Turns out that there weren't just snails but there were also worms... I definitely freaked out. There wasn't just one type of worm but two as far as I was able to see. It started showing up after a week or so, I think there is like worm eggs in the tank. I am pretty sure they were from the plants because my tank was only 1 month old and had 2 shrimps in it (I did drip acclimate so there wasn't anything that was in the tank) until added the plants. This Petco is probably one of the worst I've ever been to as far as staff. No one could be found to help find anything. Maybe understaffed? Had to go scavenger hunting to find someone. While I do understand policies and procedures are in place for a reason, another part of that policy and procedure should be how they are communicated to the paying Customer; with respect. For as much as I paid in previous grooming appointments (over $100); you can speak to paying customers respectfully. If they ask what they did last appointment for grooming; look at the records and tell them. "I don't know" does not suffice. Explaining your vaccination policy tactfully is important part of keeping your customers. Not only did this location lose me as a grooming customer but I will also drive to Natomas PetSmart to purchase all other necessities for my dogs from this day forward. I came to this Petco location at about 9:00am on a Saturday morning to pick up some cat food while killing time before Ikea opened. This location is totally remodeled and brand new inside. It is perfectly clean and organized so I really enjoyed walking around and looking at all the cool things that they had to offer. They have a ton of dog leashes and dog toys so this is where I spent most of my time browsing all the styles. They also had cute hermit crabs, guinea pigs, mice, rats, birds, etc. that were adorable and fun to watch! They didn't have as big of a cat and dog food selection as I have seen at other stores, so if you get something in particular at another location, they might not have it here. This location does have a good sized area for fish and fish tanks which was nice to look at as well, and a small grooming area for your pups! I would have gave this place 5 stars but when you are buying a fish, you dont really need to match the owner and pet. Its a Fish! We bought a african chiclid here, at first they wouldnt sell it to us because we didnt have bigger tank. Come on really?! Its not as big as other stores. The staff was friendly. Everything looks clean but the smell just makes me wanna run out! Im allergic to cats and could feel myself warm n itchy all over. They have all kinds of fishes, snakes, lizards,, etc. They didnt have cats and dogs though which made my kids sad :(. read more
