Hey Pet lovers! I made a late night run to Petco this evening. Also, noticed that these reviews are super old. This Petco moved down the street over by Chipotle and Ulta. Anyhow, I came in to get hamster food, dog treats, and one beta. They have a "beta of the month". This one was a male Tangerine Koi. He is handsome and surprisingly respectful to my female beta. I'm gonna keep them two together. I was in and out in 20 mins, Todd helped me at the register. The staff were pleasant and friendly. Todd told me that this beta gets a bit bigger than the other males. The only drawback of my visit was that there was this beautiful cocktail, Sokka, that was singing a lot. I wanted Sokka, and I've never had a birdie as a pet. My point is the quality is great at Petco and the employees aren't dead inside. Big plus! I'll be back! read more

This location is a joke. First time here and a bad experience. While shopping I needed to use the restroom and this big fat groomer came rushing past me and into the locked bathroom. I waited nicely for her to exit as she did I went to hold the door open to use it but she grabbed the door rudely, shut it and said that the bathrooms are for employees only. A big store like this and not a shared bathroom? Makes zero sense. I hope Karma bites her in her big butt and she's denied the opportunity to use a bathroom. She was beyond rude. The store was out of the one thing we drove there for. I won't be back. Petsmart here I come. read more

I brought my dog (Oreo) to get groomed to this Petco 2/12/23 @ 11am for the first time and it will definitely be the last. As soon as I walked in the 2 groomers already had a very snotty attitude, I told them my dog had an appointment and the 2 groomers kept looking at each other as if it was such a big inconvenience that I made an appointment, they were not welcoming whatsoever, if you ever want to feel like a bother even if an appointment was made, come here, other than that I do NOT recommend this Petco. They are so sweet! They take so much time asking all about your dog and what you want done, and when you go to pick them up they send you home with dog treats and even a thank you note! I'm so frustrated with this Petco Store. I waited three weeks (I know it's busy season) to get my dog groomed and the day of grooming, I received a text message that the groomer never showed and they would reschedule. I understand things like that happen. But I was told to call to reschedule and I've called three times with no answer, leaving a voicemail every time. also, isn't it unfair that I will have to wait another four weeks to get my dog groomed again when they were the ones who canceled on me? Still haven't heard back from the store, but that's how far booked out they are now. read more

Will never bring my dog back here again. The last time I brought my dog to get groomed at this location we had an appointment at 3 pm. We received a call around 1:00 pm telling us we needed to bring him in ASAP, or his appointment would be canceled. There was no reasoning behind why. My boyfriend and I were lucky enough that we could break away from work to bring him in. Upon picking him up we got home and noticed a huge gash on the inside of his thigh. NOT A SINGLE GROOMER TOLD US THAT IT HAPPENED. I called the manager of the store and she did not seem very concerned with the situation, and eventually told me I could come pick up some ointment from her to help with the healing. If there was a noticeable gash inside his leg the least they could've done was tell us. There is no way he was accidentally cut and the staff had no clue. Our dog is very well behaved and has never had issues being groomed before. His haircut was rushed for whatever reasons (did not look good), and we will be supporting our small local businesses from here on out. read more

We were going to browse the dog and cat food, but the doors weren't open and an employee named Jo came out saying we can't come in if we're not buying anything and continued to lock the doors back up. My friends and I came back later, the same lady stalked my friends and I through them isles to tell us that we couldn't be in the store if we weren't buying anything again and accused us for lying about our intentions for being there. read more

This is the forgotten Petco. I don't mean that in a disparaging way--it's just that I actually do forget that this store is there. It's only a few blocks further from me than the Fort Union store, but I hardly every go in. I think the biggest reason is that this place seems to be the repeat of a lot of stores in the Family Center in Midvale. Office supplies, pet store, dollar store. And all things considered, FC Midvale has a lot more going on. The new Dick's is opening soon (already?) and Gordman's is taking the place of the old Ross. I mean, neither of those are big wins, but add in the Deseret Book, Smith's, a few restaurants, and lots of other little goodies and you've got a compelling argument to go east instead of west. Comparisons aside, there's nothing wrong with this Petco. Same stuff. A little smaller of a store, or maybe it just feels that way, but overall you can still get your food and toys and fish and critters and supplies that you can at other Petco stores. read more

My friends and I are part of the vet tech program in a local community college and went into this location in between classes and felt very unwelcome. One of the associates, Jo, was following us around and accusing us of performing a field trip to their store. Our instructor was not with us at the time, nor did we have any paperwork from out classes. Jo had been watching us and accused us of lying about our intention of being there. We were told that their customer counter at the door would provide skewed numbers because we wouldn't be buying anything. We did end up buying some items as we all have our own animals, but still get very unwelcome the entire time we were there. It's sad to the the pet stores not supporting future associates of the veterinary medicine field. read more

Great selection of Limited Ingredient Foods. I had been shopping another big pet store when my dog became allergic to chicken and then grain and the never kept the food my dog could eat in stock. I put in five written and eight verbal requests at the big pet store, waste of time. Started going to Petco, wow, they are well stocked and extremely helpful in selecting food appropriate for my pup. Petco has never, ever, run out of his food. I am so grateful to be able to count on Petco. read more

(I just wrote a glowing review of "this" PETCO - but I think it was inadvertently tagged to a different location? Sorry!) In the past we had purchased all of our fresh water fish and supplies from an independently owned fish store in Holladay. And, though there was a fairly high mortality rate on the fish purchased - we were usually able to get replacement fish. However, within 2-3 days after a purchase of several tetras from the establishment, 50% of our fish died from a suspected parasitic infection. The store was willing to replace the tetras - but that's it. We went looking for another fish store. The wonderful folks at the Reef recommended PETCO - and we are so happy they did! We have found the store, staff, and quality of the various "products: (live animals and care products) absolutely top notch! Kelsey, in particular, has been amazing to work with. We replaced our fish, bought a new 20-gallon tank at a fraction of the cost (of the one that we had purchased at other store and which cracked and flooded our living room hours after setting it up), etc. I absolutely love this PETCO (and the folks at Reef love the one in Draper). Thank you, PETCO, for hiring great people, providing excellent and affordable service and products - We wish we had tried you all outs sooner! read more

I was going to leave a 3 star review for my dog's grooming. They returned her to me covered in loose hair and didn't do a very good job cleaning her face or trimming around her muzzle. But then I realized ... They cut her in several places. She has a tiny skin tag and despite not being cut that short, they still managed to leave scabs where they nicked her. Her eye was watering and she was squinting afterwards and I thought maybe she had a hair in it. Since they didn't brush her out at all. But no. They scratched her eyeball!! She has a deep enough scratch on her eye that it's ulcerated and painful. I've now spent $150 to take her to the vet. I'm hoping the antibiotics work but I may need to bring her to a specialist so she doesn't lose her eye. When I picked her up the groomer was commenting about having to sanitize the area since someone brought a sick dog in. When I left a review through the automated email, they never responded and just ignored my concerns. All in all, I'm furious. This is not the standard I had at the petcos in any of the other places we lived. So much for a minimum standard. read more

I have always loved the grooming shop...my last visit about a month ago; after a couple of days my dog started scratching and biting his skin. We finally took him to our vet and he had lice...yikes!!! My vet asked if he had just been groomed and I said yes and she said I am 100% sure he got the lice from the groomers. We called and told them because there were about 10 other dogs coming in and going out but of course they denied it. So if your dog is itching more than usual and you had it groomed at Petco on redwood road I can guarantee you they have LICE!!! read more

Connie the manger is the worst person to be a manger of a pet store! She didn't care when I made her and her staff aware of the sick cat they had in the back that was laying in the litter box DROOLING AT THE MOUTH! Curtis also "tried" to help but forgot to come back and decided it wasn't important. This location should not be allowed to keep any kind of animal! The habitats are all dirty, the poor ferrets didn't have any food...it was filled with bedding!!! Connie then called the cops on us while we were just trying to help this sick cat out, cops of course treated us with the most disrespect but go figures. We wanted to adopt one of their cats also and they wouldn't let us. Told us to get our ferret food that we were there to purchase in the first place and leave... this staff had no idea how to care for animals, someone please tell me why this is even happening?! Thought this only happened at pet smart... Connie YOU need to be working in a warehouse with the way you speak to your paying customers! If I could give 0 stars I would. I drove 3 hours for an appointment to have my goldendoodle groomed and they turned us away. I was told to bring vaccination records, I brought the only vaccination records I have ever been given (paper pamphlet). Apparently, they need to be a printed record. It would be nice if someone would have clarified this so that I could have been prepared. The appointment was on a Saturday and I'm not about to call my vet on his day off for vaccine records!! Totally understand the policy but it sure would have been nice to know before driving 3 hours!! After the short amount of communication we had with them, as angry as we are that we wasted our day on the road, we realize that given their attitude we probably would not be happy with the end result anyway. I wish I could take away stars from this place. I found myself on a Friday, wishing my pappillion could be groomed before taking off for a weekend trip and kicking myself for not making an appointment sooner. I called our regular groomer, but they were all booked. Called another-- Booked. And a third-- Booked. They all explained that they fill up fast on the weekends. I think called Petco, and--- They had an opening. But not just any opening--- they told me I could bring him in at any time. I should of recognized this as a sign. I brought my dog in, and told the groomer that he just needed a wash and trim. I said that clearly, since he's a pappillion, to leave his ears and tail long, with the rest shorter... but overall--- just trim what he has. WOW... I was specific enough. All 8 inches of his hair around his ears was shaved off. I was so upset that I was crying. Then, when I asked for my money back, the groomer got very defensive and rude with me. Clearly, she can't put his hair back, but the least she could of done is refund my money. But no--- she refused. I refuse to ever return. And, I will be letting all of my fellow dog owners in the area not to go here. It's one thing to make a mistake, its another to not be able to admit it and work with a customer. read more

Very good variety of products for almost any animal. They are typically stocked with the high-end foods for cats/dogs, but prices are very high when compared to online or other retailers. Given, it is a tough market these days, but I have found many items that are over double what you would pay online. However, still great to have a place that you can go to, touch the products, talk to staff, and make your decision. read more

My husband and I always buy our dog's food from Petco, initially because of their "Buy 10 Get 1 Free" program (which saves us a lot of money considering we buy a $55 30 lb. bag of food every 2 weeks). This location, although not the most convenient, is where we prefer to go. We've yet to experience anything less than great service over the last 3 years. We have required some assistance a few times with various employees, all of which were beyond friendly and passionate about animals and their job. We've needed some extra assistance over the past month or so (due to our upcoming international move to Germany with the dogs) and Clyde has been beyond fabulous. We needed to have the Giant and XL travel kennels pulled off the top shelf to test our dogs in each kennel size. Clyde was very helpful and patient with us. He also alleviated my concern with having the proper sizes and quantities available when we needed to pick them up. I appreciate all the employees here and will miss this Petco when we leave the U.S. read more

My Favorite Petco! I absolutely LOVE this location! Whenever possible, I always go to this petco for all my needs. They are a lot bigger than the other Petcos, and seem much more cleaner and overall nicer. I've gotten lots of fish from here, and the employees always seem ready and eager to help. I've also gotten a ferret and hamster from here. Both experiences where wonderful! The employees were very knowledgeable and seemed to truly care about the animals they are selling- something a lot of petstores seem to lack. I'd also like to mention their cat room. Over half the time I ever go here, they have a volunteer in the cat room and so clearly the cats are getting a lot of time outside the "cage" to run around and play, which I believe is amazing. Overall, I'd recommend this store to just about anyone. read more

We had fairly good experiences in the past. We first met one of our adopted cats here. I was very disappointed more recently when they refused to allow us to visit another cat looking for a new home unless I committed in advance to adoption that same day. This is a very bad way to facilitate adoptions. It is incredibly irresponsible. I left a note and received no response from the manager. I can no longer recommend this place, and we have no plans to purchase anything from here in the future. read more

I don't see any recent reviews on the grooming salon! This place is awful! I figure a groomer is a groomer, right?! I've known someone to have had a bad experience at this store recently but I just picked up my own dog and I'm so upset! We bought a schnauzer because of his looks. I brought him into Petco for the first time after going to Petsmart with no problems! The first visit for a haircut the groomer Lori could only give him a bath and trimmed his toe nails $20. Sarah who is supposed to be the manager and a groomer said she wanted to try again in a few days as Lorie was new and needed more training. Both of these girls look 18. We drive back and forth with the dog again, no problem. We discussed the "normal schnauzer haircut" and I wanted the body very short and everything else cleaned up. We went to pick him up and Sarah completely shaved his whole body and legs! What?! When I asked why she did this, she said we discussed short. Brainless? My schnauzer looks like a chihuahua! Sarah said she'll "make a note"... and I said it's okay because we would probably not be coming back. Then Lori says under her breathe that "it's fine with her"! Very unprofessional! Thank the lord for Petco. I was on Tumblr, and someone posted a picture of a marimo, and then a little about them. I knew INSTANTLY I had to have a marimo, at all costs. I looked high and low on the internet, and knew that I could not wait the amount of time that it would take to ship them. I googled who would have them in Utah, and good ole' Petco came to my rescue. I jumped in my car and sped down, ran into the aquatic department, and ran around like a mad woman until I found the tank containing the marimos. There were a bunch of them in a pile, and then one by itself in the corner. I knew I needed the loner, but I had to find an employee first. It may have been because it was a Sunday, but it was actually hard to flag someone down. Once I had someone's attention, he was really nice and helped me pick out that lone marimo. I took my new pet up to the counter and the employee there was incredibly cheerful and nice. She held down a nice conversation while she rung me up, and I believe she gave be a $5 discount, I am not sure though. It has almost been a week, and I am still incredibly happy with my new marimo! I take my Pomerainian here to get groomed. Mickey normally does him. I've taken him to a few other places, but at Petco he always comes out looking cute, smelling good, and with no razor burn or other issues. They treat him good and do a great job cutting him. It isn't the cheapest I've found, but the extra money is well worth it. A normal grooming with bath and the spa package comes out to $68. My little guy needs this every 5-6 weeks, but his cuteness is worth it. read more

I just picked up my dog from petco, and all I have to say is, I'm so AMAZED with Sarah our groomer. She was so sweet and took such good care of my dog, Beans. When I saw him, he was so white and looked so clean! He was so happy and had that cutest bandana! She gave him a goodie bag and even had a card with a personalized note. She exceeded all of my expectations and even helped me pick out the best toothbrush/ gel for Beans. It was really easy to set up an appointment and I felt that they took great care of my pup! Montana was great!

I went in to buy a replacement filter cartridge and stopped by to look at the betta display as I always do. I saw one beautiful halfmoon betta that had a severe columnaris infection and felt terrible for it. It was marked premium and was $20.00, so no one was ever going to spend so much on it when it could die any day without treatment. I called over an associate and explained how sick the betta was, who then called over her manager. I explained to the manager that it obviously wasn't fair to pay $20.00 for the betta, but that I'd be willing to take it in and give it the antibiotics and antifungals it needed as well as a good home (a heated and filtered planted tank) if it survived if he would give me the fish for free OR for a reduced rate. He told me that I either had to buy it at full price without the normal return guarantee, or he was going to immediately take the fish into the back and euthanize it. I argued with him for several minutes, but he wouldn't back down and I walked out without buying the fish or the filter I had originally come for. As I walked out, I saw him take the fish into the back to kill it. I drove home crying. read more

Our kids are mounting a concerted effort to convince us that they need hermit crabs as pets. So, off to Petco we went, with some info from Google in hand. Michelle, at the West Jordan Petco, was awesome in giving us the info we needed, including being up front about what was needed and most importantly, what wasn't. Her help and the wide selection of products available at this store, allowed us to move forward in the great hermit crab debate of 2012. We will be back to this store when the decision is made to get the crabs. Overall, every experience we have had with this store has been very positive. Thanks Michelle for your friendly help. I recently shopped at this Petco in West Jordan, Utah for the first time. When arriving to the store I was very impressed by the cleanliness and greeting by Petco employees. Not more than 10 minutes of being in the store-- I heard a mans voice call someone retarded and demanded that this person do a better job re-stocking. I was totally shocked, and wanted to know who had said this. I went around the corner and saw that it was an employee of the store. This man then continued to degrade this female employee. I went to the front of the store to see if a manager was around, but first asked who the short man with glasses was-- and the cashier let me know that he was one of the MANAGERS of the store. I could not believe that a manager, who is a leader, could degrade someone like this. I was completely appalled and just left the store. This Manager needs to be disciplined and or fired. read more

I have to say, I'm not much for leaving reviews, good or bad, but our experience at this particular Petco was so incredible I just had to share. We bought our puppy three days ago and took him to get bathed and groomed, as well as buy some pet supplies for him. The moment we walked in the door we were greeted by a nice young woman marking things on the clearance rack. We walked into the grooming area to get our puppy clean and the staff there was amazing as well, they seem to genuinely care about the animals and were very kind and gentle with my nervous puppy. Jeanette had just walked in to start her shift, hadn't even clocked in yet or anything, and she stopped to answer questions for me. I hope i didnt make her late! Then the same kind woman who was marking the clearance rack gave us some killer deals at the check out line. I am beyond happy at the service that was provided. I told my husband that this store will be the place we always take our dog for grooming because I believe a store with great staff deserves loyal and regular customers. read more

I go to this Petco a lot--usually every week to every couple of weeks & really liked it; I kind of knew the employees from going there so much. Then, recently the re-vamped the store-moved everything around, which is fine & it even looks like they're carrying more products. However, apparently when they did this, they got all new employees too, as I didn't recognize a single person. Not too big of a deal, but I felt like I had just walked onto a used car lot. As soon as I walked in, the manager asked if I needed help which is fine, but I was in there maybe 45 min & I had been asked 4 more times by other employees working if I needed help. That's a bit much. It felt like every aisle I went down, I was stopped. I think there were maybe 2 customers in there at that time (including me-it was pretty dead in there) so I don't know if that's why they were so intent on 'helping' me, or if they get some kind of commission now? I'll try going there a couple more times, & if I keep having the same experience, I'll start going to Petsmart or try a different Petco instead. I wish the "old" employees were still there, as they would be around if I needed help, but not on me like a monkey on a cupcake as soon as you walk in. It feels different in there now, like it is a commission-type thing. Not good. read more
