They do an excellent job grooming and most groomers are very friendly. I usually only go for the teeth cleaning and nail trimming program and they treat me the same as those paying more for other services, unlike Petco on the UES of Manhattan. read more

I scheduled a vaccine appointment here two weeks in advance because the price seemed reasonable and the appointment was convenient. Unfortunately, the experience from the moment I arrived was extremely disappointing. The store itself appeared to be in serious need of cleaning. There were three employees on the floor, but it was very obvious that only one person was actually working while the other two seemed to be standing around. I then went over to the pet clinic and tried to get the technician's attention. She was standing inside the clinic at the technician's procedure table, drinking an iced coffee. This was especially concerning to me because this is the area where procedures are performed, and having a drink sitting there seemed completely inappropriate and unsanitary. When she finally acknowledged me, she simply pointed toward the line and said, "That's what that line is for." The issue is that the 7-8 other people waiting, myself included, had appointments and had specifically been instructed to arrive 10 minutes early for check-in. There was also another employee at a small pop-up stand who was not checking anyone in. While I was waiting, a dog that was off leash came over to me and then followed me and my cat all the way out of the store. The owner kept apologizing, but there didn't seem to be any urgency to get the dog under control. At that point, I decided to leave. The entire experience felt disorganized, unprofessional, and chaotic. I made an appointment ahead of time and expected a basic level of cleanliness, organization, and professionalism. Bright, neat and clean the store has a variety of items for pets. I was looking for some cleaning snails and fish for my tank. They have a wide variety but their snails seemed to be intermingled in a few tanks with the different fish making it a little harder to pick. I also wanted a small fish that ate the algae on the sides of the tank but they didn't seem to have I needed. There were plenty of other variety of fish but I wasn't looking to add more fish to my tank. read more

Let's start with the grooming. I asked the girl that took Enzo and Vinny to keep them on the longer side. She showed me a board with the different clips and I said the longest one. I said I wanted a typical doodle cut with the rounded poofy snout and rounded head. She said, a teddy bear cut? I said yes exactly! And the picture is how Enzo the big guy came out. She wasn't there when I picked him up and I said to the other girl, why is he still wet? She said bc he drooled on himself- what?! I've never heard of that and I've had him for 3 years. Enzo is looking like a mess- all different lengths on the paws, the face is completely ruined, and the body is SHAVED DOWN. Vinny on the other hand came out perfect and had a different groomer. I gave them the exact same instructions (but asked them to keep Vinny's Mohawk and she did). Then, I tried to buy a vest for Enzo. I asked the girl at the register- do you think it will fit my big guy being groomed ? She said yes but return it if not. Great. We tried it on him and it was way too big. I tried to return it and the guy at the register was completely useless. I asked him if he could see if there was a size L instead of XL and his answer was "you would see better than me you should go look". Thx, I did, I wanted you to look it up to see if there are any in the store. "Nah we don't do that". Ok cool, then return it. Him- stares blankly. Me- "are we all set?" Him- do you want to donate? Me "I already did I need to get my dogs out of here". Him: uhhhh.... I think it's all set. Dude. What. I'd give 5 stars to Vinny's groomer and negative stars for the rest of the experience. Very dissatisfied with the Waterford CT Petco puppy training. We paid for 6 sessions. We did receive a call from the trainer to cancel session 5, which was fine. We brought our puppy in the following week for the rescheduled session 5 only to find the training area blocked in with display stands. Asked an employee about our session and was told that there were no trainers in the store. Infuriated we asked for a refund for the last two sessions only to find out that there were no refunds after session 2. We were told that the trainer had called out for the day but we were never notified to reschedule the session. The manager indicated that the trainer would call us the following day. No phone call was received. We were offered a bag of dog treats for our 'inconvenience' which we declined as it seemed a poor attempt at reconciliation. Zero stars. My labradoodle is crying and was cut way too short on his belly last night when getting groomed. This looks like a surgical cut. We just wanted him shaved a little. He Has clipper burn, cuts and nicks on his belly. Not how we wanted to start our holiday week with family. Poor dog is uncomfortable. Called Petco and spoke to manager. They want us to bring him in and they'll apply aftershave (?!). Our vet is already recommending treatment. Manager Didn't want to see pictures or understand what happened. The groomer injured my 1 and 1/2 year old dog and said absolutely nothing about it. I took him in for his nails to be clipped and buffed yesterday. When I had him home I checked out his paws. The right front was bleeding from her cutting the quick and the others were a hairs thickness from bleeding. And, of course because my puppy was frightened after that, she didn't do the buffing. She charged me full price without mentioning the injury. I called the store at 2 pm yesterday to speak with the manager, Kevin, but was told he just stepped out and would call me back. I find myself becoming increasingly disappointed in Petco. I do not think I have entered a Petco that is clean, organized, and outstanding. The staff is usually either very strange and you'd never want to talk to them, or they are too busy talking to their friends to give a care about what you need. This particular Petco disappointed me because they are the first Petco I have walked into that did not offer the self pet-bathing station. My dog needs a bath, and we are currently staying in a hotel for the next two months, so we can by no means clean her in that bathtub. I always enjoy going in and seeing the fish and talking to the fish girl (her name escapes me, but she is young small and darkish hair). She's not only fun to chat with but has a vast amount of knowledge on everything with fish. The other employees are nice but do not seem to care like she does. She takes her time to explain the fish, food, temperatures, water changes, tank mates. I personally have seen her stop paperwork to take care of an ailing betta! Seems like she is always alone in the place but she cares about the fish she cares for then any store I have ever walked in to. I recommend this Petco for any enthusiast! From what I have seen the animals are kept in inhumane conditions. Several leopard geckos have dropped their tails, the rest of the reptiles seemed to be in too small cages, the rodents are kept in cages where they can barely burrow, too many birds are kept in one cage all together, there was at least one dead fish in the tank with the rest, etc. I can not believe that this is happening in such a large and successful chain of stores. I'm gunna have to give my Vetco experience 2 stars. I arrived at 9:30 in the morning to get in line for a rabies shot. I was told by an employee a few weeks ago to come in at 9:45am and it would cost me about 60 bucks. The vet doesn't show up until 10:30. Anywho-I was told I would be seen in 45 minutes to an hour. There were 5 people in front of me. So, I thought, "no big deal! We can go on a walk or whatever." They send you a text when it's "your turn" so my dog and I hung out outside for a while and an hour later, we went back in. I hadn't received a text message. I saw that the vet had arrived and I went and stood with the other owners waiting their turns. A nice lady came over to me and asked me my dogs name and started signing us up. At this point, it had been an hour and a half. But whatever. I get it. We talked about package options and it ended costing us $99 bucks. (Still way cheaper than his normal vet, but we didn't need anything fancy.) They weighed him and I asked how much longer they thought it might be. "There's 7 people in front of you, sooo.... a half an hour? Maybe?" I THEN got my text message. ...................... For real? How is that possible if I counted that I was the 6th person in line and a couple dogs had already been seen????????????? I mean, wut? Anyway-at this point, my dog was over it, thirsty, and frustrated. (He's 8).. and so am I. I texted my husband and told him I might just come home and make an appointment with his normal vet. The only reason I tried this was because it's so much closer to home and he only needed one shot. ‍ By the time we got in the clinic, the vet wasn't very friendly or personable. She had to ask the tech how many blood drops a snap test took, (He didn't even need a heartworm test but felt pretty pressured to get one...) and she looked like she had just rolled out of bed. The terror on my dogs face while they were holding him is a look I'd never seen from him before. Overall, it took us 2 hours and 45 minutes total, and the experience was terrible. It might be a little cheaper, but even if you only need a rabies shot, go to your normal vet. This was SCARY. It was cheap as hell, but NOT EVEN IN THE LEAST BIT WORTH IT. Never. Again. I feel like an asshole because my dog was so stressed out. read more

I bought 5 GloFish Tetras from here just over a week ago. One immediately looked sick (curved spine) and I exchanged it for a healthy fish from a different tank. However, 2 others have died suddenly a couple days apart and I have been testing the water to make sure it was not a water quality issue. Petco is not treating incoming GloFish properly to eliminate disease so buyer beware. Go somewhere else for well cared for fish, such as Colchester Pet Shop. They were precise and detailed when answering my questions about starting both a fresh and saltwater water aquarium and are consistently very helpful with proper care tips about feeding, housing, and general owning of my veiled chameleon. Once I did find someone, she was fairly helpful in offering some suggestions for little accent fish to go with my newly acquired Siamese fighting fish. As I did not have or want a paws reward card...whatever that is...the cashier was nice enough to swipe the complimentary store card so that I could get the sale price on my neon tetras. But again....no cashier was at any checkout lane and I had to wait over a minute for one to show up. Yes I timed it. I almost left the fish and walked out. This store is a nightmare. We came for the vaccination clinic at 9:30 for a 10:30 clinic. There were over 100 people in line at 11:30 and the vet never showed up. The techs working in line, while not at fault for the absent vet, were rude, and didn't seem to understand that 100 dogs were getting impatient and peeing after waiting in line for over 2 hours. No one had a number for the vet, and they looked at me as if I had two heads when I asked it there was a backup on call vet. The last time we were here we also waited 2 hours even though we were in the front of the line. While in theory a good idea, vetco is completely incompetent and clearly has no regard for their customers and their pets. I will never again return to this store. read more

We came in to the vetco services today for my dog to finish her last shot. The vet isn't even here and it is supposed to start at 10:30am. The vet tech man that is taking paperwork can barely complete a sentence and does not control the line. Dogs are out of control because the line doesn't move. I came three weeks ago and waited an hour and a half with three people in front of me. Even the vet techs complain about the vet who is disrespectful to everyone showing up this late. read more

After getting my Golden Retriever groomed on Monday, she was listless and feverish on Tuesday. Wednesday and Thursday she was a little better but would not allow us to touch her back. After going to the vet we found her back was covered in sores and scratches which the vet said we're most likely from the groomer. The next day we went back to the location to discuss this with the groomer and get reimbursed for our grooming service and preferably the vet visit they caused. After talking to her groomer, Billie, she said it was not their fault because they did not trim her back, only washed. The vet had explained that she probably had an allergic reaction to whatever shampoo they used. She immediately left us without a word and we waited for fifteen minutes until we were approached again by Billie and and store manager on duty. He began to state over exactly what she said and arguing with our concerns. Because they did not trim her back and we "ok'ed" her by leaving the store that Monday they did nothing to help. Needless to say they will never get another dime from any of our family or friends. For such a large company that claims to care about pets so much they could not even manage to give us a credit for our troubles. Ridiculous! Petco is NOT where the pets should go. read more

I would rate this store 0 stars if I had a choice. I recently bought a fish and two hours later it died because the employees at Petco didn't care to tell me anything about this fish. It was a clownfish and they sold me a 1 gallon tank with it and never said anything about whether it needed to be in salt water or fresh water. I spoke to the manager, June about this and all she said was, "we don't do refunds." It's sad that all these people care about are their money, not the lives of their animals. No one seemed upset or cared about the dying fish and watched it die in a plastic bag of freshwater, rather than trying to save it and give it some saltwater. The manager did not apologize, but made my family and I feel as if it were our fault for not asking about the fish. THEY are the employees, they need to explain what each fish needs when a customer is purchasing it. It is THEIR responsibility. How dare they try to make their customers feel guilty, when they're already coming in their store with tear filled eyes, when it is the employees fault. A pet store should care about their animals and their families, not money. I do not recommend for anyone to go to this store. I was also hung up on when calling about my dying fish twice. DO NOT go to this store. You are better off trying to help your animal yourself. The service is horrific, the worst I've ever had, and the workers and manager don't care about you or your animals. read more
