It's hard not to fall in love with each and every fuzzy face! I honestly wish I could take all of them home with me. It's really nice to see a store supporting pet adoption and helping animals find loving homes! Attention doggie owners: there's a self-service dog wash station. The cat house is amazing, and I loved how many cats were able to free roam around the offices and large room. So, I decided to start volunteering. In the couple of weeks I've been volunteering, I've been impressed with the staff. They work so hard and are so helpful to anyone who comes in. They genuinely care about the work they do and every single fur ball they meet. The place is so clean without having that whole medicinal and cold vibe you see in some shelters. The cats are generally happy and have all sorts of enrichment opportunities at their disposal. Five Acres also does a ton of services for the community. There's an entire area and staff dedicated solely to helping pet owners in need. That's awesome for anyone struggling to get back on their feet.

Then staff knows each dog and they treat each dog individually because they are all different. They love your dog, they watch them, and they take the best care of your dog everyday. The staff are the same people all the time and they all love dogs and it shows. My dog wants to go and will pull me in the door. That says a lot! He goes to daycare, gets a bath and brushing and teeth brushing, he also boards when needed. We have been going to Baxter's for over a year. We have an 1 1/2 year old Aussie and we also have a 17 year old fragile little Shitzu poodle and both are taken care of perfectly. I can't recommend Baxter's enough and all the reason above are why! They are amazing and they are affordable too! NOTE: This was OUR experience with other places ..... I took my dog to a big place for daycare and boarding , and also a chain place for day care. What I found out was that my dog wasn't getting to play and was being put in a kennel most of the day and no one was telling me at the big place. At the chain place he was just a number, staff was ever changing and not as personable and I wasn't getting the vibe I wanted there. Anyway, I was needing to go out of town and called Baxter's they listen to me on the phone, we took him for a free daycare day and then boarded him. They took excellent care of my dog and treated him like family and we have been going ever since. I hope this helps anyone looking for great care of their dog. They have cats and dogs for adoption! They give you time to acclimate the pets. There are volunteer opportunities. All the staff members are willing to help you. There are tons of resources here. I've only list of the ones that I saw on the signs. I have personally never adopted from here, but I do come to volunteer and donate, and I have always loved how pleasant the staff is always so kind!

We currently have our third and fourth Dirk's Dogs. Linc and Fitz are Great Pyrenees and were…read moreadopted as a bonded pair. Large dogs are not for everyone, Linc is 125 lbs. and Fitz is 130. But they are sweet and gentle as can be. Good with children and other dogs. If you want more than one dog, I highly encourage you to adopt a bonded pair. It is interesting because they cannot stand to be separated, but I think they bonded more strongly to us as a result. One of the nice things about adopting from Dirk's is the dogs and potential adopters are vetted very well. When we adopted our first, a volunteer was out walking Dakota. He warned me that Dakota might not warm up to me, as he was a bit shy. I sat on the ground and talked to him and within two minutes he was in my lap. The volunteer said it looks like he picked you. When we went to talk to Mr. Tillay he told us Dakota would do better with another dog in the house and that the liked puppies. I went into a run with him and a dozen puppies. Dakota picked our Louie. Where else do the volunteers know the dogs so well? When we adopted Linc & Fitz, Mr. Tillay encouraged us to look at them. We talked with the Volunteer who knew them best. It was love at first sight. Some people find the owner vetting a bit off putting, but I think it is for the best. The organization just wants to be sure the adaptor and pets are a good match. If you decide to go look, take the time to talk with the volunteers about the dogs and their personalities. If you are looking for a Large Breed Dog, I highly encourage you to visit Dirk's.

This is the third time someone I know was turned down by these people for absolutely no reason she went up and visited this dog and fell in love with him. They want these babies to have a good home but yet when a decent person wants to adopt one they put her and her fiancé through a million hoops then gave the dog to someone else. SHAME ON EVERYONE OF YOU THERE. I will NEVER PROMOTEthis place TO ANYONE EVER AGAIN. They are ridiculous. Also I will tell anyone they will listen exactly what they do, that dog would have had more love than he could stand my daughter and her fiancé are the best fur baby parents there are. So then they adopted him out to someone with another dog ( which is also not allowed) now the poor baby is back at the shelter confused. Oh and the most rude and hateful is this woman named Diane she hangs up on people, she blocks people so they don't know the name of the rude person BUT that's her name she's despicable avoid her and this place.
