Ok so this is my second review for petco after they told me they couldn't groom my dog, I made an appt with pet smart which gladly gave me a next day appt. I was told by Petco my dog was a nipper and I should take it to the vet to have a vet cut his hair. After taking my dog to pet smart I asked how my dog behaved they said he was s sweet heart and well behaved I mentioned what I was told by Petco and they were surprised and was told they didn't have not one problem and added maybe he was ruffed up at petco and thats why they had an issue with him. I don't see myself going back not even for food or toys.... This is awful ..!!!! and im going to add after speaking to my coworker about this she told me her cousin works for Petco and does not trust her own dogs because they are mean to the dogs... This store refused to groom my dog because she was old (14) and had a knee injury (ACL). I was told that the injury could be aggrievated. Talk about a total corporate butt cover. I am so furious. They had groomed her several times before, knowing full well she had the injury. My daughter is in tears because her dog needs to be groomed because of the heat. F--- Petco. read more

I went to purchase some all natural anti-itch spray for my dog that has allergies. I couldn't locate it on the shelf with all the products they have. Tatiana who works there is a GEM. She located 2 products for me & explained the difference. I will be back. read more

Everything was fine until I got to the Cash Register.I was with my older brother and my 2 month old puppy and we went to pay for a dog tag and kong toy. the lady that was at the counter told me that she had a puppy and the guy who gave the girl the puppy said he had shots but he didnt and the puppy died. This Petco location is updated and well organized. Welcoming and helpful staff. Never had any issues and i come here at least once a week. The gem is Adam from Grooming Department!! My dog is a Dachshund mix and has a lot of anxiety when it comes grooming. He doesn't let me cut his nails without whole drama just to put it into perspective. However, here Adam is so sweet and was able to find a way to work with him and he does it so well!! My dog behaves very calm and feels comfy around him. We go there once a month and Rusty looks beautiful and fresh every time he lives Petco!! read more

This is a great PetCo. The people are friendly and helpful. I came to this store because I had a fish issue and this store has a lot of aquatic products sized for ponds. It isn't the biggest PetCo, but it works. The parking is easy and right out front. The lines move quickly. read more

Not sure why I keep coming back to this one: their stock is limited, poor layout, parking sucks - spaces way too small and often people taking two spaces, and the staff isn't as attentive as other Petcos. Lesson learned and remembered! read more

So nice. Great customer service from Christian and Alfonso. I needed pet stairs for my dog who keeps hurting her legs when she jumps from the couch. The only ones left were the store display. The manager not only agreed to sell them to me but gave me a discount because it was a display unit. Petco has a great return policy which means that even if I can find it cheaper on Amazon, it's better to buy at my local Petco! read more

I shop here about twice a month for my dog supplies and we both enjoy our trip to this location. Staff is friendly and knowledgable about the items they sell. If there is a line to checkout it's usually very fast. Store is clean and well stocked.. What more can I say? I love coming to this location and then I go next door for a bottle of wine. Got a new puppy so since it was the closes store from the freeway we went to purchase a lot of stuff for a new puppy. We walk in and was greeted. Had questions about puppy food and good luck finding customer service in here. Walk the whole store and found one person ask him a question and he didn't know anything about dog food or anything. We had a basket full of puppy stuff but no customer service so we left the store and went somewhere else were they can help us! read more

My son received a Beta fish for the holidays. We came in to purchase the necessary equipment to support having the fish. My husband and I had such a great experience dealing with Keith in the aquarium area! He was so knowledgeable and helped us pick out several items that we needed. The help here is Ok, but the Manager, Danielle is not so good.I don't usually go to Petco because they sell sick live animals. But I need an ID tag for my dog and I knew they have a machine. I pay my $14. and make up the tag and they give me a ring too small to use.I ask to see the mgr. they call she doesn't come. I look for her ,she's in an aisle stocking food. I ask her how I'm suppose to fit the tag on a collar with a small ring?She starts to show me how to put the ring on the tag like I'm one of her stupid cousins.Not to mention she has 4 people stocking and 1 cashier with a line 6 deep.I threw the ring on the floor and left. read more

This place is my emergency stop if Tams in Tarzana is closed. Large store but not a good selection when it comes to holistic foods and their prices are simply ridiculous. Their staff is friendly and professional but it's pretty clear that they are told what to say and how to act. read more

I just bought a beta fish and I decided to go buy a water plant for him. I went to the aquatic section and waited for awile. No one came so I decided to ask someone for help. The employees would avoid eye contact with me and when I finally got to ask someone for help they took a long psy and said they would get someone to help me. I went back to the aquatic section and waited again and when the employee finally got there I found out that anothe person was waiting for help before me. They need to improve their customer service or else they'll end up losing them. read more

I made made an appointment to get my puppy groomed but when I went, they put him in a cage. I wasn't okay with the fact that my puppy was going to be in a cage until it was his turn to get washed. Adam was able to assist me and reschedule for another day where his grooming would be rushed (it's extra but worth it). It only took about an hour instead of the 3-4 hours it would have originally took. Adam was super sweet and I felt comfortable having my puppy in his hands. After he was finished, he explained everything he did and answered any questions I had.Definitely recommend paying the additional amount for the rush grooming. Would come here again! read more

Go to another Petco. Avoid this one. Came in today to return an unopened bag of Carefresh Pet Bedding we had purchased at another Petco. The cashier called the "manager" and I guess his name is Jeffrey so he asked for my receipt which I no longer had. Per Petco's policy online it states that returns without a receipt are issued a merchandise store-credit for the listed store price OR allowance to exchange the product for something else. The "manager" arrives and says he could not give me store-credit because he said that my bag was purchased "online" and they did not have that same one in-store. I never once mentioned I had bought it online, which I didn't anyway. So, I went to their small animal aisle and they had THE SAME bag I brought. I confronted him and let him know they DID have that same bag. He then replied "Oh I can't accept the return because I had a sale not too long ago for buy one get one free". Of course, assuming I am returning the "free" one. Also, not true. Why didn't he say that from the very beginning?? Instead, he's changing his excuse as to why he cannot accept my return. Heard a lot of negative complaints about the grooming and not having knowledge about pets/services. I went today and Yazmin was VERY helpful AND knowledgeable! She answered my questions and concerns about my dog and her nails. I would definitely go back again and I feel comfortable knowing my baby is being taken care of and treated right. She diffused the situation immediately. She was incredibly apologetic, very polite, and had wonderful customer service skills. I've been a patron of this location since June 2007. I have 2 dogs and utilize the groomer's there. My dogs require maintenance hair cuts and we go their on average every 2-3 months for grooming. I don't make in advance appointments and for the most part I've been able to schedule same day appointments. Weekends tend to book quickly, if you can take your dog during the week day that may be a better bet. To be completely honest, I have been unhappy with the haircuts given to my dogs. Twice their cuts were very choppy looking, like when a Kindergartener is learning how to cut paper. The best person there is a groomer named Karen. If you can book with her I'd recommend it. If you have no preference than they will schedule whomever is available... With regards to the store, they've recently renovated and the place looks great. As far as prices goes, I think they are on the high side but similar to other pet stores. I find that at times I can purchase the same items at Target or a grocery store for about 1-2 dollars less. I am fed up with the Petco in Van Nuys. First at Petco I pay a higher price for my dog's food than I do at other pet supply stores. Second the first time this afternoon when I called to make an appointment for a dog grooming the employee at the checkout counter hung up on me. Then when I called back it took ten minutes before I was connected to the grooming department. Finally when I reached the grooming department I was put on hold for ten minutes. At that point I hung up! I do not recommend this Petco. There are plenty of animal supply and grooming stores in the Sherman Oaks/Van Nuys area. read more

What a horrible experience we had last week. We get our dog groomed every 3-4 weeks by a professional groomer nearby. We decided our dog didn't need a full grooming this time since he was in good shape, and settled on Petco since we saw they offer baths for $27. My husband was told that my dog was too matted for a bath - a complete lie to get us to pay them for full service. My husband told them to not cut our dogs eyelashes as our vet advised us they should be left alone as they protect his eyes. Upon pickup, not only did they shave him to the extent we needed to after we adopted him last year (he was abandoned and was actually in bad shape), but THEY CUT OFF ALL HIS EYELASHES! $75 for the service and my dog was traumatized. He wouldn't eat or drink for 48 hours afterwards and my husband was forced to sleep with him because he wouldn't stop crying. Do not take your animals to this place. They clearly are not trained and just shave down your pet to make a quick buck. Absolutely disgusting. read more
