What rude sales clerks. Unbelievable transaction last week. I was buying food and supplies for my new rescue puppy. It was first thing in the morning and I waited forever to get my turn at the checkout because the cashier couldn't get into the system. Finally, I did. She rang up my foods, I paid, but then realized that the bag of puppy food had been slit open, and re-taped, so I said I'd like to swap it for a non-damaged bag. She gathered my purchases, put them behind her and nodded to me to go get another. 5 seconds later, when I returned, I was informed that I would have to wait my turn in the line again to make a return. IT WAS THE EXACT SAME PRODUCT!!!!!!!!!!! She wouldn't just let me put it with my purchases and leave behind the damaged bag. She had to do a return, put in my petco pals number again, mess with this and that AFTER I waited for her to wait on 3 more people. I rarely lose my cool, but this made me furious. Later that day I stopped in at Petsmart for treats: NICEST PEOPLE!!!!! GAVE ME A BOOKLET OF COUPONS AS A THANK YOU FOR ADOPTING A RESCUE PUP. Guess where I'll be shopping from now on. read more

So disappointed in this company. I bought a harness for my dog that didn't fit. Brought it back to exchange with all tags, clearly never worn, and they refused to even let me exchange it for a different size. This policy needs changing for extreme circumstances where dogs can't come in to try harnesses on. 27$ down the drain on my end, but Petco lost a regular customer forever. Figure out how to make these situations right, not screw over your good customers. read more

I had a question about some food options for my puppy. He has had some digestive problems recently and I wanted to know for certain if the brand of food i was going to give him was ok for him to eat. I already gathered all the information before hand and just wanted to have a second opinion. So I ask one of the girls near by and she said she is going to get her manager to confirm. So when the manager arrived she asked me questions like "have you changed your dogs food? Or giving him any new treats?" So I said "I got some dog treats from target but don't remember what brand it was." But I knew it was a healthy brand just couldn't remember the name. So when I said that she rolled her eyes at me and said "you really need to look at what you give your dog" me being polite didn't even respond to that rude gesture. I was annoyed but kept it civil. I just think that Petco management shouldn't assume that people aren't taking care of their dogs. They don't know what's going on at home so maybe next time lady you should keep it professional and not be so judgmental. Last time I'm going to this Petco. read more

Since they didnt have their business hours listed on yelp, i called them at 2am thinking an automated voice teller would tell me their info and hours but a female(guessing the owner) picked up and told me their hours, if i woke you up sorry lady haha. Overall great store if you have pets, or need accessories. I come here once a week to buy a rat for my red tail boa. The workers are friendly and helpfull. I brought my beautiful schnoddle dog here to have a bath and his coat trimmed and they completely shaved all of his hair off! Not at all what I asked for and I was charged seventy dollars for it. I took my maltepoo for a bath and haircut. When I took my dog home. I saw my dog sad and wouldn't eat. I started checking her to see if she had been hurt and she had a black eye that was barely noticeable due to her fure. Also, her ear was bleeding from the edge like if they had cut it wrong. This lasted for at least 2 weeks. My dog was sad and wouldn't eat. This is a horrible place to take your pets to. read more

I went here to buy two boxes of the Purina advanced training pads. I had asked this girl in glasses for a big bag to put theses items in, because I had always received one from other cashiers. Instead, she just stood there and told me that she didnt have any, bagged each box in those small bags, which barely fit, and told me "sorry". She was too lazy to get out of her check out counter to find a big bag, but she was "sorry". Now I remember why I hate Petco. I wish that a Petsmart would be built here in Sherman Oaks. read more

I brought my mom here to get food for her service dog and I would say that the service was very good! They offered her dog a treat and he loved walking around. The only thing is that I did see dog pee where they did not clean up hence the 4 stars. Also their prices are a bit high for dog food. read more

First off let me say that this has to be the most unprofessional Petco I have ever been to the first time I purchased here I bought fish for my tank and it turns out the fish had ick and killed all my other fish so not only did it cost me money to buy the fish that killed all my other fish that I had so I lost money by coming here so I decided to give them another shot recently and bought a heater for my 30 gallon fish tank the girl said this heater would work for 30 gallon had in my tank for a week and it never warmed the water so had to return it ..another girl told me that it would never heat a 30 gallon fish tank so apparently their sales people are not educated on their products ..so I return the item only to be told that I would not receive my money back for 7 days into my account . 7 days came and gone it's now been a month and I'm still waiting to receive my refund I will never shop at the PETCO again beware check your account if you're returning something. read more

I've bought 3 beta fish and 4 guppies from this location now. I know I know how to care for them, as I inherited a beta from a friend that moved away and it lived for 2 years (after she'd had it for almost 3). As for guppies, I've taken care of countless fish in my brother's aquarium after he'd gotten bored. Yet they've all died within 3 weeks of purchasing them. 1 or 2 fish, I can understand. They're delicate animals and the shock of new environments can be enough to do one in. But EVERY purchase??? Come on now. And each time I try to get help, I have to wander the floor looking for someone for at least 5-10 minutes. It's not that the people on the floor are helping other people; they're just NOT THERE. I was thrilled when one employee started grilling me on how I'd cared for my last beta that'd died (after the first week). I thought maybe he knew what he was talking about and could help me to pick out a healthy fish. Instead, he told me that I'd killed my beta because I'd replaced all of the water in my bowl. I've done lots of research on betas, and the males tend to dirty their water quite badly. If you only change a percentage of the water, the bowl will grow all kinds of yuck and you won't be able to see your fish and check if he's healthy. The employee just shrugged and said he'd had his own beta for a "whole" 2 months. Great. Bad service (and probably sick fish). Don't really know how the rest of the store is. read more

I WISH I CAN PUT a 0 STAR! Even one star is too much for this place! I payed $50 AND GOT RIPPED OFF! It was my first time bringing in my dog Lala in today she's a maltese poodle a small dog I had made an appointment for her to get washed as well as the spa treatment. And for those of you who have never brought in your dog to get washed here, GOOD JOB! You'll seriously regret it!! Anyway a few hours later I got in a call to come pick up my dog, I went to pick up my dog and SHE WAS NOT WASHED! The way I took her in is the same way I got her back. The only thing they did do was brush out her hair and they sprayed the watermelon scent on her. She did not look clean, her nails were not trimmed, she was not washed, her teeth were not brushed which was included in the spa treatment. After the groomer was done, I asked her if they even washed her because her hair was super dooper curly! And I even asked her to trim her nails "again" because they were way too long. She said "oh if I trim it more it'll bleed". I said "go ahead and try it I doubt it'l bleed". And so she trimmed it and my dogs nails DID NOT BLEED so therefore she did not even trim my dogs nails when she claimed she did from the beginning. After a wash my dogs hair is always straight , every time I take my dog to other groomers like Tailwashers her hair is always straight when I pick her up! But when I picked up Lala her hair was so fuzzy and not straight it only looked like it was just brushed. I got ripped off! And so I spoke to the manager and directly told her my dog does not look clean, her skin is not pure white when its always pure white after a wash, the trim on the ass was not even done, the only thing they did do was brush out her hair. Petco's service sucks! For the money you give you won't get that quality your dog deserves! Seriously save your time AND money go to another groomer! I highly recommend Tailwashers even though its a bit upscale I GUARANTEE YOU WILL BE HIGHLY SATISFIED! AND YOUR DOG WILL BE WASHED ahem unlike Petco where pets don't go :] And since they get so busy over the weekend they really do not take care of your dog! If you don't believe this statement stay and watch, you'll see! I'm glad I got my money back though! read more

The staff is extremely friendly and helpful but when you deal with their store manager, she is the worst. I think her name is Felicia or something like that. I was looking for a specific diet food for my cat and when i asked the store manager if they would have it in stock in the future she looked me up and down as I was bothering her. She asked someone else to help me out. When I asked her to take a few minutes to answer my question she responded by saying that that was not her job. Looking at the definition of a Store Manager it states "A retail manager is the person ultimately responsible for the day-to-day operations (or management) of a retail store. All employees working in the store report to the retail manager". She was rude, unfriendly, and so unprofessional. I don't understand how someone like that can keep a job in customer service. Maybe Petco does not care about how management treats their customers. The only reason I will continue to shop here is because the staff is extremely professional and helpful. Their dog training course is amazing! My dog was so vicious and would bite my family and I, but after the 6 week course with the trainer Julie, my dog is so good! He listens to us and doesn't give us a hard time! She is the true dog whisperer! Very happy with the results! read more

This Petco needs major training in customer service. I was told by a manager (Xavier) that I needed to have a physical receipt to exchange a damaged no bark collar that I paid $120. I actually bought two but the other was working fine. I recently purchased them and only had them for a couple of days. I explained to him that I don't have the physical receipt right now because it's in our other vehicle but I have a picture of it on my iPhone. He still refused to assist me for exchange without physical receipt. I went home to read up on Petco return policy and it clearly states; "Returns without a receipt or made after 60 days are eligible for in-store only merchandise credit equal to the lowest company-wide price at which the returned products were sold." I returned to the store with a printed return policy that I pulled from Petco.com website and showed it to him. He replied that I was very rude for printing the policy and showing it to him. WOW!!! If management doesn't know their return policy, then they need more training or replaced. The good news is that I waited that evening when I was able to get the original receipt and I went back and returned both dog collars in the amount of $240. Not only did they lose my business, but I noticed on competitor websites that Petco was $20-$40 more expensive than other stores for the same collars. And what's the point of using Petco account for purchases if management is unwilling to check to see if it was purchased. read more

I have taken my dog to this Petco grooming location for years. The groomers had known my dog by name and always took such excellent care of him. Today, we took our dog in for an appointment as usual. We had asked them not to shave his back like they have usually done and instead only trim his skirt. A simple, straightforward request. When we picked him up not only was his back shaved but so too was his skirt. His beautiful skirt; entirely removed after explicitly being asked not to. He looked awful. A little background, my dog is a Westie and any groomer should have known that trimming a Westie's entire coat would look awful (he now looks like a rat as they shaved his hair so short you can see his skin!). My dog is 15 years old and deaf and now he is wandering the house confused as to why he cant lick the fur on his paws like he is accustomed to doing because, well, there is no fur to lick. We were told that the reason none of the old groomers - who usually took care of my dog and would have known better than to shave him - were not around was because this location was under new management and the team had been replaced. Well, in addition to replacing management and the grooming staff this location now needs to replace its customer base as I will NEVER take my dog back here again. read more

I was there for exchanging the tank/aquarium that my kids got as a Christmas present. but the manager on duty, whose name was alfonso, rejected to do the exchange in spite of petco's return/exchange policy. and the explanation was "I want so.....".....helloooooooooo....... of course I went to another petco where I was treated as a normal customer. but I am going to report this accident to bbb.com, and to petco's complaints department. read more

I took my little Pit Bull Monster here to get her nails trimmed/filed. The price was very reasonable...10 dollars for a trim or 15 for a dremel which is filing the nails with a small machine. My girl is VERY SWEET but HIGH ENERGY and STRONG like all Pits....Joel and Angelica, the techs, were GREAT. They did it while I waited, and my dog was a couple of feet away---so I could see what was going on...Angelica came out and you could tell right away that she loves dogs and my dog responded to her very well. They put her on the table (my dog, not Angelica ;-) ), and I thought for sure this would be high drama, but because Angelica and Joel had such a good vibe and were gentle, my dog didn't stress much at all --this was my dog's first time in such a situation, so she had a little stress but it was WAAAAY BETTER than I ever expected, and much better than doing this with my vet with his temperamental front office lady who has been charging me a boatload to trim her nails. I gave Joel and Angelica a good tip, and it was a happy day for all. Will definitely bring my girl back to deal with Joel and Angelica for more services. read more

Like Carly M, I was pleasantly surprised by the very helpful and friendly service provided at this Petco by a young woman named Kayla. I made two back-to-back visits to this store today---one with the dog, one with the cat, and both with my preschool-age son in tow---to get properly sized travel kennels for an upcoming flight with our pets. Kayla spent considerable time on a busy holiday weekend helping us to fit each pet to the appropriately sized kennel, and she also went out of her way to track down accessories like bedding, calming aids and food & water bowls. She was so nice to our pets, to my son and to me that I felt she really deserved her own rave review on Yelp. In the past, I have had mediocre to not-so-great experiences at this Petco location, but they now appear to have at least one customer service superstar on staff. As Carly M. suggested, definitely ask for Kayla if you go here; she will hook you up! read more

I am writing about the animals they care for in this place. The fish were kept in tiny containers, barely moving. The other smaller animals were huddled up in corners trying to be away from the people coming and going. This place clearly DOES NOT take into account animal needs whatsoever. I wanted to buy a few gifts for other people, but could not morally support a store like this. I'd rather give it all to Centinela pet and feed, they are only about rescue groups and not trying to make a buck on the expense of a living creature. read more

Great manager. Several weeks ago I went in to return a water dish as it claimed to be rust free, but I noticed a few rust spots starting to appear inside the bowl. Being probably more then 2 years old, I told the manager it was guaranteed not to rust but it did. They no longer stocked the water dish I had but had a similar one a little more expensive. i offered to pay the difference but the manager did an even exchange. I've been a loyal customer here for over 2 years. And recently I've noticed some changes. This is the SECOND day in a row where I was so upset from waiting that I just left. No one is on the floor assisting customers; due to lack of staff. I asked the manager, mike, if he could help us in the aquarium section (all we wanted was a moss ball for our fish). When he got there he helped someone else with feeder fish (which takes longer than what we needed) and then he LEFT US to help other customers. We waited for another 15min. STILL NOTHING. I went over to the register and asked mike if I could get some help and that I've been waiting for some time. Then he has the nerve to say that he'll help me when he's done with the people in line. I look over and see 8 people in line. There were two other cashiers, I think it would of been ok for him to assist customers that had questions or needed assistance instead of leaving the floor empty of employees. He didn't even say sorry for the inconvenience. He spoke to me like I was unimportant and lacked to much customer service I was appalled that he was the store manager. read more

We bought a hamster for our son with everything to provide it a good home. unfortunately it died after 4 days. The staff was very helpful, so I will say the in store experience was great, just not happy about the hamster dying after only a few days. It broke our son's heart. We were able to return everything we bought without hassle, though the store did try to say that we must have mishandled the hamster. yet it was in the cage the whole time as we were advised to let it get used to its surroundings before trying to handle it. We followed their instructions and the only thing we can think of is the little hamster may have been sick when we got it. read more

Actually, this is the best PetCo I have been to. The prices are a bit high, but they will match a lower price. The employees are nice, especially Brenda, and overall, if you are a regular, there is a familal sense that is unusual for a chain pet store. Frankly, I have never seen them rude or dismiss a customer, unless they are a crazy, and even then, they are patient. read more

TERRIBLE experience with the grooming salon at Petco Sherman Oaks; Anna is horribly rude person. I will never return nor recommend to anyone to go to get their dog groomed here. After recently moving to the LA area, I had always had a great experience with having my dog groomed at Petco, so I felt comfortable taking her to the one in Sherman Oaks. I had an apt for my 5lb dog to get groomed at 10:30am with Anna. Anna had a poor attitude right off the bat. She didn't make eye contact with me during the consultation and showed no interest in my dog, her job or any questions I had for her. After taking 4hrs and 45min, I decided to stop by the store to see how much longer my dog would be (I was informed it would take 3-5 hrs). When I arrived I kindly asked about my dog and all three groomers, including Anna, looked like a bunch of deer caught in the headlights and had no recollection of my dog. I had to thoroughly explain what she looked like and then Anna rudely hollered "5hrs is at 3:30, you can come back then". Totally taken back, I walked out. I came back to the store at 3:45pm (still no call that my dog was done) and I shopped around until I received a phone call at 3:55pm stating my dog was finished. I told Anna that I was in the store so I would be right there. As I walk into the grooming area, a groomer (who I later found out was the manager) hit Anna on the shoulder to keep her quiet and said "Shh, she is right there". Obviously Anna was talking about me...rude! Anna impatiently handed my dog to me, made no eye contact, said nothing about how my dog was and said nothing about the service. I thanked them and then got a rude "THANKS!" shouted right back. Such a disappointing experience to be treated with such attitude and terrible customer service. I informed the manager at the store about my experience and I am happy to say he was not happy and he said he would discuss it with the groomers. read more

My mom and I have been coming to this petco for a few years now and I just want to acknowledge something I saw today. As we were with the cashier at the front (didn't get his name but he was very nice) the manager (Keith) came over to help discount an item, he was RUDELY interrupted by a old woman who started yelling and making a scene because she felt like Keith wasn't giving her the attention she deserved. LOL. He is a manager, he has to run multiple things at once, and he handled the situation the best he could, much better than I would have. He simply helped his coworker discount something that would have taken 2 seconds but since she opened her mouth and didn't shutup his time was being taken up. Every time we have came into this store it has been nothing but good. Customers can be difficult, lets all remember, dont be an ass just because you aren't happy, much better ways of handling situations, and thank you to Keith and the rest of the staff for being great! read more

I called Petco to make an apt. to get my cats TRIMMED. They are main coons so they are naturally long haired, beautiful cats. I spoke with Alyssa the only cat groomer and made an appointment. I wasn't very detailed on the phone because I figured when my boyfriend dropped our cats off, he would tell them what we wanted. When he got there, there was no paper work like there usually is at other groomers, asking about the type of cut you want. Alyssa asked him if he wanted a regular cut, or a lion cut. He made it very clear that he did NOT want a lion cut so he said regular cut. When he picked them up, my once beautiful, fluffy cats were completely SHAVED, (shaved and cut are two completely different things) AND they look like lions. She left fur on the end of their tails, on their heads, and fur on their four paws-they look like they are wearing boots. The rest of their bodies are completely shaved. I have NO idea why my boyfriend paid them, he was wrong. I'm certainly glad he didn't give her a tip. My cats are not show cats. So appalled at this. I will never step foot in this petco again-all thanks to Alyssa. Next time, listen to your customers. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would! This is the closest Petco to my house so I went in looking for a specific item(a calming collar for my dogs anxiety). I looked for it myself for a while but after getting frustrated I asked for some help. This young man with a fo hawk tried helping me first and when I was explaining what I needed and stated that they carried it online but I was having problems finding it he asked me if I looked in the collar section( duh!!) and then he said "well you might just have to order it online, I don't know where it is". I mean not even an attempt to help me. So I walked away and asked another young kid named Ricky, he asked me the same questions, at that point the manager Alfonso was walking by and at that time I had a picture of the item from their website on my phone and Ricky asked do you know where this is to the manager. The manager said to me (a third time mind you) did you look in the collar section? When I said yes, he said, oh well then we might not carry it. I normally would have walked out the door right then but I decided to try to look one more time BY MYSELF and guess what... I found it.. No thanks to any of the employees(and it was not in the collar section but the back of the store where they keep the supplements). When I went to check out Ricky was now my cashier and said "oh you found it, where was it?" The point is, you work at the store. You should know not me!!!! Very displeased with the way this place is ran and the laziness in the workers and I will never go back!!!! read more

This is the WORST PETCO I have ever been to! I was waiting 20 mins to pick up my dog while tow groomers were doing absoulty NOTHING! I assumed the manager who was helping an employee was the only one who could check me out. I was shocked to see one of them rush over to help/greet a customer who walked in with her dog after I had been ignored. ALL infront of the grooming manager. I finally spoke up and when the customer apologized to me for what she thought was a "jumping the line" situation, the employee said "I was just being rude". I was shocked and insulted. Just when I thought it could not get any worst i called the GM of the store just to give feed back. First the employee said she wasnt there and wouldnt be in all day. Then after I left my name and number I asked when she will be back and after a hold she gets on the phone. I then tell the manager what wasw told to me and expresses with what I took as an attitude, that she in on a conference call and in the middle of something. Then when i tell her it was a situation in the grooming depatment I wanted her to know she tell me she is busy and will transfer me to Grooming. REALLY????? A General Manager {Felicia} who is too busy to hear a customer is the worst thing a company could have. Needless to say as a business owner I made sure that the District Manager was informed of my 1st time experience in that store. I will never go back again. Too many people are looking for work for employees to be rude to those who are patrons to a store that needs us to pay their employees! read more
