It is the closest place to where I live to get dog supplies...they don't carry the brands that I am use to and that my dog enjoys...PetSmart does!!! Petco is the worst place you can buy food for your dog from. Its like the taco bell of dog food. Do NOT take your dog here for training. One of the trainers, Darryl, teaches classes and helps people with any problems they are having with their dogs. At first glance he seems to know what he's talking about but he's just blowing smoke. His dogs aren't potty trained, but he lies and tells everyone that he taught them in 3 days. One of his dogs attacks other dogs, and the other one doesn't listen and gets beaten by him for it. It's ridiculous how many people eat his stuff up. Worst trainer ever. Do not waste your money!! Do your research before choosing a trainer or daycare. read more

I particularly like this pet store because of the helpful employees. I have a couple of cats that are a complete disaster and enjoy chewing through every electrical chord we have. When I asked an employee at Petco if they had a solution, they gave me a couple of ideas, all of which were very helpful. When you adopt a new pet, they give you a coupon book full of discounts for the basics: collars, food, and miscellaneous supplies. There's only been one time that they were out of my type of cat food, but they were able to tell me when they were getting a new shipment in. They have great deals and send you coupons in the mail if you sign up for their PALS card. Also, when you buy 10 bags of pet food, they mail you coupon for one free. It's a great deal if you ask me, especially if you go through a lot of pet food like me. They have a great selection of all things pets, and are reasonably priced. read more

I had brought my dog here to get groomed twice. The first time was wonderful, my dog came home looking great. Second time was terrible. I went to pick up my dog & the groomer said she just had to wash off his feet real quick because he peed in the crate & gave me the ticket so I went to go pay while she was doing that. After I paid, she brought my dog out and he looked great. She told me that his claw may have gotten stuck on the tub and it bled a little bit so just to be careful with, okay fine. I looked at the foot and it looked okay so I didn't think it was a big deal. BUT BOY WAS I WRONG. I got home & right as I took him off my lap, BLOOD EVERYWHERE. So I am sure they put corn starch (or something else) on his wound to stop it from bleeding right before I got him. I examined his claw and it was CUT. There was no way it was just "ripped" from getting caught on something. Literally hanging off by the smallest piece of skin. I was beyond upset. Called Petco, told them what had happened & the manager said he'd give a full refund. Went there, waited for about 10 minutes because the manager had stepped out. Once he got there, an employee told him we were looking for him. He took us to the register & processed the refund. There was no eye contact, no apology, nothing came out of his mouth the entire time. I am NEVER going back here to get my dog groomed again. (Oh yeah, my sister had brought her dog here to get groomed years ago and they either cut his eye or poked him in the eye with scissors. And NEVER told her. Once she got him home, she realized there was something really wrong with his eye. Yeah, should have listened to her when she told me not to bring my dog but I thought I'd give Petco a chance since it was years ago but nope.) read more

This Petco is weird and the staff is awful! I am a new pet owner and I needed a groomer. The first time I called during business hours, there was no answer. The second time, they were rude. The groomer did a great job but never cracked a smile and the other staff seem to be adverse to people, which doesn't seem right in a customer/pet driven business. Then, when attempting to return an item, with a receipt, within their required 30 days, the GM whose name is Felicia Singer was SO RUDE. She berated me in front of other customers, refused to return the item and give me my money back and raised her voice to the point that my dog was shaking. When I pursued this matter through her higher ups, and spoke with other employees there, I learned that she often humiliates customers and her colleagues have been terrorized by her as well. Until she is dismissed for her position, I will not be returning to that location and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone else either. Not worth the distress! I was actually contacted by a reporter investigating that manager for an article about crappy customer service there. Other employees complain too. What's wrong with this picture? When I went to the Studio City location, I was we'll received & they took the item back without traumatizing me or my dog so they gained my business. If I was only rating based on the girls who work up front this would be a 5-star review, however, I'm not. I frequent this Petco as well as the one in Encino. I'm at either one weekly for cat food. I also volunteer many hours in the neonatal clinic at Best Friends Society in Mission Hills. We have saved 1200 kittens this year alone with bottle feeding, caring for kittens who are still with their mothers as well as sick kittens. We like to use old cardboard pet food boxes (the shallow kind) as litter boxes, although, we do purchase disposables which aren't as good. I like to take all of the empty boxes and bring them when I volunteer. Encino Petco is WONDERFUL and so helpful. I can't say the same for this location. Eric is rather rude and unkind. For a place that advocates helping homeless animals as Petco, they sure don't live up to it. He reprimanded me for taking boxes that were next to the trash saying I need permission and was overall just so patronizing. The girl at the register apologized for his nastiness. She was so sweet! As for Eric? Enjoy your shitty attitude. Thanks but no thanks. I don't think I'll be back here. read more

They refused to take care about my cat which has nodes because he might be aggressive. Of course if I bring my pet to professionals, it's because I can't do it myself as he suffers from his nodes. They told me it's about 100$ if they take him but no guarantee to do the job. They also refuse I stay with him for help or that I give him a tablet to be relaxed. I've been going to this Petco almost everyday for the past two weeks. It all started because I wanted an aquatic frog. So Liz, the fish girl, told me I need an aquarium and said that I would be fine with a 2 gallon tank that has a gravel filter. She told me to set it up and wait 24-48 hours before I add the frog so I went home and set it all up and came back a couple days later. Liz was there again and she told me and my husband that we could get 2 frogs and 4 fish, so we did! We got home and put them all in our 2 gallon tank. 2 days later one of the frogs died so I took it back and exchanged it for a new frog. The very next day he died. So I brought him back and met Anthony. Anthony told me that a 2 gallon tank is TOO small for all these animals and I need a much bigger one. Oh boy. My little frog investment just turned into a triple number investment. He suggested the 29 gallon tank with filter and heater. By the way, frogs and fishes need a HEATER, which we were not aware of. My animals were freezing and suffocating in a tiny 2 gallon tank. So the next day I come back with my husband and we buy the 29gallon tank and a stand for the tank (we can't just leave it on the floor!) along with gravel and decorations. Holy crap, what was just a small $20 investment became a $200 investment. And by the way, you need to have a tank with fishes in it for at least 3 weeks before adding frogs because they need bacteria in the tank to survive. All of my frogs died and 2 of my fishes died. No wonder Petco has a 14 day fish guarantee that lets you return dead pets within 2 weeks. I really suggest doing your homework before buying any pet. We thought buying little fishes would be brainless and easy, but after getting so much bad advice and mixed advice and dead animals, you just need to do the work yourself. I went to several aquarium stores, petcos, and petsmart to find out the truth, but the truth is that everyone has their own opinions. But if you do go to this Petco, then talk to Anthony about getting fishes because he seems to know what he's talking about. read more

Took my maltipoo here for a grooming. They told me she was nippy during the grooming when i picked her up. So i apologized and went home. I inspected my dog later and saw that she has a nick on her inner thigh, which looked like it was from the clipper they use. No wonder my dog was nippy! They freakin hurt her! And they prpbably saw that she was hurt too but they never told me! I also saw that they trimmed too much of her toenail to the point it bled. Awful awful grooming service! Will never come back ever! I've honestly never walked into a Petco that's been better then the other but by far this location is the worst. I think they have 3 or even that but I saw 2 employees. We couldn't even get any of their attention. I needed a muzzle that was $14 and it was locked in a glass cage that I had to wait 35 min to get my hands in. I couldn't get anyone's attention to come open the damm glass for me. We could have literally stole a bunch of items and walked out with them in our hands!!! If I could give them 0 stars I would. I almost feel sorry for the people that work here, they obviously hate their job and that's terribly sad since they have the joy of working in the pet industry. I guess that's just not enough, they are immensely careless of everything that walks in and out their doors. I walked in one night with my 10 week old yorkie puppy in my arms wrapped up in a blanket with my husband by my side. It was our second day with him and we are new puppy parents so we needed a little guidance into purchasing a kennel. Seemed as if no one was willing to help, it took us literally 10 minutes to find someone to help us bring down the kennels that are on top of the isles and when we finally did she had no clue what the product is about. We ask her what the difference is between the You & Me Sweet Retreat and the You & Me Relaxing Refuge, her response is, they're just different brands. Umm what? They are clearly the same brand so we just ask her to bring them down so that WE can compare them ourselves. We take it to the register and it was exactly 8:00 when we start getting rung up, no one else is behind us in line as we were the last in line. My husband takes out his card to pay when he realizes that online the small sized kennel was priced at $25 and the lady was telling him his total was $53, he politely points it out to the cashier and she immediately snaps at him saying "Are you gonna buy this or not because we are officially closed, make a decision now." she took both of us by surprise that we just ended up leaving it even though we really needed it at that moment, if she hadn't said that to us my husband would've just just said its ok we'll take it since we are in desperate need of it. We ended up getting the same kennel else where for $25. Never again will I step foot in a Petco store, it's sad because they are located a block away from me but I rather go to Target right in front in case of an emergency and can't make it to a lot of the small pet stores located along Ventura Blvd. Support small businesses y'all!! read more

WORST customer service EVER, basically just NON-EXISTENT. No-one will ever come up to you and ask if you need help - even if you stand in the middle of the hallway (right next to the poor sick parrots) and look around for somebody, anyone, for literally THIRTY minutes! They just don't give a damn! Last time when I finally caught the guy to find out if they had what I needed, he made that face like "omg, what the hell do you want from me?!" and suggested to buy online... and when I asked to check other petco locations, he told me he would call to find out and left - I saw him walking back and forth, talking to different people and finally going to the cash register and opening it after like 25 minutes... WTF? I caught someone else to help and was now waiting till they actually check - the first guy gave me that look, like "is she still here?!!" And after like 10 more minutes I finally get the answer...and it turns out they checked for the wrong item =)) unbelievable! Every time I come here I leave in such frustration that I tell myself again and again - never, ever come back! And then I still do, hoping it finally got better, maybe... just because it is so conveniently on my way to Costco, where I go all the time... but NO. Poor quality, bad selection, dirt, non-existent service, sick animals and birds... depressing and useless. This place makes me sick. read more

I just adopted a kitten and this place was my first stop for food and supplies. They had everything my kitty would need and they carry holistic cat food. They also have a nice little selection of cat toys and cat beds. I was very happy that I found everything I needed in one place. The Petco team here is very kind, and helpful. The parking is easy and the location is super convenient for me. This is my #1 place to get my pet stuff now. read more

Love this store. I go here a few times a month to get an assortment of things; toys, treats, shampoo, bedding etc. All the employees are very nice and helpful. I have never had a problem here. The prices are not to bad but I wish the dog clothes and dog beds were cheaper. They have a great selection for animals that I have seen, but I only have a dog and hamsters. I have not been to the groomer there, but I heard they are good and I always see customers(animals) in there :). I love that they have a nice cleaning station in case your pet has an accident. Most pet stores have them but are not conveniently located.... If you don't have a Petco card you should get one(free). You really do save and I ways get rewards:) and I never receive a bunch of junk mail from them which Is nice. The store usually is not super busy but going during the week before 5pm will get you a quicker check out. read more

My experiences both on the phone and in the store have been horrible. I called to see if they had any puppy playtime/socialization sessions this week and no one knew what I was talking about. I was passed from associate to associate on the phone until I was finally told that Saturday and Sunday there were sessions at 2pm. When I showed up with my puppy today at 2, no one in the store knew anything about the puppy sessions. A handful of us were there with our puppies and were told to wait in the back of the store. I waited for 30 minutes before leaving. Horribly unorganized waste of time. I'm never going back to this location. read more

i just moved to the area and this is the closest pet store nearby. I immediately signed my dog up for training classes and during the first owner orientation session, was told that my classes would be held on the loading dock outside, due to space issues within the store. mmm ok. so i didn't object... first class, the trainer said not to let our dogs sniff around certain areas because of i-thought-i-heard-her-say-rat-poison. whatever it was (bad memory) my initial reaction was WTF!?!? plus the trainer was TOTALLY snippy with the dog owners in the class. very rude and not particularly patient. thought about quitting and signing up elsewhere, but thought of the betterment of my dog and remained. second class, the trainer said not to let our dogs in a certain area because of spilled dog food. but the food was on the edge of our "training area", so i'm trying to train my dog and he's eating spilled dog food that's been there for who knows how long. and again, trainer was snippy. so i called the branch manager and expressed my concerns - 1) impatient and disrespectful trainer and 2) having my dog trained on a back loading dock, at 7:30pm (it gets dark early now) with spilled crap everywhere. she was very understanding and agreed to give a full refund. now, about the store in general... eh, it's a small store. there've been a few occasions where something i needed was out. but honestly, i've had that experience with both petsmarts and petcos. the only reason i'll continue to go there is because it's close by. definitely don't get your dog trained by Cyndy. can't say much about any other trainer. read more

My only interaction with this Petco is the grooming center. I took my dog to a lady there named Patricia and she did such a good job. She was really gentle and kind with my dog; treated her very well AND she even gave me a dog of baggie treats because she liked my pooch so much. I highly recommend her to groom your dog. My dog looks great and smells amazing. I went with the "lion cut" and was worried it would look bad but it looks fantastic. read more

I never post stuff up but here it goes (this should tell you everything if I usually don't post things up) On 7/13 I purchased 4 items for my friends dogs, apparently she stepped way ahead of me so I kept the items with no pets. So what I had to do was return it right ? I live like 30 miles away from van nuys and today since I was in the area I had thought of returning them. I go in with like 7 people in line & only 1 register. When it was my turn I explained PILAR the cashier I wanted to return that but I didn't have no receipt and asked her if I needed my ID or anything and she just ignored my questions. She calls the manager ROGER & she asks me on what I needed to do when I had explained everything to her. Roger then starts asking me questions about where I purchased the items and so on. He offered me a gift card, why do I want a gift card when j don't have pets goddamit ?? My face was priceless for a moment I thought they were detectives. If you see the items they are PETCO items in a PETCO bag. I even had to show ROGER my bank app to show him I did purchase the items at his locations. The he decided to go look up my receipt in the system. It took him 30 minutes to find my receipt. Like really ? Really ? Ughhh how frustrating ! Then he comes back saying I'm working on it & stops by the line and help other people. When he finally found my receipt then he was making a big deal about a little vest that the cashier had rung up for a xs but then I went back and got a small one at the time of purchase. I told him the receipt he found said I purchased 76 dollars and I wanted them back. He finished my return & says "ok it's done should be up in 3 to 4 business days" I'm like "ok are we done or what" he says yes. So i asked him if I needed a receipt or something and he says,"no you didn't have a receipt so you don't need one". I'm glad I got names down because prior to this post I'm calling cooperate. These groomers are awful! I scheduled an appointment over the phone for a dog I had previously taken and my new puppy. When I arrived the groomers were incredibly rude. They did not acknowledge my presence and talked amongst themselves while I stood there hearing everything they said. They kept mentioning that they couldn't take "that" dog and that the scheduler had messed up. When I asked them to speak to me they said the scheduler was fired and they couldn't accept me even though I had an appointment and they paperwork they asked for. They were rude to me and very unprofessional, they spoke down to me and I decided to leave even though they said they could accept only one of my two dogs. The following week I decided to try again (everyone has a bad day right?) This time when I called I was rudely asked why I hadn't called earlier to schedule, it was late morning. They said they could squeeze in my dogs as long as it was late. They show no concern for the wellbeing of my dogs and are rude both in person and over the phone. They are unprofessional, I'm usually on hold for many minutes and the prices are just too high for the way both my dogs and myself are treated. I've since looked up new groomers on Yelp and would recommend other dog lovers do the same for their dogs. Steer clear of this place! read more

I've been going to this Petco ever since I moved to the neighborhood 8 years ago. I have 3 dogs and 2 cats, so you can imagine the food bills. Also, over the years, we've purchased fish & ALL the equipment; tank, pump, etc. We've also bought hamsters there, and a gecko, & all the many items that go along with them. Anyway, I was there Sunday around 7PM to exchange a halter collar I'd bought the day before, because I needed a different type. The store was not very crowded, as they were closing in an hour, but there were already 4 people in front of me when I got in line. After a couple of minutes, I turned around, and saw at least 6 standing people behind me. Since there was only one cashier on duty, and the first transaction was taking especially long, I asked the cashier if she could call for another some backup help. Within about 10 seconds, I heard a recorded message that requested another another cashier was needed at the registers. The recording was repeated a second time. By now, I was third in line, and about 10 people were behind me. A second cashier was nowhere in sight. Without me asking her, the cashier pushed the button again, and again the recording was heard twice. Still no backup cashier. When I finally got to the register, Pilar offered and apology. She was clearly overwhelmed, but very polite. Nevertheless, I was getting pretty pissed off, so I asked Pilar the name of the store manager. She said his name was Mike. So, after I paid, I headed to the back of the store looking for Mike. As I searched, I ran across another female employee, and asked her if she had seen Mike. As she hurried off to the back of the store, she mumbled that he may be outside. So, I went to the back door, and there was Mike, holding a clipboard as a truck was being unloaded. I told Mike there were 10 people in line, and that they needed another cashier. He said someone should have called him, and I said the announcement went off four times! Mike looked like he was so put out to hear what I was saying - THAT THERE WERE 10 PEOPLE IN LINE, WAITING TO TURN OVER THEIR HARD EARNED MONEY, AND THEY HAD TO WAIT IN LINE TO DO IT! And that's not the only time this has happened. By far. In fact, I've never NOT waited in a long line here. NEVER enough cashiers. Additionally, this Petco seems dirty and dingy, and if you can ever find an employee, you can be sure they are too busy to help, or avoid eye contact altogether. The customer service is consistently horrible!!! Also, I have to buy live crickets for my daughter's gecko on a regular basis. This Petco sells crickets two ways. You can ask an employee to get them from "the back," (which I do) or, they sell live crickets in these clear, square pre-packaged containers. They come in extra small, small, medium, or large crickets. My point is that these crickets are always dead! The containers are dated, and I have seen crickets which have been on the shelf for two months! I'm complaining, because I actually feel bad for the crickets, because either Petco is ordering too many, or no one is buying them. Anyway, week after week, I see about 20 containers of these poor, dead crickets that never seem to sell. I know I am buying live crickets to feed to my gecko, but at least I'm giving them a fighting chance! I've mentioned this to several employees, but they all look at me like I'm crazy. In closing, I have had it with this, and all other Petcos. Fortunately, C&C and PetSmart are now in the area. Petco is overpriced, anyway, and I don't need the added stress of shopping in a store where hardly anyone seems to care. PS - The reviewer Julie B. is obviously a fake reviewer. Ive visited this location a few times, every time I ask an employee for help they direct me to another employee who dosent know or is busy. I visited this location today to make a return since my puppy didnt like her food. The cashier named Alex was upset because two employees had just quit, while handing me the return slip to sign he was complaining to his manager how upset he was that he didnt have any help in the front due to two employees quitting.Over all this place has terrible service! I recommend driving s bit more to BURBANK because the service there is worth it. read more
